Hard Drive Size Ridiculously Far Off, Disk Management Shows Full Drive Size?

Dec 16, 2009

My C: drive has been displaying a size of around 60 gb with 40 free even though it's a 300 gb drive. I thought the issue would resolve with a clean install, so I did that. Now I have a fresh install and i need to reinstall everything, but the problem isn't fixed. Below are some screen shots of the drive size:Disk Management, showing my C: Drive's full size ^Any suggestions of how I can reclaim this space?? I've tried a few things already to no avail. If you need any more information about my computer to help, let me know. This is pretty annoying, 'cause I want to use that extra space to install Ubuntu.Oh, I just rememberedWhen I look at the drive in Paragon Partition Manager, it shows the full Drive size, but says that the space that is missing from Windows is in use...

Second HDD Drastically Increases S3 Wake Time?

Aug 10, 2010

I've recently built the system described in my specs and all worked well untill I installed the second HDD. I want the second disk as a file backup disk as I don't need the performance of RAID 0 but want easy, constant access to a backup disk without having to plug in an external. The second disk is recognised by the BIOS and Windows (it can be accessed and I formatted and mapped it and read and write is fine). The problem is that I've noticed that now instead of Windows 7's awesome 2-3 second wake from S3 sleep that I had with one drive, it now takes about 15-20s. The second HDD is definitely the culprit as I've pulled the power on it and Windows will wake in 3 seconds again. Windows seems to wait for the second disk to spin up before it wakes 'cause I can hear it click and spin at wake. I asked friends with multiple disks and they said that their second disk only spins up when they first access them in explorer. I thought this would be a simple BIOS setting to set mine to do the same but I cannot find anything appropriate. The only thing in Windows' Power Management settings that I can find relating to HDDs is the inactive time to spin down; nothing about spin up at boot/wake.

Google has only offered me something called PUIS or PM2 power setting for SATA drives that was made for older PSUs that couldn't handle the power requirements of spinning up two HDDs simultaneously. This sounded like it might work but the setting is apparently made with SATA jumpers (I didn't even know that SATA drives had jumpers) and on inspection of my drives, mine don't.Does anybody know of a Windows setting for this or is it a BIOS thing? I've asked Gigabyte but they've not replied in a few days and I don't think they're going to any time soon

Physical Memory Usage Increases Over Time

Jun 15, 2012

I'm having this for quite some time now, physical memory usage goes up (especially when using firefox/bitcomet - both of which are the highest consumers of memory on my taskbar-around 200-500MB of RAM). shutting them down will only free a small amount of the memory and the rest still counts as taken. at first i thought it was a bitcomet only thing: Bitcomet hogging memory - Comet Forums it looks like a memory leak since the process won't free the memory i also read on google that using a processor with "NUMA" based memory design doesn't go well with windows 7 (which is the case here), therefore i tried to download an attached hotfix which apparently did not match my machine (Windows6.1-KB2155311-x64) here are my specs:

cpu: intel i7 860
gpu: geforce 560 ti
8GB 1333MHZ of RAM
tons of free hd space

CPU Temperature At Around 70C - Slowly Increases / Hits 100C And Shuts Down

Dec 9, 2010

My old computer's temperature sensor is either broken or I am doing something wrong. The general specs of it are:

Windows 7 Ultimate Edition
Intel 946G Motherboard
Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz
3 GB DDR2 533 Ram
ATI Radeon x1650 pro

When I go into bios and read the cpu temperature from there, it starts at around 70C and slowly rises until it eventually hits 100C and shuts down. This takes about 5-10 min before it hits 100C. When I enter Windows, it starts at around 60C and it actually goes up to 80C when I am playing games. This is way hotter than normal. It does not rise like in bios and goes back to 60C when idle. Prior to this, the temperature actually hit 100C and it shut down my computer. I bought a new heatsink thinking it would solve the problem, but clearly it did not. The temperature is still too hot.

