BSOD When 2 Computers Connected To Wireless Network

Oct 3, 2011

I've got a Sony Vaio labtop I bought 10 months ago in the US. I'm in Australia now but have no international warranty. Sony tells me to send the labtop to Sony repair so they can look at it. They trouble shooted over the phone but it didn't help. Asked me to reformat the hard drive which I really don't want to do. This is the problem:

The computer works fine and I can connect and browse the internet with my wireless connection. However, as soon as I connect another computer to the wireless network (or if I'm in a hotel using wireless it also happens because other computer are connected to the same network) I get the BSOD.

The problem is that I cannot say exactly when it happens. SOmetimes it happens within 1 minute of being connected and browsing. Yet sometimes it takes 20min or maybe 45min. I don't think I survived longer than 1h though with 2 computers on the same wireless network.

I didn't notice the problem at first because I only used the one computer. So, I think the problem has always been there but I didn't notice it until I connected a 2nd computer.

To get the blue screen I don't even have to actively browse. I could just scroll down on a page and it happens without warning.

Wireless Network Won't Stay Connected

May 29, 2012

I've done manual reconnection (NEVER WORKS) and Troubleshooting (hardly ever works). I've tried disabling and reenabling the wireless and restarting the computer. Nothing can seem to prevent these problems from happening. Sometimes the network won't even show up!

I can't fathom how it's possible to SOMETIMES detect the network and SOMETIMES connect to it. I've thought of purchasing a repeating (quite pricey if you ask me) or perhaps using an antenna extension cable. Not sure either would be successful in alleviating my problem.

Finally, and the most odd thing, is that when the router was in the basement, I actually got a better signal even though it was LOWER than before. Not sure if this was because it was connected directly to the phone box, but the router is back on the first floor and the problem persists daily.

Wireless Network Connected But No Internet Access?

Jun 28, 2012

I've been searching this forum and other resources for days now with no luck. I'm connected to our apartment's wireless network, but about a week ago I found the infamous yellow triangle and "No Internet Access." I was going along fine for about a month and this came out of nowhere've tried every imaginable ipconfig command that has been suggested, including flushdns, ipreset, all the winsock commands, etc. I've tried resetting everything: modem, router, laptop... I've tried enabling/uninstalling my wireless adapter, changed my TCP/IPv4 settings, used trusted DNS settings, the whole 9 yards. I've renamed my computer, deleted the network profile, deleted my computers profile on the router, booted on safe mode, you get the picture.

Windows 7 / Wireless Network - Media Not Connected

May 28, 2010

I have been messing with my daughter's computer (Sony Vaio VGN-CS320J with Windows 7 professional) for days now and cannot connect to the wireless network that our other two laptops running Vista work fine on. This all started when my router went wonky and I had to go buy another power adapter for it. For some reason (I realize this is illogical.) I've been unable to get her back to our wireless network since then. Things I've tried:

1. Unplugged, reset both router and modem probably 50 times.
2. Connected her laptop directly to the router and confirmed the router settings that way.
3. Uninstalled wireless adapter (Intel Wi-Fi link 5100 AGN) and let startup re-install (numerous times)
4. Downloaded and installed latest drivers for said adapter
5. Copied my network settings from working laptop to the one that won't connect.
6. Deleted the network and recreated it (numerous times)
7. Tried to ping router unsuccessfully. (general failure)
8. System restore to a few different dates when said laptop WAS connecting.
9. Reset all the router settings via 192.168.1.1 (New name, SSID, key, etc.)Then created new network on non-connecting laptop with new settings.

I can see the wireless network, that's not the issue. However, I can't connect to it. I ran ipconfig/all and the adapter is listed as "media not connected". I'm using WPA2-personal for security if that matters. The only other think I can think of that it may be would be her antivirus software causing an issue. But then again, she had the same software installed and running a week ago and it wasn't an issue.

Wired Computer Doesn't See Wireless Computers On Network?

