TCP Established Status Even After Network Cable Unplugged

Aug 11, 2011

I have an application that establishes a socket connection w/ another application on a different machine. When this connection is disrupted (e.g., pull out network cable), I recognize this condition and take some action.

In a Windows XP 32-bit environment, this happens quickly ... in seconds.
In a Windows 7 64-bit environment, this happens slowly ... in about 5 minutes.

If I run netstat in the Windows 7 environment, the TCP connection shows established for about 5 minutes after the network cable has been unplugged. (In WXP, it changes in seconds.) I've searched the forum and have heard a few people refer to 5 minutes as being a "default" timeout value. I've also looked at the TCP spec, etc. to learn a bit more, understand it better, etc. in an attempt to find something I can configure to reduce the 5 minutes to seconds but I've not run into anything yet.

Cable Unplugged Network

Dec 28, 2009

I installed Windows 7 (x86) today, but have found some trouble with getting a Internet Connection.

I'm using a dc-202 router. Windows doesn't detect any connections, and when going to network connections it says: Local area connections ; network cable unplugged (tho the cable IS plugged in, and my driver is up to date). My Ethernet card is a VIA Rhine II compatible fast Ethernet adapter.

I already tried to reinstall windows and to skip the router, and just connect directly to the Modem. Even then, I get an error stating: unidentified network. So when i go trough the router, i can't see any connections, when i go directly trough the modem i do get a network, although i cannot connect to the Internet). I can't go on the Internet either way.

I hope this is enough information, otherwise i have some typing to do (cant post on my own computer, or use LAN)

Network Cable Unplugged Problem

May 8, 2009

i've decided to try out windows 7 64bit. after fresh clean install i had an issue with drivers for my integrated network card, which i installed from CD i received when i've bought MB, which is ASUS P5B Deluxe with following network devices :

Marvell 88E8056 PCIe1x 1 Gbit/s LAN

Marvell 88E8001 PCI1x 1 Gbit/s LAN.

now i have 2 network devices displayed in device manager which appear to be working properly :

marvell yukon 88e8001/8003/8010 pci gigabit ethernet controller

marvell yukon 88e8056 pci-e ethnernet controller

and then 3 "other devices" left with yellow exclamation mark :

ethernet controller

rtl8187_wireless (i've disabled this one since i don't need wireless)

unknow device

i also have tried to install newest drivers from marvell homepage, but nothing has changed. i've also tried to setup speed on both network devices from auto to 100mb full and half duplex, but i'm still getting cable unplugged message.

i didn't play with router so far. my network was working with XP32bit without problems.

i have a feeling, this problem will disappear with 32bit release, but i'd rather try the 64bit one. is there anything i can possibly do to get rid off this problem?

LE: i've also tried to go directly with my internet cable without router, but the result is the same.

Local Area Connection Network Cable Unplugged

Aug 29, 2012

OS: Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on Laptop and PC (custom build).
Router: ASUS RT-N56U
Switch: D Link DES 1008e
Network Adapter PC: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
Network Adapter Laptop: Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller

When either is plugged directly into the router, no ethernet cable is detected. If you run either the PC or laptop through the switch first, it works just fine. I have uninstalled and re-installed network drivers, I've uninstalled and deleted the adapters and software and started from scratch. I've checked all of the setting 3 times over.

DELL Laptop M65 Cable Cable Unplugged

Aug 18, 2009

I have Windows 7 Pro (RTM) installed on a DELL Precision M65 laptop.

My LAN interface reports "Cable unplugged" although the cable is inserted and working.

I have no network connection through this interface.

the onboard NIC is a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit adapter and the driver reports it is working correctly.

If i try to install the latest driver from Broadcom, Windows says I already have the latest driver installed!

Any Suggestions?

Machines Not Visible Under Homegroup - Status Showing Joined Network

Mar 8, 2011

Recently I discovered that the Homegroup feature is no longer working on my home network, which consists of one wired pc and one wireless laptop. Both machines running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 SP1. Both machines show the Homegroup status as "joined" in Network and Sharing Center, but neither machine is visible under "Homegroup" in My Computer. What I've tried (applies to both machines)...

- Disable Windows Firewall (no 3rd party firewalls installed)
- Leave Homegroup then rejoin
- Confirmed all needed services are running
- Confirmed IPv6 enabled
- Network Set to "Home"
- Disabled Wlan, using ethernet

Before this problem I had been using homegroup for over a year without incident. I should mention this problem seems to coincide with my upgrade to Service Pack 1, but I really don't want to jump to any conclusions at this point.

Windows 7 WIFI Adapter Status Loged On While Not In Vicinity Of WFI Network

Sep 28, 2011

First of all every time I am logged on to my WIFI at home, after a couple of hours, I get told that I am loged on to two WIFI networks (A and B), whilst I only get one set of bars in my statusdisplay (bottom right). When I switch off WIFI, network centre keeps telling me I am loged on to WFI B. A is the SSID and B is the typenumber of teh router I have, so there is only one WIFI signal. Secondly, after being logged on to my home WIFI, All activity seizes, I can not load pages, check e-mail, or anything. I can access my router and it tells me everything is ok, but packages seem to come to a halt. My PS3 can be online, so the problem is in my laptop I think. I have tried releasing and renewing my IP and resetting my router, but only rebooting my laptop helps.

Unknown Driver For Network Cable

Nov 2, 2009

I recently purchased a USB 2.0 Network Cable. I have been unable to find the necessary drivers to support the cable. I bought it from a wholesale website, and there's no manufacturer disclosed on the box or the website.

