Boot / Crash Dump And Primary Partition - System Recovery Option Incompatible

Jul 22, 2012

I have a brand new Windows 7 64bit build with a clean install from an Upgrade CD and noticed in BIOS that my 1st boot device must be "Windows Boot Manager" or it asks for the CD. I only have 1 storage device (SSD) in the system and when I look under Disk Management in windows, it shows a 100MB "EFI System Partition" in addition to the primary partition (which is labeled "Boot, Crash Dump, and Primary Partition" - so it seems to have the boot files on it).

My components are:
Intel i5 3570K
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H mainboard
16GB Crucial Ballistix
Intel 520 180GB SSD
LG BD optical drive
GTX 560ti

As I only have the one non-optical storage device I did not set any partition parameters at install. I Attempted to do a Startup Repair with the windows disc to maybe try and delete the EFI partition and got the "... System Recovery Options is incompatible with the version you are trying to repair" error. Not sure what that is. If Disk Management shows a healthy partition with "Boot" listed as being contained, why can I not select the SSD as boot device #1? I can boot perfectly fine with the Windows Boot Manager listed as boot device #1 and the SSD as #2, however it's not ideal.

Crash Dump When Trying To Partition?

Dec 21, 2010

i'm trying to create another partition so i can run windows 7 or xp, am following a tutorial on Internet showing how to do this and everything is working great until i click finish on the new simple volume wizard. then the pop-up appears, warning that clicking yes will change the basic volume to some other volume (dynamic i believe) and that i would not be able to start other operating systems from it. i click yes anyway.now disk c is labeled crash dump when it was previously labeled as a primary partition. and the header bar by disk 0 is now green rather than blue (i think it was blue).new volume (f is the new volume i created.i tried system restore but this computer has only been running for an hour and we have not created any restore points yet.

Creating F10 Option Recovery Partition To Restore Back?

I have a computer with the F10 option when I first turn on the computer. The hard drive failed so I have replaced it and installed windows 7. I am wondering if I can create a recovery partition when I turn on the computer and use the F10 option to restore back to when I first installed windows 7?

How To Recover A Primary Boot Partition ?

May 27, 2009

I have Windows XP64 and XP 2005 installed on adjacent partitions on an 80 GB IDE hard drive. I had been accustomed to using BIOS to choose the drive and EasyBCD to choose the OS. A few days ago I was unable to boot into this drive because I kept getting the error "NTLDR missing (press Ctrl-Alt-Del)." I tried using Microsoft's BCSetup2 (I think that's what it's called) but couldn't get a floppy disk to boot.

Being that there wasn't much on this hard drive, other than the Windows OS's, I decided to reinstall the Win64 on the first partition. I find now that EasyBCD does not install on my XP64, so evidently I must have had it installed on the XP MCE partition. I'm wondering now how I can go about accessing the MCE on that other partition, or finding or remaking the boot loader.

Created New Partition And Made It Primary - NTLDR Missing On Boot Up

Aug 31, 2010

I created a new partition, and accidentally made it my primary partition (C: being my primary one and D: being by other one) now whenever I boot up I get NTLDR missing ctrl+alt+del to restart. So I downloaded the windows 7 repair files from one website and tried to fix it, but I failed and now I wanted to know is there any other way I can fix using command prompt or will I just have to reinstall windows 7.

Disc ASUS Recovery Error 1029, Cannot Boot Into That Recovery Partition

Jun 23, 2012

I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

System Crash - No Recovery Options Work

Sep 20, 2011

I am helping a friend with her Windows 7 laptop which crashed this evening. Startup repair has tried several times but still cannot fix the problem. System Restore fails as well despite trying numerous restore points. The log show that a root cause was found:

Boot critical file
C:CI.dll is corrupt

She has important personal data on this system so a fresh OS install is not an option yet.THis will be a good learning experience for me as I am looking into starting my own computer repair business. I'm not quite sure how to proceed with this. What should I do from here? Do I need to remove her HD and use a data recovery app on a separate system to recover her files, then reinstall Windows 7?

Done A "system Recovery" But Saw One Of It Has A "mini System Recovery" Option?

Jul 7, 2012

I decided to do a system recovery for my laptop. I've already done a couple of experiments before and from what I remember the first time I done a system recovery, the partition where my personal files where saved did not get deleted. The only thing that was "system recovered" was the partition where the OS was located. Yesterday, I again decided to do a recovery but this time, the partition where I have my files got deleted and the space it had "returned" to the OS partition. Orignally, I shrunk the OS partition so that I can have space for my partition for my personal files. If it helps, I've done a "system recovery" but saw one of it has a "mini system recovery" option. What is the difference?

