Looking For An External Hard Disk With A Power Off/on Button?
May 27, 2012
i'm looking for an external hard disk with a power off/on button ?about usb2 or 3 , i don't mind.i would like a button to power on and when i don't want to use a power off
My desktop does not detect and external hard drive that do not come with their own power supply. I have many externals that also plug into the wall and they are working fine; but whenever it is an external without a plug, i.e. the portable ones they are never found.
They do not show up in Computer Management, so it is not because I did not assign a letter to the drive.
I have tried various things, but I don't know what I should be testing for or looking for. These externals all work on other laptops and other desktops perfectly fine so it is not the externals. When they are plugged into my desktop, they light up normally like they should, but the desktop never detects them. I have tried these externals with the different USB cable I have on hand, but nothing seems to work. It doesn't matter which USB port I plug the device in, it still gives me no response.
I purchased a Silicon Power Rugged Armor A80 external hard drive to back up my computer & I can't get it to work. When I try to back up MY Documents, it scans the files, then the window says "wrong input" & "access denied".I have been trying to get help from Silicon Power customer service, but they haven't been able to shed any light on my problem. I'm running Windows 7 Professional & have Norton Internet Security. Could there be some kind of incompatibility with my OS or Norton that's preventing access to the files?
i've tried to set the option for pressing the power button to 'Do Nothing' so no body can shut the computer, and yet it shuts down by pressing the button, so why is that and how can i work this out?
I recently installed a program to allow my PC to read Mac formatted hard disks. However, it did not work and from then forward, my PC is unable to detect all other external hard disks, I've tried a few. The drives are not even showing on disk management. The lights on the hard disk do light up with I plug them in but nothing happens.
I have Windows 7 Professional 64Bit installed on a 250GB internal hard drive. I also have a 750 GB secondary drive installed in the system. When I connect an external hard drive to the computer and try to transfer some files (in this case a Windows 7 SDK DVD iso), the external hard drive self ejects and the transfer gets interrupted. The very next second the hard drive comes back on. I have made sure that it is not the external hard drive at fault as the same issue occurs with my flash drive and also my friend's external hard drive (with different files.) I usually did not care and retry it, but recently I have been loosing files when the hard drive ejects itself and it has started to get annoying. Sometimes the file just dose not transfer no matter how many times I try. All that happens is the hard drive gets disconnected and connected again till I just let it be.
Am unable to read or write in my hard disk.. every time it shows msg saying not accessible. i tried to format but even that is not happening. i tried using cmd prompt. but no use.
I've an all-in-one computer but would like to mirror the hard drive with an external usb drive, main hd 1T internal and 2T external partitioned into 2x1T one for mirror and other for data. Is this possable, running 7 Ultimate.
I am trying to boot windows server installed in external hard disk from my windows 7 pc but when I am trying to do so it my pc is flashing blue screen and my pc reboots with win 7.
to create a recovery media on WD external HDD of Windows 7 from the recovery partition on my sony vaio VPCEH25EN laptop. i'm unable to do so from VAIO CARE since it only asks for an optical drive or USB flash drive, so it's not detecting it as a usb flash drive.
Logitech usb hub is not detecting external hard disk seagate 320 gb fr. i have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit while connecting external hard disk directly to usb port its working but when i connecting this hard disk using logitech 4 port usb hub on the same usb port its not detecting but my pen drive is working through usb hub.
My external hard disk up until a few weeks ago had been working perfectly. The next time I used it - windows 7 will not recognise it. I have tried different USB ports and computers. But it doesn't seem to work. It doesn't show up in device manager or disk manager. Its like nothing is plugged in. I tried switching hard disk cases and power supplies. But still nothing. The hard disk seems to try and run every so often, the light flashed red and it makes whirring noises as if it was connecting to the computer.
I dont know what else to do ? And it has almos 1500 GB of data.
I've bought a Toshiba STOR.E D10 Zwart 1,5TB so that I can use e-SATA to connect it to my laptop. I've got a HP Probook 6555b with Windows 7 64bits. When I use the USB connection (this hard disk has both USB an eSATA) all works fine, no problem at all. When I connect it with the eSATA cable I can find the external hard disc and brwose through the files that are on it. However when I try to move files from my laptop onto the hard disk (or the other way around) after about 10 seconds it slows down and stops half way copying. Next Windows Explorer is not responding.
I don't know what is my problem because is not the first time that usb external hard drive is working fine until get damage and said " it need to be formatted " and lost all the INFO because I have to format again the disk to be usefull. Also it is not the same hard disk.
I made a few months back a backup of my machine(windows 7 64bit edition). The size was like 25gb's so I saved it on my external hard-drive(I bought a case and put a hard drive(Seagate I think) in it). I know want to use this to restore my computer. So I made a system repair disk and loaded it up. However it cannot find my external hard-drive. I have "WindowsImageBackup " in my root directory of my external drive. Yet it still does not see it. I would install some drivers but I have no clue what drives I need as when I plug it into my computer and I am in windows 7 it finds my drive. What do I need to make window 7 recognize my image?
This isnt the first time i use the windows backup to create a system image, ive done it before using this external hdd with no problems at all.But now, for some reason it wont detect this hard drive, it only gives me the option to store the image on a dvd, i dont know why?, i tested the hard drive on a different computer and IT WORKS, i tried to create an image and it does work.
By mistake my external hard disk formatted by clean and clean. How to recover my all file Inside now when I connect the pc its detecting hard disk but not showing its connected.
I'm using Dell studio 1558 laptop with Windows 7 and 8 in dual boot.I've 2 external hdd, WD my passport 0740 and Sony HD E1.well in windows7, these 2 ex-hdd or any one of them doesnt go to stand by,but in windows8, they go to stand by (stops spinning, indicator led goes off).In both, windows 7 & 8, same time duration for "turn off hardisk after" are selected, and all other power options are same, I've checked.Even i face the same issue with my windows 7 in desktop. What should i do to make them go to stand by in windows 7 ?
