View 1 RepliesI changed the hard drive in my Sony Vaio FW51ZF from a 500gb to a 750gb and when I try to restore from the recovery discs I made when I purchased the machine (I made 3 sets just in case!) it restores the recovery partition and I think drive C but when it says remove disc and restart to restore programs to drive C, I get a recurring error message saying "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer , restart the installation". The only thing that is different is the hard drive size, but I kept the C drive partition to the factory default size.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I made a mistake while taking on a friend's problematic sony vaio laptop. They were wanting to install a newly purchased Kaspersky av, but after uninstalling the old version of Kaspersky there was a problem with an unresponsive usb mouse & mouse pad. I wasn't able to resolve the issue through various repair programs and manually reinstalling the driver, which was giving off the error code of not being properly installed or functioning. With owners consent, I decided to let Vaio Care to bring the computer back to factory condition. (I wish the owner had the owners manual to this thing.)I made sure to backup all of the files that the owner needed saved, but failed to make any sort of backup recovery disk for the computer. Not sure if it's too late to do so, but the computer will not boot to windows any longer. I get a white blinking cursor on a black background immediately after Vaio disappears from the screen upon bootup, but cannot do anything with it. I made a windows 7 home premium iso dvd, and when booting from it I reinstalled windows onto one of the 3 partitions on the hd (the largest of the 3 which was labeled "Primary" type). Of the other two partitions, one was labeled "Primary" and was named "System Reserved" but only 101MB, and the other was labeled "System" and was named "Recovery" and is 7.7GB. When installing, the computer does a restart but then boots up from the disk again starting the entire process over again. So I changed it to boot from the HDD, but still get the same problem of a blank cursor and windows not booting up.When attempting the System Recovery Options on the Windows 7 dvd I'm given 3 different partitions (2 of which are 400+GB, labled windows 7 operating system, and located on (D: ) Local Disk). I'm guessing this might stand for the old windows 7 from the factory, and the one I installed. The other partition is 7.7GB and labeled Start VAIO Recovery Center located on (Unknown) Recovery.System Restore, System Image Recovery, and windows Memory Diagnostic aren't doing any good. Startup Repair only gives me an issue for one of the 3 Partitions, the (Recovery Partition), and states that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically, saying that the "Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline".
When going through command prompt I see that old data & drivers are still on the disc, but was wondering if it was too late to make some sort of a recovery disc for it? My concerns are that when I do a wipe of the drive and a clean install of Windows 7, I'm going to have many issues without having sony's factoryware installed. Am I able to make my own disk to reinstall Sony's factoryware? What's the best way of getting this computer back to fully functioning?I have access to the drivers on Sony's support site: Sony eSupport - VGN-FW510F - Support

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was working on an email Saturday when my Sony Vaio stopped working & flipped over to the black & white Vaio screen. Since then, I've been able to reboot it once, but it flips right back over to the Vaio screen. At one point, I was able to get to the Advanced Boot Options menu by hitting F8. I tried to restore to the last known good configuration. It got to the Windows logo screen, then went back to the Vaio screen, then went to the "Operating System could not be found" screen. The computer has a One Touch Web Access Without Booting Up feature.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI usually consider myself having some idea about computers but this things is out of my league. [code] My computer has been getting BSOD'S for several days after installing java 7 update 8.I somehow managed to get system back on it's track for few times with cd/usb booting but now, when i start it i just get a black screen no beeps at all and back, gpu and cpu fans are working on max.Tried reseting bios with clr cmos button and taking the bios battery out but nothing helps.I thought it could be hardware error and as there was black screen i suspected the gpu which was making problems before the fan came off so I replaced it with accelero l2 pro.I don't think it's the mobo problem because when i remove both ram sticks i get like 8 beeps until it restarts and everything repeats. But on the other hand how could it be hardware problem if comp autorecovered bios.I also thought about flashing the bios but the boot is set to floppy so i am not sure how would that work out.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI have win 7 running on RAID 1 using 2 Seagate 750GB hdds...My motherboard is an ASUS P5 series with an onboard Intel Raid chip.So apparently one of the drives went dead and since it's RAID 1 no problem right? Just replace the disk and it will auto rebuild... Problem is, this thing happened just as i was about to step out of my house for a week long vacation... I thought i'd get a new drive when i got back and shutdown the pc to save on power while i was away...Fast forward a week, so i boot up the computer and the Intel Raid boot sequence shows that i have a degraded drive... No biggie... I thought i'd boot it up first and replace the degraded drive later... What i didn't notice was that Intel Raid controller had designated another one of my existing drives as a spare and marked it for auto rebuild in Windows...So, upon booting into Windows, Intel Rapid Storage starts rebuilding on the wrong drive... So now i have 1.5TB HDD data that has been wrongly auto rebuilt... I've sinced replaced the degraded drive and the array is back to normal but my data drive is mush... I tried using Active Undelete and it's able to scan the files and recover but the files are corrupted...

