View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded my Outlook 2010 ANSI .pst file to an Unicode format by creating a new .pst and importing data from the old .pst. I want to delete the old .pst,but I get the error message "You cannot delete this Outlook data file. Configuration information in the file is being copied to your new default data file. You can delete the file after this information is copied."I don't think information is being copied, as I've waited to see if it would resolve, but I do think that there is still some connection to the old .pst file that is preventing deletion. I have changed the folder of my email accounts' storage location to the new Unicode .pst. What else do I need to do?

I just installed Outlook 2010 on my new Samsung laptop running Windows 7 a few days ago (an upgrade from Outlook 2002 that I was previously using on my old computer running XP). My husband & I have 4 different email accounts, so I started configuring all of them on the new version & it all seemed to be working fine. Last night my husband moved our saved emails, etc., from our old computer to the new one. At first everything went smooth. All the stuff we still had on the old pc showed up in all the right places in our new inboxes. Once he was finished, we tested send/receive several times & it was all working fine.After powering up the laptop & starting Outlook, I've discovered that all email accounts work EXCEPT our main account. This is the error message I keep getting:
Sending' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'Outlook data file cannot be accessed.'
Receiving' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'Outlook data file cannot be accessed.'
I am trying to move one pst file from one laptop which has Outlook 2010 32 bit to another laptop which has Outlook 2010 64 bit installed, steps taken 1) Copied the pst file from the User/AppData/Microsoft/Outlook folder to usb. 2) Pasted the file from usb into User/Documents folder. 3) Tried to open the file in Outlook and I get the error that Outlook encountered errors while opening the file. Now how is that possible when the file is working perfectly in one laptop but when I copy and paste it into another it gets corrupted? Is it due to 32 bit to 64 bit outlook? I tried to repair it using scanpst and it brought back few mails?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased Outlook 2010 out-of-the-box and am authorized to install it on two machines. It's been running on my desktop (duo-core Intel/Windows 7 64bit) for months now, and I've just gotten around to installing it on my Toshiba Satellite (Athlon/Windows 7 32bit) laptop.
So far, so good, but I don't want to have to manually and tediously set up my email accounts again. let alone copy calendar and notes, etc. How do I transfer all that data over? It'll be especially important when synchronizing the two machines. I tried copying over the C:User...AppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlook folder with contents and C:User...AppDataRoamingMicrosoftOutlook folder as well. No apparent effect.
It used to be that copying Outlook.pst would do the trick, but no longer, apparently.
I haven't touched Outlook in about 5 or 6 years, and it was actually the Express version at that.
I would like to transfer my email files from Thunderbird version 16 to Outlook 2010, which I have now.
Is there a simple way to do this? I have about 4 to 5 gig of email data. Of course it would be too easy, but I don't see an "Import from Thunderbird" option anywhere...
There are a lot of questions about this and none of the proposed solutions seems to work for me. Now that MS has moved on to the 2013 version of the software, it still does not work on 2010. What did people do? Here is the problem have a .pst file from Outlook 2007 on an old computer. I want to use that same .pst file on a new computer running Outlook 2010. I want all my new mail to go to the old .pst file and nowhere else. Now here is what I've tried and what seems to happen:When starting O'2010 it needs your email address. I create that but then it creates a new .pst file named myname@mydomain.com.pstAnd it creates it in C:/Users/myname/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook. If I try to move the new .pst file to the folder entitled C:/Users/myname/Documents/Outlook Files, then when I restart Outlook it recreates the deleted .pst file back in the AppData folder

Sadly the PST file contains all the emails from my email addresses and since I hate deleting emails the PST files are huge. Is there a way to set up outlook so it only goes back X ammount of time for storing email on my system and have some other way to access anything older?Right now I have 10 GB's of files on my laptop and I am sure my desktop to. So I would much rather shrink that down as much as possible, if not then I can move the files to a none OS HDD, but with my laptop at least hard drive space is somewhat limited.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had to do a Windows repair install on my desktop. All files are still intact; however, Outlook 2010 is asking to set up from scratch. I have the old .pst file. How do I go about setting up Outlook to use the saved .pst without creating a new one? I have searched online but have had no luck. While the old computer was being reset, I installed Outlook onto laptop and could merge the old and new .pst files but the calendars, contacts, and rules did not migrate over. I would like to avoid this problem on the desktop computer.

How can I get rid of these messages. I have also checked and the messages are not set to expire.
When I try to open my 2010 Oulook the following window opens: Heading - "Outlook data file password." Message - "Type the password for [my e-mail address]" I cannot change any settings in Outlook, everything is blank except for the window described above. I have tried all the passwords I know I could have or usually use and nothing works. There is no option to type in a username. I do not use an exchage server, only the POP and SMTP settings. I have Windows 7 Pro 32 bit loaded with Office 2010 Home & Business.

