After I imported a pst into my mailbox(using the option to replace duplicates) I know have strikethroughs on all of the duplicates that should have been replaced.
How can I get rid of these messages. I have also checked and the messages are not set to expire.
I am using outlook 2010 and recently have started having problems connecting to my exchange server account. It has been running hunky dorry since I installed it a few months ago.Now it occasionally connects to the server but mostly shows "Disconnected" all my other email accounts run correctly. Its not the exchange server as my phone and web exchange connect OK, my laptop is running 2007 and it connects OK.

This was solved by adding a credential through 'control user passwords2', a workaround which can be found on several sites.
However, this doesn't seem to work anymore using Outlook 2010 with Windows 7. Or at least it seems to work different, but I can't get it to work. I am trying to move one pst file from one laptop which has Outlook 2010 32 bit to another laptop which has Outlook 2010 64 bit installed, steps taken 1) Copied the pst file from the User/AppData/Microsoft/Outlook folder to usb. 2) Pasted the file from usb into User/Documents folder. 3) Tried to open the file in Outlook and I get the error that Outlook encountered errors while opening the file. Now how is that possible when the file is working perfectly in one laptop but when I copy and paste it into another it gets corrupted? Is it due to 32 bit to 64 bit outlook? I tried to repair it using scanpst and it brought back few mails?

In outlook 2003 I have some contacts which I added manually to address book so there should be an address book of some sort.

I want to delete the old .pst,but I get the error message "You cannot delete this Outlook data file. Configuration information in the file is being copied to your new default data file. You can delete the file after this information is copied."I don't think information is being copied, as I've waited to see if it would resolve, but I do think that there is still some connection to the old .pst file that is preventing deletion. I have changed the folder of my email accounts' storage location to the new Unicode .pst. What else do I need to do?

Sadly the PST file contains all the emails from my email addresses and since I hate deleting emails the PST files are huge. Is there a way to set up outlook so it only goes back X ammount of time for storing email on my system and have some other way to access anything older?Right now I have 10 GB's of files on my laptop and I am sure my desktop to. So I would much rather shrink that down as much as possible, if not then I can move the files to a none OS HDD, but with my laptop at least hard drive space is somewhat limited.

How do I go about setting up Outlook to use the saved .pst without creating a new one? I have searched online but have had no luck. While the old computer was being reset, I installed Outlook onto laptop and could merge the old and new .pst files but the calendars, contacts, and rules did not migrate over. I would like to avoid this problem on the desktop computer.

I installed Office 2007, which has updated to SP3.Using XP I used to be able to successfully use Outlook 2007 for my office email, which uses a microsoft exchange server. I have not been able to get this to connect using Windows 7 despite using exactly the same settings. I have also tried a number of other combinations as advised from other sites but I can't get anything to work?This microsoft fix was also of no help... Error messages when you try to connect Outlook 2007 to Exchange Server: "The action cannot be completed" or "Your Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable" or "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook".I have tried various username combinations: username or domainusername.I have tried various password security options.This is the error message I get: Outlook cannot logon. I installed Win7 (at home) and when I try to configure Outlook 2003 to connect to the exchange server that our company uses. It cannot get access to this server. It says outlook must be online to access the exchange server.
All other internet access works perfectly. I've checked and rechecked all the settings. They are correct. It worked fine on VISTA. I did a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade. Continues to work fine on my XP Pro station. Seems like something is blocking it from going out over the Internet.
I have Avast anti virus running as my preferred AV software. To date I have not needed to use Outlook, but this year its usefulness increased as it saves me accessing work emails through my browser (as well as maintaining the calendar and stuff). So, I start the first run set up. All went well until it asked me to log on to the exchange server. When I did so it refused, eventually telling me I had to turn off the SSL(?). From what I could see, I could only do that after the address was entered into the profile, which it won't let me do. I did some digging and read (somewhere) that Avast was the problem. I tried temporarily disabling filters and logging on again, but no different. As a test, I fired up my laptop, also Windows 7, disabled the Avast filters, started Outlook for first use, set up the Exchange connection, logged on fine. Restarted the filters, all good! So next I try to reset Outlook to first run on my desktop. Can't do it. It resets Outlook to default, but doesn't bring up the set-up screen. I suppose I can uninstall Office all together (I'd only need to back up OneNote at this stage) and run a registry cleaner, but I'd rather not at this stage. I tried importing the registry settings from the laptop (no lectures please). This sort of worked; it now tries to log on to exchange on start up, but still fails. Something is still blocking the connection. Any ideas on what the block is?

On a related topic. Should I install Outlook 2007 on my computer instead of 2003? I chose the 2003 version as I have read reviews that Office 2007 is no good. I'm asking because I can see Microsoft releasing a new version of Office which would be more compatible 2007 than 2003.
The import wizard only imports outlook express contact in wab file format. All my contact are in outlook in pst file.

I have searched and can find only the opposite (to export). I have exported from Windows Live,Hotmail and Gmail, but they are different and won't work. The other problem is I can't change the stationary. It is grayed out and says no other themes installed. I reinstalled the themes and put in the extras. I have folders named stationary that has files in them. you can click on them and see them.

My husband & I have 4 different email accounts, so I started configuring all of them on the new version & it all seemed to be working fine. Last night my husband moved our saved emails, etc., from our old computer to the new one. At first everything went smooth. All the stuff we still had on the old pc showed up in all the right places in our new inboxes. Once he was finished, we tested send/receive several times & it was all working fine.After powering up the laptop & starting Outlook, I've discovered that all email accounts work EXCEPT our main account. This is the error message I keep getting:
Sending' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'Outlook data file cannot be accessed.'
Receiving' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'Outlook data file cannot be accessed.'
I am tring to import my outlook Express Address book to windows 7. It indicated I did indeed imported the files, but They do not show up in my contacts list. I also added my Comcast mail account to the windows mail list and they do not show up there either.

