The main function of this software is to hide or lock important file in his own folder. This software does NOT encrypt file,So I Hide my important 7-GB data using this softwares and recently my computer was attacked by a virus.So i formatted only my C:// drive, after formatted C:// drive My laptop work completely fine but icouldn't find my important 7-Gb data in d:// drive.
This folder is still in hidden mode and occupy my 7-GB space. I read all user guide manual from this software's website [URL] but I can't find this solution. I tried to see through CMD and and tools>folder option>(uncheck two option) 1. Show hidden files and folder 2. Hide protected operating system files. Using these two method I can't fine my hidden file. How I can get my folders back.
I have a school report I've been working on for amonths now on my Mum's computer. I recently purchased my own, so I emailed the file from her computer onto mine and downloaded it onto my Office Word 2007. The file was uncompatible with my version of office (even though it was from the same disc we bought for my Mum's computer) so it was always saved to autosave. In order to upload it to the school it needs to be saved to the computer and not in autosave. So I tried to save it, and got a pop-up message that told me it was incompatible but I could still save it with no problems. (i don't remember the exact wording) So I went ahead and hit "yes". now the file is missing from the computer and no matter how much searching I do i can't find it. Any shortcuts or links to it that existed before don't exist anymore.

I couldn't find the files I was looking for in either of those two folders. I right-clicked on the Home folder, and then clicked on Properties, thinking that the files I was looking for were hidden. I didn't realize that once I clicked on the "hidden" option that my home folder would be hidden; I brain farted and thought that function allowing me to view hidden files. I realized my mistake a few minutes later.

I found the virus and started scan by looking into msconfig. I saw two objects:

The program files folder is hidden by the virus, you go to C: and it is not there. What can I do about it?? Its not hidden through the standard windows hidden files (I have showing of hidden files enabled, and I still cannot see it).
I tried combofix but it doesn't work for OS higher then XP, how can I restore my Program Files folder??
The Program Files is still there (programs that are installed there are working, and you can find things there through search in start menu, but you cannot see the folder itself).

There is no discrepancy between the size of the remaining folders and the reported size of the folder that contained it along with the remaining folders.
The drive in question is a 2TB WD Mybook external that may be showing its age- another folder had a cyclic redundancy check error, and the folder in question developed one several weeks later. I'm making plans to move my data off and have already duplicated the most important files on it.When the folder developed the CRC error mentioned in the previous paragraph, I ran scandisk. It was after running that utility that I found it had disappeared, so that is the most likely reason. However, the other folder remained (with error unfixed, eventually resolved by using testdisk to copy the folder to another drive.)
I was clicking around in my C drive because I was trying to find a folder that was hidden. I right clicked, click properties, selected the "hidden" folder attribute to the administrator folder, and clicked apply to all folders, subfolders, etc. I realized this was not the right thing because it just hid all the folders inside, so I undid it.Afterwards, it kicked me off of skype and when I tried to log on again, it said my disk was full when it is obviously not and gave me the "disk i/o error"In addition, I clicked firefox and it gave me a dialog box that said "Could not initialize the browser security component, etc etc and gave me another warning about my disk being full.What did I do? (it's to fix an issue with the game Dead Space 2) Anyway, I opened My Computer, then C drive, then Users. In here, I right clicked on empty space and opened properties. I checked 'Hidden' and apply. Said it needed administrator rights, I accepted. Then most desktop items disappeared, most files from my documents disappeared and after reboot, The ATI catalyst control centre is popping up an error message saying 'failed to start'.I realised I chose to hide all the files within that folder instead of showing hidden files/folders..I went to folder options and chose Show Hidden file and I can see them again but they have that see through look to them. ATI catalyst still won't start on reboot. After running all the most current Windows 7 updates, my Windows 7 laptop using Wi-Fi can no longer communicate with shared folders on my desktop XP PC that�s hardwired to my Netgear G router.My XP desktop can still access the folders on the Windows 7 laptop. From Options - Display, I chose show hidden text and it was "Top of Form" at the top of the page. Files such as bootmgr and ntldr are shown and I can't hide them. Also, show Protected System files is unchecked and show hidden files is also unchecked so they shouldn't be showing. I have local administrative permissions. I changed my temp folder environment variable to point to a different location, but this is the second time this has happened (first time was on different machine). For some reason, when changing users to my wife's profile, the desktop has to be prepared each time - as a temporary profile. The folder location has moved from Users/wife to Users/Users/wife and has a lock icon on it. I have tried moving the entire folder as administrator and received a not responding message.Short of a restore in which I will lose data is there a way to 'import' her profile under a new user and then delete the corrupted profile?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.
My documents turned into local disk (D when trying to relocate "My Docs" to my second partition. Under the location tab I did not rename the folder and just left D:. Now local disk (D has seemed to replace "My Docs" folder. Please help me put "My Docs" back on (C. OS WIN 7?
