Windows 7 Clean Install On Sony Vaio Laptop W/o Recovery Discs
Nov 3, 2012
So I made a mistake while taking on a friend's problematic sony vaio laptop. They were wanting to install a newly purchased Kaspersky av, but after uninstalling the old version of Kaspersky there was a problem with an unresponsive usb mouse & mouse pad. I wasn't able to resolve the issue through various repair programs and manually reinstalling the driver, which was giving off the error code of not being properly installed or functioning. With owners consent, I decided to let Vaio Care to bring the computer back to factory condition. (I wish the owner had the owners manual to this thing.)I made sure to backup all of the files that the owner needed saved, but failed to make any sort of backup recovery disk for the computer. Not sure if it's too late to do so, but the computer will not boot to windows any longer. I get a white blinking cursor on a black background immediately after Vaio disappears from the screen upon bootup, but cannot do anything with it. I made a windows 7 home premium iso dvd, and when booting from it I reinstalled windows onto one of the 3 partitions on the hd (the largest of the 3 which was labeled "Primary" type). Of the other two partitions, one was labeled "Primary" and was named "System Reserved" but only 101MB, and the other was labeled "System" and was named "Recovery" and is 7.7GB. When installing, the computer does a restart but then boots up from the disk again starting the entire process over again. So I changed it to boot from the HDD, but still get the same problem of a blank cursor and windows not booting up.When attempting the System Recovery Options on the Windows 7 dvd I'm given 3 different partitions (2 of which are 400+GB, labled windows 7 operating system, and located on (D: ) Local Disk). I'm guessing this might stand for the old windows 7 from the factory, and the one I installed. The other partition is 7.7GB and labeled Start VAIO Recovery Center located on (Unknown) Recovery.System Restore, System Image Recovery, and windows Memory Diagnostic aren't doing any good. Startup Repair only gives me an issue for one of the 3 Partitions, the (Recovery Partition), and states that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically, saying that the "Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline".
When going through command prompt I see that old data & drivers are still on the disc, but was wondering if it was too late to make some sort of a recovery disc for it? My concerns are that when I do a wipe of the drive and a clean install of Windows 7, I'm going to have many issues without having sony's factoryware installed. Am I able to make my own disk to reinstall Sony's factoryware? What's the best way of getting this computer back to fully functioning?I have access to the drivers on Sony's support site: Sony eSupport - VGN-FW510F - Support
I changed the hard drive in my Sony Vaio FW51ZF from a 500gb to a 750gb and when I try to restore from the recovery discs I made when I purchased the machine (I made 3 sets just in case!) it restores the recovery partition and I think drive C but when it says remove disc and restart to restore programs to drive C, I get a recurring error message saying "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer , restart the installation". The only thing that is different is the hard drive size, but I kept the C drive partition to the factory default size.
Hiya, please help if you can. My son was mucking about on his Vaio Laptop windows 7 and did a terrible thing - he copied and pasted a script .vbs (pop out your dvd drive(?) I have no idea what that means, but it don't sound good, and now it is making a funny noise and wont play any discs.
Where can I get the recovery discs for a Sony Vaio PCV-6603, the Sony tech support site does not even recognise the number, also where can I get a replacement ethernet adapter?
Is this even possible. I thought I had made discs when I got my laptop but I cannot find them anywhere. I have tried the f8 thing but only get a windows didn't close properly message. I have tried the start +0 button and it goes to the same message. I have a repair disc and have done a full back up and removed all my files I don't want to lose. Previous dramas with HDDRECOVERY partition seems to have caused further problems I think.
skip the auto recovery rescue in Sony vaio during the boot up. Every boot up i had to give exit in auto recovery rescue and restart the machine to login.
after formatting my sony vaio vpcee2m1e, using a Bootable USB (win7, 64x) it stops at -setup is starting service.. I have tried booting with a CD and It gives random error msg at various stages during installation.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z590 that has 2 x 64 GB SSD hard disks that are arranged in a RAID 0 config. When installing Windows 7, the files are copied and the computer reboots, but when it reaches 85% on the Completing Installation screen, the laptop will power off. I have checked to make sure that the power adapter is plugged into a working power source, checked the battery, and even opened up the laptop to make sure that the cooling fan is working, but it still shuts off at that point. I have also disabled the RAID and tried running the Windows 7 install off of a USB drive, but it still shuts down at the same point.
I'm weeks of spasmodic attempts into replacing my old C-drive with a new SSD and a clean install of Windows 7, 32 bit. Here's the current loop: Following Sandisk's instructions on formatting SSD for use as OS with Win 7:
1) I verify BIOS - SATA is (as before) set to ACHI 2) I place Windows 7 upgrade disc in drive, hoping to use "Option 1 - normal clean install" (from Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version ) 3) I get "Windows Error Recovery" screen, stating "windows did not shut down normally" (white text on black screen), with two options - start normally, or startup repair.
- if I select "start normally," it merely returns (after a minute or two) to the same Error Recovery screen after some POSTs (nothing other than single-beep) - no request for my input, no "press any key," etc. - if I select default ("startup repair") option load: "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" ultimately results after a lot of attempting to repair, etc.
PC will still run Ok from old HD when connected, and shows the SSD in Disk Management with a "System Reserved" 100 MB (F) partition along with a 112GB (E) partition. I keep thinking I need to wipe those and try again, but not sure how or if that's even worth trying. I did have the same SSD up and running Win 7 for a brief time - didn't start at some point afterwards...
We have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 7. Over the past two months or so, we have noticed that it will not shut down - the screen goes black (like it should) but the power switch shows that the computer stays on. This also happens when we tried shutting down in safe mode. Any ideas how to fix this? Could it be related to some f the drivers not loading?
i have loaded windows 7 ultimate in my sony vaio laptop. after rebooting its not booting Operating system... its just showing "--" at top left corner in the boot process.

do I have a laptop sony vaio model vgn-nr250fe, who installs to him the windows 7 and the touchpad does not work and not in the manager of devices it appears, they might say to me that type of driver or controller needed to install?
I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on a Sony Vaio VGN-NS190J. I have gone to the Sony site and downloaded and installed all drivers, etc. Everything works great and there are no errors in Device Manager, but the audio device does not show up. When I go to Sound Properties it shows No Audio Device Installed. I downloaded both versions of the audio drivers from the Sony site, both Realtek drivers, and when I run them the install starts, I click few a few screens to start the install and I get the box saying it's checking the system and installing. The box then just closes and it never installs. I even connected to a Sony tech who took control and tried to fix it but was not successful. They said it must be a hardware problem. The sound was working fine on Vista before I upgraded to Win 7.
