Windows 7 Crashes When Connects To Internet?
Jun 4, 2011
I've just started to encounter a problem with Win7. My PC is fine until I connect to the net using wireless. I use a dongle and can connect it to the PC without issue and everything works correctly. However when I connect to the internet my pc freezes and thats it I need to forcefully restart. I've tried closing programs in the taskmanager so I'm left with the bare but something is killing it.I've tried booting in safe mode with networking and this WILL work and allows me to browse and work the PC as normal, however booting back in normal mode produces the same issue.

On my desktop PC I run Win 7 Premium 64bit and I also have a new Dell XPS 16 with Win 7 64 bit Professional laptop connected to a homegroup with the desktop using wireless wi.fi. It works perfectly. I need to add an HP laptop to the homegroup network with a wireless connection. Connection to the homegroup is fine but the HP, running Vista, cannot connect to the internet. The HP laptop has no need to share files or anything on the homegroup except maybe the printer, once in a while. The homegroup has excellent access to the internet, the HP has access to the homegroup but no access to the internet.IP and DNS servers are set at "Automatically connect.." Router is a Billion 7800N with latest firmware. The desktop is in my home office, the Dell in the family room (about 30' one wall) the HP is in an adjacent bedroom (about 20' with two walls). The dell works superbly in that bedroom. Core two quad 2.8 Ghz (Q6600_ 9600GT GPU I cannot sort this one out.

I gave my computer to my brother for a day and when I got it back windows 7 stopped connecting to wireless .I unninstalled "steam" for counter strike that he installed but that didn't fix it.I have an XP installed on the same computer and it connects just fine . Also my smartphone , 2 laptops and an XP computer connect just fine so it's NOT a router problem .Most of the times it connects and says "no internet" .Sometimes it says I have internet but when I open chrome or other browser no page opens . But I can open the router page and I don't see my computer in the DHCP list.I believe is either something my brother installed , either a virus he got but I don't know how to troubleshoot

A coworkers mother recently came to me with her son's (coworkers brother) laptop saying it wont connect to the internet. She said it started happening when he installed drivers for his printer. He uses a Virgin Mobile 3g broadband usb adapter for internet, and for the life of me I can't figure out whats wrong. It connects (and gets to the virgin mobile account website) but any other website doesn't go through. Both wireless card and 3g card do this.

My laptop does not connect to the internet on the wireless networks in my flat. It will connect to the network, but will not have internet access. There are several unsecured wireless networks available run by the flat and I can't connect to the internet on any of them, whereas other members of the flats and my flatmates are able to. This suggests there is not a problem as such with the router, turning it off and on again has already been attempted. When I moved in, the man in charge of maintaining/organising etc the flats took my MAC address and allowed my laptop access. Yet I cannot connect to the internet. I went to my uni's library and connected to the internet no problem. I have tried turning off my internet security, looking at the properties of the wireless connection and attempting to edit settings (changing them back again afterwards), and nothing seems to be working.

I have a brand new ASUS X54 C laptop. It detects the wireless network, and will connect to the network, but it shows "no internet access." When I ran the troubleshooter it said "default gateway not available." I updated Windows and my drivers, and that did not help. I had Comcast check the new router, and they said it was okay. My cell phone connects to the internet perfectly through the same wifi.I'm out of ideas. I can connect to the internet by ethernet, but that's all.

my newly built pc only connects to the internet when directly connected to the modem. when connected to the Linksys WRT54G, the internet does not work and there are no status lights on the ethernet port on my computer. however all other computers and devices, wired and wireless, all work with the router. my new computer is the only one that doesnt work with the router.
1. reset the router and the modem
2. updated all drivers
3. checked to make sure the cable is good and the port on the router is good (they're both good, i use this ethernet cord and router port for my xbox and it works fine.)
4. DNS and DHCP are enabled
5. i've worked on this crap for 3 days now so ive done a lot more trouble shooting than this, i just cant remember everything.

I have a Dell XPS 8300 (running Windows 7 Home Premium) that has lost Internet access. It was fine until yesterday. It shows that it's connected to my home wireless network, but cannot acces the Internet. All our other computers (desktops, laptops & iPad - all running different OS) are able to connect.
I checked the network card, using the Windows Device Manager, and it shows that it is "working properly" and that there are no conflicting devices. What should I do next?

