I have a HP netbook that connects fine wirelessly at home but when I try to connect at work I get a message saying "invalid ip configuration"
I have used the internet connection before but this has only just started happening and other people can log on including smart phones
I'm running a 3-station LAN (2 desktops, 1 laptop) all running Win7 and Webroot Internet Security Complete (all software -- system and applications -- is fully up-to-date) through an Apple Airport Express wireless router. My settings are consistent throughout (home network, same workgroup, advanced sharing settings).The two desktops are members of the same Homegroup. The problem is with the laptop. Even though it accesses the web with no problem, it doesn't see the two desktops and can't ping either of them or the router!I have administrative rights on all three PCs while my wife has standard rights on her desktop and the laptop.One strange condition occurs in Windows Explorer where, under the Network heading in the left column, the laptop appears in from both desktop PCs (but won't expand) while neither desktop appears from the laptop.

I have tried disabling my windows firewall and only just installed Avast antivirus but the problem was there before Avast and is still there.I have found others on this forum with the same weird problem but no solution.Can anyone help?
On my desktop PC I run Win 7 Premium 64bit and I also have a new Dell XPS 16 with Win 7 64 bit Professional laptop connected to a homegroup with the desktop using wireless wi.fi. It works perfectly. I need to add an HP laptop to the homegroup network with a wireless connection. Connection to the homegroup is fine but the HP, running Vista, cannot connect to the internet. The HP laptop has no need to share files or anything on the homegroup except maybe the printer, once in a while. The homegroup has excellent access to the internet, the HP has access to the homegroup but no access to the internet.IP and DNS servers are set at "Automatically connect.." Router is a Billion 7800N with latest firmware. The desktop is in my home office, the Dell in the family room (about 30' one wall) the HP is in an adjacent bedroom (about 20' with two walls). The dell works superbly in that bedroom. Core two quad 2.8 Ghz (Q6600_ 9600GT GPU I cannot sort this one out.

It can see the two other PCs on the network and access their shared files, but it isn't visible by the other two. The only difference is that it is wireless. The netbook runs win 7. One of the PCs runs win 7, the other xp. Everything runs fine between the two PCs. The netbook has the network discovery turned on, has files that are shared.

Im giving a new netbook as a gift but it comes with windows 7 starter. Is there a reason for not upgrading to Home Premium due to ram, etc? Ive heard starter is recommended for net-books but its pretty much stripped isn't it?
Also, Is there a way of doing the upgrade through the Windows anytime upgrade but using a MSDN retail home premium key? I ask this because it sounds easier to do that way since it doesn't have a DVD drive.

at my place of work I have my own desktop PC which is running Windows XP, we are all using Windows Server 2008 and have the ability to connect from home using a VPN and RDP which is pretty pants due to how slow and choppy the whole experience is.ow, I have managed to establish the VPN and actually map the main shared drive on our service without the need to windows RDC however I cannot seem to do the same for my own desktop PC.I want to be able to map my desktop or the hard drive on my work PC but just cannot figure it out. I have tried mapping the IP address and then using my username and password however that doesn't work either.