Since a brand new heatsink did not work, I thought it was cpu problem for sure. I borrowed one of my friend's Celeron D and installed it. I entered bios and what do you know, it stays at 42C and does not even budge. So at this point, I'm 100% sure it's a cpu problem. I decided to buy an intel pentium D 945 3.4Ghz. I installed it and was extremely happy thinking my cpu's temperature would be decent. I entered bios and what do you know, it does exactly the same thing my 820 2.8Ghz did. It starts around 70C and the damn thing keeps on rising. So I decided to go into windows to see how the temperatures were in there. It idles at around 47-49C. When I ran prime95 for a test, the cpu went all the way up to 93C before I decided to shut it off and not do any further damage.

Drive Recognized But Size Is 0?

Jul 30, 2010

I had Windows 7 installed under Western Digital 400 Gigabyte Driveat first I got the BCD error message so I tried a repair with the rescued disk. When I use the repair tool the drive is recognized as Windows 7 followed by the letters zero. If I boot to another drive both drives are listed but I cannot open the damaged drive and under properties it shows 0 GB. I tried using the command prompt and the bootrec commands and they appear to complete but still the drive will not boot and is listed as having 0 GB. I can not understand how I could have lost all the files unless the repair utility in trying to fix the disc wiped it clean.

what to do next short of reinstalling window seven.

Can I Reduce The Size Of Win 7 On C Drive

Dec 2, 2009

I recently got an Acer 1810TZ with win 7 installed. My desktop runs win 2000 and the OS is currently less than 2.5Gb and I consider that bloated as originally it was more like 1.4Gb. I like to image and can easily put that on a dvd even without compressing the file.

On my new Acer the OS is taking up between 12 - 14Gb depending if I have a restore configured. I have partitioned the HD into several partitions. I only keep the OS and absolutely min stuff on my C drive and I have one partition dedicated to the page file only, 3Gb, and have all my programs etc installed on another partition. The recycle bin has also been reduced to 256mb on the C drive

Is there a way to significantly reduce the OS (C drive) to say less than 4Gb ?

Backing Up To A Hard Drive And A DVD: Big Image Size Differences?

Apr 24, 2012

I've backed up Windows through the official Windows Backup tool (in the Control Panel) to a hard drive (actually, a second partition). It takes about 8-12 GB (don't remember correctly). Then, right after that, I chose to make a backup also on a DVD, and, surprisingly, one DVD was enough! First of all, it's weird that it could fit into one DVD while if I tried to burn the files form the backup on the hard drive, I would need at least two. And then the second thing: the files on the DVD all take about 3.4 GB. I tried making an image of it though Alcohol 120, and the MDF file takes about 3.4 GB. ImgBurn couldn't make an image, because it's a multiple session DVD. So why is there such a difference in size between system images backed up to the hard drive and a DVD? Can I trust a DVD?

By the way, I tried creating backup with Arconis True Image (I don't remember true name) and Norton Ghost 15 to a hard drive, and their images take about 3 GB. So if the real size of my system image is about 3 GB, then why did Windows backup on HDD take so much place?

It's Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, by the way.

Can't View Folder Size On Backup Drive With Explorer

Nov 19, 2009

When I backup to an external USB drive, Explorer shows the 2 folders created (WindowsImageBackup and MYNAME-PC) as having 0 bytes, 0 files and 0 folders when right clicking those folders and looking at Properties.

Yet, if I right click the drive icon, Properties shows the drive with 15GB of used space.

Is this normal? I'm not using third party software for the backup.

List All Files / By Size Larger Than A Specified Size?

Feb 14, 2013

I am running out of space on my system drive (120GB SSD with < 6GB remaining). It happened in only 12 months. I'd like to know where all that space went, which files are using it. So I'm looking for a way to rank files by size regardless of their folder location, largest-to-smallest, ideally without a full scan of the disk if there are internal indexes that have this info.
