View 3 Replies View RelatedOn 2 different laptops, one running professional, the other running Home Media, the computer tries to connect to my home network twice. The most frequent example is when I try to connect wirelessly, in network connections I will see my network named two time. "Connected to Network, Network1" When this happens I can not connect to the internet. I AM connected to the network and can see other PC's in the network. If I disable the device and re-enable it, this usually solves the issue.

There are several unsecured wireless networks available run by the flat and I can't connect to the internet on any of them, whereas other members of the flats and my flatmates are able to. This suggests there is not a problem as such with the router, turning it off and on again has already been attempted. When I moved in, the man in charge of maintaining/organising etc the flats took my MAC address and allowed my laptop access. Yet I cannot connect to the internet. I went to my uni's library and connected to the internet no problem. I have tried turning off my internet security, looking at the properties of the wireless connection and attempting to edit settings (changing them back again afterwards), and nothing seems to be working.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS 8300 (running Windows 7 Home Premium) that has lost Internet access. It was fine until yesterday. It shows that it's connected to my home wireless network, but cannot acces the Internet. All our other computers (desktops, laptops & iPad - all running different OS) are able to connect.
I checked the network card, using the Windows Device Manager, and it shows that it is "working properly" and that there are no conflicting devices. What should I do next?
I have been having some trouble with Windows 7 and an ASUS A8V-Deluxe motherboard (K8T800). Windows 7 will not recognize that a network cable has been plugged in, even though the network cable and switch port tests ok on another PC. I've also tried a number of network cables CAT5e/CAT6.
Previous OS was Windows XP and everything worked fine.
System specs:
Asus A8V-Deluxe (939)
Athlon 3500
2GB DDR400
NVidia 6600GT 256MB
250GB IDE Hard drive
LG DVD-RW (IDE)
Background: Started with a BIOS reset and a clean install and format of the hard drive every time
1. Installed Win7 x64 - Network Cable Unplugged
2. Installed Win7 x86 - Network Cable Unplugged
3. Installed Win7 x64 & added a known-to-be-working Intel Pro 100S NIC - Network Cable Unplugged on both NIC's
4. Installed Win7 x64 & added a known-to-be-working Intel Pro 100S NIC - Network Cable Unplugged on both NIC's
5. Disabled Onboard NIC and re-installed Win7 x64 - Network Cable Unplugged (Pro 100S)
6. Disabled Onboard NIC and re-installed Win7 x86 - Network Cable Unplugged (Pro 100S)
So it would appear that something else is causing the Network Cable Uplugged issue, it looks like something within Windows 7, rather than a physical problem with the NIC.
I have tried disabling IPv6, but that makes no difference.
I have tried a couple of BIOS versions, maybe if anyone out there has had any success with this MB and Windows 7 they could recommend a BIOS version?

The CAT 5 Ethernet cable network cable is attached to our main Linksys WRT320N DD-WRT router ---> Motorola SB5101U DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem ---> Coaxial cable from wall outlet. Another computer is also directly connected to the same router via CAT 5 Ethernet cable and two more computers are wirelessly connected to the same router and none of these three PCs are experiencing issues so this should rule out the router as the culprit.if I leave the computer on (even for hours) with no network cable attached to the computer, it does not turn off. But as soon as I plug in the network cable, the PC will shut itself off within 5-15min.Based on the same scenario as described above, here are the troubleshooting attempts I made without success, except for numbers 4 and 6:
1. Switched to different network cable and router port.
2. Disabled Network Adapter connections in "Network adapter settings" for both the onboard ethernet port and wireless adapter.
3. Ran MSCONFIG.EXE and rebooted in diagnostic mode. Only basic Windows services are loaded. No startup programs are loaded.
4. Rebooted in Safe Mode with networking but could not establish any network LAN/WAN connection. Computer did not shut off!
5. Cloned entire hard disk to another hard disk and switched SATA data and power cables on the same computer.
6. Installed fresh Windows on different hard drive on the same computer. Computer did not shut off!
Out of those 6, only numbers 4 and 6 were where the computer remained on and didn't shut off at all after the network cable cable was plugged in.
I have this problem with my laptop. If i am using a cable to connect to the internet and then unplug it and switch to wireless connection, the internet connection gets unstable. The thing is it says it is connected to the right wireless connection AND it claims to have internet connection. - And i do - for a few minutes.. If i deactivate/activate the wireless internet i am able to surf around for a few minutes again, but then it does the same thing again - shows up as having internet connection but im unable to connect to it..Strangest thing is that i am sometimes able to connect to the internet ONLY if another computer is using the wireless internet too.. It still shows up as recieving a nice signal with internet access even though i cant connect to the internet.
The same problem also occurs sometimes when im switching from one wireless connection (at home etc) to another (work etc)..I've had this problem for a few months now.. Comming to think of it i might have had this problem ever since i got my laptop.. Rebooting my computer fixes it every time, but it's not a permanent solution.. Im running original Windows 7 Home Premium x64 which came with the laptop.. Also im not using static ip or anything like that - switching to static ip doesn't do the trick.. Running ipconfig /all command from cmd also shows me as connected to the right router.. The problem occurs every time i switch between cable and wireless and not only at my home or work but also at friends..I'm not sure if i need to leave any more details, if i've left anything out just let me know.
I am having trouble connecting to internet with a hard wire cable but the wireless works just fine. Is this problem in my security settings ?

