I have a fax modem pci card that I use to send the occasional fax. Is there telephone software somewhere in 7 that would enable me to use the card to make telephone calls through the pc and use the pc as an answering machine ?

Now my CPU is sitting at 20% due to Deferred Procedure Calls and Interupt Service Providers running constantly according to the resource monitor. What could cause this issue? Could it be a driver that downloaded from MS? I believe the fix for this would be to just restore back to before the install but I have a question about restore points. When I open up the restore point menu and it shows all the dates, do I pick the date of the MS update or one day earlier?
View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently I have noticed higher than normal CPU usage from my laptop which I know will reduce battery life, cause higher temperatures and slow the computers performance.The task manager did not tell me too much so I decided to have a look in the Resource Manager.Sure enough under the CPU tab of the Resource Manager there is a process called System Interrupts that has a description of "Deferred Procedure Calls and Interrupt Service Routines" with a average CPU usage of about 30%.I did notice that when I first turn my laptop on and boot in to Windows that this process uses about 1 - 5 % CPU usage and my temperatures stay at about 28 - 32 degrees Celsius.Usually after some time of using the laptop I notice this temprature rises to about 48 - 54 degrees Celsius and when I check the process it is using around 30% CPU usage, usually to resolve this I restart my laptop and everything goes back to normal and the process is back down to 1 - 5 % CPU usage.I done a little research online and found that clean boot of Windows may solve the problem, I did this then re-installed all the required drivers from my system manufacturer, installed Avast Antivirus Pro then done a Windows Update.

On her old laptop, (now defunct) running XP, with built-in modem, this was no problem; she simply right-clicked the taskbar and chose "disconnect". Her new laptop, running Windows 7, has no modem, so I got a USB one for her - it connects effortlessly, but we can find no way of disconnecting it and carrying on working offline, except by physically unplugging it, which seems a bit inelegant if nothing else.

I wanted to create a partition for games at the beggining of the 2nd drive (the left side) as i heard it increased performance to put games in anoher drive and at the beggining of the drive.Will it make difference to make a partition at the beginning or at the end of this drive when it comes to gaming performance?My cousin showed me one game in the same drive installed in the 1st of four partitions of a 500gb 7200rpm (the same i have) performing with 3-5 fps more than that game installed in the 4th partition of that same drive....

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to take my Windows 7 from 32-bit to-64 bit. I know that to get from a 32 bit OS to 64 bit you have to do a clean install. Problem is, i upgraded to 7 from Vista about a year ago using a 32 bit version downloadable installer so there's no discs with 32 and 64 bit version. So I guess my real question is can i use a 32 bit upgrade version's key on a 64 bit non-upgrade version? I could download a 64 bit version ISO and do a clean install with that, right?.as long as the key i already have would work?

Edit: Okay..nevermind..I Frankenstein it and figured it out finally..I just copied the install files onto my USB flash drive and rebooted and set to boot to USB drive.
No need for an ISO
Edit 2: ...Okay..I give up..I get an error during install saying Windows can't install the required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. bla bla

i recently acquired a virus that i've now taken care of, but it seems to have left my computer damaged. i can't change my wallpaper, for one. and whenever i save or upload something (for example, when i want to upload a video on to Internet and you get that window pop-up where it gives you the option to upload something from a certain location), the location for desktop is completely missing when i use one of my browsers - i can't access it at all.
i've also noticed recently that i can't even make changes to my desk top icons. i arrange it by date -for instance- and when i restart the computer, it goes back to the way it was before the change?

I know what you`re thinking: "why don`t you just go for Windows 7 x64 ?". Belive me, I did... or at least, I tried. But I was overwhelmed with BSOD's which I was unable to fix. I posted a thread *here* about the BSOD's, sadly I couldn`t get rid of them. Long story short, 2x2GB=BSOD, but 2GB=OK. Now I`m not gonna sit with a 2GB stick on my shelf. So I`m willing to give up on x64 and just go for x86 (haven`t got around to installing x86, will do that tomorrow; hope it runs ok with 2x2GB RAM installed, otherwise I`m gonna go completely crazy).
Anyway, since x86 only shows 3.25 or 3.5GB out of 4GB, I found a very interesting article about doing something about this. *This is the link* to the article. The instructions on how to tweak Windows start from the part where it says "Patch Details" (around the middle of the article). I`m not a programmer, but I read the whole article and I pretty much understood what he`s saying. I am to understand that the file NTKRNLPA.EXE needs to be modified, but how? With what am I supposed to open it? BCDEdit is used later on, so I don`t think is that I need to use at first. Basicly, I don`t understand with what to open the file.
