Program In Startup Folder Triggers UAC?
Mar 13, 2011
I tried placing one of my favorite programs in the Startup folder but every time it starts it prompts for UAC confirmation. Annoying. Is there a way to get rid of this?(without disabling UAC. at the moment I work around this by completely turning off UAC but I feel nervous about this).

I have a computer that is a drone specifically for an outside LED sign. This computer is designed to never shut off and doesn't have any other program on it besides Operating System and the sign software. I need to create a batch file that I can place in the "start-up" folder that will open the program (LEDStudio10) and open the file that I want to play. I have already tried multiple attempts and I was hoping someone out there in sevenforums world would be able to point me in the right direction.

I'm running Daemon Tools Lite, and have a conceptual problem. If I create a virtual disk, and then mount an .iso image of an OS on it, and then click on setup.exe to install the virtual OS, Windows 7 triggers a UAC warning.I don't understand why anything happening on the virtual disk would be subject to the host Windows 7's settings. It makes me fear that I'm not actually virtual, though the drive path certainly looked virtual.

I have a seemingly simple problem, but the solution evades me. I would like a particular program to run when the computer starts. The program is TeaTimer.exe, a system protector that I've been using for years.
It seems simple to just put a shortcut to the program in the startup folder, like I've done with all my previous PCs. But this time the program will not run on startup. I have it set to run as administrator if that would make any difference.
The program runs just fine when I manually start it, there are no problems in running the program and I've checked for compatibility issues, for which there are none. it's just for some reason, Windows 7 will not run the program even with a shortcut in the startup folder... and won't tell me why.

disable/enable windows startup program. Here are some features I'd like:
- enable/disable startup programs, whether it is in startup folder, or in registry, or started in other ways
- a history of the programs I have enabled/disabled, or a list of the changes I made that deviates from the default
- if I disable a program, and then updating some software causes it to become enabled again, this utility should detect and disable it again
- explain what each startup program does by connecting to some database online to look up the program

It is a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge with a 500 gigabyte hard drive, 4 gigs of RAM, an Intel i5 processor, and an Intel Graphics Family video card that was bought from the company's online store. A few days ago I took the laptop out and started up as usual. Once logged in and at my desktop the computer refused to run any programs or even open the start menu for 15 minutes. After things begin to respond the computer runs fine but this worries me. It still continues to do this daily. Today a message appeared at the bottom right corner of the screen saying " Windows 7 Not Genuine Error 7601" I believe. The reason I cannot be more clear on that is because that went away. Since then, I, in a total panic, did several internet searches on the problems but was only directed to either one, but never both. I would like avoid contacting a technician so I came here.

program not being in focus when starting up.
I have a few computers here that all run this program that auto launches through the startup folder. this program is suppose to launch at full screen. However, on a couple of PCs this program launches as full screen but the start menu is given focus and not the program. while other PCs with the same setup, launch the program at full screen without giving focus to the start menu.
Just wondering if there is some option that's been selected on these machines that are giving focus to the start menu instead of the program.

I have a minor technical question I would love help on. I have the UAC on and log in as a standard user for protection. There are a few programs that I would like to run automatically when windows starts that require a password EVERY time I start windows, or if I select them manually. Is there any reason certain programs due to their permissions need an admin password to run and other don't?
I could not find the difference looking in the security section of properties comparing it with a program that runs as an admin. HELP! I would like to run these programs automatically as windows boots without typing in the admin password for each program.

Recently was infected with a virus, which I removed with Kaspersky, but now all of my program folders are empty and / or missing when I hit Start -All Programs. I believe this is self-inflicted. I'm running Windows 7/64 on a Dell N7010 laptop. It has a OS (C:) drive (58.5GB) and a Local Disk (D:)drive (527GB). I originally found the "C" drive becoming full. Not being overly computer savy, I tried to move program files and any large files I could locate to the "D" drive. Everything seemed to work fine, until this virus. Now I believe the computer is reverting back to the original location of these files on the "C" drive, and I'm not sure on how to link them back to my All Programs menu.

My computer was hit a malware. I was able to clean/quarantine the malware, but my startup folder is empty. From the Windows logo start, I am able to see the folders in "All Programs". But all the folders are empty. These startup folders are also empty when I navigate to their locations in Window Explorer. My programs are still installed and I can start them from their installed locations. How do I rebuild the startup folder? The "AppData" and the "ProgramData" folders are visible. I'd rather not create shortcuts to all my installed programs one at a time

I'm having a bit of a strange issue with a script placed in the startup folder on a windows 7 machine. When windows loads, it runs 2 copies of the script at the same time. Both scrips error out because as they try to access certain files they find they're "in use." By the other script I'm assuming. I'm wondering why the script is getting double executed, and how I can stop it.
Right after the scripts error out, if you manually click the script in the startup folder it runs with no issues. Only on startup does it run twice and not work.

I've noticed that I have two program files. One just states Program Files and the other Program Files (X86). I believe that the one with (x86) pertains to the Win7 64 Bit however, is the other program file necessary? Since I have Win7 Ultimate 64 Bit don't you think that all files and folders should go to it?

I have 2 program folders listed as x86 on my 64 bit machine. This 2nd x86 program folder contains games that were downloaded and installed from Big Fish games (and those are the only programs that ever go into that 2nd x86 folder).
Other info (that may be important?): I recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. This 2nd 86x program folder was also on my Vista install. I upgraded using the method here to create the windows .old folder process... and that 2nd 86x folder installed into my C drive automatically. (I also used the HP upgrade assistant as directed by HP.
It really drives me crazy that I don't know why I have 2 of these folders. Doesn't seem to cause any issues at all, but wanted to get advice/opinion as to why I have 2 of these and if I'll ever run into issues because of it.

I have an app that is supposed to run at startup. It has an option in it to "Start with Windows", but Windows 7's UAC insists on prompting me every time. I tried making a new task in Task manager to run it at startup, and using "Run with hightest Priveleges", but it doesn't work. The app just doesn't start at all. I am using an admin account, and I've disabled the "Start with Windows" setting in the app itself.