Cannot Boot From Recovery Partition

Jun 20, 2012

My sister just got a new laptop with 7, then accidentally installed a friend's version of 7 on top of it, thinking it was Microsoft Office. I'm trying to restore to factory settings so she doesn't lose all the software that came with the computer.

I know the recovery partition is on the computer (I made it appear by assigning it a drive letter). But I cannot boot from it (or whatever I need to do to access it).

I have tried the following:

1) Advanced Boot Options -> Repair -> System Image Recovery: no system image
-> System Restore: no restore point

2) all possible F# keys at startup, including F10 which got me to Edit Boot Options, which seemed hopeful because it named the partition number, 3, but did not allow me to change it (the recovery partition is 2).

3) F2 -> setup (nothing there)

4) burning an iso of Windows 7 recovery disc, which just gave me the same repair tool as in the 1st attempt.

5) setting the recovery partition as "active" (in fact, I think it was already active).

How To Boot From Recovery Partition

Dec 24, 2012

My last windows update went haywire and left me unbootable. I ran a live linux distro off an SD card to retrieve my HDD data, then decided it was time for a reformat/fresh windows 7 install. However, the factory reset process in my Gateway laptop failed a couple of times, and then the third try I would get stuck at a bootloader error and was thoroughly screwed. So I burned a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (correct) cd to an SD card and used that to boot, formatted the HDD and installed a fresh clean Windows 7.Unfortunately the sticker on my laptop is worn out and while it's 99% legible Windows isn't accepting it. I went into trial mode, and realized I was also missing a ton of drivers and whatnot.I know that installing through the recovery partition, while full of bloatware, I get my Windows product key and proper activation, as well as all the drivers and stuff I need.... F8 into startup repair doesn't help, and instead starts a recovery process on C:, not X:.When I try Gateway's alt-F10 keysmosh it stops halfway through "loading files" and I get "An unexpected I/O error has occurred," 0xc00000e9

Crash Dump While Playing Games?

Sep 11, 2012

It can be any game from something like Minecraft to Battlefield 3 which causes problems for me. The first conclusion I could make was that there may be a problem with my Video card as playing high end games like BF3 can be very demanding on the average computer. I have updated drivers and tried to fix it to no end. These BSODs seem to happen at least 1-3 times a day. The crash dumps can happen both when starting up the game or while I am playing it. I don't know whether any of this information is useful or whether it is even related to what can be seen by analysing the files from sf-diagnostic. All the files needed should be attached.

Individual Crash Dump From BSOD?

Jul 25, 2012

I've had three BSOD's in three days now all while playing either Skyrim and Dead Island. I have the three individual crash dumps attached. The video card I am using is new to the system and has had its drivers updated to Nvidia's latest (not those from the manufacturer's homepage). My guess is that I'm either having some kind of conflict with drivers here or that my PSU is inadequate but without being able to decipher the information in the dumps I can't tell. BSOD's are not my specialty at all but I don't want to simply ignore this.

HTPC Locking Up, No Crash Dump?

Apr 6, 2012

I tried searching first but I seem to have trouble finding the proper terms to narrow the search enough... So I just post this.I put together a HTPC for 24/7 usage (windows media center and iMON remote control, spotify, PowerDVD for Blu-Ray movies). Minimal amount of additional software installed. The problem is it locks up often. The whole Windows 7 goes fully unresponsive (all you can do is power off -> on). It rarely stays responsive for 48 hours. No crash dump is generated. The event log shows nothing special, mainly two error items, one related with errors on Microsoft Security Essentials and the other is Circular Kernel Context Logger session failing to start. The main question is: what is there to do, is there a program that could monitor which other program seems to halt the system? I'd hate to go through eliminating each and every software/hardware component... The second question is: just in case, does anything below ring any bells what might cause the problem?

Get A Crash Dump On Computer Lock-up?

Sep 25, 2012

My wife's laptop has developed a bad habit of randomly locking up to the point you have to hold the power button to shut the laptop off. I'm just wondering if it's possible to get Windows to write a crash dump off events like that, or is that at the point where it's just not going to happen even with the correct options selected?

The laptop is a HP G62 Notebook PC running Windows 7. More exact information can be provided if needed.
