All I want to do is make and receive land line phone calls on my pc. NOT VOIP. Using a USB headset and USB voice modem. Please can you tell me the specification I need for the modem and suitable software to make it all work?

On her old laptop, (now defunct) running XP, with built-in modem, this was no problem; she simply right-clicked the taskbar and chose "disconnect". Her new laptop, running Windows 7, has no modem, so I got a USB one for her - it connects effortlessly, but we can find no way of disconnecting it and carrying on working offline, except by physically unplugging it, which seems a bit inelegant if nothing else.

View 6 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows 7 64-bit and just downloaded the lastest updates from Microsoft last night. Now my CPU is sitting at 20% due to Deferred Procedure Calls and Interupt Service Providers running constantly according to the resource monitor. What could cause this issue? Could it be a driver that downloaded from MS? I believe the fix for this would be to just restore back to before the install but I have a question about restore points. When I open up the restore point menu and it shows all the dates, do I pick the date of the MS update or one day earlier?
View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently I have noticed higher than normal CPU usage from my laptop which I know will reduce battery life, cause higher temperatures and slow the computers performance.The task manager did not tell me too much so I decided to have a look in the Resource Manager.Sure enough under the CPU tab of the Resource Manager there is a process called System Interrupts that has a description of "Deferred Procedure Calls and Interrupt Service Routines" with a average CPU usage of about 30%.I did notice that when I first turn my laptop on and boot in to Windows that this process uses about 1 - 5 % CPU usage and my temperatures stay at about 28 - 32 degrees Celsius.Usually after some time of using the laptop I notice this temprature rises to about 48 - 54 degrees Celsius and when I check the process it is using around 30% CPU usage, usually to resolve this I restart my laptop and everything goes back to normal and the process is back down to 1 - 5 % CPU usage.I done a little research online and found that clean boot of Windows may solve the problem, I did this then re-installed all the required drivers from my system manufacturer, installed Avast Antivirus Pro then done a Windows Update.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have windows 7 64-bit with realtek on board sound and i can't get my mic to work and as i and my friend try to fix it we realize that that mic won't pick up my voice but my friends hear what i hear on the pc for example if i put a music on the pc from Internet my friend will hear the music but not my voice, i have a razer carcharias headset and yes i plugged it right and i even tried on my dad's laptop he has vista and it worked fine. and fyi my mic worked perfectly before but all the sudden it stop working, one dad my pc crashed because the graphics card got loose and i turned it back on and i realize my mic is not working anymore. i pretty much did almost all the procedures, will buying a sound resolve this problem, by sound card i mean a actually sound card or a external usb 1, it depends on which i can afford.

Instead of typing out a long email, I would like to 'say' it, then attach it to an email. Another route would be to record what I have to say and send an email with a link to the audio. This will help with upload/download of the emails. I know I could just use 'sound recorder' or Audacity, then attach it to my email, but I need something less 'techy' for a member of staff that is just a point and click type of person.

When I clear my browser (IE9) cache, cookies etc, whether via ccleaner or the delete browsing history general tab, I get an annoying voice telling me "how to clear cache, then cookies etc" whenever I open a new window or most new tabs for a sometime afterwards, eventually it stops occuring, obviously fed up with me hitting the mute button, I've checked the audio settings in the ease of access center in control panel, all off & ok, the voice is different anyway.

So I want to use the voice in my application and the other people to use it. But they need to have the voice, otherwise the speech won't work.
