Accessing Work Computer From Home Using A VPN?

at my place of work I have my own desktop PC which is running Windows XP, we are all using Windows Server 2008 and have the ability to connect from home using a VPN and RDP which is pretty pants due to how slow and choppy the whole experience is.ow, I have managed to establish the VPN and actually map the main shared drive on our service without the need to windows RDC however I cannot seem to do the same for my own desktop PC.I want to be able to map my desktop or the hard drive on my work PC but just cannot figure it out. I have tried mapping the IP address and then using my username and password however that doesn't work either.

I currently have a workgroup set up with a server (running Server 2008) and 4 identical (literally) computers. Each computer has certain shared files. There is no problem seeing or accessing the files on these computers.I am trying to add a fifth computer to the workgroup. I have added the new computer and can see the other 4 computers. However, every time I try to access any of the other 4 computers on the workgroup, I am asked for my network username and password. It doesn't matter what I put for the username and password - nothing works. It continues to say "Logon failure: unknown username or bad password".

I have been running into this problem recently where i cannot access another computers hard drive from windows 7, knowing the username and password. I have tried using "ComputernameUsername" as the user name, along with "Username@computername" to no avail. What is really confusing me, making me wonder if this will work at all, is the fact that windows 7's username prompt specifies a domain. Considering none of my computers are, or have the ability to be, on a domain, this is an odd question to ask. Does anyone have a way around this that doesn't require changing settings on the computer that i need to access?

Since two days ago I cant access internet anymore. Called the provider, they send a tchnician and he told me that its a new problem in a recent (1 week old) version of windows 7.In normal mode I cant acces but in protected mode I can (without all funcionalities).The technician told me to look for a support.

I'm running on a relatively new install of Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. I recently (about 2-3 weeks ago) installed a new HD and decided to have a fresh start so everything was formatted followed by win 7 install. Everything has been running great up until mid day yesterday. Out of what seems like nowhere I experienced 6 or 7 BSOD's yesterday and from what I could tell they occurred when I tried to do any of the following: 1. Access drive D and play a video file (This is the new HD, it would instantly BSOD). 2. Access internet within 1 minute of startup.
Since yesterday I haven't had any BSOD's and have had the computer running, I haven't tried to play any videos off of HD and haven't reset my computer since (hoping that whatever it was has gone away, although I'm sure it hasn't). For the record I have accessed some music files on drive D without any issue, as well as several word and excel documents (not sure if that makes any difference?)I have a feeling it may have something to do with my new HD that I installed, but have no idea what it could be as it was running without issue up until yesterday (for at least 2 if not 3 weeks).
My system specs are as follows:S: Windows 7 64bit UltimateManufacturer BIOSTAR Group Model A740G M2+ Total amount of system memory 6.00 GB RAMSystem type 64-bit operating system umber of processor cores 2 isk partition (C) 272 GB Free (298 GB Total) isk partition (D) 1630 GB Free (1863 GB Total) isplay adapter type NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 other info:-all drivers should be up to date to the best of my knowledge- i've looked around and have seen a lot of recommendations to run memtest? I had a Dell Laptop with Win7 64-bit. But there was a problem and it wouldn't boot anymore. The problem is that there are some very important files in that laptop. So, I got that hard drive out and connected it to my Toshiba (Win7, 32-bit) as an external drive. I was not able to access the 'user' files from the dell. When I tried to open it, I got an error message 'access denied'. So, I went to properties --> Security --> Advanced, and changed the permissions to everyone. Now, when I open the folder 'Documents and Settings', it opens the folder on my Toshiba, and not the actual files that are on that hard drive. I need to get those files out of there.

i have been on various forums for advice but unable to solve - this is the problem -
* it turns on & I CAN get into advanced menus
* it will not repair itself no matter what
* it will not go into any other modes , safe Etc....therefore I cannot restore to factory settings etc....
* ive Tried all tricks such as F8, Alt & F11 etc..... to get into advanced menu settings - all lead to the black screen
* everything i click on enter leads to a black screen - only a white curser appears.
its as if there is no way of accessing the computer disc/ hard drive in anyway from boot up. there is clearly a hardware problem but i cannot access anything internal beyond ordinary & advanced menus i just keep being led to the black screen & no activity. the menus work & that is all. i run Windows 7 on a Dell inspiron 1564.

running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit here. I don't know if this is due to my wifi adapter or the connection or what. I use a wireless connection here, provided by the place we live, the signal is very weak on my desktop. At times when connect to it, it doesn't even load a webpage, but what happens is my mouse skips across the screen, buzzing comes outta my speakers just as the mouse skips, it's like having interference somehow and I just don't get how connecting to the wifi does this, the wifi is really weak, I don't even know why I can't connect, I mean the signal is there, I can connect, but it doesn't load a webpage.

