Lost 100 Gigs Of Hard Space With No Explanation

I am using windows 7 pro. I have a 320 gig hard drive and within a 2 hour period, the available hard drive space went from 156 gigs to 53 gigs without me doing anything. I lost 100 gigs! After searching through all the files, it appears that there is 100 gigs worth of space that is not actually being used. i have done some searching and it appears that this is a windows 7 problem with no real resolution. I have emptied my recycling bin and i don't have any restore points or backups.

I have my laptop partitioned into 2 drives. One for system and one for everything else.On my system drive i have 60Gb and the D drive is 300ish. I have started to get the "Low resources" message on the C drive. I have looked around everywhere for the 60gb's and it gone. Vanished into thin air.I navigate to C:users and check the properties. it says there is 35gigs being used. Inside there userskcameron - thats me - it says used 34gigs.When i check through all of the libary folders inside i cannot find more then a few megs of stuff. so 34gigs is being used, but i cannot find it.anyone have any ideas, or tools i could use to check this out? Its to the point where i cannot open many things without the system getting angry. I could always re-format, but other then this problem everything else is find.

i have a problem with my laptop.70 gig of my hard space is missed . i know that it is in c:/user/sadra/appdata/local but when i check each subfolder or subfile in "local" i cant find such a huge space like that. i have read many posts about it but in fact all solutions were useless .

So I bought a windows 7 netbook a few months ago, and within the first couple of weeks it caught a big virus and almost nothing in the computer was working anymore.So I panicked and since this was the only computer I had, I downloaded a copy of linux, put it on a bootable USB and installed Linux over windows 7. Then eventually I made another bootable USB for windows 7, and I put it in and it only showed one hard disk where it was possible to install windows, and it was the C drive with only 97 gigs of memory (the computer actually has 250 gigs). So I installed windows over linux and now Im wondering where is the rest of my hard drive?

i bought a samsung 1000 gb hdd. model:HD103SJ (1000GB/7200rpm/32M) it was my primary hdd. when i bought it, had 938GB total space.I formatted n partitioned it couple times... last time when i broke all partition then it showed total 931.

I want to put an SSD in this computer for a boot drive. My plan was to install Windows and any important motherboard drivers on the SSD. What is the least amount of gigs I can get away with in an SSD for Windows 7 64 bit and mobo drivers. I was thinking either a 50 or 55 gig SSD. I think Windows 7 only uses 30 some gigs of memory and drivers should only use a couple gigs.

I'm having a little problem with my SSD. It's a Corsair Force 3 120GB. With the starting loss of 9GB it's a 111GB SSD. When I click computer from the start menu to view the available disk space it says 44GB. This dropped from 58GB to 44GB today without me installing/changing anything. Also, if I go into the SSD, and make sure view all hidden files and folders is on, if I add up all the space used it is 58GB, 111-58=53 so surely I should have 53GB left?

i have 1tb HDD which shows only 931gb i partitioned it to drive C (110gb) and drive D (821gb). now the problem is drive D i selected all the files & folders along with hidden and system files and checked the size it says 598gb which should leave me free space of 223gb but the drive says i only have 31gb of free space. i checked the drive with WinDirStat it says 591gb used. recover my huge wasted HDD space.
i am using windows 7 ultimate 646bit.

I have a 120Gb Vertex III SSD disk on which I had 56 Gb free space space left untill the beginning of this week. Now, suddenly I seem to have lost 6 Gb. of space, without having installed any new programs. I can't make use of system recovery as on advice this item has been switched off from the beginning. What could be the matter and what can I do to recover the lost space? Are there any programs that would be advisable to transfer to my WD harddisk?

I've ran into a real pickle with my HDD free space. I was in the middle of creating a brand-new VHD container for my Windows 7 installation when I mistakenly entered the incorrect VHD file size of 200 GB instead of 20 GB. Seeing how I didn't have time left since I was late for an appointment, I dediced to just shut off the machine in the middle of the VHD creation (200 GB). I learned from this mistake because thats 200 Whole GB of data I lost to use as "Free space".Now, when I came back, I found my HDD reading only 285 GB of free space is available. I have a 1 TB drive (real value= 931 GB) that has 443 GB of space taken already by files. The VHD that I interrupted was 200 GB, but I interrupted the process.Now, I don't see the VHD file AND it took all 200 GB of free space that I had. I still have the same amount of file usage of 443 GB (right-clicked the drive and saw used space) and it was indeed 443 GB. And, the weird part is, that it only showed that 285 GB was left.I tried everything from disk cleanup to chkdsk to Hidden files to no avail.Is there any way I can recover my lost free space due to my actions of shutting down PC during VHD creation?

For over a year I've been having occasional flurries of crashes, hangs and (rarely) BSODs. Months would go by with no problem, then dozens of crashes or hangs in a week. The event logs and rare dumps have not been helpful. People here said it sounded like hardware problem, but no diagnostics I ran could find a problem.I took it to a pc repair shop which could find no hardware problem (and of course it would not crash or hang for them). The suggested (as did people on this forum) that it probably was ZoneAlarm Internet Security. They installed the Kaspersky Internet Security product (for a fee, of course) and said that should fix the problems. 2 days later it froze 3 times and did automatic reboots 5 times.I took it back. It still wouldn't crash or hang for them. They said Windows probably needed to be reinstalled - that my update from Windows 7 Home to Pro corrupted something. Rather than mess up the installation again I asked them to do it (for a fee, of course).
During their attempts to reinstall Windows it started crashing for them. They succeeded on their 3rd attempt, ran some more tests, checked the configuration, and found problems with the ram. They said ram I had was incompatible with the mother board and buggy, but the problems could not be detected by the diagnostics. They also said they had to reinstall Windows a 4th time because the 3rd reinstallation was corrupted because of the bad ram.
1. If the ram was incompatible with the MB could I have run at all? Could it have caused intermittent problems?
2. I had OCZ DDR3 memory cards and a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R MB. Is this memory incompatible with the MB? I've recently heard that OCZ memory is not very high quality. Is that generally true?
3. Can bad ram (and crashes cause by it) corrupt Windows? I can see how the registry could get corrupted but would that take a reinstallation of Windows to fix?