I backed up my files before installing Windows 7, and have an "Outlook Express" folder. However, I can't figure out how to import the contacts I had saved in my address book in Outlook. The Outlook files are in .dbx format, so I am unable to open them.
Does anyone know how I can even access the files so I can see my contacts and copy them down? Importing them would be ideal, but I'll take whatever I can get.

I've been trying to create a Task in Outlook from a Word Document that I have created on this computer. The idea is that a shortcut to the document is created as an Outlook Task. Click on the shortcut, and voila - there is the document.The "Create Microsoft Office Task" icon DOES send the document to Outlook as a Shortcut in a Task, however, when I open the task, Outlook says:"Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments: Shortcut to 'document name'."It's NOT an unsafe attachment; Outlook WILL OPEN this document if I send it as an email attachment. Outlook will open .docx files types.
I am trying to get way from the nightmare of Windows Live Mail 2011, mostly due to two bugs that are still in the latest version of the program.
I'm trying to migrate from WLM2011 to Outlook 2003 and I have run into a brick wall on importing my email accounts. Microsoft has extensive help pages on migrating TO Windows Live Mail, but apparently they do't think anyone would ever want to go FROM Windows Live Mail.
There is a good article at Migrate from Outlook Express or Windows (Live) Mail to Outlook | HowTo-Outlook which covers migrating the messages and contacts, but no one seems to have found any way to get your account data from WLM into Outlook. WLM will export the account data as iaf files (just like Outlook Express did) but Outlook doesn't recognize the iaf files.
I found a couple of old Outlook help pages that talk about importing IAF files, but the procedure shown does not work because Outlook doesn't ever give you any chance to tell it where to look for the IAF files, it just says "No internet accounts were found to import"
I have been trying without success to export Outlook express mail from an XP computer into Windows live Mail on a brand-new Windows 7 HP computer. I have followed the directions on the Internet to copy the Outlook express mail folder onto a flash drive. Then when the Outlook express folder opens with the DBX files, I copied the entire folder to a flash drive. Before setting it up I backed up all my outstanding emails (204 .dbx files) and email addresses (one .wab file size 176kb) from my old computer on to a memory stick. I now want to import them into Windows Live Mail. I have gone through the recommended procedure for the emails, but only some of them have come across. I have been totally unable to import the addresses. The only procedures I have found seem to relate to a different version of Live Mail because they tell me to click on things that don't appear on my screen!It occurs to me that maybe not all the messages are being imported because I haven't imported the relevant contact details. Could this be the case? By the way I can't go back to the old computer as it has completely died, which is why I replaced it.

I'm trying to retrieve archived emails that i backed up on an external hard drive from a previous computer, the files are .pst which is an outlook format but i keep on getting an error message saying the file is not an Outlook data file (.pst). i dont have any other way to retrieve these emails since they were deleted from the server and its about 1.5 years of work emails. Not sure what to do? should i move the files from the external driver to a different location on the computer and open them, or are they corrupted and need to be fixed?

These were lost during the upgrade but are on my laptop, which still runs Office 2003, as .dot type files and I also have them copied to a memory stick. However, I am at a loss as to how and where to save them into the new programme on my desktop PC. If it makes a difference, I should add that I do not use Libraries and have disabled them.

I also installed Windows Live Mail not to use it as an e-mail client, but only as an intermediate to import mail accounts. Therefore, I imported all my many e-mail accounts to Windows Live Mail from previously saved IAF files. Until here all worked as expected. The problem is that now, when I try to "Import internet mail account settings" from Windows Live Mail to Outlook it just answers "No internet accounts were found to import". How come?

I am trying to replicate my Comcast email service that I use on a desktop to a laptop. It runs in Windows Live Mail. I do not have a Windows Essential account nor do I want one.I have downloaded WLM and installed in the laptop. Comcast runs fine but of course I am missing my contacts. I have exported the contacts from the desktop to a csv file and moved the file to the laptop. When I import that file, it only records in WLM 79 of the 649 records that are in the csv file (I looked). During the inport, I checked the mapping and all fields matched perfectly. Both machines are running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit on desktop, 32 bit on laptop) and IE9 browser.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is quite a complex operation and MS doesn't actually explain how to do it so here goes.
The trick is to get your email messages into Outlook Express (OE on XP) or Windows Mail (on Vista) before you can import into Windows Live mail. Then the import can be done directly.
There isn't any way currently to import mail directly from Outlook to Windows Live Mail so you have to do it indirectly BEFORE installing Windows 7.
1) even if you don't use Outlook Express (XP) or Windows Mail (VISTA) you need to have them running on the same machine as your copy of OUTLOOK.
2) create (if you haven't already) email accounts in OE or Windows mail identical to those you have in Outlook.
3) Now import your messages from Outlook into OE or Windows Mail.
4) Change the Store Identity in OE or Windows mail to a disk that your Windows 7 can read (do this under Maintenance - data storage locations in OE or Windows Mail).
Doing this saves you having to install Live Mail on Vista or XP
5) Logon to your Windows 7 system and install Windows Live mail.
6) Set up your email accounts
7) File ==> import==>messages
8) Chose Outlook express or Windows mail depending on step 3)
9) Browse to the directory where you stored the messages in step 4)
10) Job done.
A bit fiddly but obviously MS don't want to make it easy for people to switch from Outlook
Note also the "Send and Receive" function is calles "SYNC" in Windows Live mail -- confusing but there it is.
If you also installed Windows Messenger you can prevent it from starting automatically at startup by going to the Orb ==>acessories==>run. type msconfig and unclick windows messenger in the start up box.
There doesn't appear to be ANY method of importing mail directly from Outlook 2003/2007.
