Instant Local Drive Backup Software - Recommendations?
Aug 8, 2012
I am on Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit.i7 processor with 12 gb ram 10k rpm Sata 3 boot drive Graphic Designer using Photoshop and Illustrator, and a variety of other programs.I have used Memeo Backup Pro in the past for backing up my files INSTANTLY upon saving the file.... I liked that it did that. Not into waiting till the end of the day for a scheduled backup to run; I've lost too many files in the past due to corruption after working on them for an hour or less....I would lose a LOT of productivity if I got hosed after working on a complex Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop file if it crashed after working on it for even a half hour.I save often, and Memeo saves a backup to my predetermined destination drive instantly. HOWEVER.... Memeo is buggy as heck and it has screwed with programs and caused Windows 7 functionality problems....So... I am wanting to try another, similar backup program that might have better user reviews. Can you help? I tried a demo of Live Backups and it sucked... couldn't even get it to work after setting up the parameters ....
I'm running Windows 7 64x Home Premium on a Toshiba Qosmio X505 laptop. I just got it back from the warranty repair center, where they replaced the hard drive and graphics fan & heatsink, and reloaded the factory windows version. Before I sent it out for repair, I used Windows Backup to create a backup of all my files on a Toshiba casio 500GB external USB drive (I had over 300 GB of files, so it was easier to use Windows Backup than drag and drop all the files, at least at the time). Now that I have the laptop back, I'm having trouble restoring my files. When I go to Control Panel-> Backup & Restore, a message appears in the restore section, saying "Windows could not find a backup for this computer." I've tried reconnecting the drive as well as restarting my computer, but to no avail. I can see and explore the files in My Computer, so I know the hard drive is properly connected.
I'm trying to backup Windows 7 to an external HD that currently is used to backup mac.eed to do to make this happen? I'm sure I'll have to format the ext HD then backup the mac using a different file format, but am unsure just what I'll have to do or how to do it.
I was planning on going dual screen and I wanted a nice graphics card for gaming and visual design (I use Photoshop and CAD). I am thinking about getting two ASUS VW246H 24" (Newegg.com - 24-236) and I was considering the Radeon Sapphire HD 7870 (Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition OC 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card (11199-03-20G). Will I require two of these graphics cards? I was only planning on getting one.
In my current system I have a 2TB boot drive and five 2TB drives in a RAID5 setup.A friend of mine recently added an SSD drive to his system and is using it for the Windows swap file and as a scratch drive for video rendering. I was about to order one and do the same thing when I got to wondering if there would be a benefit from installing Windows on the SSD and just moving the "Program Files" and "Users" folders to the RAID so that the SSD is only used for the O.S.
I have 2 internal and 3 external HDD's that I want to monitor. I have lost HDD's in the past and it has been a terrific PAIN! and while I know that monitoring software wont prevent this altogether.
I recently was doing 'maintenance' on my network and during the process, decided to upgrade the firmware on my routers/APs. All went well except that my trusty old BEFSR41 didn't survive. I tried the known fixes, but no response. So, I'm asking for recommendations. I do have wireless covered with a WAP54G, but it may be time to update that as well.Features I want are good security (inbound and outbound MAC filtering, IP Range limiting, port limiting, etc.), speed and reliability. I'm not opposed to a wireless router with ethernet ports (at least 4), but I would like the ability to turn the wireless aspect off, since I don't use it that much (at the moment).I have several machines on site, connected to an 8 port gigabit switch, which was connected to the BEFSR41, which was connected to a cable modem. Netgear is not a preferred solution. At some point, I plan to connect my TV, if that is a consideration in choice. OK, I'm rambling now.
Why are SAN drives recognized as local drive while NAS drives aren't?I knew that SAN uses block level transfer to transfer data while NAS uses file level transfer. Does this has anything to do with why SAN drives and NAS drives are recognized differently by the computer?
my Netgear wireless card won't work. It won't work if I have more than 2 GBs of RAM. Which is stupid. I've already looked everywhere and the only answer I could get out of Netgear was "Sorry but we're working on an update". Screw them.Anyway, I'm looking to buy another one because I hate running a 30 ft ethernet cable through the house so I can get internet. I really don't want to get bummed again so if you guys have an recommendations that would work with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit WITH 16 GBs OF RAM (lol)
I have only about 100GB left on my mirrored RAID on my desktop and I am looking for a NAS. I have been looking at this Synology one and this Buffalo one. I like the Buffalo one because it comes with 12TB and depending on the drives may be cheaper.