In XP when you open a folder and want to select the file at the top or bottom I usually press the Home or End key.When you do this in Windows7 it does not hi-lite the text, it just ghosts the selection.

I've got a Dell work laptop. It has McAfee Safeboot and other work related security things. I don't have many "privileges" on the machine. It connects to my work wifi network just fine (automatically) but I can't get it to connect to any wifi networks outside of work. If go to network settings and look at the wireless adapter and view available wifi networks, nothing comes up. It looks like the laptop has an alternative program that controls network adapter (Dell network adapter program) but it won't open when I double click it.

So I bought the windows upgrade CDs to upgrade my vista PC's to 7. (Big mistake) Wiped out the HD and did the entire install. But every time I open up a video on my WMP it starts to play then stops. The PC then opens up a SV Host program that uses up 80% of the processor. So I have no video playing and my PC won't hardly work at all till I cntrl alt del and close the SV host.
What can I do to make this OS work correctly? The PC is an HP m9500z.

i'm running windows 7 prem home....computer was working fine a couple of day ago, suddenly it would get stuck on the welcome screen for awhile, then eventually goes to the home screen. nothing works on home screen, start, no desktop icons, nothing but a blue circle spinning.....can't get to task manager. works great in safe mode and my daughter's side work fine, it's my side and the guest account not working properly....did not install anything new, but i did uninstall avg anti virus....so when you try to log on the home screen gets this error message "C:windowssystem32cmd.exe"...[URL]

The reason for this is I am currently building my own and want to avoid unnecessary cost. As I own a laptop that I will no longer be using and a retail copy(windows home premium). So can I take the windows off my old laptop and put it on the computer?

I had a terrible time trying to get my ASUS K52 laptop to sleep and hibernate (win 7 home premium). I scoured the net looking at all kinds of things like using the commands,powercfg -a,powercfg -devicequery wake_armed,sfc -scannow,I tried to boot into safe mode and never did figure out how to actually do that. And so on and so on.I was really motivated because if I was running on battery, it would just completely drain the battery and crash hard.The display would dim and turn off as expected but it would never sleep and certainly would not hibernate.I finally figured out one problem was that my wife was logged in on my laptop. I did not think that would be a problem. Sometimes she uses my computer when I am away and then do a "Switch user" but NOT a logout.Apparently, this will stop your laptop from sleeping. Once I logged her out, then it I could sleep at the expected time. But it still would not hibernate or turn off hard disk. So I went through all the advanced settings, yet again, in my power config window, everything made sense and I followed all the recommendations for the various settings I saw online. Finally just pressed "restore defaults" and Whaddya know?! Hibernate worked at the expected time. I used the "Balanced" power plan.Now, FINALLY, my laptop works as expected and I really like the "Sleep" mode and it goes to hibernate overnight to save even more power. I don't why it was so flaky before. It seemed like I had a virus that was monkeying with my power settings but it's been working perfectly for over a two weeks now so I think it's licked.

I was trying to connect a friends computer to her office computer thru Remote Desktop and now I see that Windows 7 home premium does not work with that option. Any workaround for using Remote Desktop at home using Windows Home Premium and connecting to an office computer at another location using the same Windows 7 Home Premium? The option is available, but I guess the problem is that the office computer is running the same version that is not supported.

