Importing Outlook Express Address Book To Windows 7?
Jan 26, 2011
I am tring to import my outlook Express Address book to windows 7. It indicated I did indeed imported the files, but They do not show up in my contacts list. I also added my Comcast mail account to the windows mail list and they do not show up there either.
Having successfully moved my address book (.WAB format) to w7 and converted it to .CSV format I can get as far as "Select the Contacts folder that you want to import to" as in the website [URL] but when I click "next" the box is blank where a Contacts folder should be. In outlook 2003 I have some contacts which I added manually to address book so there should be an address book of some sort.
I just installed Outlook 2007. I have 2 problems. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I can't import my address book from Windows Live, Hotmail or Gmail. I have searched and can find only the opposite (to export). I have exported from Windows Live,Hotmail and Gmail, but they are different and won't work. The other problem is I can't change the stationary. It is grayed out and says no other themes installed. I reinstalled the themes and put in the extras. I have folders named stationary that has files in them. you can click on them and see them.
I have over 13 years of Outlook Express folders and addresses that I desperately need to convert to Outlook 2007. I should have imported them into Outlook before I made the "Easy File Transfer" to the new Win 7 machine, but didn't know I needed to do that. Several years ago I had imported the files into Outlook, although that data did transfer it is now way out-of-date and full of duplicates. The up-to-date data is still in my old machine and also in an external hard drive backup. I have isolated the Outlook Express personal folders into .dbx format and the addresses into .wab format. Is there a way this can be reformatted into Outlook? Or is there some other way? I would probably also need to delete what is already in Outlook first, or I would have many more duplicates.
OK, I have OE on an XP computer. I have Thunderbird on a Windows 7 computer. I can export my OE address book to a flashdrive. But Thunderbird does not let me specify the path of the OE address book.
I have been trying without success to export Outlook express mail from an XP computer into Windows live Mail on a brand-new Windows 7 HP computer. I have followed the directions on the Internet to copy the Outlook express mail folder onto a flash drive. The directions I followed were to go to Outlook express, click on tools, options, maintenance, store folder. Then copy store location, go to start menu, click run. Then when the Outlook express folder opens with the DBX files, I copied the entire folder to a flash drive. I have followed the directions on the Internet to copy the Outlook express mail folder onto a flash drive. I go into Windows live Mail import and follow the prompts. It acts like it is copying the DBX folders, however when it is finished there are no e-mails in the imported folder. I have tried over and over and have no luck. I have no idea where the e-mails are or if they are actually available.
I have bought a new computer with Windows 7 preinstalled. Before setting it up I backed up all my outstanding emails (204 .dbx files) and email addresses (one .wab file size 176kb) from my old computer on to a memory stick. I now want to import them into Windows Live Mail. I have gone through the recommended procedure for the emails, but only some of them have come across. I have been totally unable to import the addresses. The only procedures I have found seem to relate to a different version of Live Mail because they tell me to click on things that don't appear on my screen! It occurs to me that maybe not all the messages are being imported because I haven't imported the relevant contact details. Could this be the case? By the way I can't go back to the old computer as it has completely died, which is why I replaced it.
I've read the other threads regarding my problem, but still can't figure out what to do. I backed up my files before installing Windows 7, and have an "Outlook Express" folder. However, I can't figure out how to import the contacts I had saved in my address book in Outlook. The Outlook files are in .dbx format, so I am unable to open them.
Does anyone know how I can even access the files so I can see my contacts and copy them down? Importing them would be ideal, but I'll take whatever I can get.
I just received my new laptop running windows 7 and I installed Outlook Mail 2003. I'm trying to import old outlook express mail (version 6) from my old laptop. Can someone tell me how to do this?
On a related topic. Should I install Outlook 2007 on my computer instead of 2003? I chose the 2003 version as I have read reviews that Office 2007 is no good. I'm asking because I can see Microsoft releasing a new version of Office which would be more compatible 2007 than 2003.
Having problems exporting my comcast address book to windows live mail address book,Also tyied exporting address book from plaxo without success, please help!
I have exported my address book from Outlook 2003 on my desktop to my laptop that is also running Outlook 2003 (office 2003).The only problem, when I exported the address book it also exported deleted items, that had been deleted years ago. s there any way to export and just export what is currently shown in the address book and not the old deleted items. I'm using the export a file option.
While my contact folders are visible, my address book is not. Thus Outlook 2007 address Search in Outlook doesn't work. If I go into Accounts, Outlook shows an address book, but if I click on Change, there is no file listed - thus I cannot change nor delete, and thus add a new one.
Q: How can I get this or any other immediatr contact search in Outlook going?
When multiple accounts are added on Outlook 2010 and you create a new email, autocomplete in the 'to' field shows suggestions from every account. Is it possible to only show suggestions relevant to the account the email is being sent from. For example, if I had my personal account and a customer services account, when I go to send an email from my personal account, every email address who has ever communicated with the customer services account shows which is quite risky.
How would I copy e-mails (the actual e-mail file itself) from outlook express on xp over to windows 7 (windows live mail). Also I need to do the same for addresses.
Heres my problem, I have just installed windows seven and had used xp before that. Id always use outlook express for e-mails, along with all the other users. Now I have a user who wants all their e-mails that they've kept (because they liked them), and all there adresses sent to windows 7 in windows live mail. How can I do this?
I have the address book exported and saved on a flash drive, where are the e-mail files kept?