Ok I am trying to restore this sony vaio laptop to factory settings. i access the vaio care via the assist button. when i click the recovery option to recover to factory settings i will get a message saying that vaio care has stopped working or vaio care can't activate the recovery partition. i can view this partition under disk management but my right click will only let me select a help option. in disk management the partition is labled healthy recovery. i don't want to perform a clean windows install.

I used roxio software to try and edit and record my video but the computer didn't recognize the camera. In trying to use windows media player, I was told that I needed a driver for the camera, but in searching the computer and the internet for one, none was found. After contacting Microsoft, they couldn't find a driver.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a re-occurring problem with my 1year old Sony Vaio. When I switch it on, it often goes to a page where it says 'windows was unable to start'. When I press 'start windows normally' it starts up with vaio logo and sometimes windows logo, but then stops and redirects me to a page that is blue to check for problems, but stays on this for hours, never resolving the issue. I have tried taking battery out, booting in safe mode (which doesn't work) and using last known working settings, but still can't get to log in page.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony Vaio laptop, E-Series VPCEA24FM, running Windows 7, and I have trouble getting it to print wirelessly.I first tried it with a Lexmark Pro900 Inkjet printer, but when I sent a file, it would sit in the queue indefinitely, even though the print monitor indicates that the printer is 'Ready.'I thought it was a printer problem, so I got a new Brother HL-2270DW Laserprinter. The same problem would occur, it wouldn't print. In both cases, reinstalling the printer allows it to print once, but if the device goes into standby, I can never print to it again from the Sony Vaio. I have two other laptops, running Windows Vista and Windows 7 respectively, and both can print to both printers just fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWin7 64 wont start on a Sony Vaio. It will sometimes get to the desktop and seconds later it shuts down. No logout, just a black screen total shutoff. when restarted the black screen popped up again but this time it was with the message "windows failed to start" and the options were either "launch startup repair" or start windows normally. I chose "launch startup repair".
The startup again goes to the immediate shutdown, more quickly each time it is tried. I have gotten into safe mode and performed a memory and disk check which were ok. It seems to go farther into the startup after it has been shutdown for a while.
I have a vaio and it has had windows 7 64 from new, and just recently it has been freezing with no errors. What happens: when i turn it on it starts normally and loads windows, then aftr about 1 minute it locks up as if it is trying to open something. The light on the laptop is solid orange as if it is busy doing something, but if i open task manager it says 5% cpu usage and the ram is using only 1.5 gigs.If i leave the computer on for 1-2 hours it will un freeze and be totally normal again. It did it once at first and i removed the program that i thought was causing it and it didnt happen again for a few days until i updated windows.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Sony Vaio froze on me and I shut it down by the power off button As soon as I rebooted it would go to the windows 7 loading screen and then go to a blue screen! I tried to restore my computer with the Sony restore disk. It would load then go to the blue screen and the mouse is present but it doesn't do anything from there! Sometimes it would bring up the command prompt and the I cursor blinks and nothing happens Then I tried to attemped and restore with Windows 7 disk and samething happens it loads and instead of a blue screen it is black with a mouse and doesn't do anything I tried pressing F12 and it says Check cable connection pme-mof: exiting intel pxe rom.
When I don't put a disk in it goes to a black screen that says If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, start up repair can help diagnose it!
If i update to windows 7 instead of format, will my drivers be untouched or will i have to reinstall them?
