Power Needed For Two 2TB Hard Drive (3.5 Size)?
Jan 15, 2013
I bought a dual sata-usb 3.0 adapter, came with 2A power supply, no problem to start with one of the HD however if I plug two of them most of the time it won't start totally (disk starts but one make strange sound cause not enough power to finish initializing)... Of course both drive are fine. Should I get a more powerful AC Adapter?

My C: drive has been displaying a size of around 60 gb with 40 free even though it's a 300 gb drive. I thought the issue would resolve with a clean install, so I did that. Now I have a fresh install and i need to reinstall everything, but the problem isn't fixed. Below are some screen shots of the drive size:Disk Management, showing my C: Drive's full size ^Any suggestions of how I can reclaim this space?? I've tried a few things already to no avail. If you need any more information about my computer to help, let me know. This is pretty annoying, 'cause I want to use that extra space to install Ubuntu.Oh, I just rememberedWhen I look at the drive in Paragon Partition Manager, it shows the full Drive size, but says that the space that is missing from Windows is in use...

I lost my Event Viewer, and had to do a repair installation to fix it. Unfortunately, during the repair install, Windows decided to rename my second HD as the D: drive... it was K: before that. Now I cannot access any of my docs, pictures, music, or videos through the normal means... they don't show up in libraries or explorer, and apps like Restorator and Sure Thing (CD labeler) cannot find them. I think that means the paths are broken..?
It won't allow me to rename the HD back into K: (it's not listed as available). I can access the data by clicking Computer > D, and I can see the data is there, but its unusable as of now. Any ideas?

I've backed up Windows through the official Windows Backup tool (in the Control Panel) to a hard drive (actually, a second partition). It takes about 8-12 GB (don't remember correctly). Then, right after that, I chose to make a backup also on a DVD, and, surprisingly, one DVD was enough! First of all, it's weird that it could fit into one DVD while if I tried to burn the files form the backup on the hard drive, I would need at least two. And then the second thing: the files on the DVD all take about 3.4 GB. I tried making an image of it though Alcohol 120, and the MDF file takes about 3.4 GB. ImgBurn couldn't make an image, because it's a multiple session DVD. So why is there such a difference in size between system images backed up to the hard drive and a DVD? Can I trust a DVD?
By the way, I tried creating backup with Arconis True Image (I don't remember true name) and Norton Ghost 15 to a hard drive, and their images take about 3 GB. So if the real size of my system image is about 3 GB, then why did Windows backup on HDD take so much place?
It's Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, by the way.

I purchased a Silicon Power Rugged Armor A80 external hard drive to back up my computer & I can't get it to work. When I try to back up MY Documents, it scans the files, then the window says "wrong input" & "access denied".I have been trying to get help from Silicon Power customer service, but they haven't been able to shed any light on my problem. I'm running Windows 7 Professional & have Norton Internet Security. Could there be some kind of incompatibility with my OS or Norton that's preventing access to the files?

I am looking for an alternate touchpad drive to install in my Dell Inspiron 1720 that is compatible for 32 bit Win 7. My warranty went up and Dell will not give me the compatible programs unless I pay.
I'm assuming there is a generic drive out there, somewhere, that does the trick. All I need is to increase the sensitivity, speed, and disable tap-click.

Windows 7, 32 bit, 12 partitions on 3 hdd's, Windows 7 on C:
When migrating to Windows 7 I first tried to update my Vista which I had used happily for 2 years. Installation went fine, but there were too many problems after.
So I bought a new 1 GB hdd and installed Windows 7 there from scratch. It is on a partition with drive letter C. I copied most of my old partitions to the new hdd, went fine.
When trying to delete one of the old hdd's with EASEUS Partition Master Home 4.1.1 manager software, there is one partition on it (which once before was called C, then successfully renamed to Z ) which I can't delete. I has on it the following folders:
$RECYCLE.BIN
Boot
System Volume Information (locked)
-->and files:
BOOTSECT.BAK
bootmgr
They are only 30,5 MB in size. So I resized the partition to 1 GB.
EASEUS characterizes it as Status = System, Pri/Log = Primary. Windows Disc manager characterizes it as System, Active, Primary Partition.
My question is: Can I change the drive letter from Z to B without risking the whole system to be unbootable? (and maybe never be bootable again?) When trying I just get the usual Windows warning.
I would be most grateful for an answer explaning what and why or why not.

Recently upgraded my machine from 3 gigs to 4 gigs of ram so I needed to upgrade my Windows 7 OS to 64bit to use it all. The problem is, now my external WD 1TB external drive is not recognized. I went to the Sony site for drivers for mass storage, however all I could see was a chipset.exe for 32bit vista/ Windows 7. Ran it anyway and still get the message 'Unknown device' 'Driver software was not successfully installed' Even tried using 'DriverDoctor' to install missing drivers, but no joy.