Would very much like to have folders like in Outlook Express. I would like to hit the "To:" button and select a folder and pick and choose recipients and then tap another folder and select from it. I need to have my contacts segregated in to groupings like above. As is when I drag and drop into a "catagory" and hit the "To:" button I get everybody in that category.
OK .. had (actually still have since I just installed a new hard drive for a clean install of WIN 7 and have the old drive available) XP using Outlook 2003.
Installed WIN 7, loaded the new Beta version of Office Pro 2010 (hey .. it was free and good for a year).
Don't have a Personal address book. My contacts did import into the Contact Mgr but this doesn't enable me to click on several email addys so I can send to multiple people.
Is tehre anything I can do to get the same capabilities I had WIN XP and Outlook 2010 Beta?
BTW .. I also removed Ofc 2010 and went back to my tried and true Office Pro 2003 but have the same problem.
Did the same for the Thunderbird.
I have never went to Vista (so maybe some of the shortcomings/differences were addressed there). I do have a legal copy of OFC 2007 (never been unwrapped since I heard it didn't have any new features I would use over 2003 but had a different GUI look) if that would help.
Also, Don't have all the folders I had with XP and Outlook 2003. I had a LOT of messages stored in different folders but import them (or don't know how).
Like I said .. I can put my old HD in and boot up my XP if I need to do special exports or anything.
I want to backup my Windows Live Mail address book or contacts but I could not find its folder.I thought it would be at C:UsersUser nameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Live Contacts{36 characters folder name} but this folder is empty. Next I tried C:UsersUser nameContacts. This folder is also empty. I did a file search for *.wab but could not find any.Where is the address book or contacts folder located in Windows 7?
I currently have this address book on my xp desktop. I would like to use it on my HP HDX premium 16 series laptop 64 bit with windows 7.0 When I try to load the program, it says that it is not compatible. Help! How do I preserve and use my address book?
How to copy XP/2007 Address Book to Pre-installed Win 7/2010 Outlook Address Book. Older desktop (Win XO, Ofc 2007) works great, but I bought a new Desktop with pre-installed Win 7 Pro and MS Office Pro 2010. I want to copy the address book in the XP Outlook into the new PC's Outlook 2010.
I use gmail. I've upgraded to windows 7. the layout is totally different. How do I reply to an email without htting compose and then typing in the email adress? How do I find my address book?
Just got a new laptop and am getting to know Windows 7! I have used outlook express for years and was bummed to find out it no longer existed. I found windows live mail 2011 on my laptop and have imported my csv address book. My problem is creating groups. I am not using hotmail. I use gmail.
Having installed my Outlook 2003 and imported mt contacts, I cannot figure out how to import or populate my address book. Fifty five contacts, nothing in the PAB folder, and I don't see any way to import.I'd als like Outlook to forward a copy of certain emails to my cell, but that option is not in my Rules.
I have a 91-year old senior citizen friend who lives several miles from me, and his kids just bought him a new computer with Windows 7. He was used to using the Outlook Express (?) on his old Windows XP machine, but now he doesn't have his old e-mail address book.
I'm wondering if there is a way somebody could go over there and cable up his old computer to the new one and import his old e-mail address book into the new computer (dumb question, I know) some where. Right now, he is using his Verizon web-mail for e-mail, and if he had the old address book imported to the new computer, perhaps there's a way to export it to the Version web-mail?
A friend has a new computer with Windows 7 Home premium. There is a complete backup (the old hard drive, actually ) from his old Win XP system; We cannot seem to find a way to import his old address book and message files. I had hoper we could implement a successful import to Mozilla Thunderbird, but have no luck so far.Since the mobo of his old computer failed, the data on his hard drive is the only source of this information. I had encouraged him to use Thunderbird, If he had this problem would have been easily solved since Tbird is very transportable, but he chose to continue using OE.I tried a search for dbx and wab files. I know OE had been working on his old computer and he had an address book and message folders.
I do not have the new laptop on, it is an expensive paper weight at the moment. None of my XP software works. I loaded MS XP Mode, I was able to load Office 2000, neither Outlook or outlook express work and I dispise MS Mail and all web based mail. None of my CAD programs worked in XP mode. Note: Acer does not have the hardware support. I removed MS XP Mode. Loaded VMware Player with XP Pro,loaded all my programs, copied my old HDD to new files in virtual machine. Setup Office 2000 Outlook and outlook express work perfect as does all office 2000. Cad programs work (or so I thought) I wasted 3 hours designing a generator room in one of my cad programs and all was well till I tried to create a new file on the virtual drive and was unable to. Tried to save my drawing to any file, was not allowed.
Spent the rest of the day re-drawing the generator room on old laptop. Tried all of the things on setting up networking the drives and folders, was still unable to create new file folders or save any new cad files. There is nothing wrong with this old laptop, it is just 6 years old and found a great deal on the Acer. Tried to load XP on a new HDD, that failed (somewhat) after loading and looking at the properties, many drivers were not working. It seems all MFG's are looking to MS to develop their drivers. What else can I try to get XP Mode to work like XPI can not afford to upgrade all my programs and with that, none of my old files would be usable.I use several cad programs daily at the same time as I work on several projects at the same time, plus I do all my own quotes and PO's and send to vendors, plus receive in everything. I have to be able to create new files and save everything I do where I want toThis is also the first time I have used a new OS so soon. I usually give it a few years.I went from 95 2nd Ed to XP all was smooth. Stayed away from ME and Vista like the plague
