Made Bootable Flash Drive Won't Recognize Usb?
Apr 15, 2011
I have a USB Kingston DataTraveler 2 GB jump drive that my wife uses with our philips stereo. I used HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool 2.2.3 with some Windows 95 files to create a bootable USB. After i was done I deleted everything on it and put mp3s back on. The stereo says "no audio found". I used Acronis Disk Director 11 to delete the partition and put FAT32 partition on there. Same thing with the stereo saying no audio found.

my girlfriend gave my her USB Flash Drive (LINK) and said, that it was write protectet. As you can see, this USB drive doesnt have any switch at all. She gave it to a friend of her, who used it to copy some data to her notebook and after my girlfriend got it back, the drive was write protected and it wasnt possible to write anything on it.My girlfried thinks her friend didnt remove the stick properly or maybe removed to early.
1. After that I tried to use the drive on several computers to check, if only my girlfriends MacBook was the Problem:
My notebook: Sony Vaio VPC CB3S1E with Windows 7
Her Macbook: MacBook Pro 13" Max OS X Lion
My notebook using Ubuntu 12.04 disc version
PC's in university which use Windows XP.
2. After we saw that the flash drive wasnt working on either of the systems, I looked on the internet for a solution. I did the same things which are described in THIS thread under Step 1 to 4.
3. Then I used HP Format Utility like Step 4 said. I used the software and now her MacBook doesnt recognize the flash drive at all and Windows 7 does recognize it, but when i click on it, Windows says that I have to insert a removable media in E:
4. Now that the flash drive wasnt usable at all, I tried to the other steps (1, 2, 3, 5 & 6), which where described in the thread but nothing works.

Learn how to make any bootable CD or DVD bootable on a USB flash drive. This process allows you to quickly and easily create bootable USB flash drive copies of important software, such as Microsoft Windows, firmware update utilities, and various Linux operating system distributions. Most CDs and DVDs that are bootable in a native environment can be made bootable on USB with the Universal USB Installer utility by Pen Drive Linux.See: Universal USB Installer - Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux

I just received my new Corsair 16GB Survivor Stealth USB Flashdrive. Is it possible to make the USB drive bootable...yet still able to store regular files (word docs, pictures, mp3's etc.) without compromising the ability to make it boot if needed? If so what is the best way to go about making this happen? (I already know how to make a flash drive a dedicated bootable).

I noticed on the forums over the last few months, many people for one reason or another having problems getting their DVD drive to boot from their newly purchased Windows 7 DVD disks, but given that many retails and e-tailers will not accept boxed software returns, I thought I would write up a quick guide on how to create a bootable flash drive that you can install Windows 7 from. This guide can also apply to those who can boot from the DVD, but are having problems finishing the install process.

I currently have a disc copy of windows 7 and I am currently running it as my main OS as well. I was wondering just in case my computer decides to have a few issues is there anyway I can make a data partition to store windows 7 or put it on a flash drive so that in the incident of a hardware failure I would be able to go into my bios and boot the recovery partition or boot it from a flash drive allowing me to reinstall the OS.

my main pc got a new motherboard and requires a fresh install of windows 7. Ok, I have the windows 7 iso and I have the motherboard installed into my computer. I put the ISO on my flash drive but when I booted from the flash drive I got "Reboot and select a proper boot device or insert media in selected device and press a button." After 2 days and countless hours searching I can not get this to work. The computer I am on right now is a Windows XP 32x laptop. Is it even possible for me to make a usb drive loaded with windows 7 ultimate 64x for another computer? With every step by step guide I found on how to do this they either said to use the Windows 7 usb dvd download tool (which is what I have been using since the beginning to no avail) or do it manually. To do it manually involves the Diskpart feature of the command prompt, which on xp, doesnt detect flash drives. So...I cant do it manually.tell me if I have to reinstall my old motherboard (heatsink installation is a pain which is why I dread installing motherboards) and then upon reinstalling old motherboard do I have to set up my flash drive (again) and hope I didnt mess up just to rip the motherboard back out and put the new new one back in and hope the usb boots this time?

I am trying to upgrade my dad's Dell Inspiron 530S to WIn 7. I have chosen removable from the boot menu for the 1st 2nd and 3rd options, but the USB keeps getting passed over on start-up. I cannot see any menu functionality that lets me add USB. Right now removable is listed as floppy disk. He is on BIOS 1.0.13 (just upgraded to 1.0.18 same issue) running Win XP service Pack 3.

I am trying to update the BIOS of my 'ASrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3' from v1.00 to v1.20. I am running Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. I got the BIOS file from: [URL]. It did not register the BIOS file I had put on my USB drive when going to my BIOS settings. There is an "Instant Flash" function in there. I have tried to make a bootable USB-drive to do it directly from DOS, but my drive can't be formatted as an MS-DOS boot drive. I have tried using HP DriveKey which seemed to work as intended, but it didn't work, the drive was still not recognized in bios. Do you think it's my drive? I don't have another drive with me right now to try it out. I know this is a not really a Windows 7 issue, but I couldn't find a proper category.

