as stated above i have a folder which keeps reappearing every time i start my computer, it's an empty folder and no other program is using it. tried removing it in safe mode and from the registry, but no results.
I have a folder on my desktop which I used as a temporary location for pictures and videos. Once it was empty I deleted it but every time I open my internet browser it pops up again. I am using Mozilla Firefox and have checked the download settings but this folder is not named in any path that I can see. I also checked WMP but it doesn't appear there either. The only other program I used this folder with was Movavi to convert the video files to MP4 but it's not showing up there either.
I have a windows7 home laptop and a Windows XP desktop. There are connected through a wireless modem. For ages the laptop could find the desktop no worries, and then for the last month or so, the desktop disappears and reappears from the network on the laptop. At the moment I can't find the desktop from the laptop.I have gone ahead and created the same workgroup name for both computers but this has not resolved the issue.
Why does this Box Keep Reappearing in IE 8,"A website wants to open web content using this program on your computer". keeps appearing each time a new screen opens? When I click "allow", the messagw appears again almost instantly. When I click "Don't allow", it appears again. Sometimes I have to close on the red "X" several times to get it to stop reappearing. The program is Adobe Flash Player that wants to open. [code]
Why all desktop icons appear in the Desktop folder but not on the desktop itself?I set my desktop to show the Recicle Bin icon only, but if I open the Desktop folder in Explorer they are all there: Computer, Control Panel, Libraries, Network, User's Files, and Recycle Bin.
I am using the auto-hide feature for the taskbar and every time when there's a change to one of my programs (for example somebody sent me an instant message on my messenger or a program has been downloaded on firefox) the taskbar will automatically appear with the icon of the program glowing in orange. Is there a way to prevent that reappearing action?
I have tried tweaking the registry as well as gpedit.msc but still couldn't.
Ok I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and my dvd drive keeps coming and going. The drive is a TSST TS-L633B 12.7 SATA Trayload 8X DVDRW. The pc is a dual core pentium with 3gb ram. When loading a dvd the drive will show up and then shortly disappear. Sometimes it will stay longer but if i pause a dvd it will disappear again and i have to either reboot or open and close the tray to get it to recognize again. I have removed the driver from device manager and i have tried updating the driver with the latest windows 7 drivers from dell with no luck. When i try to flash the drive with the latest the driver it will be there but when opening the flashing program is disappears again. I have even gone the route of getting a replacement drive from dell and it does the same exact thing.I have gone and tried the upperfilters and lowerfilters and that did no change either. I have checked the bios and the drive shows up in the bios.
I'm unable to delete a user administrator account that was created by a program on Hiram's boot disk. The user account was created to delete a password on another administrator account.I can run 'control userpasswords2' and delete the account, I can delete the account the normal way in User Accounts Control Panel, but each time I reboot, the account reappears. When I delete the account I can log off and log back on without seeing the deleted account. It's when I reboot that I have the problem.
I utilize Windows7 Home Premium 32-bit and a 500gb SeaGate FreeAgent external. Similarly, I have on numerous occasion deleted files and done some cleaning-up (primarily 'My Documents') to no real success because they all come back after having attached my external.I do not perform a Back-up /or/ Sync anything. I simply connect my external via USB in order to locate a saved document already on the external from previous. This is all I do and at some point (not sure if it is after the next reboot or when exactly) but, all deleted docs reappear.
Recently after updated my windows 7 my desktop folder appear in my pictures folder. When I expand it, I can see my desktop icon in it. Can it be fix or I have to run the hassle to re format?
Why Windows won't apply my updates. I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I attempt to install my updates but after refreshing the Windows Update program it says they installed successfully but is still offering the the same updates. I've ran Microsoft FixYa from their website to no avail. The updates giving me problems are:
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2676562) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2709715) Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2679255)
I have looked and looked and I can not see a way to add links into the startup folder. If i use Windows explorer to navigate to the Startup folder, I am told I do not have authority to access it (I am the administrator and only account on the system). Nothing in control panel seems to apply so how is it done now ?
