Homegroup Asks For User Name/password?

Jun 27, 2011

I'm trying to connect my Desktop and my laptop but my homegroup keeps asking for a user/password even though password protected sharing is turned off.

Funny thing is that I can connect from my desktop TO my laptop but not the other way around. I've read and tried everything I can.

WLAN Network Connection Asks For User And Password?

Nov 28, 2011

I've setup my father's notebook (Win 7 32Bit) to connect via WLAN to the router. Another notebook is already running on that router (did not tried it parallel at the same time yet).

I've setup SSID (I've made it visible at the router for the initial connection), WPA2 & TKIP incl. password. Router allows additional WLAN devices, IP/DNS etc. should be set by the router.

Automatic connection does not connect to the router. Manual connection seems to work, but shortly after "connecting" I'll get a message to input user and password. I have not seen such a screen in conjunction with WLAN connection before (and I've set-up several devices at different routers). I've tried user and password of the user logged into windows, but this did not work.

File Sharing Sometimes Asks For Password

Jul 28, 2012

I have two Win 7 64bit computers, one Home Premium the other Professional, and seemingly at random when trying to access one or the other over the network it will ask for a username/password. Sometimes it won't ask for one at all, and I'll be able to see shares without problem, but I can't replicate when this does/doesn't happen. I've read as many threads as I can find on this and other forums, but still no luck.I have no 3rd party firewall and I've disabled Windows Firewall on both computers.I've disabled anti virus software (MSE only) on both computers. In advanced sharing, I've turned password protected sharing off (as well as tried almost every other combination of settings on this page)I've verified that both computers are in the same workgroup, and I am NOT using homegroup sharing.I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers for each network adapter.I've tried disabling IPv6 I've tried looking through the event viewer for any errors.I've tried 3 different routers?

Asks For Password When Coming Out Of Sleep Mode?

Mar 24, 2011

I've set it to "no password" in all of the power plans. I also changed it on the main power settings screen, where it has "require password.." on the left. I click on that and select "no password" there as well. Screen saver is set to "none" I'm about to remove the password from my login account altogether. Is there something else that could be causing this behavior? Because I am at wit's end with this issue. The only band-aid I have is to run the Caffeine utility to prevent the system from sleeping.

Shared Folder Asks For Password (Turned Off) In Same WorkGroup

Jun 25, 2010

I'm trying to share a folder on my computer (N:TV, where N is an internal hard disk) on my local area network. Two media centers connect to this folder. Until this week, they connected just fine using no username or password. Suddenly, they want to know a password -- and even entering my Windows credentials (my user account being the only one on the machine), access is denied.

I've selected the folder I want to share, and viewed its properties. It's shared with Everyone for reading. I can access the folder by opening \Mycomputer\TV in Explorer.Network discovery is turned off. File and printer sharing is turned on. Password protected sharing is turned off. All three machines are in the same workgroup.

But when I go to install the software in my 1st admin account, it doesn't ask for a password. My 2nd admin account was initially a normal user account, but because it kept on asking for a password each time I wanted to install a software, I upgraded it to an admin account. Yet it still asks for a password!

Cannot Create A Homegroup Because User KYLO Already Has One On Network

Feb 26, 2012

So I checked on my network, just recently, and I saw some strange names connected. I saw BOYKA, KYLO-PC, RADULOVIC-PC, and my computer. I was freaking out, so I went to the DHCP Reservation on my routers setup and checked the devices connected. It was just my devices. But I still changed the password, but I was kind of reassured of the fact that it was probably just a program that accesses the network. But I googled all the names and no kind of software came up that may use these names displayed on the network, nor anyone else having this problem. I am worried that a people are accessing my network. Also, no one around my house has any of those names. Also I cannot create a homegroup because the user KYLO already has one on the network.

What Is User Name And Password

I have a desktop and a laptop both running Windows 7 Ultimate x86. My desktop is being primarily used as a media server with external hard drives attached to it. I was able to share my external hard drives over the network and my laptop was able to detect them. Right now "password protected sharing" is turned off, but I want to turn it on so that no one except me can access that network. My question is, what is my user name and password? It asks me for my user name and password but I never set one up. Is there a way to find out what my user name and password is? And is there a way to change it so I can pick my own user name and password?

User Name & Password Is Incorrect

Jan 25, 2012

We bought as exdisplay PC & they told us it would be restored to factory settings. When i start up it immediately tells me user name & password is incorrect. I click okay & it wants me to log into kiosk. From there I have to switch user. I've looked in user accounts a dozen times - there is only on user account (admin) & it's in my name. So where or what is kiosk? I've done the whole "regedit" thing but I don't have a default folder under profiles.
