Accessing Hidden Folder?
Jan 5, 2012i heard that when you delete a file, it actually puts it into a hidden folder in the recycle bin. i enabled the visibility of hidden folders, but i did not see it there.where else could it be?

Destination Folder Becomes A Hidden System Folder
Jun 9, 2012I've created a batch file containing the xcopy command to copy the entire partitioned drive to a folder on an external hard drive.However, when it is executed it works fine but the destination folder, called Backup, becomes a hidden system folder. Does any one know why this is the happening.I'm performing the xcopy on my parents computer, which is on Windows 7.

I used tools like "scan disk" and "defragmentation" but nothing worked. I use Windows 7 64 bit unlimited.

I couldn't find the files I was looking for in either of those two folders. I right-clicked on the Home folder, and then clicked on Properties, thinking that the files I was looking for were hidden. I didn't realize that once I clicked on the "hidden" option that my home folder would be hidden; I brain farted and thought that function allowing me to view hidden files. I realized my mistake a few minutes later.

I found the virus and started scan by looking into msconfig. I saw two objects:

The program files folder is hidden by the virus, you go to C: and it is not there. What can I do about it?? Its not hidden through the standard windows hidden files (I have showing of hidden files enabled, and I still cannot see it).
I tried combofix but it doesn't work for OS higher then XP, how can I restore my Program Files folder??
The Program Files is still there (programs that are installed there are working, and you can find things there through search in start menu, but you cannot see the folder itself).

Apr 8, 2012A folder has disappeared from an external hard drive, as confirmed by plugging it into another computer and checking, searching for several filenames it should contain on all possible drives (with hidden files shown), and searches with Recuva and testdisk of deleted files. There is no discrepancy between the size of the remaining folders and the reported size of the folder that contained it along with the remaining folders.
The drive in question is a 2TB WD Mybook external that may be showing its age- another folder had a cyclic redundancy check error, and the folder in question developed one several weeks later. I'm making plans to move my data off and have already duplicated the most important files on it.When the folder developed the CRC error mentioned in the previous paragraph, I ran scandisk. It was after running that utility that I found it had disappeared, so that is the most likely reason. However, the other folder remained (with error unfixed, eventually resolved by using testdisk to copy the folder to another drive.)

Aug 23, 2010I was clicking around in my C drive because I was trying to find a folder that was hidden. I right clicked, click properties, selected the "hidden" folder attribute to the administrator folder, and clicked apply to all folders, subfolders, etc. I realized this was not the right thing because it just hid all the folders inside, so I undid it.Afterwards, it kicked me off of skype and when I tried to log on again, it said my disk was full when it is obviously not and gave me the "disk i/o error"In addition, I clicked firefox and it gave me a dialog box that said "Could not initialize the browser security component, etc etc and gave me another warning about my disk being full.What did I do? Obviously my disk is not full but these two programs think it is full and is giving me error messages.

(it's to fix an issue with the game Dead Space 2) Anyway, I opened My Computer, then C drive, then Users. In here, I right clicked on empty space and opened properties. I checked 'Hidden' and apply. Said it needed administrator rights, I accepted. Then most desktop items disappeared, most files from my documents disappeared and after reboot, The ATI catalyst control centre is popping up an error message saying 'failed to start'.I realised I chose to hide all the files within that folder instead of showing hidden files/folders..I went to folder options and chose Show Hidden file and I can see them again but they have that see through look to them. ATI catalyst still won't start on reboot. I tried system restore to yesterday but still exact same.When I go to User Properties on the C drive again, it shows the files as Read Only and Hidden is unchecked.

Feb 17, 2012I'm running on a relatively new install of Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. I recently (about 2-3 weeks ago) installed a new HD and decided to have a fresh start so everything was formatted followed by win 7 install. Everything has been running great up until mid day yesterday. Out of what seems like nowhere I experienced 6 or 7 BSOD's yesterday and from what I could tell they occurred when I tried to do any of the following: 1. Access drive D and play a video file (This is the new HD, it would instantly BSOD). 2. Access internet within 1 minute of startup.
Since yesterday I haven't had any BSOD's and have had the computer running, I haven't tried to play any videos off of HD and haven't reset my computer since (hoping that whatever it was has gone away, although I'm sure it hasn't). For the record I have accessed some music files on drive D without any issue, as well as several word and excel documents (not sure if that makes any difference?)I have a feeling it may have something to do with my new HD that I installed, but have no idea what it could be as it was running without issue up until yesterday (for at least 2 if not 3 weeks).
My system specs are as follows:S: Windows 7 64bit UltimateManufacturer BIOSTAR Group Model A740G M2+ Total amount of system memory 6.00 GB RAMSystem type 64-bit operating system umber of processor cores 2 isk partition (C) 272 GB Free (298 GB Total) isk partition (D) 1630 GB Free (1863 GB Total) isplay adapter type NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 other info:-all drivers should be up to date to the best of my knowledge- i've looked around and have seen a lot of recommendations to run memtest? Accessing IE "History" Folder Remotely

From Options - Display, I chose show hidden text and it was "Top of Form" at the top of the page. But I got curious about this and made some search and I realized that you can hide text in a txt file with a stream method and also there can be hidden streams in processes also.How can I find out if a doc(x) file has no streams in it. I mean the hidden text may be seen by the method of Options - Display; but can someone hide something with a password in a doc(x) file? If yes, how can I find this out?

