I have a problem about my laptop (Presario CQ40-416AU) when waking it up from sleep, I set a password for my login and I required the password when resuming from sleep but it shows password error everytime I tried to login.. what could be the problem?
About a month ago my pc started going to BSOD while trying to resume after being put to sleep. PC is 16 months old. I read the forums, etc and updated the ATI radeon display driver and the Realtek network driver but the problem persisted.I also rolled back the system using restore to before the problem began but no change. I then reinstalled windows 7 64bit using the OEM CD rom and installed all the MS updates - no change. Last week, it occurred to me that it might be a monitor hw issue so I swapped out the monitor with another I had. That seemed to solve it - for 4 days - now it's doing the same thing with the second monitor.
For the past month I have been randomly getting BSOD when my computer wakes up from sleep. My first crash was 25 days after install, and now it happens every 3-5 days. Usually just once, and I can never seem to replicate. But it happens only when the comp is waking up, never when in use. I have tried to induce it by sleep/wake repeatedly but it happens totally randomly.
I typically don't leave my computer on for prolonged periods so I can't say it wouldn't do this after being turned on for 3 days but I have yet to have a crash like that.
My system is overclocked/watercooled and had been running stable with Vista x64 since it was built in Jan 09. I installed Win 7X64 Ultimate 7100 on July 5 2009.
So, far I have tried:
Reinstalling chipset, and updating all USB pheripheral drivers.
Update video and sound drivers
Uninstalling all windows updates
Removed one 4870 and disabled crossfire
Full repair of windows (not clean install)
Overnight memtest 8 passes
Prime 95 multithread 9 hours with no failures
Last Night I tried:
Updating chipset again, bios, and raid firmware.
Disconnecting my UPS from the USB port.
I am at a loss for what is causing this. I've seen a few threads around with
ntoskrnl issues, but none that happen only on wake up. Tonight I plan to do some PSU testing.
Does anyone have any ideas about this, mini dump file is attached ?
Whenever I try to put my notebook in sleep mode everything works ok, also normally waking up the system.
But when I disconnect the power cord and restart the system, Windows tries to resume its state but suddenly stops with a black screen and a blinking cursor.
I have absolutely no problems with normal sleep and normal hibernate (shutdown -h).
For a short time hybrid sleep worked only when I put the system to sleep with the notebook FN keys, but not through the Win start menu.
Now it doesn't work at all. Maybe this was also just a coincidence.
I purchased am HP Mini 110 netbook three weeks ago to use in school while I leave my heavier and bigger laptop at home. It came with Windows 7 Starter, but I took the (bad) decision of installing an illegitimate copy of Windows 7 Home Premium because I found starter somewhat clunky.
I downloaded the ISO from a torrent and created a bootable USB. I just run the installer from Windows itself and the installation took about 45 minutes. After that I installed the drivers and everything went fine for a week. I also used the ''activator' that came with the torrent.
This Friday, as I resumed from sleep, the system froze as I put my password for a few seconds and soon after I got a BSOD and the computer shut off. As it rebooted I got a message saying that no OS is installed and that no HD is detected. I attempted to run some diagnostic tests through the BIOS but it tells me that not HD is detected. I even attempted to install Ubuntu and it doesn't detect a drive either.
I already talked to HP costumer service and they'll soon come to pick up the netbook to get it serviced, but meanwhile, I sent it to a technician to find out what is wrong with it. The news I got from him were that the HD was completely dead.
Previously, I had unplugged the HD to make sure the ribbon was not lose and plugged it again. Now, I am in this dilemma: Would my HP warranty void if they find out I installed a pirated OS which arguably caused the hardware to fail?
I am using Acer Travelmate 8204WLMi laptop running the latest RC build of Windows 7. The internet connection is lost on both LAN adapter and WLAN (3945ABG) adapter when laptop is restored from a 'sleep' mode. I have disabled 'Power Management' of each adapter via the Device Manager. I have updated to the latest set of updates.
