Started rebuilding a PC, took out the HDD, formatted in caddy, replaced, took out CPU, cleaned replaced, fitted new cooler. Cleaned and replaced GPU. Switched on, all lights fans startup, screen shows Post splash screen, But that's as far as it goes, none of the key notifications work, loading OS disk does nothing? Changed keyboard for working USB one.

I downloaded EasyBCD 2.1.2, used it to recognize EVERY boot record, deleted the MBR on the old HDD, and rebooted.Now, the system boots straight to the new HDD without prompt from bootloader (which is good) but still requires the presence of the old HDD (I disconnected it, alas...)In the end: I called and told the customer that "I'd be happy to GHOST all her data and slap a fresh Windows 7 install on the new HDD (with a fresh/whole MBR) and then drop all her data back onto it. However, this would require more time; the other option being that she accepts the machine for what it is, perfectly functional minus the dependency on the old HDD."have considered this option, but I found ZERO indication of the old HDD failing, other than "BAD" written on the drive with Sharpie. The customer was happy yesterday and accepted the current state (she didn't want to invest more time/money into it) but today when she picks it up she isn't happy because she was told four months ago that the drive was bad and now I'm saying I don't see an indication of it. Other than pulling the data, installing fresh OS, then dropping data back on; or not installing OS with two drives present in the first place?

Usually it shows after a minute or so after windows boots. Even if i keep my computer idle it shows up automatically (but only following a boot). This is irritating me quite a lot
I tried re - installing Windows but still the problem persists. I have a IBM Thinkpad T510 loaded with Windows 7 professional 32 bit. I googled this qute a lot but could not find a fix.

* Uninstalled AVG anti virus
* PC Tools Registry mechanic registry clean up
* Tested Memory - passed
* Hard Drive Self Test ---- # 1 - 7 fail / #10008 Fail > I am guessing that this is the source of the problem, however my computer does still work once everything is finally booted. So I don't know what to do with that information or if that test even matters.
* I have tried looking at the event viewer but every time it says that the event log service is unavailable > I try turning on Windows Event Log but that does not change anything
* I tried "netsh winsock reset" in command prompt, based on a different thread that I found - it didn't work

On Febr. 21st 2012, out of the blue, I could not, and still cannot, scroll by using the scroll wheel on my mouse when I am using the Namo WebEditor software. If I touch the scroll wheel the page scrolls all the way to the top and cannot be stopped. The problem also occurs when I want to select a file from within Namo.Scrolling by using the scroll bar works fine.In all other cases there is no problem whatsoever.The problem is not dependent on the type of mouse.I have a Dell Studio laptop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the longest time I've had this problem where my computer will be on, everything working, then all of a sudden it stops but it doesn't crash.. no blue screen.. and oddly enough it doesn't completely lock up. I try to move the mouse and it may not move instantly, but a few seconds later it will jump and freeze again. It acts as if it goes from normal speed to then processing everything at about .0000001 frames per second, if that makes sense. Upon forcing down the computer, it will restart and hang at the "detecting IDE Drives" part of my Bios boot, then I fully force it down again and it boots up fine. At first it would only do this when I was downloading or installing with my 1.5TB drive installed so, I "uninstalled" it by disconnecting the power and SATA cable and it worked, didn't have any "slow down" or install/download issues after that.Now, I had plugged it back in a few months ago and everything was working fine, downloads were going perfectly fine, installs worked without a hitch, until today I decided to install XNA 4.0. When trying, it did the whole slow down/lock up and required me to restart. Recognizing it, I unplugged the drive again and rebooted. Tried to reinstall, then XNA 4.0 installer kept crashing saying "invalid Drive F:/" which is the drive I unplugged... why it was continuing to look for that drive I have no idea, anyways. I messed around with it a bit I plugged in a USB stick and renamed it to drive F:/, it would start installing but now still do this lock up. Some how after loading my BIOS on a boot and having only my 150GB raptor plugged in (no 1.5 TB, no USB drive) I was able to boot and install XNA 4.0 without errors. However, at the very end it started to lock up and slow down.
Now, whenever I boot my computer it continues to do this lock up, even with the drives I thought were problematic uninstalled. During start up it will make the windows chime and then start to slow down/lock up and act almost as if it's processing the sound in very, very slow motion. It would do this to video as well back when it would crash while I was playing games, until I initially unplugged the 1.5TB drive. Anyways, I am stumped now since it seems to be something completely different than a drive problem and do not know where to go from here. [code]
recently got a new laptop a Lenovo Y570. I moved my entire audio collection from my old laptop over and attempted to play songs in iTunes it repeatedly on the majority of songs skips to the next track at a random point throughout the song.this is not the 20 second preview setting in iTunes as it has skipped the same song at 5 seconds or 45 or even 2 mins in. I then tried the songs in Windows Media Player Classic same thing, and again in Windows Media Player 12. However from a few tests QuickTime seems to play songs fine.I updated the Renesas audio driver and tried the CCCP codec pack, then removed it and installed the basic K-Lite codec pack which seems to have fixed the problem for windows media player 12 but the others still dont work. *update tried more songs in WMP12 and it skips some songs midway thru as well.

