BSoD When Coming Out Of Sleep Or Unlocking?
Sep 27, 2012
A user of mine is telling me she gets a BSoD often when she wakes up her laptop from sleep, or if she tries to undock it. My free tools for analyzing the dump file aren't giving me anything useful, so I figured I'd post it here in case someone with better tools would give it a shot.

I seem to be getting BSOD every time I come out of sleep mode with my new laptop (Asus G74SX-TH71). I put in an SSD did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional x64. I have disabled the bluetooth in device manager deliberately as I don't plan on using it.

I built this Windows 7 machine last year on an msi p55-gd80 motherboard with an i5-750 cpu. It would sleep fine and come out of sleep fine. Then I upgraded to a gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 motherboard with an i7-2600k cpu. In doing the upgrade, all I did was boot the new hardware using the old hard drive, and then ran the new motherboard install dvd. Everything worked from the get go just as it had on the old machine, with one exception. Now, when coming out of sleep, I usually get a bsod. I assume this is driver related, but am not sure how to proceed as device manager looks fine and apart from coming out of sleep, the machine is perfect.

I've been having problems with random BSOD's when i'm coming out of sleep mode on my laptop. Most of the time I can bring the computer out of sleep with no issues but every month or so it will crash with a BSOD within 5 seconds of waking up. I can't seem to reproduce the issue, it just happens at random. I attached two dmp files that may be relevant to the issue as well as screenshots from CPUz and the HTML report from RAMMon.

Just built this computer last week and I've had problems when the computer goes to sleep. When I press a key or move the mouse, the computer apparently wakes up but the monitor is still black and the PC speaker is gives off a three beep pattern. After a cold reboot, the system/win7 does not restart, but rather resumes the task I was doing prior to the sleeping mode. One more thing, does cold rebooting affect ssd's the same way as normal hd's?

For the past several mornings, when clicking my mouse to wake my PC from sleep mode, my screen remains completely black. I can hear the PC start up, the fan running, etc. I can even hear the Windows log on sound when I punch in my password. All power lights are on, but the monitor refuses to display anything, not even a blinking cursor.My keyboard then becomes unresponsive and I'm unable to shut my PC down using the power button. I've had to hard reboot several times by manually switching my surge protector off and on. After getting the expected message that Windows didn't shut down properly, my system then starts up as usual. I have Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). My processor is an AMD Athlon II X4 630 and I have 6 GB of RAM. Both my PC and monitor are brand new.

I've set it to "no password" in all of the power plans. I also changed it on the main power settings screen, where it has "require password.." on the left. I click on that and select "no password" there as well. Screen saver is set to "none" I'm about to remove the password from my login account altogether. Is there something else that could be causing this behavior? Because I am at wit's end with this issue. The only band-aid I have is to run the Caffeine utility to prevent the system from sleeping.

Just recently was doing some additional overclocking on my PC and had this happening just now. Whenever I resume my session out of sleep mode by hitting either a key on my keyboard or mouse, my PC fires up, but the display doesn't come back, almost as if I had pulled out the cable from the monitor. The PC is running normally as this is going on, and the only way for me to get my display back is to do a hard reset.

Windows 7 Startup folder allows you to open a file when starting the computer, but I seldom shut off my computer. Instead, I would like a file to open every time I put in the password to bring it out of sleep mode. Is that possible?

When my PC goes into sleep mode (typically while not logged in), I am asked for my password, I enter it, I briefly get the bright blue screen saying Welcome - and then boom, back to the login screen and I have to enter my password again. And I don't think it's a matter of first login wakes me from sleep; second gets me to my desktop.I've started just pressing enter on the password screen the first time, which of course tells me that there's a password error.Then I'll enter my password and I'm in - after just one successful password entry.If it's some kind of bios-specific thing, my MB is a Gigabyte, with the specifics shown in my HW profile.Why is Windows 7 asking me to enter my password twice to get to my desktop from sleep mode?