It currently sports an Intel 4965 AGN ard with Windows 7/8 pre-installed drivers and is connecting wirelessly to a Thomson router. It connects smoothly, but its reception of packages sucks: I can't connect to FTP, load pages at all, and downloads are around 8 kB/s. (Max should be 250 kB/s). Whereas other laptops are able to load pages normallyAll cords are correctly connected, and I don't believe the card is the one malfunctioning since I can connect to other routers flawlessly.

When either is plugged directly into the router, no ethernet cable is detected. If you run either the PC or laptop through the switch first, it works just fine. I have uninstalled and re-installed network drivers, I've uninstalled and deleted the adapters and software and started from scratch. I've checked all of the setting 3 times over.
I've had a wifi network set up at my house for several months now, and no problems. If I couldn't connect. I always just unplugged the router for 10 seconds and was able to connect. Suddenly today, I can't connect to the internet, but my wifi network appears to be fine. It says I have excellent signal strength and that I'm connected but I can't connect to the internet. When I go to the program that came with the router and hit "repair".
It says that I am connected to the network, but that my internet connection is broken...??? I tried using another device to see if I could connect with internet, my ipod touch and it also said that I was connected to the wifi network...yet it could not connect with the internet. It never had a popup that said anything, it acted like it was trying to connect but just never did.
I've done manual reconnection (NEVER WORKS) and Troubleshooting (hardly ever works). I've tried disabling and reenabling the wireless and restarting the computer. Nothing can seem to prevent these problems from happening. Sometimes the network won't even show up!
I can't fathom how it's possible to SOMETIMES detect the network and SOMETIMES connect to it. I've thought of purchasing a repeating (quite pricey if you ask me) or perhaps using an antenna extension cable. Not sure either would be successful in alleviating my problem.
Finally, and the most odd thing, is that when the router was in the basement, I actually got a better signal even though it was LOWER than before. Not sure if this was because it was connected directly to the phone box, but the router is back on the first floor and the problem persists daily.
My D-Link rooter is driving me nuts! Basically I have many computers in my home and I seem to have an issue with encryption and compatibility.I have.My Works PC - Dell Dimension 1100 Windows XP Pro My Works Laptop - Compaq Presario Windows XP Pro My Rig - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit My Tablet PC - Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit My Partners Laptop - Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit My iPhone 4 My Rooter - D-Link DSL-2640R With the default settings in the rooter (Mixed WPA, WPA2) My iPhone, Works PC and Works Laptop connects to the wireless network no problem, it appears they are using WPA mode whilst connected. However my Windows 7 machines are all seeing the network as WPA2. When I attempt to connect to the network it fails on all Windows 7 Machines.I can only seem to connect the Windows 7 machines if I change from "Mixed WPA, WPA2" to "WPA2 Only" which then knocks out all the Windows XP machines However if I disable wireless encryption, which I don't particularly want to do. All the machines work correctly with no problems!I do have a function for "Guest Network" which broadcasts a 2nd separate SSID, but you cant use encryption on it. That could run the Windows 7 Machines but the problem is I don't know how secure it is.