I have TWO computers on a "home" network (Work group, NOT Win 7 Homegroup).Computer A is new and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. Computer B is "old" and runs Windows XP Professional. Computer A has two printers attached; Epson Stylus Photo R200 and a Lexmark X3690. Both of these printers work well with Computer AComputer B has an HP LaserJet printer on the parallel port LPT1. Computer A can print documents to the LaserJet on PC B as well as photos and documents to the Epson and Lexmark printers. Computer B can print to to the laserjet and the Lexmark BUT NOT the Epson.When I try to "add" the Epson to the printers on PC B there is a message that computer A does not have the correct driver for the printer. The same message occurred when I initially "added" the Lexmark to PC B, but I was able using the CD supplied with the Lexmark to located the 32bit driver and load it onto PC A.
I tried to do the same thing with the Epson but failed to find the driver on the CD. I have tried downloading a 32 bit Epson driver from the Epson site, (using compatability mode) but even after doing that I cannot add the Epson printer to Computer B - the same message that PC-A does not have the correct driver.

I'm trying to get the animated boot screen to work on my home theatre PC, after scouring what feels like the whole of the internet, I can't find a solution to get it to work, and I'm stuck with the Vista scroll bar. I am using an Asus M4A785D-M Motherboard, however I have disabled the onboard graphics and am using an external card (Radeon 4350). This is plugged into my home theatre receiver which in turn is plugged in to my Sony LCD TV (1080p).
I have tried the following commands:
bcdedit /set {current} locale en-UK and bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US
In the command prompt. I have also tried a repair installation over the original which has not worked. I've also fiddle with a number of different BIOS settings without any luck. The resolution on the screen seems to be downgraded when the animated boot screen appears (i.e. it was 720p and then goes down to 480p), which seems odd.

The office network all of a sudden stopped access to a few email accounts, although they still had the same @ domain.Other email accounts still work which is strange. I tested the accounts from home and they work?The office computers are running office 2003-2010 so its not a problem with versions.All computers run off the same network which doesnt have a server or any external firewall. They all run off a home style network.

I hope someone can help me with this. I work from home (office is 70 miles away), and my Lenovo T420 Windows 7 will not stay connected via WiFi to my Verizon MI424WR ver I router. I had this problem with my old router (MI242WR rev E), and I was able to fix it by turning off the Power Management option to "power off to save power" My Lenovo is using Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wifi chip. It reads as "working properly".
It seem obvious that there is an issue between the Lenovo and the new MI424. I have 10 other devices connecting to the MI424 without a problem. I have shut down devices to ensure that their is not an over burdening the AP issue.
Specifically, the Lenovo successfully pairs with the MI424, tries to establish an Internet connection, fails, and drops the connection (or the router does - I assume it is the laptop.) It's worked great for about 4 hours this am, then it quit working. I:
- shutdown the laptop, pulled power and battery
- shut off the network, pulled the plug and let it sit for a while
- restarted everything and the issue will not go away
It works fine @ work with a Cisco Network.
My company uses some McAfee SW for laptop security. Since I was blissfully working for hours and this just started up, I do not think that has anything to do with it.

I have Windows 7 Home premium and keyboard and mouse are wireless. However, the old keyboard is sticksing badly. Disconnected the wireless and plugged in the new USB Mouse and new USB Keyboard. Booted up system, the mouse was put into a purple round converter so I could plug in the usb to it, put the keyboard in the actual port. Mouse worked but keyboard had no power to it. I know it works because I had th wireless plugged into the same port. I have run out of ports to try. What now???

-Computer 1 sees Computer 2 and 3 just fine. Can browse the folders they have shared, etc.
-Computer 3 sees Computer 1 and 2 just fine. Can browse the folders they have shared, etc.
-Computer 2 sees Computer 1 just fine. Computer seems to be somewhat aware of Computer 3 (it sees it as a media device for viewing pictures/video/whatever) but it does not see it under the Computer list in Network. In other words, it can't navigate to it and browse its folders.
I've messed with everything on Computer 3 I could possibly think of. There was never at any point an option to select who had access to what, specifically. I simply told it to give full permissions to "EVERYONE" which I would assume is everyone on the network.Firewall is off on all three computers.
-Sharing and discovery is on on all three computers.
-File and Printer sharing is on on all three computers.
-Public folder sharing is on on all three computers.
It can't be a "64-bit and 32-bit can't talk" issue since Computer 1 sees and is seen by Computer 3 just fine.It can't be a "wireless and wired can't talk" issue since Computer 1 sees and is seen by Computer 3 just fine.