I was installing a software on my other laptop (it had SQL software with it) and I ran into some trouble as I got error problems that the installation of the software had failed and now whatever I do, I can't access the web! Sure enough, my wireless connection connects successfully and it indicates that I am on the "Internet" but every time I try to use either firefox or internet explorer to go to a web site, it says I don't have a connection.

my brother recently installed windows 7 on his pc, and since then we have had internet connection issues, but it is ok when you run laptops wirelessly (hope that makes sense!) which are running vista and xp. the network provider (orange) who say everything is fine. although i am not entirely convinced because we have low status and slow connections as soon as soon as it hits about 5.30pm. how do i check if throttling is happening?also, he recently installed a brand new processor and a brand new graphics card put in. it is a nivida geforce gt 220.i am an avid user of secondlife and this constantly crashes out the connection, which is only reconnected after a restart. if i watch or use anything such as Internet, any video or music streaming off any other site, or online gaming that has a high graphic content, the internet connection drops out too, and i get a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it. if i run the repair and diagnose thing that comes up - it says there is no issue detected. but clearly there is something wrong. my brother also separated the logins so my brother and i have different passwords. the connection drops on both logins. if i stick to text based internet sites, then it stays connected a whole lot longer. i can go for hours without having to restart. however, if i break into videochat on msn or gmail chat, there is a lot of breakups in sound, and lag in type chat - going into cam chat crashes me out again totally.if i unplug the live box, and replug it - i have to restart the whole system. in fact if i restart the system it connects straight away - unfortunately, if i return to the same stream - a few minutes in, it crashes again. it's driving me crazy!anyone any idea what i can do. i have no idea about computers at all...i have googled but don't get the responses as i am not entirely sure what i am looking for as i am not computer minded.computer spec:dell inspiron 530intel core duo cpu e6750 2.66ghzprocessor: 4gb (2.75gb useable)32bit operating systemwindows 7 orange network, livebox

Everytime I try and open internet explorer it immediately crashes. I have read on some forums that it could be caused by an Add On, therefore I have tried running internet explorer from the sytem tools menu with No Add Ons, but it still does the same thing opens and immediately crashes. I have runn CCleaner hoping that perhaps a registry problem was the cause, but this did not resolve the issue either.

I recently re-installed Windows 7 from some rescue disks, and everything, with the exception of Internet Explorer is now running fine! Basically whenever I load a web page in IE it crashes after a short time (5 - 10 seconds), and I then have to exit with CTRL + SHIFT + ESC (Task Manager)! Inside task manager I actually have to terminate the IE processes, as IE won't exit if I attempt to shut down through the Applications tab.
Initially IE8 was installed from the rescue disks, and I have since upgraded to IE9, but both versions are behaving just as badly as each other.
I have even tried to start IE in "No-Add Ons" mode from the "Accessories" menu - however after a short time it still crashes. Now I have no add ons enabled, I have deleted everything (in IE history), scanned for viruses (there are none), and I am wondering if there is some way of repairing IE?
P.S.: I have installed other browsers, but I actually need IE for running some Microsoft Online Services, all other browsers are only supported in "lite" mode!!!

I have a strange issue with my wifi network at home. I have 2 notebooks, one with Windows Vista and another, recently bought, with Windows 7.
The Win Vista notebook connects wirelessly with no problems. The Win 7 one, only connects when the former is connected :S
If I disconnect the Windows Vista notebook, I cannot even access the wireless router from the other notebook. The moment I reconnect it again, the Win 7 notebook connects again, almost instantly.
I have a linksys WRT54G-TM router. I havent found any firmware updates for this exact model.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop, with Windows 7 home x64. As soon as I turn my computer on and the system finds available connections, the system connects itself automatically to the first WiFi network it finds. Usually this would be my home network, which is fine. But occasionally, this would be my neighbor's unprotected network, which is not as fine.
Potentially, this could be a malicious network, monitoring my internet traffic, which is not fine at all. A possible solution might be to check upon system start that the correct network is used. However, if the connection is accidentally broken, for whatever reason, the system again connects itself to the next available network, which is again problematic. How can I stop this automatic WiFi connections?

I believe this is a driver problem but couldn't find a solution to this problem.
First of all I had some problems installing windows 7 because it didn't recognize my harddrive being a drive to put win 7 on. but i fixed that by installing xp and then intalling win 7 over the top. and then again reformatting and putting windows 7 on after it started recognizing my harddrive.
BUT NOW THE PROBLEM ABOUT THE TWO NETWORKS
whenever I boot now win 7 always comes up with the problem that it is connected to two different networks. in the network and shared menu it says its connected to the HOME network and to a PUBLIC network both at the same time. I only have one cat5e cable connected to the wireless linksys router. my computer has no other network connections. not wireless nor modem dial up.
it only has the one. so to fix this everytime i have to go into device manager and disable then reinable the driver for the network connection. and then all the sudden it works until i shut off the computer and then when it reboots the problem comes up again. I believe its a driver problem. but don't know how to fix it.
the driver that is enabled on my intel board dq965gf is intel 82566DM Gigabit Network Connection.
Windows 7 found it for me automatically. also i'm just running my cat5e out of the motherboard integrated network connection. NO PCI cards inserted.