But now, I don't know what I did, the notification icon never appears for Dolby. The settings for that icon is set to "Show" but whenever I click on it again, it says "This notification is currently not active" Eventhough, I'm pretty sure it's on.I tried reinstalling, but I keep getting error messages once it's reinstalled. So I have to use System Restore, and this has been driving me nuts...and this keeps going in circles.I think there is something wrong with the registry of this program.When I go to the program location, I have a Dolby Profile Selector, Dolby Profile Editor, and Dolby Profile Launcher...I am so confused now, as I always had the Notification Icon available.I can add Dolby to the Startup Folder, but when turning on the laptop, the entire Dolby profile pops up when Windows 7 boots, and that was not what happened before?

* The repair tools on my Windows 7 installation disc. Again no joy.
* Re-installing Windows 7. I did this as an "upgrade", not as a completely fresh install, as I couldn't face re-installing programs and getting user data off and on. The re-install itself did seem to finish. But every time the computer had to be restarted it would freeze. I then turned it off and on manually, and it continued as expected.

I've not tried restoring to my only system image (9 months old), as I thought this cannot be better than re-installing Windows 7 while keeping the programs and user data ("upgrade"). I did make a Windows Easy Transfer copy of the user files one time when I managed to boot for some reason, so I'm not violently opposed to trying this if there's a good reason.I can start in safe mode. I think the attached protocol file shows two boots: First a regular one which fails, and then a safe mode which doesn't load a lot of stuff but which succeeds. In the first, regular boot there are a couple of drivers that don't load.
When I can afford it, I'm getting another gateway with Windows 7.

I also have a gateway tower S500 XP Pro 32bit SP3 ( 3/2003)
The laptop has 3 restore DVD's with the OS on it (sp1) - also other programs and drivers.
The tower has 4 restore CD's with the OS on it - including 2driver cd's, 2programs cd's.
Can I use the restore CD from the XP or/and vista machine on my Windows 7 machine as a dual boot as long as I wipe the HDD of the XP machine and toss it? ( since all are gateways )
I no longer want to use my XP,win2000 or win98 rigs anymore.
I'm going to wipe the HDD and give them away.
This may not make sense but I can't get my fingers to type what I'm trying to say

I attempted to turn on my computer and it would not boot, freezing on the start up screen. I managed to resolve this initial problem by going through safe mode and doing a system restore to a previous state. However, the laptop now boots up but does not recognize any networks and the wireless adapter cannot be recognised, meaning it only connections VIA ethernet cable. I have tried re-installing the drivers for the wireless adapter but this has not resolved the issue. Short of re-formatting (which I really don't want to do) I'm lost for how this can be resolved.

So I try to do the same thing, I run start up repair, and it says problems can't be solved automatically, I clicked on details, it shows that a problem signature is CorruptFile.This time, theres no BSOD, but it kept leading me to the Start up recovery page (the one with sys restore, restore system using image etc and command prompt). I tried running safe mode, as well as safe mode with networking, last known good config, ran all the options on system recovery/system restore. It seems like the only option i have left is use the command prompt to fix the problem. I lost the windows installation CD, so some of the commands such as bootrec.exe is in vain. I don't really know what i'm doing any way when I use the command prompt. As a last resort, I'm willing to reinstall my comp, what do i do so that i can save some files? also is it possible that I download the reinstallation file since I lost the original one?

Originally I tried starting up normal, it gave me two choices: system repair or start as normal. If I chose normal it would show the windows logo then reset. If I chose repair it would turn black for several minutes, then go to a blue screen for several minutes and wouldn't move past that. So i tried to boot from CD. I have the option of installing windows or repair. I chose repair, once again it goes to the blue screen and nothing happens (and I've left it on this blue screen a good 15 min mind you.) Finally I submitted and decided to just re-install windows. it goes to the starting setup... and sits there indefinably.

