i have a dell computer with windows 7. i put in memory stick from my camera to up load phot's as i have before. but this time it said the files have been damaged and need fixing which it recommended. so i fixed them it also said it was going to move them somewhere else but i can't remember where.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using Illustrator CS5 with a number of documents open when I had to leave my office to deal with a screaming daughter. I was then a little distracted before I managed to get back to my laptop. To my horror my laptop had installed some updates and automatically restarted. And you guessed it my files were gone. I know I know I should have been periodically saving them as I worked on them and stupidly enough I had with one but not the others.I quickly checked the recycling bin to see if a back copy was there as I had heard that this is sometimes the case. I did find one document that was modified at the correct time and date but with some random name. I tried restoring it to find out what it was and now have no idea where it has been restored to.

But now that I want to go back to default, I cannot get get my superbar back. There was only one .exe in the HSB folder and I clicked that and nothing happened. View 4 Replies View RelatedI had Windows 7 and Xubuntu set up in dual boot by EasyBCD, a well known utility.Today the linux kernel has been updated and, after the following reboot, the choice of Xubuntu OS at the dual boot prompt didn't work.So I went through Windows, launched EasyBCD to fix things and:
- changed the order the entries (Win 7 up, first)
- selected Windows 7 as default OS
- removed Xubuntu entry
- added again Xubuntu entry through EasyBCD procedure
- saved (maybe I should have saved after each of the changes)
When I rebooted I've found that two identical Xubuntu entries, each pointing to the Linux OS, and no Win 7.I've tried to access Win 7 by Grub, but it points to the dual boot screen, so I'm at start point again.I don't have the Win 7 disk but the usual recovery partition. No backup. Going through the recovery partition gets me back to the dual boot screen..Is there any way to put it in order again? Could you suggestions work in this case?I know that, from Linux, I can install and overwrite MBR with free mbr.bin

After running all the most current Windows 7 updates, my Windows 7 laptop using Wi-Fi can no longer communicate with shared folders on my desktop XP PC that�s hardwired to my Netgear G router.My XP desktop can still access the folders on the Windows 7 laptop. Both PC�s can access the web. If I run System Restore to an older date everything work just fine.

Well, I couldn't find where to delete it and so I went to c:\Progra~2\common~1\system\msmapi\msncon32.dll and deleted that. I did a bad thing, didn't I? This morning my Personal Folder in Outlook Contacts, is gone.
How can I get it back?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to make it so I could see where my appdata folder was in my user folder and now my PC name folder that was in "users" is no longer there.My user folder had the name of my computer on it with a lock symbol. I entered that folder, found that appdata wasn't showing yet. So I right clicked on the empty space in window, selected properties and at the bottom checked the box "hidden" in the attributes section (thinking this would show the hidden folders), then I think I clicked okay. Some processing took place and then the processing stopped mid way and a message came up (I forget exactly what it said) it asked me to give administrator permission to do something. I then noticed the advanced button next to attritributes and thought maybe I was supposed to enable hidden folders in there, and that enabling hidden attributes may have been a mistake, so I cancelled out of the process midway at the point where I was asked for administrator permission. Now my PC-name user folder has disappeared.

The problem is I changed the folder permissions of C:Program Files and C:Program Files (x86) to Deny for all users. These included
Authenticated Users
System
Administrators
Users
I was logged in with an Administrator Account. Now the problem is I cannot access the above folders with any user. All my applications installed in those folders do not work.
I tried several solutions available on the net like changing ownership, using THE Administrator account, etc but to no avail and these folders are still locked.
Is there anyway I can access these files or shall I resort to the ultimate step i.e. re-install windows.
I am running windows 7 professional 64bit and I was wrongly advised to take ownership of my hard drive. I am not having any software issues per say, just most of my icons now are either blank or default windows icon. Everything opens on the correct programs and windows is running fine except it keeps trying to an update that will not apply when I shut down. I have searched the forums here and done the icon database thing etc., but now after much searching I have discovered that taking ownership somehow corrupted my install folder.
Its still there but obviously not complete because of the icon issue and I am led to believe that if I want to uninstall something I may encounter problems. I found a system restore explorer program ((link was taken out so the rest of my post made no sense.)) I tried to install it but it keeps saying it needs to be on the host hard drive to install even when I try and install on the default path. So, how do I undo the damage? Can I change permissions of the hard drive again? and if so what too? How do I retrieve my install folder prior to the mess up and put things right?
In Win XP I used to be able to right click a drive or a folder /directory and it would bring up a menu of options, one of which would be to search for files or folders. Now with Win 7 I have to move my mouse all the way top the top right corner to be able to search. This is a lot of time and effort. It tires me out and is boring (LOL). Is there a way to add the search function back to the right click menu? I also liked the way the prior search options /filters were shown below (ie, date and size)

So, I changed the owner of Documents and Settings from SYSTEM to Fasih(HP-PCHP) and this is me. Still I cant access. Also, I wanna revert the owner back to SYSTEM, just in case to prevent anything stupid. So I retraced the steps and now.. I cant change the owner back to SYSTEM (strange).

I have local administrative permissions. I changed my temp folder environment variable to point to a different location, but this is the second time this has happened (first time was on different machine). "Cacls Temp returns Access is denied". I can't take ownership or anything of it.
