Deleted Videos Need Recovering After Reset To Factory Settings?
Nov 13, 2011My wife reset our old laptop to factory settings before we gave it away. She has now discovered that she has not transferred 6 months off videos from our daughters lives which was stored on the laptop. These were not backed up as I was away working. Is there any way we can recover these videos? The operating system was vista.

Aug 29, 2011Since about a month ago Chinese language started popping up in my typing languages. I have 1 English and two Bulgarian languages. And when I go through them with alt+shift about once or twice a week Chinese comes there as well. I have no idea what brought this. When I go to the Input Languages it's not there. So I have to add it, apply, and then remove it in order to make it disappear from my language bar.

Sep 23, 2012Now, just 3 days ago It started the BSOD issue.I realize that my GPU was the cause of this issue. When playing games or open 3d applications the temp goes 30C to 72C (In 15 seconds) then 82C - 85C constant (in about 30 seconds).Now I've been using MSI afterburner to check my temps and at fulload my GPU will be at 62-72C max temperature but now it's 10C even higher then before. No, I haven't fiddled with the voltage I set the GPU voltage to 1.037v which is the safest (been running this almost 8 months!). The GPU is the GTX 560ti.Is there a way to set the GPU on default settings or reset GPU settings in cmd or other professional way. I have uninstalled the drivers, uninstalling GPU, disabled GPU, disabled PCI-E slot and so on by using device manager and the issue still persist. Yes, I also have clean the GPU perfectly and still the temperature goes up to 82 seconds at 30seconds-45seconds. Yes, I have checked everything is set correctly and so on, I am a PC Tech.
Is the GPU damaged? Yes I have looked at this thread: Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try Mainly, I know its the GPU straight away, I tried checking old drivers, new drivers, another GPU overclocked software such as GPU tweak and EVGA Precision. I am thinking it's the GPU is damaged or the PCI-E is damaged (I have another PCI-E slot on my system and the issue still there). It might be the PCI-E frequency? but it's set to 100 which it meant to be, I just hope is software related because I don't have the money to buy a new card. Did the dump files help?

I'm pretty certain I know the cause, but I'd love it if the solution wasn't a complete uninstall/reinstall!When setting up Windows 7 I gave our location as France - primarily because that's where we live! One fairly rapid result was Windows 7 giving me a French keyboard, so I installed an English one, and got rid of the French.Another was some error messages in French, even though English is the selected language.But the real problem is in Excel. It won't recognise a number entered as 4.27 - it insists on the decimal point being a comma - 4,27 (as the French do, certainly with currency and probably with everything)

Dec 28, 2012I bought a Windows 8 laptop, ASUS Q500A, and reformatted it with Windows 7. I went into the BIOS and used "Restore Defaults" and now all Boot Option Priorities are deleted. Each time I boot the laptop, it automatically goes to BIOS (or UEFI). I tried inserting the Windows 7 disc so I can access Startup Repair or Command Prompt but it freezes before it could get anywhere even when I tried it with an external CD/DVD drive. I cannot get the laptop to boot to the hard drive or CD drive at all, how I can reset the boot option priorities so it will be boot to the hard drive again.

One of them is that my sound settings (volume, bass, surround sound, etc...) are being reset every reboot.
I'm using the Creative X-fi Xtreme Gamer sound card with the latest Windows 7 64-bit drivers from their site. I've disable UAC, messed around with permissions and nothing seems to work. I have to go into the audio settings every time I reset!
Desktop/settings Reset On Update?
Aug 8, 2011Under my USER file, I replaced the locations of all the main folders (Desktop, My Pictures, My Documents, etc) to A:UsersMEetc instead of being on C:UsersMEetc. This is something Windows 7 supports really obviously by letting you right-click on "My Documents," then go to "Location," and change it to another location.
However, upon auto-restarting from an update while I was asleep, it decided to "Prepare Desktop..." and then when it was fully booted, my entire user account was blank. There was a default theme, no shortcuts on desktop or start bar, all program history wiped from Start menu.
I restored the locations of everything in my User folder, but there are still problems. I can't drag files between folders -- I can CTRL+C then CTRL+V, but I can't actually just drag them. One of the programs in my task bar (Norton) won't open when I click it, only when I navigate through the start menu.
Also, after restarting once, the desktop loaded as completely black, with no images, and going to Personilize, I cannot choose ANY windows themes. It says "This theme cannot be applied to the desktop. Try clicking another theme." I can't get it to display any desktop images.
Lastly, I cannot change the default desktop items (My Computer, Network, Recycle Bin). No matter what I do, all of the icons are there and cannot be turned off.
Under "Previous Versions" on my C: drive, it will let me explore previous versions of the past two days, but it won't let me restore them entirely. I'd like to do this, given my whole computer is freaking out for unknown reasons. I'm doing a virus and spyware scan, but I don't think that's what went wrong. I don't want to reinstall right now

Aug 15, 2011The typical -go to control panel and keyboard language setting- instructions dont work on Home Premium 7 for some unknown reason. The OS seems to be in English, but the keyboard doesnt want to change to Spanish.
Recent reinstall from partition. Legit copy, came with the laptop. Was working before the reinstall OK. Iirc the default interface might have been showing spanish, which might explain why i didnt have this problem before in the keyboard.
I think I was given the option to choose language at reinstall, and that I chose English. But everyone else who-s had problems with interface language never complained about keyboard issues.

The folder icons have changed everywhere but on the desktop. The desktop shows the regular aero styled icons. Everywhere else the folder icons are some dumbed-down picture that looks low tech even for XP. Its bright yellow and has no 3D effects. To make it even more frustrating, it only does this when the view is set to details, list, or small icons, which are the only views I ever use. What button did I push and how can I fix this?

Jan 3, 2013over the last 7 days Ive been experiencing unforced shutdowns of my system.I checked the event log and its related to a critical event: Kernel Power, Event 41, Task category (63).I had a look on the web and their are loads of "fixes", but I havent come accross a thread that led to someone saying the prob was resolved.
1. Possible driver problem - No messing about: reformat SSD and HDD - reinstall Win 7 and basic software (mobo/gpu) -
2. Possible Mobo/GPU/PSU problem - reset mobo back to standard settings - run OCCT test to check CPU/PSU/GPU - No errors -
3. Alter power management plan so pc doesnt sleep/hibernate -
4. Set power plan to high performance
5. Change power management on new gaming keyboard , swap keyboard to make sure (paranoia)
6. Check no duplicate audio drivers.
7. ran Unigine Heaven to give the sys a shakedown.
Its quite frustrating because I cant narrow it down to hardware or software. On the 3/1/2013 it powered down (and restarted) with this error 10 times between 01:25am and 10:52am, however it had stayed stable prior to that and hadnt powered down since 15:16 on the 2/1. So u see it appears random (nothing is random in computing) with the time stamps and no pattern emerging prior to Error 41.
