Installing Windows 7 Image To A Larger 3TB Drive?

May 20, 2012

Alright, I did a backup image in Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit from a 500GB drive. I then took that out and put in a new Barracuda 3TB sata3 drive. After it was done restoring the image I extended the volume and of course it only gave me 2TB of space. So after reading a bit I needed to use Seagates disc wizard to format it to accept and show 3TB (2.79 useable) space which I did by hooking it up as an extra drive in another computer. Now my question is when I do hook it up in the new computer and put the image on again the process wants to automatically format the drive and in doing so I am afraid I will end up with the same 2TB's of space after extending the volume again.

Acronis Image 2011 Restore To Larger HDD

Nov 28, 2011

I got 2 partitions and the 1st partition is bigger then the 2nd. So when I try to restore my backup OS from the smaller partition to the bigger one it does not load properly! My Os is windows 7 32bit.It loads and say preparing your desktop then the desktop is blue and no icons, nothing. Just blank! I restart and enter into safe mode and still nothing just a blue screen, where you can move the mouse and press alt-del to get task manger loader but that is it.I am wondering that it might be that you can restore your image by Acronis on drives that are bigger or smaller. You need to partition it.So is this the reason why windows will not load properly cause I am restoring to a bigger partition? I tried many times and failed. Ironically when I use the same size partition image it restores perfectly so not sure what is this?

System Drive Content Getting Larger?

Nov 3, 2010

A few weeks ago I noticed that my Aronis TI 2011 images were getting larger each day. So I logged the amount of used space on my C drive from Oct 24 to Nov 1. The used space grew from 45.5 GB to 59 Gb in that time. It used to be less than 40 Gb for the longest time. I have not installed anything that would account for this growth, especially a few GB each day. Have scanned with MSE and Mal software removal tool and have found nothing. What should I do? Is there a log somewhere I could see where his growth might be coming from?

Switch C Drive To A New Larger Drive?

Oct 25, 2011

So I have a 64GB SSD that is too full to do an iPhone update... decided to get a 128GB SSD.I have DriveImage XML, to copy a complete image of the C drive onto the new, larger drive. Now I have both drives plugged in, have initialized the new drive... But to create a 'simple volume' under disk management, I have to pick a drive letter. The issue is that I want the new drive to replace the C drive, but 'C' isn't available as an option. So, what do I do?Do I create a volume with, say, letter J? Then copy over the image... then unplug the old C drive and plug the J drive into the same cables? And then reassign the J drive as C? Or how can I boot onto the new drive?

Then I would need to reboot, before naming the New Apps disc as the new D:the effect of rebooting without any Apps disc at all.. and would everything work after renaming the new Disc back to D: and making a final reboot?

Setup.exe - Bad Image While Installing Windows 7

Aug 3, 2011

While I was installing an OEM 64-bit version of Windows 7 I got the following pop-up message during the "completing installation" step:

setup.exe - Bad image C:Windowssystem32sppc.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains a error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

I hit ok, and it popped up again... and again... etc. So finally I tried to cancel the Install via the standard red x routine. Upon which i received a message saying that installation cannot be cancelled at this point... blah blah"

So being stuck and unable to finish or cancel the installation, I went for the good old turn off the computer method. Then I started fresh reformatting the drive and all. I had to leave the location I was at unfortunately while it was at "extracting files 52%" We'll see what's showing when I arrive in the morning.

Now, the question(s):

What causes this message to appear? And obviously, how do I fix/prevent it?

If it's due to bad media, how do I get a replacement copy? (seeing as it's OEM and thus I am technically responsible for support as I am the system builder)

Finally, the disclaimer:

Yes, I do know the difference between OEM and Retail. Yes, I did legitimately purchase the installation media & key. Yes, I am reselling this system to an end user; it is NOT for personal use. No, I did not run the OPK prior to using this software; I did not see the point as in this particular case I am personally setting up the machine for the client (plugging it in, installing software, registering & activating that software as well as the OS, etc.) Yes, I did look on this forum, as well as others, including window's own, and all over "the Google" to no avail

Installing 1 Windows 7 Image To Multiple Computers?

