Asks For Password When Coming Out Of Sleep Mode?
Mar 24, 2011
I've set it to "no password" in all of the power plans. I also changed it on the main power settings screen, where it has "require password.." on the left. I click on that and select "no password" there as well. Screen saver is set to "none" I'm about to remove the password from my login account altogether. Is there something else that could be causing this behavior? Because I am at wit's end with this issue. The only band-aid I have is to run the Caffeine utility to prevent the system from sleeping.

I seem to be getting BSOD every time I come out of sleep mode with my new laptop (Asus G74SX-TH71). I put in an SSD did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional x64. I have disabled the bluetooth in device manager deliberately as I don't plan on using it.

Just built this computer last week and I've had problems when the computer goes to sleep. When I press a key or move the mouse, the computer apparently wakes up but the monitor is still black and the PC speaker is gives off a three beep pattern. After a cold reboot, the system/win7 does not restart, but rather resumes the task I was doing prior to the sleeping mode. One more thing, does cold rebooting affect ssd's the same way as normal hd's?

For the past several mornings, when clicking my mouse to wake my PC from sleep mode, my screen remains completely black. I can hear the PC start up, the fan running, etc. I can even hear the Windows log on sound when I punch in my password. All power lights are on, but the monitor refuses to display anything, not even a blinking cursor. My keyboard then becomes unresponsive and I'm unable to shut my PC down using the power button. I've had to hard reboot several times by manually switching my surge protector off and on. After getting the expected message that Windows didn't shut down properly, my system then starts up as usual. I have Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). My processor is an AMD Athlon II X4 630 and I have 6 GB of RAM. Both my PC and monitor are brand new.

Just recently was doing some additional overclocking on my PC and had this happening just now. Whenever I resume my session out of sleep mode by hitting either a key on my keyboard or mouse, my PC fires up, but the display doesn't come back, almost as if I had pulled out the cable from the monitor. The PC is running normally as this is going on, and the only way for me to get my display back is to do a hard reset.

Windows 7 Startup folder allows you to open a file when starting the computer, but I seldom shut off my computer. Instead, I would like a file to open every time I put in the password to bring it out of sleep mode. Is that possible?

When my PC goes into sleep mode (typically while not logged in), I am asked for my password, I enter it, I briefly get the bright blue screen saying Welcome - and then boom, back to the login screen and I have to enter my password again. And I don't think it's a matter of first login wakes me from sleep; second gets me to my desktop.I've started just pressing enter on the password screen the first time, which of course tells me that there's a password error. Then I'll enter my password and I'm in - after just one successful password entry. If it's some kind of bios-specific thing, my MB is a Gigabyte, with the specifics shown in my HW profile. Why is Windows 7 asking me to enter my password twice to get to my desktop from sleep mode?

I cannot log in after recovering from sleep mode. I receive an 'Incorrect username or password error'. I confirmed I am using the correct username and password (CAPS is off). I found I am able to log in after selecting 'switch user' and then attempting to log in again, so I believe Windows is getting confused. The PC is on a domain so I cannot turn off the option for it to prompt for a password, and I do not wish to turn off the option for sleep mode in order to save power.

Windows 7 Professional is asking for a password. It's a new laptop. After transfering all my personal files from my old machine, I turned it off. When tried to start it again, it asked me for the password. I didn't set a password because this laptop is at home and for my personal use only. The files that I transferred where in word and excel.

I'm trying to connect my Desktop and my laptop but my homegroup keeps asking for a user/password even though password protected sharing is turned off.
Funny thing is that I can connect from my desktop TO my laptop but not the other way around. I've read and tried everything I can.

I have two Win 7 64bit computers, one Home Premium the other Professional, and seemingly at random when trying to access one or the other over the network it will ask for a username/password. Sometimes it won't ask for one at all, and I'll be able to see shares without problem, but I can't replicate when this does/doesn't happen. I've read as many threads as I can find on this and other forums, but still no luck.I have no 3rd party firewall and I've disabled Windows Firewall on both computers.I've disabled anti virus software (MSE only) on both computers. In advanced sharing, I've turned password protected sharing off (as well as tried almost every other combination of settings on this page)I've verified that both computers are in the same workgroup, and I am NOT using homegroup sharing.I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers for each network adapter.I've tried disabling IPv6 I've tried looking through the event viewer for any errors.I've tried 3 different routers?