Disabling and re-enabling LAN or WLAN adapter to restore connectivity does not work (as it does in Win-XP). I have tried to 'log off' and log back in but this does not work either. I have discovered that the only way to restore connectivity is to re-boot the laptop.
It would appear that there is an issue of the Windows 7 code to correctly manage the LAN/ WLAN adapters. Has anyone else come across this problem?
I cannot log in after recovering from sleep mode. I receive an 'Incorrect username or password error'. I confirmed I am using the correct username and password (CAPS is off). I found I am able to log in after selecting 'switch user' and then attempting to log in again, so I believe Windows is getting confused. The PC is on a domain so I cannot turn off the option for it to prompt for a password, and I do not wish to turn off the option for sleep mode in order to save power.
This week (possibly after an automatic upgrade), my Windows 7 PC changed its sleep behaviour. Previously, it would emerge from sleep mode without going to the login screen. As of ~4 days ago, it now does.I double-checked Power Options' Advanced Settings. For every power plan, "Require a password on wakeup" is still set to No
When I close the lid it doesn't shut off, keycommands are ignored and the screen remains black leading my to hit power switch I've had the issue since 06/2012
Since then it stopped and continued from 09/2012 Critical 24/06/2012 00:23:16 Kernel-Power 41 (63) Critical 17/09/2012 21:39:03 Kernel-Power 41 (63) Critical 18/09/2012 19:46:20 Kernel-Power 41 (63) Critical 18/09/2012 23:10:58 Kernel-Power 41 (63) Critical 22/09/2012 20:54:24 Kernel-Power 41 (63)

I've checked that my GPU and Intergrated card are up to date?
Is this possible? I have my hard drive on my laptop truecrypted. So when I wake it up from hibernate I have to enter my password at the bootmanager, and then a windows password when I log in, too much work. Especially when the bootmanager password is like 30 characters and the windows one is like 20. So is there a way to only ask for a password from sleep but not from hibernate?
I've set it to "no password" in all of the power plans. I also changed it on the main power settings screen, where it has "require password.." on the left. I click on that and select "no password" there as well. Screen saver is set to "none" I'm about to remove the password from my login account altogether. Is there something else that could be causing this behavior? Because I am at wit's end with this issue. The only band-aid I have is to run the Caffeine utility to prevent the system from sleeping.
I generally leave my PC on during the day but lately after an hour or so it will not wake up.I have tried varying the sleep time but it makes no difference.
When I try to set a password for new account, I always get "password does not meet the password policy requirements" error. Password Policy is disabled, of course.Prime suspect is HP ProtectTools Security Manager but I cannot remove it because uninstall throws Error 1001.My colleague has identical system (hardware + software) with the exception of not using HP ProtectTools (he probably removed it immediatelly after starting up his new system several m of this kind.
been watching that when the system wake up form hibernation, the LED that shows me the activity (I guess read/write..) of the hard disk is blinking, and keep doing that for several minutes (2- 6 minutes). The weird part is that the system is not going slow, when i open the task manager to see what is running, in processor usage the value is minimal, between 0 and 5%.In the process tab, the only thing using some CPU is one of the svchost.exe, it had an intermittent CPU usage of 0-3%, when i finished it, the LED stop blinking.
If I reboot my desktop goes thru the procedure but the monitor stays black - nothing, not even the safety screen and no cursor. There is an amber light on the monitor which goes green when it receives its wake up call but it remains amber. I have to switch the power off entirely before switching it on again, and rebooting and this time the screen works. I've run scandisk, I've gone thru scannow, I've installed the latest graphics card drivers. I've tried changing the power settings. Bear in mind that this set up and computer has worked perfectly for 2 years and as all the hardware is working I believe it to be a software issue.