However, the big problem starts here: the recovery options in the windows installation disc don't work. It just says it's not compatible with my version of windows (even though I know it must be, since that was the disc I installed from). How can I repair my windows installation? Could I connect my corrupt hard drive to another computer and do it through there?
When I start up Windows, I have two options, "Windows 7" and "Windows 7 Home Premium (Recovered)", and only the second one works. This is annoying because it defaults to the first entry.Some background info: I added a second hard drive to my laptop, and I used an Ubuntu install disc to move Windows 7 to the second hard drive and install Ubuntu to the first (larger) hard drive. When I start up my computer, the Grub boot loader gives me an option between Ubuntu Linux and Windows 7.When I first tried to boot into Windows, it had problems (caused by finding itself on a new drive I assume) and attempted to do startup repair which didn't change anything. It had detected a Windows 7 installed on drive "E", attempted repair, but on reboot I got to the same place. Next I used the Windows 7 Repair disc that I had burned earlier, which appeared to do the exact same process of attempting startup repair, however this time when I rebooted I got the option between "Windows 7" and "Windows 7 Home Premium (Recovered)". The first option causes it to do what it did before, and the second option gets me into Windows 7 fine. Windows still sees its hard drive as "C" which is good.While looking for solutions to this, I found the bcdedit utility. I attempted to rename "Windows 7 Home Premium (Recovered)" to just "Windows 7 Home Premium" to test whether it changed anything, but when I boot up I still get "Windows 7" and "Windows 7 Home Premium (Recovered)". I don't even know where the "Windows 7" entry comes from.

I'm trying to get the animated boot screen to work on my home theatre PC, after scouring what feels like the whole of the internet, I can't find a solution to get it to work, and I'm stuck with the Vista scroll bar. I am using an Asus M4A785D-M Motherboard, however I have disabled the onboard graphics and am using an external card (Radeon 4350). This is plugged into my home theatre receiver which in turn is plugged in to my Sony LCD TV (1080p).
I have tried the following commands:
bcdedit /set {current} locale en-UK and bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US
In the command prompt. I have also tried a repair installation over the original which has not worked. I've also fiddle with a number of different BIOS settings without any luck. The resolution on the screen seems to be downgraded when the animated boot screen appears (i.e. it was 720p and then goes down to 480p), which seems odd.
I just purchased a new video card for my old Acer M3100 that I dual boot the original Vista and Windows 7 on. I bought a new Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 610 video card to play Skyrim. Windows 7 will install the drivers with absolutely no error messages but upon rebooting they won't load and I'm stuck with basic VGA. I booted out and back to Vista and loaded them and they installed fine as well and upon rebooting into Vista they actually load! My Windows 7 install is a recent clean install because I tried upgrading to Windows 8 and didn't do a clean install and it borked itself on all my legacy hardware. Does anyone know why a clean install won't load new video card drivers but my old Vista install loads them fine? (Yet another reason not to abandon the Vista Beast, Vista is the last OS that recognizes my (2) Rio Karma MP3 Players.)I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 7 Pro 64Bit directly from Nvidias website and installed them and still get a "No GPU detected" message when trying to run the NVidia software that comes with the drivers.

The install went ok, I even managed to restart my computer a few times after but after windows updates installed it won't boot. I tried to boot into safe mode, restore from the installer, and repair, none worked. After startup repair it says: "a patch is preventing the system from starting" and I get a 0x1f error code.(Preventing windows from downloading any updates didn't work either)

The laptop sometimes goes to the Boot Manager when turned on, the boot manager flickers and is uncontrollable. Other times it gives off a loud violent beep sound. Once it went to login but the keyboard would not work so i could not login.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI get this error message when i boot up Windows 7:Wireless Configuration: Notification dll has not been registered, program will not work correctly.When i turn it on it goes into Windows Error Recovery mode and only gives me the options of Safe Mode or Start Windows normally.Whichever I choose looks like it's loading up but when it gets to the blue Win 7 Welcome screen the error message pops up.The only option is to click OK. When I do, nothing happens the page blinks on and off and won't go any further until I do a hard shut down.Before this happened i was trying to uninstall Windows live messenger.