Did I miss something? I always thought defrags made more space on your computer by organizing files and making programs run faster
But when I did a defrag, using Defraggler
I went from 83 gigs free space to 79 gigs free space
I even restarted, and nothing changed
I think that's kinda weird .
Or maybe I don't know something about defragging, and its suppose to do that.

I want to create a bootable flash usb with a customized tiny Win7 of WinXP as a OS with a few admin tools i want to use for support on pc's/laptops.
Tools i want to use are like:
-Norton Ghost

The ideal scenario should be that i can choose a menu when the flash usb has started with the following:
1. Northon Ghost (to image a partition/disk to another HDD partition or disk))
2. A tiny OS of Win7 or WinXP (to start OS with some admin tools like CCcleaner ,Malwarebytes Antivirus ,Ad Aware SE )
3. MSDos or something else
I have been reading several websites and used tools like PE builder,WinToFlash or Winbuilder but i never could make it work like i described now..

I have a compaq presario that keeps showing this. I put another HDD in and it is saying the same thing. Does it mean the old HDD was buggered and I need to do something to the new one to sort out boot order or anything? or is this not a HDD issue. I have two broken compaq presarios here. One with no screen working and one saying no bootable disk drive.

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate as the bootable C: drive and wish to add a 2nd bootable drive using a caddy holding the 2nd HDD in a modular bay. If I wish to install Windows XP on the 2nd HDD it will presumably be configured as the D: drive and all the programs installed on it will adopt the assignation as being on D: Am I correct in assuming that if I swapped this drive into the main laptop drive bay most or none of the programs would work as their configuration would not be set up for a C: drive? I would prefer to get the 2nd bootable OS on the drive in the caddy as it will save constantly having to remove the C: drive and swap it with the 2nd drive. I am sure this is a fairly common issue, it's just that I have never set up this type of configuration before.

I recently installed windows 7 home premium 64 bit, previous OS was Vista home premium 32 bit. My desktop is an HP pavilion d4650y. I have the OS loaded on my main HD which is a SATA.
HD & DVD drive worked perfectly before on vista. I tested both devices on another pc with XP and they work fine. I've triple checked the connections but still the devices are not recognized by Windows 7. I've also tried renaming the HD & changing the drive letter, but still no luck.
Both drives are connected to a PCI E card, and are set to cable select, on separate cables. In the BIOS both drives show up. In disk management they do not show up at all.
My HD is a western digital 250 gb EIDE, and the DVD drive is a IDE Pioneer DVD burner (secondary disc drive).

I had XP and Vista installed on my primary SATA hard drive (on SATA0 channel). There was no space for another operating system, so I added a secondary hard drive (to SATA2 channel) and installed Windows 7 to it. It worked perfectly. After a few weeks my old primary hard drive suddenly died, and the computer doesn't boot anymore. So I put the remaining live hard drive to SATA0 channel, and bought another new SATA drive and put it to SATA2 channel. Now I need to add boot files to my drive, because both operating system and data files are there, I just need to let the computer start.
So I have one good healthy SATA drive, Windows 7 installed on it, but without boot files, because that other (now dead) drive was used to start up the computer. I though that Windows 7 Installation DVD will help, but it doesn't. When I try to use its repair disk feature, it fails to find any installed Windows, so it says there's nothing to boot to, nothing to reapir. If I use the command line utility from the same DVD, I can see both my C: and D: partitions are there, with all files, I can see all my directories, I can see Windows folder, Program Files folder etc. But what does it need to boot?
I also tried "upgrade" from W7 Installation DVD, but it says that I should run this option from inside Windows. Since I cannot start the Windows, this option isn't for me. When I tried a new fresh installation, I got a warning that all my current data will be overwritten, and that also isn't option I am searching for.

I recently built me a new pc. Everything went fine and I managed to install windows 7 64 bit. Couple of days later, I needed to re-install windows again. So I changed the bios so that it would recognise the dvd drive and boot the windows cd. However, this doesn't seem to happen. Once windows is installed, the Sata drive is recognised in windows and is usable. I managed to get a workaround by using an ide dvd drive to install windows but I would like to be able to use the Sata drive that I have put in the machine.

When I installed windows 7 64 Ultimate I set up a multiboot machine from within Vista, I installed windows 7 and Ubuntu on separate hard drives (one HD per OS). The boot menu is on the Vista drive. All drives are SATA.I soon formatted the Ubuntu drive and removed the option to boot to it. My Vista OS no longer boots, it just hangs whilst loading so I want to format that drive now and just use Windows 7. However, I have tried removing all the hard drives apart from the windows 7 one and I find that this will not boot.i would like to make the windows 7 drive bootable but I am not sure how to do this.I have tried removing all the HD's apart from the none booting windows 7 HD and putting in the Windows 7 disk and carrying out the option to repair start up (not sure exactly what this was called) several times but this does not make any difference. It just prompts me to restart the machine and boots again from the DVD.
