Windows 7 Only Connects When Win Vista Is Connected

Jul 10, 2012

I have a strange issue with my wifi network at home. I have 2 notebooks, one with Windows Vista and another, recently bought, with Windows 7.

The Win Vista notebook connects wirelessly with no problems. The Win 7 one, only connects when the former is connected :S

If I disconnect the Windows Vista notebook, I cannot even access the wireless router from the other notebook. The moment I reconnect it again, the Win 7 notebook connects again, almost instantly.

I have a linksys WRT54G-TM router. I havent found any firmware updates for this exact model.

New Build Only Connects To Internet When Connected To Modem?

Jul 30, 2012

my newly built pc only connects to the internet when directly connected to the modem. when connected to the Linksys WRT54G, the internet does not work and there are no status lights on the ethernet port on my computer. however all other computers and devices, wired and wireless, all work with the router. my new computer is the only one that doesnt work with the router.

1. reset the router and the modem

2. updated all drivers

3. checked to make sure the cable is good and the port on the router is good (they're both good, i use this ethernet cord and router port for my xbox and it works fine.)

4. DNS and DHCP are enabled

5. i've worked on this crap for 3 days now so ive done a lot more trouble shooting than this, i just cant remember everything.

Vista Laptop Connects To Windows 7 Home-group But Not To Internet?

Mar 8, 2011

On my desktop PC I run Win 7 Premium 64bit and I also have a new Dell XPS 16 with Win 7 64 bit Professional laptop connected to a homegroup with the desktop using wireless wi.fi. It works perfectly. I need to add an HP laptop to the homegroup network with a wireless connection. Connection to the homegroup is fine but the HP, running Vista, cannot connect to the internet. The HP laptop has no need to share files or anything on the homegroup except maybe the printer, once in a while. The homegroup has excellent access to the internet, the HP has access to the homegroup but no access to the internet.IP and DNS servers are set at "Automatically connect.." Router is a Billion 7800N with latest firmware. The desktop is in my home office, the Dell in the family room (about 30' one wall) the HP is in an adjacent bedroom (about 20' with two walls). The dell works superbly in that bedroom. Core two quad 2.8 Ghz (Q6600_ 9600GT GPU I cannot sort this one out.

Printing With Windows 7 Netbook On Printer Connected To Vista Desktop?

Jun 15, 2011

I would just like to say, I am not just posting this question anyhow. I have read around and I haven't found any solution to my problem, thus I have resorted in opening a new thread. So here is the prob:I have a Windows 7 Starter Edition netbook which is connected to a WRT54GL Wireless-G Router. This router is connected via hard wire to my Windows Vista Desktop and that is how the desktop has access to the internet. The netbook is accessing the internet the very same Router via Wi-Fi. The Printer (HP DeskJet 940c) is connected and installed on the Windows Vista Desktop and is functioning. It prints when I give it commands from the desktop. I have set the printer sharing options 'on' in the Networks and Sharing Center as well as haven't kept a sharing password (its open and unprotected). This is as far as I have gotten. My next challenge is, how can I print from the Windows 7 Starter Edition netbook on my HP Deskjet 940c via the Router.I would be very grateful if someone can explain to me in a very noob-ish way as I am not a techie. If someone could send me a video link or so.

Windows 7 Crashes When Connects To Internet?

Jun 4, 2011

I've just started to encounter a problem with Win7. My PC is fine until I connect to the net using wireless. I use a dongle and can connect it to the PC without issue and everything works correctly. However when I connect to the internet my pc freezes and thats it I need to forcefully restart. I've tried closing programs in the taskmanager so I'm left with the bare essentials but something is killing it.I've tried booting in safe mode with networking and this WILL work and allows me to browse and work the PC as normal, however booting back in normal mode produces the same issue.I've tried a clean boot and booted with only system requirements and not any startup items but the problem persists

Windows 7 Connects Automatically To Unconfirmed WiFi Networks

Sep 5, 2011

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop, with Windows 7 home x64. As soon as I turn my computer on and the system finds available connections, the system connects itself automatically to the first WiFi network it finds. Usually this would be my home network, which is fine. But occasionally, this would be my neighbor's unprotected network, which is not as fine.

