Made a drive/folder hidden but cannot remember how to un-hide drive or folder. Can anyone shed some light on this problem I am having. Running homemade pc and windows 7 ultimate?
View 1 RepliesA folder has disappeared from an external hard drive, as confirmed by plugging it into another computer and checking, searching for several filenames it should contain on all possible drives (with hidden files shown), and searches with Recuva and testdisk of deleted files. There is no discrepancy between the size of the remaining folders and the reported size of the folder that contained it along with the remaining folders.
The drive in question is a 2TB WD Mybook external that may be showing its age- another folder had a cyclic redundancy check error, and the folder in question developed one several weeks later. I'm making plans to move my data off and have already duplicated the most important files on it.When the folder developed the CRC error mentioned in the previous paragraph, I ran scandisk. It was after running that utility that I found it had disappeared, so that is the most likely reason. However, the other folder remained (with error unfixed, eventually resolved by using testdisk to copy the folder to another drive.)
I've created a batch file containing the xcopy command to copy the entire partitioned drive to a folder on an external hard drive.However, when it is executed it works fine but the destination folder, called Backup, becomes a hidden system folder. Does any one know why this is the happening.I'm performing the xcopy on my parents computer, which is on Windows 7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn windows XP, I could turn off the annoying "remember folder settings" that forced each folder to have it's own settings instead of always being in the same as the one I left it when I closed it. Windows 7 does not do that. I can tell it to "make all folders like current" which isn't what I want. Is there an option or was that removed to be made inferior to XP in another way?

View 3 Replies View RelatedEarlier today I was trying to find some files in my Users folder which contained both the folders "Public" and "Home." I couldn't find the files I was looking for in either of those two folders. I right-clicked on the Home folder, and then clicked on Properties, thinking that the files I was looking for were hidden. I didn't realize that once I clicked on the "hidden" option that my home folder would be hidden; I brain farted and thought that function allowing me to view hidden files. I realized my mistake a few minutes later.

Then I applied and OK the changes. Still I don't see my hidden file. The F:/ drive shows that I have 7GB of data in it. But it shows a folder of 98MB only.

I found the virus and started scan by looking into msconfig. I saw two objects:

The program files folder is hidden by the virus, you go to C: and it is not there. What can I do about it?? Its not hidden through the standard windows hidden files (I have showing of hidden files enabled, and I still cannot see it).
I tried combofix but it doesn't work for OS higher then XP, how can I restore my Program Files folder??
The Program Files is still there (programs that are installed there are working, and you can find things there through search in start menu, but you cannot see the folder itself).

I have a USB Kingston DataTraveler 2 GB jump drive that my wife uses with our philips stereo. I used HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool 2.2.3 with some Windows 95 files to create a bootable USB. After i was done I deleted everything on it and put mp3s back on. The stereo says "no audio found". I used Acronis Disk Director 11 to delete the partition and put FAT32 partition on there. Same thing with the stereo saying no audio found.

my girlfriend gave my her USB Flash Drive (LINK) and said, that it was write protectet.As you can see, this USB drive doesnt have any switch at all. She gave it to a friend of her, who used it to copy some data to her notebook and after my girlfriend got it back, the drive was write protected and it wasnt possible to write anything on it.My girlfried thinks her friend didnt remove the stick properly or maybe removed to early.

i have recently purchased a toshiba 500 GB external HDD. This drive doesn't seem to remember the drive latter assigned to it. I have to manually assign the drive latter everytime i plug in the drive in disk management. Its not a big issue but a bit irritating what should i do?

2.Subsequently I made the locker invisible using "Folder Protect" software.
3.When I was trying to add more files to the locker created in 1 the locker tried to "increase it's size on the run"...
4.This process failed and "Folder Lock" shut down and since then I cannot locate the locker anymore on my PC nor can I see it in "Folder Protect"
5.Having read on a forum, I uninstalled "Folder Protect" and reinstalled...but that did not help..I still could not find the Locker.
6.I even uninstalled and reinstalled "Folder Lock"...even this did not help
7.I understand the lockers created by "Folder Lock" are UNDELETABLE.
8.Clearly my locker is somewhere on my hard disk but I am unable to locate it.
I was clicking around in my C drive because I was trying to find a folder that was hidden. I right clicked, click properties, selected the "hidden" folder attribute to the administrator folder, and clicked apply to all folders, subfolders, etc. I realized this was not the right thing because it just hid all the folders inside, so I undid it.Afterwards, it kicked me off of skype and when I tried to log on again, it said my disk was full when it is obviously not and gave me the "disk i/o error"In addition, I clicked firefox and it gave me a dialog box that said "Could not initialize the browser security component, etc etc and gave me another warning about my disk being full.What did I do? Obviously my disk is not full but these two programs think it is full and is giving me error messages.

(it's to fix an issue with the game Dead Space 2) Anyway, I opened My Computer, then C drive, then Users. In here, I right clicked on empty space and opened properties. I checked 'Hidden' and apply. Said it needed administrator rights, I accepted. Then most desktop items disappeared, most files from my documents disappeared and after reboot, The ATI catalyst control centre is popping up an error message saying 'failed to start'.I realised I chose to hide all the files within that folder instead of showing hidden files/folders..I went to folder options and chose Show Hidden file and I can see them again but they have that see through look to them. ATI catalyst still won't start on reboot. I tried system restore to yesterday but still exact same.When I go to User Properties on the C drive again, it shows the files as Read Only and Hidden is unchecked.

Does it no longer exist? Is there a way to have this function? It would be a bit of a bummer if not. It's not very convienent to have all the windows open on top of each other.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have backed up all the files and emails from a faulty hard drive before inserting a new one and setting up Windows on it. However, because the drive was in such a bad way, I did't run Outlook to extract the email account settings - and now realise that these are hidden in the registry. I have tried importing the registry files (after doing some research on this), but cannot find the registry section which contains it.
Now that the the new drive is fully running (apart from the email account settings) - Windows Vista upgraded to Windows 7 - would it be too risky to re-insert the drive in the laptop to run Outlook and get the settings recorded ? I am concerned that it will cause error messages when I re-insert the brand new drive. I have thought about booting up a computer from the faulty drive, but think it may refuse to load because it's a different PC to one it came out of (Dell XPS M1530) - is this the case ?
My folders on my hard drive are hidden (the only way I can view them is through Folder and Search Options in Organise). I can not unhide. From Options - Display, I chose show hidden text and it was "Top of Form" at the top of the page. But I got curious about this and made some search and I realized that you can hide text in a txt file with a stream method and also there can be hidden streams in processes also.How can I find out if a doc(x) file has no streams in it. I mean the hidden text may be seen by the method of Options - Display; but can someone hide something with a password in a doc(x) file? If yes, how can I find this out?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a drive that doesn't show in Windows Explorer, but if I open Computer Management, it shows that it exists and is functioning properly.It is an external drive, connected by USB 2.0, directly to the computer, which is a Dell XPS 410. The drive itself is a Western Digital. It was working fine as of last week (which is when I last noticed; it could have been working until a later date) and I don't recall any additions/subtractions/changes to my system.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSome of my important system files are no longer hidden and I can't hide them even with the Command Prompt "attrib" command. Files such as bootmgr and ntldr are shown and I can't hide them. Also, show Protected System files is unchecked and show hidden files is also unchecked so they shouldn't be showing. I tried to re-add their system file attribute but I keep getting an "Access Denied" error in CMD and I do not have user account control on and I'm on a Default Administrator Account.

I don't have this trouble with any other drives, or elsewhere on my computer, so it seems somehow to be associated with this specific drive.Of course I check to make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is turned off.