Sep 11, 2011Some of my important system files are no longer hidden and I can't hide them even with the Command Prompt "attrib" command. Files such as bootmgr and ntldr are shown and I can't hide them. Also, show Protected System files is unchecked and show hidden files is also unchecked so they shouldn't be showing. I tried to re-add their system file attribute but I keep getting an "Access Denied" error in CMD and I do not have user account control on and I'm on a Default Administrator Account.

Sep 24, 2012I was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.

Oct 29, 2012My laptop started randomly shutting down a while ago but only when i play a game, but if i have both of my 3d modeling programs, itunes, chrome, and other programs running the computer would run fine for hours on end. A couple days ago the laptop did its usual random shutdown. so i started it back up and the mouse wouldnt work. so after opening it up and reconneting the cable to the board the computer wont boot. It'll get to the starting windows screen but after a minute or two it show a blue screen for about a fraction of a second then restart. It'll keep doing that till i uplug it and take the battery out. I cant start in any of the safe mode options, i cant launch windows repair. Im not able to use a recovery disc cuz the laptop didnt come with one. I basically cant do anything. Now the computer will shut down randomly again but during startup, but the laptop is still cold. So now i decided to take out the hardrive hoping to either save the files or most of them at least or to find the cause of my problem and fixing it. After i hook the hard drive up to my desktop via SATA cable it shows up in My Computer as System Reserved and Local Disk (F: ) but i cant access local disk but i can access system reserve. At the top of the explorer i just get a green bar that never reaches the end and when i click on local disk the explorer becomes unresponsive and what not.
I open devices and printers and it read the hard drive as usb storage so i checked device manager and it recongizes it as a Hitachi Hard Disk. When i click on disk management Nothing happens besides at the bottom it says " Connecting to Virtual Disk Service" for an extreme amount of time. I also tried booting the hard drive on the desktop but it goes through the same proccess as it did on the laptop and i also cant do anything.

May 18, 2012I have a desktop (Using it right now) with a hard drive, 7 etc etc and everything works fine. I am however having issues accessing a hard drive from an old lap top I used to own. It was sold, but I kept the hard drive. This was a while ago so I can't remember its OS, but I'm pretty sure it was XP but possibly vista. I have plugged it into one of my towers extra hard drive spots in hopes of being able to retrieve some old pictures from it.This is my problem: After reboot, it got a message saying the usual installing device driver software thing, after that... nothing. I will try to explain a little bit the situation: have a Dell xps l501x with a home edition windows 7 licence.Since I prefer to use linux, I resized the Windows7 and create another partition for the linux distribution when I bought. So I had Windows 7 and linux (arch linux) working together for some months.I barely used Windows 7 so I decided to use virtualbox to use windows7 (the raw device as a harddrive). And here started the problems, because I ended with a black screen and the mouse pointer in windows7 (the probably was due to a resolution problem)After many months (as I said, I barely used it), yesterday I decided to fix the problem and I managed to do it. But now I have another problem that I don't know how to fix it (I'm not using virtualbox anymore).
When I start windows 7, the wallpaper is black with the infamous "compilation 7600" and many advice that "is not a genuine copy" (actually it is), and a lot of errors at start. Trying to use the OS:- Many application don't work. Even diskmgmt.msc doesn't work.- I can't access C drive, if I tried prompts an error about permissions, even if I change the permissions I can't access. And If I try to see the properties all the values in the c drive are "0 bytes" (size, free space...)Regarding that, I can't download anything.It seem the c drive is not recognized and I suppose that is the main problem.If I boot with the option "Directory Services Restore Mode" I can acces to C and everything seems to work better. And in the properties the values are correct (the size, free space....)

Personal VPN Without Remote Accessing
May 5, 2011I have a Dell Dimension 8300 and a Gateway MFATXPNT ESX 500S P04 just sitting around. Lately I have been thinking about trying to make one of them into what I can only describe as a VPN. I don't really know what I am talking about so I am going to tell you my result, or the end goal, of what I want to have happen.So basically I want the "Machine" to: act as a firewall, mask my IP and Subnet Address, and encrypt what pages I visit and what I download. I don't have to be able to access it from a remote point but the option is always nice.I am not downloading or uploading anything illegal. I just want another project and I figured this would be good to do until I can go to school to become an IT Administrator.

May 9, 2012I have a readyNAS Duo where I keep all my music files, a few days ago the Raidar program stopped allowing me to browse the drives saying to check spelling and error code 0x80070035 was displayed, I can access the NAS via it's web page but this does not allow me to access the file structure.This is via my router.If I connect the ethernet cable from the NAS straight into the PC all is fine?