I have a fresh install of MS office 2010 and when trying to incorporate my pop3 mail everything works fine, even the test emails, but I can not save profile because i get an error, "This information service is not installed on your computer", so it wont let me create a new data file. when I search for an existing .pst none are found on hard drive. so I'm kinda stuck. I tried the same basic thing via control panel > mail > data file tab > add data file, but i get the same error. "This information service is not installed on your computer." I took a look at my add/remove windows features pane to see if maybe on windows install I missed some email protocols or something but I could not find any. did the same for the office 2010 install, checked to see if I did not install a key feature. still nothing.Tried using IMAP as well since this does not require .pst access but still same error. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have another issue regarding Office Outlook 2007 and Windows 7 RC (Build 7100). When I open up Outlook sometime (pretty frequently lately).
I get a message telling me that the data file was not closed properly last time it was opened and a check is now is progress (whoo-hoo).
I am happy for it to check the file to make sure that there is no problem with it but doing it every single time I open Outlook for the days work ahead (gimme a break).
There was a thread that I came across on here that Ian had posted about disabling the iTunes Add-On in the Trust Center. But I have tried this to no avail.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've been trying to create a Task in Outlook from a Word Document that I have created on this computer. The idea is that a shortcut to the document is created as an Outlook Task. Click on the shortcut, and voila - there is the document.The "Create Microsoft Office Task" icon DOES send the document to Outlook as a Shortcut in a Task, however, when I open the task, Outlook says:"Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments: Shortcut to 'document name'."It's NOT an unsafe attachment; Outlook WILL OPEN this document if I send it as an email attachment. Outlook will open .docx files types.

I created a partition in the free space to copy my documents into so I could overwrite Windows keeping my documents intact. However I did not have enough free space for all my documents so after copying over one batch of files I shrunk the windows partition and extended my document partition. I had to repeat this again so I now have three extended document partitions.[/FONT] I then put in the windows CD, formatted the OS Recovery, SYSTEM Reserved and Windows parititions but then was unable to install Windows as it did not recognise any disks. I attempted FixMBR etc but to no avail.
I searched around and saw i may be able to change the sector hex from 42 (dynamic) to 07 (basic), but im wondering whether doing so will preserve the extended partitions i have? So my question is, will changing 42 to 07 preserve the extended partitions. Do I need to repeat for each 42 (like the link you posted) and then the three dynamic extended partitions will then become one basic partition? At the moment I can not actually see the data so have no idea how to back it up? Otherwise I would do as you say and back it up, format and copy back over.

I have a 500GB dynamic hard drive which had a Windows 7 install on it. I wanted to reinstall Windows, so from within Windows setup I formatted the system and Windows partition, leaving a partition containing documents and pictures (i was unable to delete them). From then, Windows seemed unable to recognise the disk so i searched in DISKPART and found that the disk was labelled as INVALID.
After Googling around it looks as though i can simply change the 1C02 in the hex from 42 to 07 - however, my only concern was that the documents i have on this drive are spanned across three adjacent (dynamic?) partitions - so i am concerned that by focing the disk to be basic i will lose the connection between these partitions. I have a new Dell Inspiron 14Z running windows 7 pro 64bit and i'm using Microsoft office 2010. I'm trying to retrieve archived emails that i backed up on an external hard drive from a previous computer, the files are .pst which is an outlook format but i keep on getting an error message saying the file is not an Outlook data file (.pst). i dont have any other way to retrieve these emails since they were deleted from the server and its about 1.5 years of work emails. Not sure what to do? should i move the files from the external driver to a different location on the computer and open them, or are they corrupted and need to be fixed?

However, I am not that good with computers and don't exactly know how. I have a DVD burning software which I have taken my own personal DVDs and made a copy of them (which is not illegal by the way, I made sure and checked that). But I don't know how to do the same with various video files I have downloaded from the internet or that friends have emailed to me. Some of the files types include AVI, and MKV file types, others I cant find out what kind of file it is. I can play these on my computer and watch them, but I would like to maybe compile the video files and put hard copies of them on DVDs.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and Microsoft Home and Office 2010. Everything was working fine yesterday, but when I came back to work today and attempted to open Outlook 2010, I instantly received a message saying: "Outlook failed to launch in safe mode. Do you want to start repair?" If you try to open it again, it opens a second process of OUTLOOK.EXE*32 in the Task Manager. Here is what I've already tried to do while troubleshooting:
- Restarted the computer
- Performed a MS Office Repair, it completed, rebooted (Did this twice)
- Uninstalled MS Office 2010, rebooted, reinstalled it, rebooted, but same problem occurred
- Verified that the other Office programs work (Word, Excel, etc)
- Tried to run "outlook.exe /resetnavpane"
I'm currently stumped at the moment. I cannot even access the profiles through Control Panel > Mail.
Outlook won't send emails. I get "sending reported error (ox8004010f): The operation failed. An object could not be found." I see other has had the same issue

On first starting Outlook on the new drive I was asked to set up an account but obviously don't want to end up with two of them so I backed out.I do have my original .pst file backed up to a memory stick.