Potentially, this could be a malicious network, monitoring my internet traffic, which is not fine at all. A possible solution might be to check upon system start that the correct network is used. However, if the connection is accidentally broken, for whatever reason, the system again connects itself to the next available network, which is again problematic. How can I stop this automatic WiFi connections?

Connects To TWO NETWORKS

Jan 3, 2010

I believe this is a driver problem but couldn't find a solution to this problem.

First of all I had some problems installing windows 7 because it didn't recognize my harddrive being a drive to put win 7 on. but i fixed that by installing xp and then intalling win 7 over the top. and then again reformatting and putting windows 7 on after it started recognizing my harddrive.

BUT NOW THE PROBLEM ABOUT THE TWO NETWORKS

whenever I boot now win 7 always comes up with the problem that it is connected to two different networks. in the network and shared menu it says its connected to the HOME network and to a PUBLIC network both at the same time. I only have one cat5e cable connected to the wireless linksys router. my computer has no other network connections. not wireless nor modem dial up.

it only has the one. so to fix this everytime i have to go into device manager and disable then reinable the driver for the network connection. and then all the sudden it works until i shut off the computer and then when it reboots the problem comes up again. I believe its a driver problem. but don't know how to fix it.

the driver that is enabled on my intel board dq965gf is intel 82566DM Gigabit Network Connection.

Windows 7 found it for me automatically. also i'm just running my cat5e out of the motherboard integrated network connection. NO PCI cards inserted.

Windows 7 & Vista Dual Boot Installation - Vista Won't Load?

Partitioned the hard drive to install Vista Home Premium 32bit to create a dual boot system solely to run these two programs. Can't get Vista to load. Followed tutorial meticulously. All goes fine until the "Vista will boot for the first time" step. After this first boot, the screen returns to the "completing installation" page. However, the process dies here and the progress bar across the bottom of the screen never moves, even after an hour. Reformatted the partition and started over with same results. Multiple attempts always die after the first boot.

VPN Connects, No Network Access

Jun 9, 2009

I've set up the client to connect to the PPTP VPN at my workplace. It connects, but I can't access any computers on the network through explorer or remote desktop, by IP address or by name. Also, the internet will not connect after connecting to the VPN [we have a proxy, and the browser won't connect to it].

On the VPN status, the IPv4 Connectivity is listed as Internet

the IPv6 is listed as No Network Access.

I can, in a command prompt, ping network computers by name or IP. ipconfig /all gives, from what I can see, identical results to a Vista computer that connects properly.

This occurs from my house [set up as a Home network] and from public networks. The VPN is set up as a Work network. I've tried changing these and it doesn't seem to help. I've also tried disabling Windows firewall.

However my Windows 7 machines are all seeing the network as WPA2. When I attempt to connect to the network it fails on all Windows 7 Machines.I can only seem to connect the Windows 7 machines if I change from "Mixed WPA, WPA2" to "WPA2 Only" which then knocks out all the Windows XP machines However if I disable wireless encryption, which I don't particularly want to do. All the machines work correctly with no problems!I do have a function for "Guest Network" which broadcasts a 2nd separate SSID, but you cant use encryption on it. That could run the Windows 7 Machines but the problem is I don't know how secure it is.

Bluetooth Device Connects But Does Not Pair?

Win7 SP1,Bluetooth device: Foxconn-T77H114-BCM2070 drivers up to date (to the best of my knowledge and hours of searching)I recently purchased a Bose Soundlink bluetooth speaker. I cannot get it to successfully pair with my laptop. When I add the device it installs 3 additional drivers, adds itself to my bluetooth devices but will not work (ie make noise). The speaker does not complete the pairing like it does with my phone (it beeps and an indicator light appears). When I right click the soundlink icon in bluetooth devices and select the control header i get a "the device fails to initialize..." message. (perhaps i am not meant to be able to access the device in this manner i don't know). I have re-installed the drivers for my internal bluetooth device twice. I have tried every combination of steps from the Bose troubleshooting "guide" in their manual and on their website (resetting the device, resetting the bluetooth memory, distance from laptop, other bluetooth devices turned off, etc). I have searched the internets for hours now and am unable to find a similar situation (though sometimes i miss things right under my nose). I have a feeling it is software related, as I have checked device manager, bluetooth settings over and over and it says that my bluetooth radio is functioning fine
