I have a 120Gb Vertex III SSD disk on which I had 56 Gb free space space left untill the beginning of this week. Now, suddenly I seem to have lost 6 Gb. of space, without having installed any new programs. I can't make use of system recovery as on advice this item has been switched off from the beginning. What could be the matter and what can I do to recover the lost space? Are there any programs that would be advisable to transfer to my WD harddisk?

I've ran into a real pickle with my HDD free space. I was in the middle of creating a brand-new VHD container for my Windows 7 installation when I mistakenly entered the incorrect VHD file size of 200 GB instead of 20 GB. Seeing how I didn't have time left since I was late for an appointment, I dediced to just shut off the machine in the middle of the VHD creation (200 GB). I learned from this mistake because thats 200 Whole GB of data I lost to use as "Free space".Now, when I came back, I found my HDD reading only 285 GB of free space is available. I have a 1 TB drive (real value= 931 GB) that has 443 GB of space taken already by files. The VHD that I interrupted was 200 GB, but I interrupted the process. Now, I don't see the VHD file AND it took all 200 GB of free space that I had. I still have the same amount of file usage of 443 GB (right-clicked the drive and saw used space) and it was indeed 443 GB. And, the weird part is, that it only showed that 285 GB was left.I tried everything from disk cleanup to chkdsk to Hidden files to no avail. Is there any way I can recover my lost free space due to my actions of shutting down PC during VHD creation?

I have my laptop partitioned into 2 drives. One for system and one for everything else.On my system drive i have 60Gb and the D drive is 300ish. I have started to get the "Low resources" message on the C drive. I have looked around everywhere for the 60gb's and it gone. Vanished into thin air.I navigate to C:users and check the properties. it says there is 35gigs being used. Inside there userskcameron - thats me - it says used 34gigs.When i check through all of the libary folders inside i cannot find more then a few megs of stuff. so 34gigs is being used, but i cannot find it.anyone have any ideas, or tools i could use to check this out? Its to the point where i cannot open many things without the system getting angry. I could always re-format, but other then this problem everything else is find.

So I bought a windows 7 netbook a few months ago, and within the first couple of weeks it caught a big virus and almost nothing in the computer was working anymore. So I panicked and since this was the only computer I had, I downloaded a copy of linux, put it on a bootable USB and installed Linux over windows 7. Then eventually I made another bootable USB for windows 7, and I put it in and it only showed one hard disk where it was possible to install windows, and it was the C drive with only 97 gigs of memory (the computer actually has 250 gigs). So I installed windows over linux and now Im wondering where is the rest of my hard drive?

I am using windows 7 pro. I have a 320 gig hard drive and within a 2 hour period, the available hard drive space went from 156 gigs to 53 gigs without me doing anything. I lost 100 gigs! After searching through all the files, it appears that there is 100 gigs worth of space that is not actually being used. i have done some searching and it appears that this is a windows 7 problem with no real resolution. I have emptied my recycling bin and i don't have any restore points or backups.

I have a solid state 80gb drive that I try to keep to a minimum. When I first built my computer (about 8 months ago), I easily had 40 gigs free.I haven't installed anything of significant size since, but my drive is slowly becoming full and I don't know why! Now I'm at the point where it's almost completely full.

Last night I noticed it had turned the bar to red, and said I had only 12 GB left of 135 GB. Im not into video, music, games or anything else I know of that would use that much space. I surf the web, and keep some scanned and some text documents. A few months ago I carefully installed Windows 7, instead of Vista which my PC came with. No problems. I just now deleted the old Windows stuff, and that freed up 47 GB, so thats good. I suspect that my hard drive was partitioned during that installation of Windows 7, and I dont know that that is necessary. Can that be undone?

Something on my hard drive is eating up the space even though I un-install applications and then it shows lots of space, but in a few moments that space is gone.
I have run Malwarebytes and deleted a lot of my files that is suspected of Virus/Spyware, yet the same thing happens repeatedly.
What software can I use to ensure I get rid of this 'thing' that is eating away or growing on my hard disk?

