Fixing a pc Replaced hard drive in a Samsung laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. He has lost his original disk. Contacted Samsung and they were NO help at all. He has a key code buy no disk.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using Illustrator CS5 with a number of documents open when I had to leave my office to deal with a screaming daughter. I was then a little distracted before I managed to get back to my laptop. To my horror my laptop had installed some updates and automatically restarted. And you guessed it my files were gone. I know I know I should have been periodically saving them as I worked on them and stupidly enough I had with one but not the others.I quickly checked the recycling bin to see if a back copy was there as I had heard that this is sometimes the case. I did find one document that was modified at the correct time and date but with some random name. I tried restoring it to find out what it was and now have no idea where it has been restored to.

But now that I want to go back to default, I cannot get get my superbar back. There was only one .exe in the HSB folder and I clicked that and nothing happened. Also nothing happened when I uninstalled the program. I have already turned auto-hide off.

View 1 Replies View Relatedif you go to "my computer" you will see your hdd status has a blue bar that displays what data is used up and how much free data you have left.anyway i renamed by external hdd and the blue display bar is gone. i still can right click on on my external and at the bottom it shows up the status, but the blur bar is gone.i had another external and it happen, i jsut formatted and the blue status bar was there again.is there anyway to get the blue status bar without formatting my external hdd?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had Windows 7 and Xubuntu set up in dual boot by EasyBCD, a well known utility.Today the linux kernel has been updated and, after the following reboot, the choice of Xubuntu OS at the dual boot prompt didn't work.So I went through Windows, launched EasyBCD to fix things and:
- changed the order the entries (Win 7 up, first)
- selected Windows 7 as default OS
- removed Xubuntu entry
- added again Xubuntu entry through EasyBCD procedure
- saved (maybe I should have saved after each of the changes)
When I rebooted I've found that two identical Xubuntu entries, each pointing to the Linux OS, and no Win 7.I've tried to access Win 7 by Grub, but it points to the dual boot screen, so I'm at start point again.I don't have the Win 7 disk but the usual recovery partition. No backup. Going through the recovery partition gets me back to the dual boot screen..Is there any way to put it in order again? Could you suggestions work in this case?I know that, from Linux, I can install and overwrite MBR with free mbr.bin

But I'm not sure it will give me back Windows 7.
I have a 120Gb Vertex III SSD disk on which I had 56 Gb free space space left untill the beginning of this week. Now, suddenly I seem to have lost 6 Gb. of space, without having installed any new programs. I can't make use of system recovery as on advice this item has been switched off from the beginning. What could be the matter and what can I do to recover the lost space? Are there any programs that would be advisable to transfer to my WD harddisk?

I didnt have the battery in when i tried to do the restore and unfortunately half way through the charger came out and switched the laptop off. i turned it back on and it says i had to insert my windows disc which i dont have. it wont let me do anything else now. ive tried downloading windows to disc but when it gets back to the restore page it says i need to have the windows installation disc and wont let me restore from an earlier time as these have all been erased. its a dell inspiron n5030, with windows 7.

I was in the middle of creating a brand-new VHD container for my Windows 7 installation when I mistakenly entered the incorrect VHD file size of 200 GB instead of 20 GB. Seeing how I didn't have time left since I was late for an appointment, I dediced to just shut off the machine in the middle of the VHD creation (200 GB). I learned from this mistake because thats 200 Whole GB of data I lost to use as "Free space".Now, when I came back, I found my HDD reading only 285 GB of free space is available. I have a 1 TB drive (real value= 931 GB) that has 443 GB of space taken already by files. The VHD that I interrupted was 200 GB, but I interrupted the process.Now, I don't see the VHD file AND it took all 200 GB of free space that I had. I still have the same amount of file usage of 443 GB (right-clicked the drive and saw used space) and it was indeed 443 GB. And, the weird part is, that it only showed that 285 GB was left.I tried everything from disk cleanup to chkdsk to Hidden files to no avail.Is there any way I can recover my lost free space due to my actions of shutting down PC during VHD creation?

There raises a flag that I have to make a Backup. I thought and read this is a well worked out function in Windows 7, let's try !
But as you expect and the reason why I'm here, there is a difficulty.
The function wants to backup 2 hard drives (C: and H:) and I can't uncheck H:. C: is my windows disk and H: is my disk where I keep movies and stuff . I don't want to backup H: . I only want to back up C:!
What I read on several places is that Windows 7 Automatically selects the drivers which contains System files (in the back up function he calls H: a system disk). In Disk Management it also says Disk H: System/Active/Primary Partition.
I am for sure I installed Windows 7 on C:. I didn't do anything on H:.
Also an other thing I found out is that MSE uses the biggest drive for downloading updates and installing the updates (use it as source). But I don't know if that is the reason it is called a system disk.
I want to make my backup this way, how can I only make a backup of C:
Had a power failure during a recovery of an Acronis backup on my C: drive. It seems it happened while Acronis just started loading the backup files? When I restarted the Samsung Laptop local drive C: did not appear in Explorer. Only drive D: and my DVD drive E: appeared (C an D are partitions on the same hard disk). The recovery software was on a hidden partition but when trying to use the Samsung Recovery facility it say Drive C: not found.After trying out suggestions found on the internet I only managed to screw everything up resulting in also loosing the D: drive containing my Acronis backup. The laptop did not start at all. I at last managed to get it going after installing Windows 7 again and I then sit with only C System Disk, D System reserved and E: DVD drive at that point.Foolishly I shrinked the system disk C and created a data disk. That disk is now Data Disk F. and not D as original.The Acronis backup containing all my files and data was on the original Data Disk D:I have used various free software to try and find that specific file. But they all search by drive and the missing file must be somewhere on the disk either as lost or wrong drive letter or something.

They gave some good advice, to create a back up disk(s) in case any issues arise. This means I will have to get a USB-operated external DVD drive. Yesterday, I just reinstall fresh windows 7. After I install the OS, I just realize that my recycle bin is empty. Before I installed windows 7, some of my deleted files on my other hard disk is there. But now, I could not find it anymore. After that, I tried to select show hidden folder, files, and drives and unsellect hide protected operating system files on folder options. I try to browse to one of my hard disk, which has the deleted files on recycle bin before, then I found it the recycle bin icon there as well (For instance, the path of the drive is: N:$RECYCLE.BIN). I tried to look at the properties, and I found that the missing size of the deleted files was on there. The problem is I cannot access it. When I tried to open the recycle bin, it just empty. I need some help with this. How do I retrieve the files again to the OS recycle bin, not the hard disk recycle bin? Is it possible to access it again? I really need those files back.