I have just had re-install WIndows 7 (32bit)on my PC something that I've done once before with no problems. This time however there's a yellow triangle showing next to the PC icon in devices and printers.Going into properties then hardware it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" on Intel(R) 82801GB/GR (ICH7 Family) LPC Interface Controller - 27B8.I've got a disk with drivers on it and updated the PC with those but I still have this problem.

I have a DX58SO mobo from Intel with i7 processor. There are 4 channels for memory and 3 of them (all blue) are filled with 2GB DDDR3 DIMMS. (total 6 GB)[CODE]Do I have a problem or not? Why is this telling me I only have a "total" of 2047 MB, but 6144 MB installed? Does Win 7 use all channels in parallel, 2GB at a time? Or do I have 6GB x64 bits wide?My Microsoft performance index is low (5.5) on the memory test, the only bottleneck in my system.

I have a recent Win764 build less than 6 months old, seems to have a virus or something that is making the hard drive space dissapear. The accual contents are 36GB out of 300GB. The computer will display that there is only 3.75GB left out of 300GB. I ran windirstat and tree and it gives me the correct allocation of data. The data matches what is supposed to be on this drive, there is no random file that is taking up 275GB. Leads me to believe that its a Virus, and cannot find to much on the subject

I have a 3ghz Phemon, 8gb ram and a 60gb SSD drive.
After installing Win 7 x64 my install was a bloated 20gb. This includes 8gb in the c:windows emp folder that I can't delete. After installing a few apps and games, I have 12gb free. I cannot account for 15gb of "missing space"
system restore is off.
any suggestions?

I have a solid state 80gb drive that I try to keep to a minimum. When I first built my computer (about 8 months ago), I easily had 40 gigs free.I haven't installed anything of significant size since, but my drive is slowly becoming full and I don't know why! Now I'm at the point where it's almost completely full.

Last night I noticed it had turned the bar to red, and said I had only 12 GB left of 135 GB. Im not into video, music, games or anything else I know of that would use that much space. I surf the web, and keep some scanned and some text documents. A few months ago I carefully installed Windows 7, instead of Vista which my PC came with. No problems. I just now deleted the old Windows stuff, and that freed up 47 GB, so thats good. I suspect that my hard drive was partitioned during that installation of Windows 7, and I dont know that that is necessary. Can that be undone?

I very recently purchased a new Desktop running Windows 7.Am Computer illeterate more or less!I have always been conscious of space on my Hard Drive and the most I used on my old PC was 60gb max.Used easy transfer (not that easy!) to get all my old data across, then started putting in programmes I used.One was Google Earth. Worked first task, then didn't so uninstalled, reinstalled - no luck, so finally uninstalled.HD usage upto now was an acceptable 40gb.One day, whilst PC was in standby, I saw something was active, so using Task Manager saw it was Google Earth??? Was NOT installed but the process was upto 25%?Stopped that but later saw my HD usage was around the 100gb mark!Done regedit and all that to see if Google Earth showed up but nothing.Did a Spy Bot scan and it came up with numerous entries -C:UsersAnge&GeoffsAppdataLocall.....Cannot find that but has all that space gone into a "black hole"?Apart from updating Windows 7, I have downloaded nothing to account for that massive HD space?

I have a SSD as my boot drive, but it is suddenly running out of space. I tried cleaning, disk defragment, disk cleanup, and check my computer for viruses and malware, but there were none. I turned on the feature of seeing every fine on the computer, and when i go into the C: drive and add up how much files i have, the total i get is 42 gig out of 51 gigs. But when i open "my computer", it says i only have 2 gigs of empty space out of 51 gigs.

I know this is not a 7 OS but I have a Toshiba laptop that one of my work colleagues has with XP on it. She is saving very hard for a new desktop (with 7) and needs this machine for the meantime.
Now the machine only has a 40GB HDD and I have been trying to empty it out but no amount of uninstalling programs seems to work. I have had to install IE8 (6 before) Comodo free and SP3 so I guess that is some of the problem?
I have removed nearly 300 malwares from the machine and really I wouldn't be doing this if she didn't need it. give me a few pointers as the disk is now just 1.35GB shy of full?

my computer is telling me that my spare harddrive has less memory than there should be. the hdd is an old 160gb drive, which in reality has 149gb. after filling up the drive with 70gb of backup, it shows that i have 35 gb left. so where did the other 45 gb go? i highlighted all the files with CRTL+A, but it still only showed 70gb.

Have an Asus K52F laptop with windows 7 premium 32bit. The C drive(hard drive) being the main drive where everything get saved to only has 75GB of space (it's formatted and won't let me change anything) whilst the Data (partition) drive has 206GB of space. I was wondering if it's possible to swap the amount of space between them or can i make the data drive a main save point like the C or should i try the recovery disks and see if a partition option appears???
The programs that came with the laptop takes up a third of the Hard disk space so adding pics, music and a few games uses the rest up very quickly. I moved all my music, pics and games to the data drive for a short period of time but the programs couldn't locate the data so i've now moved them to my external hard drive

I deleted my D:drive (50 G). I back up to a 500 G external hard drive. Is there a way to add the 59G to C:drive where I could use the space.