I recently installed Windows 7 on my other computer, and I thought everything was going well. Well then I restarted after the installation only to find that it hangs at "Verifying DMI Pool Data". Then, when I restart again and select boot menu, it asks for a password, which I don't have because I didn't set one yet. Could anyone help me on this issue?

I'm trying to share a folder on my computer (N:TV, where N is an internal hard disk) on my local area network. Two media centers connect to this folder. Until this week, they connected just fine using no username or password. Suddenly, they want to know a password -- and even entering my Windows credentials (my user account being the only one on the machine), access is denied.
I've selected the folder I want to share, and viewed its properties. It's shared with Everyone for reading. I can access the folder by opening \Mycomputer\TV in Explorer.Network discovery is turned off. File and printer sharing is turned on. Password protected sharing is turned off. All three machines are in the same workgroup.

I've setup my father's notebook (Win 7 32Bit) to connect via WLAN to the router. Another notebook is already running on that router (did not tried it parallel at the same time yet).
I've setup SSID (I've made it visible at the router for the initial connection), WPA2 & TKIP incl. password. Router allows additional WLAN devices, IP/DNS etc. should be set by the router.
Automatic connection does not connect to the router. Manual connection seems to work, but shortly after "connecting" I'll get a message to input user and password. I have not seen such a screen in conjunction with WLAN connection before (and I've set-up several devices at different routers). I've tried user and password of the user logged into windows, but this did not work.

I have 2 admin accounts on my PC. When I try to install a software from my 2nd admin account, it asks me for the password of the 1st admin account. But when I go to install the software in my 1st admin account, it doesn't ask for a password. My 2nd admin account was initially a normal user account, but because it kept on asking for a password each time I wanted to install a software, I upgraded it to an admin account. Yet it still asks for a password!

I've been having problems with random BSOD's when i'm coming out of sleep mode on my laptop. Most of the time I can bring the computer out of sleep with no issues but every month or so it will crash with a BSOD within 5 seconds of waking up. I can't seem to reproduce the issue, it just happens at random. I attached two dmp files that may be relevant to the issue as well as screenshots from CPUz and the HTML report from RAMMon.

A user of mine is telling me she gets a BSoD often when she wakes up her laptop from sleep, or if she tries to undock it. My free tools for analyzing the dump file aren't giving me anything useful, so I figured I'd post it here in case someone with better tools would give it a shot.

I built this Windows 7 machine last year on an msi p55-gd80 motherboard with an i5-750 cpu. It would sleep fine and come out of sleep fine. Then I upgraded to a gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 motherboard with an i7-2600k cpu. In doing the upgrade, all I did was boot the new hardware using the old hard drive, and then ran the new motherboard install dvd. Everything worked from the get go just as it had on the old machine, with one exception. Now, when coming out of sleep, I usually get a bsod. I assume this is driver related, but am not sure how to proceed as device manager looks fine and apart from coming out of sleep, the machine is perfect.

I have installed Outlook 2007 on a 2 year old HP slimline with Win7. The computer broke down and constantly was shutting itself off. We had 1 more month in warrantee. Hp took 2 attempts at sending people with different parts and finally fixed that problem (supposedly). Regardless I cannot install Outlook without constantly entering the password in order to send & to receive. I set up the commands the way mindspring.com ( which is under earthlink.net) says to do and even used to ports they say to use for smtp. I followed all their intructions to no avail. I even reinstalled it and no luck either. I can get my mail but I shouldn't be bothered with this. I read a lot about it and did the registry changes everyone reccomends.

Is this possible? I have my hard drive on my laptop truecrypted. So when I wake it up from hibernate I have to enter my password at the bootmanager, and then a windows password when I log in, too much work. Especially when the bootmanager password is like 30 characters and the windows one is like 20. So is there a way to only ask for a password from sleep but not from hibernate?