I tried placing one of my favorite programs in the Startup folder but every time it starts it prompts for UAC confirmation. Annoying. Is there a way to get rid of this?(without disabling UAC. at the moment I work around this by completely turning off UAC but I feel nervous about this).
My computer was hit a malware. I was able to clean/quarantine the malware, but my startup folder is empty. From the Windows logo start, I am able to see the folders in "All Programs". But all the folders are empty. These startup folders are also empty when I navigate to their locations in Window Explorer. My programs are still installed and I can start them from their installed locations. How do I rebuild the startup folder? The "AppData" and the "ProgramData" folders are visible. I'd rather not create shortcuts to all my installed programs one at a time
How do I get Speedfan to start at boot? I put it in the startup folder and nothing happens. I can start it up manually, but it does give me the bit 'do you want to let the following program make changes to your computer?'
I'm having a bit of a strange issue with a script placed in the startup folder on a windows 7 machine. When windows loads, it runs 2 copies of the script at the same time. Both scrips error out because as they try to access certain files they find they're "in use." By the other script I'm assuming. I'm wondering why the script is getting double executed, and how I can stop it.
Right after the scripts error out, if you manually click the script in the startup folder it runs with no issues. Only on startup does it run twice and not work.
I like listening to an online radio station (through Windows Media Player) every time I use my computer. So, I put a shortcut to the playlist file in my Startup folder. But, even though I selected "Run: Minimized" in its Properties dialog box, it always runs in a normal window. (Then I manually minimize it.)So, how can I force the shortcut to open Windows Media Player in a minimized window
I just did a clean Windows 7 install on my new Agility SSD. After getting most everything where I wanted it, I'm now getting a blank rectangular InstallShield box on my desktop at startup. I can "X" out of it, but it's annoying.
I also noticed that the "services" are totally different on 7 from XP.
Still concerned about my intermittent start up problem.
Seems to be pretty good now.
Has started the last few days, several times, with no problems.
Hope it stays that way.
If you have a reasonably new HP desktop, would like to ask though:
On startups, do you momentarily see that blue screen with the HP logo and the six or so F key options flash on for about 1/2 second or so ? If so, always ?
My understanding is that this screen is Not the infamous BSOD, and "might" be normal during startups ?
Do you think this quick flashing of during the start process is "normal" ?
I have a computer that is a drone specifically for an outside LED sign. This computer is designed to never shut off and doesn't have any other program on it besides Operating System and the sign software. I need to create a batch file that I can place in the "start-up" folder that will open the program (LEDStudio10) and open the file that I want to play. I have already tried multiple attempts and I was hoping someone out there in sevenforums world would be able to point me in the right direction.
I've looked around these forums for answers on how to solve this but have come up empty/there wasn't enough information for my specific problem. After I had a Windows 7 update install (8/12/11), and restarted my computer (ASUS), all that my computer will go to is the Startup repair. Ater running through a meaningless scan telling me the same thing to restart my computer/contact...well...Windows. However every time I restart the comput it will go back to the Startup repair.I have tried to start the computer in Safe Mode but it still reverts back to the Startup Repair.I CANNOT get to my desktop at all. So I don't know how to run the install/repair disk. It won't start on booting either.
I hope somone out there can help. I've been looking through the forums for a while and I haven't found a solution to my problem.First of all I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on an i5 system.I powered on my PC and it gave me a warning about the machine not being shut down properly. I started windows normally and once I reached the desktop Windows freezes, I can still move the cursor but I can't click on anything. Pressing Ctrl alt Del only causes a black screen to appear and I am forced to reset the machine.
I used windows update and updated my nividia 9600 drivers and now for the past couple days I have been unable to reach my desktop. It boots to startup repair and does a short scan then finally says it was unable to help will either shut down, restart or scan again. I've DL'd a vista repair to restore but it doesn't have any restore points and I was able to get onto a DE language linux version of my computer but haven't been able to fix it there, partly cus i cant read most of what im seeing.