My hard disk space is decreasing rapidly, about 150mb/sec. When I restart my PC it resets back to normal and starts decreasing again. Once it reaches zero, I can work any programs and browse the internet. It will happen in about 10-15 minutes again, maybe less. What do I do?

recently i made a few videos with fraps that took up around 110 gigs of space, so i decided to compress all that and upload to Internet, the amount of space the videos are taking up are now down to 70, but my free disk space hasn't increased, in fact it's decreasing as if i never deleted the videos, it isn't decreasing on it's own only if i make files, so basically it'll take up space and it just stays that way for some reason.i've looked around the internet for a solution, i have tried:disabling automatic backup, that didn't do anything. scanned my computer with malwarebytes to make sure it isn't some worm, nothing found. used disk cleanup, cleared up 900 mb but the free space still didn't change. used ccleaner, cleared up 500 mb but the free space still didn't change. used disk check, nothing bad was found. used windirstat, everything seems fine as it should be, but theres 100 gigs of <unknown>, and i have no freaking clue what it is. used spacesniffer, found absolutely nothing that would take up that much space,i would use defraggler, but it will take way too long so i'd use it when i have no other option, there's gotta be another way other than literally waiting over a day for defraggler to finish, and chances are that it wouldn't change anything as well meaning i would have wasted a bunch of time,

I just installed 7 today. I kind of figured it would be like reformatting xp where it just wipes the hard drive clean and you start from scratch. All of my folders are empty but my HD only has 20G of free space i don't know whats taking it all up?
I was counting on having an almost empty HD when it was all installed. Sorry if this is a re-post.

This just popped up today and the only thing I can think that I had done since not seeing it was activated AHCI. As can be seen in the attached snip there is a very small partition to the left of the "SSD Common" logical partition. It is bounded by the same green box as the "SSD Common" partition. Hovering over it provides details of it being Free Space 1Mb in size. Right clicking on it provides a menu with everything greyed out except for HELP which simply opens the Disk Management user guide. Should add that both the "SSD General" & "SSD Trade" are Windows 7 bootable partitions with AHCI activated.

I Have a 200 GB hard drive. So far I had two partitions: 50GB System partition150GB additional partition for various dataI decided that I didn't want to keep the additional partition, so I used the Windows 7 installation disc to format and delete this partition. Then I extended the system partition and added the unallocated 150GB to it. Everything seemed fine and it looked like the system partition now had 200GB.Then I restarted and noticed that in My Computer it still says that my C: drive is 50GB large. I downloaded Partition Wizard Home edition, and it shows no unallocated space - just one system partition of 200GB!

Had a power failure during a recovery of an Acronis backup on my C: drive. It seems it happened while Acronis just started loading the backup files? When I restarted the Samsung Laptop local drive C: did not appear in Explorer. Only drive D: and my DVD drive E: appeared (C an D are partitions on the same hard disk). The recovery software was on a hidden partition but when trying to use the Samsung Recovery facility it say Drive C: not found. After trying out suggestions found on the internet I only managed to screw everything up resulting in also loosing the D: drive containing my Acronis backup. The laptop did not start at all. I at last managed to get it going after installing Windows 7 again and I then sit with only C System Disk, D System reserved and E: DVD drive at that point.Foolishly I shrinked the system disk C and created a data disk. That disk is now Data Disk F. and not D as original. The Acronis backup containing all my files and data was on the original Data Disk D:I have used various free software to try and find that specific file. But they all search by drive and the missing file must be somewhere on the disk either as lost or wrong drive letter or something.

Yesterday, I just reinstall fresh windows 7. After I install the OS, I just realize that my recycle bin is empty. Before I installed windows 7, some of my deleted files on my other hard disk is there. But now, I could not find it anymore. After that, I tried to select show hidden folder, files, and drives and unsellect hide protected operating system files on folder options. I try to browse to one of my hard disk, which has the deleted files on recycle bin before, then I found it the recycle bin icon there as well (For instance, the path of the drive is: N:$RECYCLE.BIN). I tried to look at the properties, and I found that the missing size of the deleted files was on there. The problem is I cannot access it. When I tried to open the recycle bin, it just empty. I need some help with this. How do I retrieve the files again to the OS recycle bin, not the hard disk recycle bin? Is it possible to access it again? I really need those files back.

I booted from my Windows 7 DVD as per usual, went through the steps and now I'm at the "Where do you want to install Windows?"screen.I had four partitions on my last install - A: Software, C: System Files, D: Data, and M: Mac (formatted as exFAT).The problem that I'm experiencing, and which I've never run into before, is that Windows has "greyed out" the options for Deleting existing partitions and Creating New partitions on unallocated space.Did some research and ended up using Command Prompt to delete my old volumes/partitions that way. So now I have one big piece of unallocated space, but Windows still won't let me Create New partitions on it. When the unallocated space is selected with the mouse, Windows gives me the following error:"Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition contains one or more dynamic volumes that are not supported for installation."

After deleting approx 25 restore points and I've deleted down to 2 currently (new ones) and the only way I could get them to go was with CCleaner, My disk now shows only 4.2 free of the setting of 10.6GB.