In XP when you open a folder and want to select the file at the top or bottom I usually press the Home or End key.When you do this in Windows7 it does not hi-lite the text, it just ghosts the selection.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a Dell work laptop. It has McAfee Safeboot and other work related security things. I don't have many "privileges" on the machine. It connects to my work wifi network just fine (automatically) but I can't get it to connect to any wifi networks outside of work. If go to network settings and look at the wireless adapter and view available wifi networks, nothing comes up. It looks like the laptop has an alternative program that controls network adapter (Dell network adapter program) but it won't open when I double click it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I bought the windows upgrade CDs to upgrade my vista PC's to 7. (Big mistake) Wiped out the HD and did the entire install. But every time I open up a video on my WMP it starts to play then stops. The PC then opens up a SV Host program that uses up 80% of the processor. So I have no video playing and my PC won't hardly work at all till I cntrl alt del and close the SV host.
What can I do to make this OS work correctly? The PC is an HP m9500z.
I'm looking to purchase a 3Tb hdd to backup my files, are there any known problems with Windows 7 integration?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm running windows 7 prem home....computer was working fine a couple of day ago, suddenly it would get stuck on the welcome screen for awhile, then eventually goes to the home screen. nothing works on home screen, start, no desktop icons, nothing but a blue circle spinning.....can't get to task manager. works great in safe mode and my daughter's side work fine, it's my side and the guest account not working properly....did not install anything new, but i did uninstall avg anti virus....so when you try to log on the home screen gets this error message "C:windowssystem32cmd.exe"...[URL]
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a terrible time trying to get my ASUS K52 laptop to sleep and hibernate (win 7 home premium). I scoured the net looking at all kinds of things like using the commands,powercfg -a,powercfg -devicequery wake_armed,sfc -scannow,I tried to boot into safe mode and never did figure out how to actually do that. And so on and so on.I was really motivated because if I was running on battery, it would just completely drain the battery and crash hard.The display would dim and turn off as expected but it would never sleep and certainly would not hibernate.I finally figured out one problem was that my wife was logged in on my laptop. I did not think that would be a problem. Sometimes she uses my computer when I am away and then do a "Switch user" but NOT a logout.Apparently, this will stop your laptop from sleeping. Once I logged her out, then it I could sleep at the expected time. But it still would not hibernate or turn off hard disk. So I went through all the advanced settings, yet again, in my power config window, everything made sense and I followed all the recommendations for the various settings I saw online. Finally just pressed "restore defaults" and Whaddya know?! Hibernate worked at the expected time. I used the "Balanced" power plan.Now, FINALLY, my laptop works as expected and I really like the "Sleep" mode and it goes to hibernate overnight to save even more power. I don't why it was so flaky before. It seemed like I had a virus that was monkeying with my power settings but it's been working perfectly for over a two weeks now so I think it's licked.

Any workaround for using Remote Desktop at home using Windows Home Premium and connecting to an office computer at another location using the same Windows 7 Home Premium? The option is available, but I guess the problem is that the office computer is running the same version that is not supported.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have TWO computers on a "home" network (Work group, NOT Win 7 Homegroup).Computer A is new and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. Computer B is "old" and runs Windows XP Professional. Computer A has two printers attached; Epson Stylus Photo R200 and a Lexmark X3690. Both of these printers work well with Computer AComputer B has an HP LaserJet printer on the parallel port LPT1. Computer A can print documents to the LaserJet on PC B as well as photos and documents to the Epson and Lexmark printers. Computer B can print to to the laserjet and the Lexmark BUT NOT the Epson.When I try to "add" the Epson to the printers on PC B there is a message that computer A does not have the correct driver for the printer. The same message occurred when I initially "added" the Lexmark to PC B, but I was able using the CD supplied with the Lexmark to located the 32bit driver and load it onto PC A.
I tried to do the same thing with the Epson but failed to find the driver on the CD. I have tried downloading a 32 bit Epson driver from the Epson site, (using compatability mode) but even after doing that I cannot add the Epson printer to Computer B - the same message that PC-A does not have the correct driver.
I'm trying to get the animated boot screen to work on my home theatre PC, after scouring what feels like the whole of the internet, I can't find a solution to get it to work, and I'm stuck with the Vista scroll bar. I am using an Asus M4A785D-M Motherboard, however I have disabled the onboard graphics and am using an external card (Radeon 4350). This is plugged into my home theatre receiver which in turn is plugged in to my Sony LCD TV (1080p).
I have tried the following commands:
bcdedit /set {current} locale en-UK and bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US
In the command prompt. I have also tried a repair installation over the original which has not worked. I've also fiddle with a number of different BIOS settings without any luck. The resolution on the screen seems to be downgraded when the animated boot screen appears (i.e. it was 720p and then goes down to 480p), which seems odd.
The office network all of a sudden stopped access to a few email accounts, although they still had the same @ domain.Other email accounts still work which is strange. I tested the accounts from home and they work?The office computers are running office 2003-2010 so its not a problem with versions.All computers run off the same network which doesnt have a server or any external firewall. They all run off a home style network.