My Canon MF3240 laser printer is causing a timeout delay in Windows 7, when completing the loading of the desktop when booting (cold or warm). Long Explanation: When starting the computer, Windows will load normally to the desktop with near complete functionality. But there is a delay of 60 seconds while something tries to initialize or load. During this delay the blue spinning circle ("Working") can be seen over the Network icon in the systray, and over the Currency & Weather gadgets, and in Windows Explorer at the major headings. While the "Working" icon is showing I can open the browser and I have internet access. But I can't open task manager or use Windows Explorer until "Working" is done. The condition was first noticed after I uninstalled my old Canon MP780 printer and replaced it with an Epson Artisan 810. The Canon MF3240 was already installed before this change. I always suspected the Epson printer had corrupted something. This weekend I finally got around to removing all the printers, cleaning up, and reinstalling the printers. I reinstalled the Epson first (using correct W7x64 drivers) and all was good. Windows boots right up onto the desktop and everything is connected - no delays. Then I reinstalled the MF3240. Bang - right off - the delay condition. Now, if I unplug the USB cable for the MF3240 and boot (cold or warm) the delay goes away. What do you think is going on here? More Info: The original installation of the MF3240 was done when I first installed Windows 7. I was new to Windows 7 and there was some thrashing about to get the printer set up, I recall. I finally got it working by manually installing the drivers. These were XP-2000 drivers, best I can tell.
The driver I just installed for the MF3240 is MF3200_MFDrivers_Win_x64_us_EN_7 . I got these drivers from the Canon website for my printer, but I can't remember exactly when, but it was a while ago. I never installed these drivers before. Today, on that website, the only Windows 7 driver available is MF3200_MFDrivers_Win_x32_us_EN_7.exe ". Actually, that is the only driver for all Windows OS's. Also, the downloads above do not contain an installer package, only the .inf's and .cab's. If I knew then what I know now, I would plug in the printer, Windows would not find a driver, I will browse to the folder with the drivers, and the x64 drivers are installed. On the reinstall Windows found drivers and installed them automatically when I plugged the printer in. I had to go to the printer's properties and update the drivers to the x64 version. However, the delay condition happens in either version of the driver that I had installed.
My computer's operating system is Windows 7 Professional which is up-to-date and all the drivers are the latest I can find. The start up sequence is being slowed down by protracted activity on the hard disk, after the display of the Desktop, such that the only programme I have set to start at bootup is delayed by up to three minutes. This is the antivirus programme F-Prot Antivirus for Windows 6.A log obtained from msinfo32 shows the following:
System Information report written at: 01/04/11 23:29:32 System Name: TESTNET [Startup Programs] Program Command User Name Location

As I do not use the Sidebar is it possible that Windows is trying to start it causing the delay? If so, how do I disable the autorun registry entries? I have no recall of how or even if I disabled the sidebar from loading.
On startup a "Zynga" icon appears on my desktop and on my Toolbar and when I press the start button it is there as well. The program was deleted some time ago, so it does not appear when I click on Control panel and "Programs and Features"This means manually deleting or unpin-ing it every day I turn on my computer.
Every time I start up the laptop the desktop is black, there is no icons, and there is no bar at the bottom of the screen, and also the Libraries Window show up at the start up.
This laptop also did not come with any CD so I don't have an option to reformat do I? I think it maybe a virus but I'm not sure and I don't know what to do about it, when I try to open Mozzila Firefox from that Libraries Window i get a msg saying:
Microsoft Secuity Essential Alert (another window) Detected items: Unknown Win 32/Trojan Alert Level: Severe Reccomendation: Remove Status: Suspended
I click apply and it says Unable to remove threat then it want me to scan online. but i havnt tried pressing that button...