Jan 28, 2012

I recently replaced my wireless router and Bellsouth DSL modem with a single Netgear DGN2200 DSL modem/wireless router. The problem is my desktop which is wired, cannot see the laptop computers that are on the network via wireless connection. If I start a homegroup with one of the laptops, the other laptop can join but my desktop cannot (no "join now" option). If I start a homegroup with my wired desktop, neither laptop sees it.However, if I connect my desktop to the network using my USB wireless adapter, then I can establish a homegroup with either a laptop or the desktop with no problem.I have checked that IPv6 is enabled and that all the services listed in other posts are enabled. I'm fairly certain the cause is some setting in my router security, but I don't see anything that would prevent my desktop from linking. I can also get on the internet with no problem.

Cannot Ping Windows 7 From Other Connected Computers

Apr 23, 2011

I have setup a test LAN with 4 computers, 3 running different versions of Ubuntu and one running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Until three days ago I did not have a problem pinging between any of the computers. My project is build one of the Ubuntu boxes to be the gateway/router/firewall/VPN server for the LAN. On Thursday I suddenly could not ping the Win 7 box from any of the Ubuntu boxes. The Win 7 box can ping any of the Ubuntu boxes. But what is even worse, I no longer am able to connect via Putty from the Win 7 box to any of the Ubuntu boxes.

I have disconnected the LAN from internet access and turned off the firewall on each of the boxes. I have checked all network settings. I have searched the internet for an answer. All without success. The only clue I have to the cause of the problem is that on Wednesday night Windows 7 performed an automatic update. In my focus on building the gateway/router/firewall/VPN server I failed to do two critical things on the Win 7 box. Turn off automatic updates and create recovery points. How I can correct the ping and Putty problems short of reinstalling Win 7?

BSOD - Limited Access On Wireless Network

Mar 29, 2012

A few days ago I booted up my HP Pavilion dv4-2049wm laptop. Windows update needed to reboot, due to my postponing it for a few days, so I let it reboot and I started getting blue screens. After a few restarts (getting the BSOD every time), I booted into the last known good configuration. It booted up fine, but now I can no longer connect to my network (wired and wireless). It sees my wireless connection, but states "Limited Access."

Things I have tried:
- Uninstalled/Updated network drivers from HP's site, specific to my laptop model.
- Uninstalled all windows updates that were installed before BSOD
- Flushed, registered, renewed dns via command prompt
- Reset Winsock via command prompt
- Tried a "clean" boot
- Ran Windows Check Disk
- Ran Windows Memory Tester (Unsure of exact name)

On the day of the crash I attempted to do a restore, but the earliest restore I could do was at the time of the windows update (same time as BSOD). One thing I did notice is that the "Teredo Tunneling Pseudo_Interface" listed under network adapters is no longer there. Not sure what that might have to do with anything. I ran this tool (Who Crashed/Crashdump) and here is my log:

Code:
System Information (local)
computer name: DECARO
windows version: Windows 7 , 6.1, build: 7600
windows dir: C:Windows
CPU: AuthenticAMD AMD Turion™ II Ultra Dual-Core Mobile M620 AMD586, level: 16
2 logical processors, active mask: 3
RAM: 4022542336 total
VM: 2147352576, free: 1925451776
Crash Dump Analysis .........
[Code] ....

On your computer a total of 26 crash dumps have been found. Only 21 could be analyzed. Only 15 are included in this report. 2 third party drivers have been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

atikmpag.sys (AMD multi-vendor Miniport Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.)
athrx.sys (Atheros Extensible Wireless LAN device driver, Atheros Communications, Inc.)

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query.

Windows 7 Professional And It Is Not Easily Recognizing Other Workgroup Computers Or Stay Connected

May 24, 2012

My new laptop running Windows 7 Professional and it is not easily recognizing other workgroup computers. When, and if, it does, it does not staying connected to other computers and a wireless printer on my workgroup.I have a desktop that is running Windows XP Home. It is sharing its printer and external hard drive to all computers in the workgroup. When I got on the router, I was able to get the Windows 7 machine to see XP box long enough to map a drive and load the printer. After rebooting, Windows 7 did not recognize the drive map or the printer. I pinged the XP box and got Destination Host unreachable. The only thing I can ping is the router. Also, when I went to load the wireless printer (with Windows 7 drivers) it did not see the printer even though the printers connection light is on. I have two Vista Business machines and one Windows 7 Home computers in my workgroup. These are not having any problems. From those other machines, they can ping each other but they cannot ping the new box.It is acting like a setting in Business has it isolated itself and is not allowing traffic. I have searched this problem and it seems to be common but I have not seen a post addressing the Business question. I have tried everything that the help files and forums stated (setting discovery, disabling IPv6, disabling firewall on both, uninstalling virus protection, etc.) with no result. Is there a setting in Business that would prevent it from being visible?

