I have a school report I've been working on for amonths now on my Mum's computer. I recently purchased my own, so I emailed the file from her computer onto mine and downloaded it onto my Office Word 2007. The file was uncompatible with my version of office (even though it was from the same disc we bought for my Mum's computer) so it was always saved to autosave. In order to upload it to the school it needs to be saved to the computer and not in autosave. So I tried to save it, and got a pop-up message that told me it was incompatible but I could still save it with no problems. (i don't remember the exact wording) So I went ahead and hit "yes". now the file is missing from the computer and no matter how much searching I do i can't find it. Any shortcuts or links to it that existed before don't exist anymore.
I installed Tuneup utilities software yesterday, it asked me to Optimize my systemBut today as i checked for my hidden folder in windows Drive (c) ,it had disappearedNow as to how i can restore that folder as it contained important data including photos, files, videos
how important the file timestamps are.Since copying my files from drives to drives I've noticed that these have been altered. I have some where the files have a modified time before a created time.I've lost my original created times. I've had some files that were created in 2004 now showing as created in 2012.
I've recently got a new machine and had copied my old PST file over. Whenever I go to open it I get "File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file C:Users*username*DocumentsOutlook Files*pst file name*"I created a test archive and was able to open that one (same location ) just fine.
I realize that this is not primarily a Windows7 problem, but it just bothered me to see one program stopping me from setting the file associations for another program. And I need to vent.I have been running both Libre Office (LO) and Open Office (OO) for months now, not a heavy user, just trying to keep both going while I figure which one I liked best. These apps share file extensions, and are very file compatible, and I had always been able to open the same document in either. Both families of programs pinned to the Start Menu had, for months, contained file history of many documents, some documents showing as history in both app-families, and able to be opened in either LO or OO. Yesterday, I upgraded Open Office. First thing I noticed, the LO apps pinned to the start menu had their document history icons changed to OO icons. Sure enough, these documents, in the history list of a pinned LO app, open in OO. Rats, I think--I guess I will have to re-assign the extensions to LO. No can do! I have never had this happen before, but I now when I use "Open With" on a file with the shared extensions, (.ods, .odt,...) then "Choose Default Programs...", then "browse" to set a new default, the LO app does not stick. So far, I am unable to set the file association to any of the LO apps.
I have occasionally seen software, usually pretty sleazy and undesirable software, that would hijack file associations, would take-over as much of the computer as possible. But at worst, they just made it inconvenient so that the user would have to go back and re-assign the desired apps. But I did not expect to see a professionally done app like Open Office to do this sort of thing without asking. And for sure, I did not expect to have an application block my ability to re-assign file extensions to to another app.
I cannot remember purchasing MS 2010, but I must have when I bought the PC (there isn't a sticker for it on the machine). In either case I am without the disc or the key.I'm unsure what to do next - can I simply buy another 'key' to activate it? Do I need to buy the disk as well (which is far more expensive). I'm also curious as to how they reinstalled it (bit of a moot point though).
I had to re install Windows today, but I seemed to have lost my Key and Disk for Office 2007 (I have the program files in a backup if that will help at all). Basically: am i screwed? My school sells Office 2010 for 20$ (or so I hear), but I have no money and it would be great if I didn't have to fork out cash for new Office software when I already spent over 100$ on it.
When ever I start a Microsoft Office 2010 application I always get an error. It's Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student.
Excel- "Not enough memory to start Excel. Please close other applications and try again" Word- Crashes as soon as I start it OneNote- "OneNote cannot start because the Microsoft Office installation is missing the required files. Run Office setup again to repair the installation" PowerPoint- Splash screen flashes and nothing else happens
I have also tried going to install and clicking repair but it still doesn't work.

I'm not sure what's going on so I'll quickly describe what I've been experiencing. First off, this a three month old computer. I don't use any P2P applications. I'm good at not clicking false links, etc. I'm up to date with Microsoft Updates and all of my software is up to date as well. I ran a virus scan and it came back completely clean. Sunday afternoon, I left my computer up with a bunch of windows open in Google Chrome. Everything was fine. I came back and no web pages would load. I disconnected my ethernet cable and plugged it back in. Everything was fine for a little while. Then everything started getting choppy. Programs were taking forever to open and once they did, the entire computer started lagging. For example, songs in iTunes would pause for about a half a second and jump right back in. It happened almost routinely, every 3-4 seconds. The mouse cursor was also jumping. I restarted and the same effects were observed. I can no longer open any MS Office products. This REALLY screws the computer up. I opened task manager and I can see Powerpoint, for example, running in the background and using about 100kb of memory. "End Process" does not even end the process. I tried using PSKill.exe to kill the process, but to no avail.
I have problem in uninstaling my microsoft office program from my pc. So... once during the uninstling process the pc went freeze and i reboot it ( i got mad lol ) then i've tried to uninstal it again and then the pc was restarted by hiself.
*notes , the folder where is my microsoft office is half empty/deleted during the uninstalation and cant be deleter manualy or IN Computer/Uninstal or change a program *I've instaled Microsoft Office 2010 Plus *I have the instalation pack [ Micr.Office 2010 plus] but it didn't instaled it and aprove to uninstal the mic.office program Completly.
I uninstalled it previously because the icons were missing. So trying to reinstall it I keep getting a rather unspecific error just saying "an error has occurred". screen shot : http://i55.tinypic.com/vwzypj.png, I really need this to do homework n stuff.
Trying to install Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student on a brand new computer, went through the process with no problems so when it finished it wanted me to restart, so I did and when it restarted absolutely nothing, no word, excel anything except the same installation startup software so I tried again and this time it came up with some starter version of word and excel...thats it, no proper programs just rubbish, no outlook, publisher or powerpoint. Decided to restart thinking it just a glitch and now all I've got is Onenote. Given up after 2 hours of being annoyed at every step trying to get it to work