The disk that came with the cable has drivers, but they don't work on windows 7, and the pop-up tells me to contact the manufacturer, which of course I cannot do.

If you could help me find the appropriate drivers, I'd really appreciate it. If not, then I would like to return the product since I am unable to use it.

Cannot Connect To Network - No Cable Plugged In / Limited Access

Jul 19, 2012

My laptop suddenly stopped being able to connect to the network in my house and for that obviously it doesn't have any internet. It doesn't work either by connecting a cable or trying to use the wireless, here are the detaills for each case: When I connect the cable, the laptop detects it, but doesn't detect any network, it doesn't seem to even be trying. I checked on the network adapters, and it clearly says "enabled" when connected and when disconnected it changes to "No network cable plugged in". When I try to connect to my network, it always ends up saying "Limited access", when I tried troubleshooting, it said that there may be an error with the network drivers, I tried the fix there, and then it says that there must be an error with the network adapters.

Here's what I have tried so far:
-Reinstalling the devices and drivers, when I check them in device manager, it says that both the wireless and network driver are working properly.
-I tried resetting the router.
-Tried resetting the bios of the computer to it's factory ones.
- Tried resetting IPv4 and IPV6, along with the IP/TCP using the command prompt, still no go.

When I try to ipconfig /release or ipconfig /renew, I get an error saying the next thing: "An error ocurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1: they System cannot find the file specified. The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation."

Here is my info when using ipconfig /all:
Host name... : Jorge -NB

Wins Proxy Enabled: No

ASUS A8V-Deluxe - No Network Cable Connected Issue

Jan 18, 2010

I have been having some trouble with Windows 7 and an ASUS A8V-Deluxe motherboard (K8T800). Windows 7 will not recognize that a network cable has been plugged in, even though the network cable and switch port tests ok on another PC. I've also tried a number of network cables CAT5e/CAT6.

Previous OS was Windows XP and everything worked fine.

System specs:
Asus A8V-Deluxe (939)
Athlon 3500
2GB DDR400
NVidia 6600GT 256MB
250GB IDE Hard drive
LG DVD-RW (IDE)

Background: Started with a BIOS reset and a clean install and format of the hard drive every time

1. Installed Win7 x64 - Network Cable Unplugged
2. Installed Win7 x86 - Network Cable Unplugged
3. Installed Win7 x64 & added a known-to-be-working Intel Pro 100S NIC - Network Cable Unplugged on both NIC's
4. Installed Win7 x64 & added a known-to-be-working Intel Pro 100S NIC - Network Cable Unplugged on both NIC's
5. Disabled Onboard NIC and re-installed Win7 x64 - Network Cable Unplugged (Pro 100S)
6. Disabled Onboard NIC and re-installed Win7 x86 - Network Cable Unplugged (Pro 100S)

So it would appear that something else is causing the Network Cable Uplugged issue, it looks like something within Windows 7, rather than a physical problem with the NIC.

I have tried disabling IPv6, but that makes no difference.

I have tried a couple of BIOS versions, maybe if anyone out there has had any success with this MB and Windows 7 they could recommend a BIOS version?

DATA Drive: Samsung HD501LJ
NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mpbs Ethernet
Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mpbs USB 2.0 Network Adapter

The CAT 5 Ethernet cable network cable is attached to our main Linksys WRT320N DD-WRT router ---> Motorola SB5101U DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem ---> Coaxial cable from wall outlet. Another computer is also directly connected to the same router via CAT 5 Ethernet cable and two more computers are wirelessly connected to the same router and none of these three PCs are experiencing issues so this should rule out the router as the culprit.if I leave the computer on (even for hours) with no network cable attached to the computer, it does not turn off. But as soon as I plug in the network cable, the PC will shut itself off within 5-15min.Based on the same scenario as described above, here are the troubleshooting attempts I made without success, except for numbers 4 and 6:

1. Switched to different network cable and router port.

2. Disabled Network Adapter connections in "Network adapter settings" for both the onboard ethernet port and wireless adapter.

3. Ran MSCONFIG.EXE and rebooted in diagnostic mode. Only basic Windows services are loaded. No startup programs are loaded.

4. Rebooted in Safe Mode with networking but could not establish any network LAN/WAN connection. Computer did not shut off!

5. Cloned entire hard disk to another hard disk and switched SATA data and power cables on the same computer.

6. Installed fresh Windows on different hard drive on the same computer. Computer did not shut off!

Out of those 6, only numbers 4 and 6 were where the computer remained on and didn't shut off at all after the network cable cable was plugged in.

Network Status Stuck On "Identifying..."?

The connection (including internet) works fine in general, but when I open the "Network and Sharing Center", under "View your active networks" it only says "Identifying..." and the network name never appears. Windows 7 Won't Run With Old XP Drive Unplugged

Oct 22, 2011

My C drive is failing and I need to replace it. I have software to clone the C drive but Win 7 seems to be installed on 2 drives? There are 2 drives in this system. This system started with XP and I at some point upgraded to Vista. Then a year or so ago when Win 7 came out I upgraded again. It seems some how Win 7 has used the 2 drives in the system to install. When I disconnect the old drive that was there when I installed XP, on boot I get a message that it can't find win 7 and I need to insert the Win 7 install disk to repair the system.

First, how did it use 2 drives to install it's self (win 7) and is there any way to correct this so it's only on the C drive and I can clone it and replace it?

Second, the repair option. Will this wipe everything out? If I do the repair will everything be the same except it will boot with just the C drive and I can then clone it and replace it or will it wipe everything out?