I work from home (office is 70 miles away), and my Lenovo T420 Windows 7 will not stay connected via WiFi to my Verizon MI424WR ver I router. I had this problem with my old router (MI242WR rev E), and I was able to fix it by turning off the Power Management option to "power off to save power" My Lenovo is using Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wifi chip. It reads as "working properly".
It seem obvious that there is an issue between the Lenovo and the new MI424. I have 10 other devices connecting to the MI424 without a problem. I have shut down devices to ensure that their is not an over burdening the AP issue.
Specifically, the Lenovo successfully pairs with the MI424, tries to establish an Internet connection, fails, and drops the connection (or the router does - I assume it is the laptop.) It's worked great for about 4 hours this am, then it quit working. I:
- shutdown the laptop, pulled power and battery
- shut off the network, pulled the plug and let it sit for a while
- restarted everything and the issue will not go away
It works fine @ work with a Cisco Network.
My company uses some McAfee SW for laptop security. Since I was blissfully working for hours and this just started up, I do not think that has anything to do with it.

First of all I had some problems installing windows 7 because it didn't recognize my harddrive being a drive to put win 7 on. but i fixed that by installing xp and then intalling win 7 over the top. and then again reformatting and putting windows 7 on after it started recognizing my harddrive.
BUT NOW THE PROBLEM ABOUT THE TWO NETWORKS
whenever I boot now win 7 always comes up with the problem that it is connected to two different networks. in the network and shared menu it says its connected to the HOME network and to a PUBLIC network both at the same time. I only have one cat5e cable connected to the wireless linksys router. my computer has no other network connections. not wireless nor modem dial up.
it only has the one. so to fix this everytime i have to go into device manager and disable then reinable the driver for the network connection. and then all the sudden it works until i shut off the computer and then when it reboots the problem comes up again. I believe its a driver problem. but don't know how to fix it.
the driver that is enabled on my intel board dq965gf is intel 82566DM Gigabit Network Connection.
Windows 7 found it for me automatically. also i'm just running my cat5e out of the motherboard integrated network connection. NO PCI cards inserted.
I gave my computer to my brother for a day and when I got it back windows 7 stopped connecting to wireless .I unninstalled "steam" for counter strike that he installed but that didn't fix it.I have an XP installed on the same computer and it connects just fine . Also my smartphone , 2 laptops and an XP computer connect just fine so it's NOT a router problem .Most of the times it connects and says "no internet" .Sometimes it says I have internet but when I open chrome or other browser no page opens . But I can open the router page and I don't see my computer in the DHCP list.I believe is either something my brother installed , either a virus he got but I don't know how to troubleshoot

It connects, but I can't access any computers on the network through explorer or remote desktop, by IP address or by name. Also, the internet will not connect after connecting to the VPN [we have a proxy, and the browser won't connect to it].
On the VPN status, the IPv4 Connectivity is listed as Internet
the IPv6 is listed as No Network Access.
I can, in a command prompt, ping network computers by name or IP. ipconfig /all gives, from what I can see, identical results to a Vista computer that connects properly.
This occurs from my house [set up as a Home network] and from public networks. The VPN is set up as a Work network. I've tried changing these and it doesn't seem to help. I've also tried disabling Windows firewall.
Tonight I installed Windows 7 Service Pack 1. After the installation I see there's a cross over my network connection. But it keeps trying to connect. It's like you plug in cable, disconnect cable, every 5 seconds or so. But it never manages to fully connect. It gets to the state "identifying" then cross comes back.

The most frequent example is when I try to connect wirelessly, in network connections I will see my network named two time. "Connected to Network, Network1" When this happens I can not connect to the internet. I AM connected to the network and can see other PC's in the network. If I disable the device and re-enable it, this usually solves the issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a Windows 7 machine today. I went home and plugged the ethernet jack into the computer - it finds the connection, but won't connect to the internet. The wireless works fine. The wired works on my old vista machine. I went over the a friend's place - same deal, and their new Windows 7 machine doesn't work in the wired connection either. We are both Shaw cable subscribers in Western Canada.
I have tried restarting, disabling/re-enabling the drivers, updating the connection drivers. I can't think of anything else - suggestions?