Unable To See Home Network Computers In Windows Explorer Network Screen

May 14, 2012

Unable to see home network computers in Windows Explorer Network screen.

I have a home network with 2 laptops and 1 desktop. The desktop I use as a "file server" in that all work done on the laptops is stored to the desktop. The desktop computer name is HAL. One laptop is fine and sees the network. The other just stopped seeing it; rebooted the laptop; rebooted HAL; did a number of refreshes without any luck. I opened EXCEL and found a worksheet that was listed that I knew was saved on HAL. Was able to open the file and when I tried the SAVE AS I could navigate through all of HAL just as normal. Went to Windows Explorer and still no HAL listed as a COMPUTER on the NETWORK. I have a internet connection so I know I am making it to the router at least. And when I check NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER it shows an active home network. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 Build 7601.

Wireless Connected But Windows Thinks It's Not

Jan 27, 2011

I'm currently connected to the internet through a wireless network to post this thread. If I open the wireless network connections, under the list of network names, it says I'm connected. However, the taskbar icon shows no connection, and Windows recognizes no connection if, for example, I go to the Network and Sharing Center. This image shows what I mean. This problem applies to every wireless network, not just specific ones. This has been going on for almost a year, and hasn't really caused any problems, so I paid it no notice. However, I'm now discovering some problems. Since Windows thinks I'm not connected to a network, I can't do any of the following things:Create or join a homegroup Stream media to an XBox 360 Change network security settings (home/private/public) Pass Ubisoft DRM checks for a network connection?

System:

Gateway NV5909h
Windows 7 home premium x64 (OEM)

Connecting Two Wireless Computers Without A Router

Nov 2, 2009

This is for my parents house. They have high-speed net that can only be registered to one computer, so running it to a router and then computers is not an option. We used to have it setup with net into "computer 1" then out to the wireless router. The new computer has only one ethernet port, so this can no longer be accomplished without buying another card, which I am very inclined to do. They are getting another computer that will also have Windows 7 and would like to get wireless working again, so...

1) I've tried an ad-hoc connection. I understand the concept and had it working for awhile but found it to be "finiky." I would always have to restart the connection everytime I wanted to use it. I couldn't get it to "stick." Did I maybe do something wrong or is there no way to keep the net connection open? I "saved" the network and set it to start automatically, but it would always close the internet sharing.

2) I haven't messed with home group...will this feature accomplish internet sharing easily??...without messing with any ad-hoc crap? I need everything as simple as possible, so if they have any problems I can fix it over the phone or they can figure everything out for themselves.

Like I said, worst comes to worst, I'll get them another ethernet and run it the old way...was just hoping I could simplify things and save some money.

Laptop Cannot Stay Connected To Wireless After A Standby

Jan 9, 2013

1) Since about 2-3 days ago, my laptop wouldn't stay connected to wireless once I put the laptop on standby. I have to connect to it each time I open my laptop. This has never happened before so I feel like something went wrong.

2) My wireless won't connect to any other connections other than my home. I went on a ski trip recently, and while my wireless worked on my iphone and ipad, my laptop wasn't able to connect to it. I feel like this laptop has a lot of weird configuration problems. It also won't connect to my home network unless SSID is disabled. So this brings up the question, will my laptop never be able to connect to any network that has SSID enabled? This is really weird and frustrating because my laptop used to be able to connect to my home router fine while its SSID was enabled. I don't get what happened to it. This is troublesome because that means that I will never be able to use wireless anywhere else other than my home.

my settings regarding wireless? Does anything seem abnormal?