On my home built system, when booting up, if I don't have this generic Dell usb keyboard hooked up, I can not choose from multiple drives I have installed with the Logitech G510 keyboard( which I use to choose, I just have to have this other keyboard connected). Other than that, it behaves normally, fine.Is there something I can do in the way of getting a driver onto a usb thumb drive and then keep that thumb drive permanently attached (like inside the case)?

I have a hard drive I want to backup to a 64gb flash drive and then restore it to another different hard drive than where it came from. I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. It is all free space except for those programs.

So, I have a i7 2600K system with a solid state disk as the boot drive, and an older (c2008) Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB drive as the data drive for programs (that I deem as not worthy of the quick load times). The hard drive has given me some errors over time, and I bought a hard disk to replace it (a Hitachi 1TB). The issue I'm having is that the fact that Windows 7 puts a small (100MB) partition on the F3, and for some reason, even though I'm running Acronis 2012, it doesn't seem to be able to clone the F3 over to the Hitachi. I've also tried Drive XML, and for my 2 hour wait, I only managed to acquire a boot error. Thankfully, I've not done anything rash to destroy the data on the F3, but given the fact that I've seen corrupted files in Steam from that drive, I'm not will to trust it long term with my data. I really need to get the data onto that Hitachi, though... Anyone have any advice for upgrading the HDD in a SSD/HDD system? I don't really feel like it should be so hard, especially if I've bought Acronis True Image, but maybe they haven't designed their product to handle this scenario quite yet?

I have a HP Touchsmart IQ500. Turning my computer PC on today, all I got was a blue HP invent screen with setup, boot menu, system recovery, and system diagnosis, and I could not get past it. I entered the BIOS and figured out that the hard drive was listed as "not installed." Pretty sure that is the main problem.I tried a system restore (with the Windows 7 install disc), but I guess the computer couldn't read the hard drive enough to enter safe mode (I tried restarting and F8ing several times). I put in an external hard drive, and the BIOS read it; however, windows does not allow you to partition an OS on a hard drive.

Me and my brother built me a new computer from scratch (he did the building - i did the watching). I purchased an internal hard drive from Overclockers UK. It's a Samsung 1TB drive. I also have a 64 Solid-state drive in there as my primary hard drive that Windows was installed on and a couple of programs are installed on. My storage disk (the 1TB disk) is for all my music/films etc. Whenever I drag and drop a file into the Samsung hard-drive - it copies it rather than moves it instantly. When I had a laptop, I had 3 external hard drives and this is the way it copied files onto them.how I can get the internal drive to stop acting like an external drive?

I had Windows 7 installed under Western Digital 400 Gigabyte Driveat first I got the BCD error message so I tried a repair with the rescued disk. When I use the repair tool the drive is recognized as Windows 7 followed by the letters zero. If I boot to another drive both drives are listed but I cannot open the damaged drive and under properties it shows 0 GB. I tried using the command prompt and the bootrec commands and they appear to complete but still the drive will not boot and is listed as having 0 GB. I can not understand how I could have lost all the files unless the repair utility in trying to fix the disc wiped it clean.
what to do next short of reinstalling window seven.

I recently got an Acer 1810TZ with win 7 installed. My desktop runs win 2000 and the OS is currently less than 2.5Gb and I consider that bloated as originally it was more like 1.4Gb. I like to image and can easily put that on a dvd even without compressing the file.
On my new Acer the OS is taking up between 12 - 14Gb depending if I have a restore configured. I have partitioned the HD into several partitions. I only keep the OS and absolutely min stuff on my C drive and I have one partition dedicated to the page file only, 3Gb, and have all my programs etc installed on another partition. The recycle bin has also been reduced to 256mb on the C drive
Is there a way to significantly reduce the OS (C drive) to say less than 4Gb ?

My desktop does not detect and external hard drive that do not come with their own power supply. I have many externals that also plug into the wall and they are working fine; but whenever it is an external without a plug, i.e. the portable ones they are never found.
They do not show up in Computer Management, so it is not because I did not assign a letter to the drive.
I have tried various things, but I don't know what I should be testing for or looking for. These externals all work on other laptops and other desktops perfectly fine so it is not the externals. When they are plugged into my desktop, they light up normally like they should, but the desktop never detects them. I have tried these externals with the different USB cable I have on hand, but nothing seems to work. It doesn't matter which USB port I plug the device in, it still gives me no response.
I am running a i7 860 on a ASUS P7P55D Pro.