Sony tells me to send the labtop to Sony repair so they can look at it. They trouble shooted over the phone but it didn't help. Asked me to reformat the hard drive which I really don't want to do. This is the problem:
The computer works fine and I can connect and browse the internet with my wireless connection. However, as soon as I connect another computer to the wireless network (or if I'm in a hotel using wireless it also happens because other computer are connected to the same network) I get the BSOD.
The problem is that I cannot say exactly when it happens. SOmetimes it happens within 1 minute of being connected and browsing. Yet sometimes it takes 20min or maybe 45min. I don't think I survived longer than 1h though with 2 computers on the same wireless network.
I didn't notice the problem at first because I only used the one computer. So, I think the problem has always been there but I didn't notice it until I connected a 2nd computer.
To get the blue screen I don't even have to actively browse. I could just scroll down on a page and it happens without warning.
I've been searching this forum and other resources for days now with no luck. I'm connected to our apartment's wireless network, but about a week ago I found the infamous yellow triangle and "No Internet Access." I was going along fine for about a month and this came out of nowhere've tried every imaginable ipconfig command that has been suggested, including flushdns, ipreset, all the winsock commands, etc. I've tried resetting everything: modem, router, laptop... I've tried enabling/uninstalling my wireless adapter, changed my TCP/IPv4 settings, used trusted DNS settings, the whole 9 yards. I've renamed my computer, deleted the network profile, deleted my computers profile on the router, booted on safe mode, you get the picture.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been messing with my daughter's computer (Sony Vaio VGN-CS320J with Windows 7 professional) for days now and cannot connect to the wireless network that our other two laptops running Vista work fine on. This all started when my router went wonky and I had to go buy another power adapter for it. For some reason (I realize this is illogical.) I've been unable to get her back to our wireless network since then. Things I've tried:
1. Unplugged, reset both router and modem probably 50 times.
2. Connected her laptop directly to the router and confirmed the router settings that way.
3. Uninstalled wireless adapter (Intel Wi-Fi link 5100 AGN) and let startup re-install (numerous times)
4. Downloaded and installed latest drivers for said adapter
5. Copied my network settings from working laptop to the one that won't connect.
6. Deleted the network and recreated it (numerous times)
7. Tried to ping router unsuccessfully. (general failure)
8. System restore to a few different dates when said laptop WAS connecting.
9. Reset all the router settings via 192.168.1.1 (New name, SSID, key, etc.)Then created new network on non-connecting laptop with new settings.
I can see the wireless network, that's not the issue. However, I can't connect to it. I ran ipconfig/all and the adapter is listed as "media not connected". I'm using WPA2-personal for security if that matters. The only other think I can think of that it may be would be her antivirus software causing an issue. But then again, she had the same software installed and running a week ago and it wasn't an issue.
I have a strange issue with my wifi network at home. I have 2 notebooks, one with Windows Vista and another, recently bought, with Windows 7.
The Win Vista notebook connects wirelessly with no problems. The Win 7 one, only connects when the former is connected :S
If I disconnect the Windows Vista notebook, I cannot even access the wireless router from the other notebook. The moment I reconnect it again, the Win 7 notebook connects again, almost instantly.
I have a linksys WRT54G-TM router. I havent found any firmware updates for this exact model.
my newly built pc only connects to the internet when directly connected to the modem. when connected to the Linksys WRT54G, the internet does not work and there are no status lights on the ethernet port on my computer. however all other computers and devices, wired and wireless, all work with the router. my new computer is the only one that doesnt work with the router.
1. reset the router and the modem
2. updated all drivers
3. checked to make sure the cable is good and the port on the router is good (they're both good, i use this ethernet cord and router port for my xbox and it works fine.)
4. DNS and DHCP are enabled
5. i've worked on this crap for 3 days now so ive done a lot more trouble shooting than this, i just cant remember everything.