Whenever I press the sleep button on my computer, or when I leave it idle and it goes to sleep by itself, I get a blue screen of death. I would really like to solve thiNow, this computer came with an AMD video card, but I uninstalled those drivers and took out the video card and installed a GTX 570 from EVGA. The drivers are up to date, so I am pretty sure the new hardware is installed correctly. Furthermore, it was not doing this for the first few months of having the video card installed. This is very recent, so I don't understand what it could be

The problem I have is: Normally ctrl-alt-del brings us to the login screen and we can login by password or swapping the finger. Randomly (not everytime) when my PC is locked or in sleep mode, it does not brings me to the login screen it remains blue (wondows theme) for ages and I have force poweroff my PC and restart it.

My taskbar buttons are set to never combine. Each instance of a program is separate. However, they seemed to be locked together when I want to move them. What's particularly annoying is that if I want instance A of this program to be on the left I can't move it if I already have another instance of the program open (instance B). They are locked in their left and right positions.
If I wish to move them around relative to different programs open in my taskbar that's fine. However, if I wish to move them among each other they're locked in place.
Is anyone aware of a way to disable this? I believe I was able to do this at some point on my laptop which also used windows 7.

We are using Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010 clients. There is one user that is having issues with categories. If she assigns categories to emails, and locks/unlocks her machine, the categories are no longer assigned to her emails.
We have tried:
-new machine- she needed a laptop anyway.
-deleted AD account and re created
-deleted and re created mailbox
I've tried installing Office 2010 SP1, updating BIOS and all drivers..

About a month ago my pc started going to BSOD while trying to resume after being put to sleep. PC is 16 months old. I read the forums, etc and updated the ATI radeon display driver and the Realtek network driver but the problem persisted.I also rolled back the system using restore to before the problem began but no change. I then reinstalled windows 7 64bit using the OEM CD rom and installed all the MS updates - no change. Last week, it occurred to me that it might be a monitor hw issue so I swapped out the monitor with another I had. That seemed to solve it - for 4 days - now it's doing the same thing with the second monitor.

It's my first time posting! I've been browsing this forum and many sites on google trying to find the solution to my problem, but I can't really understand what is going on, even when taking a look at the dump file. I ran memtest, did all the usual things, but no sign of source of error to pin point. Every single time I put my laptop to sleep and keep it like that for longer amount of time (I think it's about 20 minutes) I can't get my laptop back from sleep in a normal fashion. What I mean is, that the screen never turns back off, stays completely black, my external monitor doesn't turn on either, just goes to idle mode. After reboot I get a message that there was a blue screen error and I can try to look for solution online. I read that my SSD HDD might be the cause of it, but after updating the firmware the problem persisted and after looking at my memory dumps, I found out that DirectX kernel is causing the problems, but updating it didn't yield any results, the problem persists, so perhaps I am missing something in the dumps that aren't that obvious to spot.My RAM aren't stock that came with computer, both chips 4GB each are aftermarket ones, but I have no issues with anything when using the computer except when it is waking up and MEMTEST didn't throw me any errors after an overnight pass.

CPU = Intel i7-860
MOBO = Gigabyte ga-p55a-ud4p
RAM = G.Skill 4x4gb 1333mhz
PSU = Corsair TX 650 watts
GPU = Nvidia GTX 480
HDD 1 = W.Digital 7200 rpm (1 TB)
HDD 2 = *NEW* SSD Samsung 840 (256 GB)
The new SSD is my boot drive with a legit Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I have the repair discs also if necessary.Problem = Many, but not all, of my wakes from sleep result in a blue screen of death. (I have no other BSODs)Also, this never happened using my old HDD.Two recent BSODs with different error codes = [URL]I have installed the MOBO CD drivers and the latest NVIDIA GPU drivers and latest SSD firmware (before OS install).Are there any other drivers I might have missed?SFC /SCANNOW detects no integrity violations.CHKDSK on both the SSD and HDD detects no problems.Windows Memory Diagnostic detects no problems.