I would use a boot time imaging software to simply load the image but I am concerned about the license key for each computer.Could I update the cloned license information with the license I copied from each computer beforehand? Either by getting it from the documentation that came with the computer or by using a software tool to extract the key from the Windows 7 install that was originally on the computer before I overwrite it with the clone image.

Using System Image To Replace 750GB Drive With S 500GB Drive?

My 750gb hard disk is failing on a HP laptop that came preloaded with Windows 7 home prem. I have a SMALLER excellent 500gb, 7200 rpm hard disk that I'd like to replace the failing hard disk with. I've read that my Windows 7 System Repair DVD will not restore my recent system image (on NAS) to a smaller partition. The C:partition on the failing drive is well over 600gb but can shrink to 300gb. QUESTION Can I restore a system image from my larger drive "as is". If not, and I shrink my C: partition (contain windows) ay 350GB will I be able to restore the system image to where windows will boot?I have an old copy of (7.0) partition magic that I used to resize partitions on XP machines Can this old 32 bit partition magic safely resize my C: partition. If so, and I create a new system image can I restore it to the new disk?

Creating A Windows 7 Image Of The C: Drive Only

Jun 18, 2011

I recently installed an SSD in my laptop and moved the HDD to the secondary drive (I have room for two). I did a few of the prescribed steps for optimal SSD usage (moved user profiles to HDD, moved temp directory and page file, etc). Initially I was able to image only my C drive (about 30GB required). This was when I could still dual boot to my original partition on the HDD.

I've since removed the old Windows 7 install from the HDD and made it a single partition. However, now when I try to make a drive image I'm unable to deselect my HDD when creating an image. I'm given no option except to create an image for both drives with a resulting size of 209GB. I'm already backing up my user data already and don't want to include it in the image.

When I view the disk manager my HDD (drive E) is Disk 0 and my SSD (drive C) is Disk 1. I've run bcdboot c:windows /s c: to ensure I have the boot files on my SSD. I'm able to boot my machine on the SSD if I disconnect my HDD but it doesn' like that my profile isn't available. I've also tried to change the disk order in my laptop BIOS but I don't have the option of changing the order of the individual disks.

What I want to do is be able to do is image only my SSD and not the entire system. I also want to do it on a regular basis and avoid having to open up my laptop and disconnect the HDD.

Is this related to the order of my disks in the disk manager or is that just a red herring? How do I make it so I can only select the SSD when creating a disk image?

Restore A Two Drive System Image Onto One Drive?

For example if I purchase a 500 GB hard drive can I restore that image to the new drive? Will it partition the C from the B on the new drive or just show it as seperate folders?

Upgrading Old XP PC To Larger HD And Windows 7

Mar 18, 2012

I have an old Dell Dimension 5100 running XP with a 150GB HD and only 1GB of RAM. I'm going to check with Dell if the system will support Windows 7 as know I can upgrade the RAM to 4GB which I believe is the min needed for Win 7. Assuming this is the case I am wondering if I can also upgrade the HD to a 320GB one I have spare. My cheapest route to upgrade is I can access a cheap achademic upgrade from XP to Win 7 Pro.

So the question is how do I get from XP on one drive to Win 7 on the other drive since the upgrade only operates on the drive with XP installed. I can either:
a) Do a clean install on Windows 7 on the XP HD and then do something fancy to move the whole thing to the new HD?
b) Do the fancy transfer first and then upgrade to Windows 7?

I suspect the answer will be to do the clean install first and then use something like System image and restore tools in Windows 7 to transfer over? I did find the tutorial on using sysprep in Windows 7, but not sure if that is in additional to the system image method or a differnt method.

I'm assuming I can resize the active partition using Disk Management afterwards.