I am looking for a small cloud based system that would allow the following activities:Finances (Buy Price, Sell Price, Profit etc..) Notes Section for people to share their thoughts Plus and other features that may be possible.I don't mind if it is hosted on a secure site or hosted on a server at someones home and made available to others (Would need making secure somehow).
Initially i had a local disk of C:, D:, E:, F:, Now i have only C: My local drives are missing.I dont Know how to fix it. When i tried to fix in desk management there also no local drives were present.
Before the problem i downloaded win2flash software for making bootable usb drive. After installing,in the middle of operation i got a blue screen then in the boot screen i got a message that BOOT MANAGER FAILED .I fixed that problem.
I have a big problem, I was using NetDrive to map my FTP Server to my computer for some time now. I was using Windows Vista 32-Bit, I just installed Windows 7 64-Bit. Now to a surprise I found out that NetDrive doesn't support 64-Bit Operating Systems as of this time. I have been searching no-stop for about 2 hours and haven't found much.
I found some posts that recommended another FREE program to use that is like NetDrive but they still doesn't support 64-Bit. I don't want to buy a $50.00 program like WebDrive for example. I have also tried to use windows explorer to connect to the FTP Server and doesn't seem to work well (mostly not at all). I don't know why?
So at this point I am asking everyone if someone knows of a FREE program or method that I can use to connect my FTP Server to a local drive on my computer?
My laptop has a local C drive with a capacity of 160Gb. It has a free space of 149Gb and is partitioned at 37.5Gb for Drive D. The Drive D (used for Backup) is full and I need to increase it's size. The operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 bit. Is this possible
Has anybody heard anything new on Instant Boot for Windows 7?A mate of mine was telling me about it tonight as he has it on his ASRock Motherboard and it takes his PC about 4- 5 seconds to boot to the Desktop. Is the ability to boot in such a short time a part of the BIOS or is it a small program that you install?
I have 3 partition C, D, n E. After i install win 7 ultimate 32 bit in C, my local drive D: don;t show in windows explorer. All i can see just C: and my E: but write as Local Disk D:

'installation directory must be on a local hard drive' Its not the msi as ive tested it on another computer. The msi is a plugin tool called t-splines by autodesk. Ive also tried older versions with the same error Things i've tried so far
sys restore safe mode right click - take ownership
I uninstalled 7zip which i already had, then reinstalled with the .msi from the website to test if it was all msi, however it actually worked I was looking around for other .msi install software just to test it but can't find any?
I noticed some slowdown immediately after startup on my laptop. I tried installing 3 OSes, all with the same results. After a couple of days, the computer will work for a couple of minutes, then DRASTIC SLOWDOWN that makes the computer unusuable. When I went to install each OS, even that was slow (I.E.) the install windows were slow to come up.. I suspect hard drive failure.
I have recently upgraded my laptop from XP to 7, only to find that my Linksys Instant wireless card is incompatible with this version of windows.I have tried to trouble shoot the problem using the instructions windows gave me, which included running the setup under windows xp compatibility, but the setup doesn't even run. An ethernet suffices for now but soon i'll be traveling and I'll need the wireless.
I'm trying to set up two way sync between some files on my laptop and a network drive so that changes made to either the copy on the network or on my laptop get propagated to each other. I've read the instructions for setting up an "offline file" sync, which is a one way sync. The instructions usually mention that it's possible to set up a two-way sync, but they never actually describe how to do it.
how the local drive mapping in Remote Desktop works. I use it because it's very convenient, but I'm concerned about the privacy of it, i.e. that other people might see this drive as well.
I need to be absolutely sure before I'm going to continue using a mapped drive.
I am working in an office and would like to know if there is some sort of instant messaging capability in Windows 7. We would like to be able to message other computers in our small (5 or 6 computer) network without having to get up and walk around or use a phone page (some people have headphones in). I seem to remember a feature in Windows 2000 that had some sort of messenger. Is this possible in Windows 7 or any good non-invasive program that would work? We don't really want to go the route of AIM.