See my sig for my system description. Windows 7 64 bit OS. ASUS P8P67 Pro B3 motherboard. i7 2600k CPU. Whenever I put my system to sleep or shut it down, and it comes back on on its own (for example, Vipre anti-virus turns the comp on at night to run virus scans), the system boots up just fine, but the keyboard, mouse and display don't do anything. I can't get a response. So I have to hold down the power button for 4-5 seconds to shut the system down and restart. Then everything works fine again. The mouse is a Logitech wireless (USB). The keyboard is Logitech wired (USB) gaming. The display is ASUS hooked up via HDMI to my video cards
A very minor question. I was wondering if it's possible to show the "Welcome Screen/Switch User" screen after the computer is woken up from screensaver or standby. I know it's really easy for a user to click on the "Switch User" button on the "lock page", but still I want to make it easy for my mom.
I own an HP dv6tqe-7000 and I have a pretty annoying problem. At random times the laptop won't go to sleep when I close the lid. The HP logo light stays lit even if I leave it alone for a couple of minutes. If I open it up the screen is blank, and both the power and WiFi light are on. The mute volume LED is off even though I had left it on before. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button to reset it.
I have no idea what causes this. Sometimes the laptop takes a lot longer to sleep than usual as well, up to a minute. I don't think this was a problem when I first got it about 3 months ago. The problem has been apparent for about a month now.
I tried updating the drivers to both the dedicated and integrated GPU, but unfortunately it still showed the same result. I know I updated my BIOS awhile back, but I don't know if that's the problem. I also bought a Logitech USB mouse I bought 2 months ago where you are just supposed to leave in the USB receiver.
At times it will go to sleep within seconds. I wish it would do this all the time because since I'm on campus I always have to put my laptop back in my backpack.
This has happened several times during the last few days. My laptop goes to sleep by itself randomly while I am actively using it. The model is Dell XPS L502x.
Today, I installed Home Premium 32 bit (it's dual booting with Win 2K Pro) on a Dell Latitude C640. After much patience, googling and having a driver disc for this laptop, I finally finished the install. For a 2002 model laptop, it looks pretty good. The only known problem that I'm having is that it won't go into sleep mode. All of the other options are there except that. Windows 7 will install on almost anything there is, it looks like. Anyone have a suggestion for the sleep mode problem?
My laptop wakes up for no reason after I put it to sleep. I unplugged my USB things and it still doesn't solve. When I do powercfg -lastwake it gives me this:
Wake History [0] Wake Source Count - 1 Type: Fixed Feature Power Button
This does not have to do with an outdated driver(Most likely) It happened when I decided to decrease the brightness.
Hi new user here, my RTM copy used to go to standby and wake up fine but recently when I try to power it up the machine will appear to start up, but my screen, keyboard and mouse do not wake up, also my wifi light does not turn on either.
The only way to get on to my pc is to do a hard restart.

The report points to my wifi card being the source of the problem yet I have tried disabling it and the same occurs.
On my laptop, the drive is encrypted with TrueCrypt and I don't know whether it is better to have my PC set to sleep, hibernate or hybrid sleep when I close the lid. I kind of want the fastest, but most secure option though.
Also, in the TrueCrypt options menu it says Auto dismount when entering power saving mode. Is that sleep? And is dismounting when it encrypts it again?
I am attempting to setup Homegroup for first time on new computer, I was asked to set a password. The first pw was only 7 letters. It was rejected as requiring 8 letters. Attempted to re-enter new password and program states its the wrong password. When I go to the homegroup page there is no link to see and change password.
I'm using my laptop (ASUS G73JW) with external monitor. The OS is Windows 7 ultimate 64. I set to "Do nothing" when the lid is closed and "Never" sleep in power settings. It never goes to sleep even if I'm doing nothing with my laptop for a long time. But it goes to sleep in random time when I start to play video with media player, even if I keep doing somethng with mouse or keyboard. I tested with various other media players, but symptom is the same. I'm not sure if this is the same on other laptop models/vendors. It seems like a bug is in Windows kernel drivers or ASUS specific drivers.

Multiple times when ive put my laptop into sleep mode it has crashed when I turn it back on. It does not do it every time, just majority. After I have turned my laptop off normally and then turned it back on I get the windows has crashed screen, asking me if I would like to start my computer in safe mode or normal. I do not get a BSOD. The error message when i log back in says the files that describe the problem are: C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP.
