View 3 Replies View RelatedNot exactly sure how to explain or even exactly what im looking for but basically I had an older laptop running windows 7 home premium that allowed me from the boot menu to re install windows & home premium w/o key or anything. It was placed on a partition of my hard drive. I would like to do this again but im not sure what exactly im looking for or how to search for it in shorter terms. It was an MSI Intel duel core laptop. I would like to put it on my toshiba quad core. Im familiar with partitioning software and image restoration but not sure what exactly i should be looking for to do this. Just a clean Reinstallation of my OS without needing keys i dont care to back up any information except my os which is a clean install. Update Toshiba has this HDD recovery but i am not sure if this is what i need/want. MSI had a MSI recovery which did what i want. Is this the same/similar?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7 Professional as a 32 bit version. Now I want to install Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on my machine from my USB drive. The problem is that my machine doesn't boot from the USB drive. Anyway, I've tried with a 32 bit version of Windows 7 on my USB drive. This works well, but not with a 64 bit version. Why it doesn't work? Just to be on the safe side, I've tested it several times with other USB drives and followd thoroughly the instructions(diskpart).

View 0 Replies View RelatedI currently have a disc copy of windows 7 and I am currently running it as my main OS as well. I was wondering just in case my computer decides to have a few issues is there anyway I can make a data partition to store windows 7 or put it on a flash drive so that in the incident of a hardware failure I would be able to go into my bios and boot the recovery partition or boot it from a flash drive allowing me to reinstall the OS.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 1TB drive that partitioned with 120gb system and rest is a non primary/non boot data partition volume... I've never used windows 7 create system image, but want to. When I try to create a system image it insist on backing up both drives. I don't see how to deselect the data drive. Is this because I have installed something system related. on the data drive? And Finally, how will recovery of a system image works if I get a blue screen, do I need to install windows 7 again first or have a repair CD? I noticed when I started a create system image it asked me for the destination drive, no exact path on the drive, does the image have be created on the root of the destination drive?

The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.
my main pc got a new motherboard and requires a fresh install of windows 7. Ok, I have the windows 7 iso and I have the motherboard installed into my computer. I put the ISO on my flash drive but when I booted from the flash drive I got "Reboot and select a proper boot device or insert media in selected device and press a button." After 2 days and countless hours searching I can not get this to work. The computer I am on right now is a Windows XP 32x laptop. Is it even possible for me to make a usb drive loaded with windows 7 ultimate 64x for another computer? With every step by step guide I found on how to do this they either said to use the Windows 7 usb dvd download tool (which is what I have been using since the beginning to no avail) or do it manually. To do it manually involves the Diskpart feature of the command prompt, which on xp, doesnt detect flash drives. So...I cant do it manually.tell me if I have to reinstall my old motherboard (heatsink installation is a pain which is why I dread installing motherboards) and then upon reinstalling old motherboard do I have to set up my flash drive (again) and hope I didnt mess up just to rip the motherboard back out and put the new new one back in and hope the usb boots this time?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis isnt the first time i use the windows backup to create a system image, ive done it before using this external hdd with no problems at all.But now, for some reason it wont detect this hard drive, it only gives me the option to store the image on a dvd, i dont know why?, i tested the hard drive on a different computer and IT WORKS, i tried to create an image and it does work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running into issues recently with a number of Windows 7 pc's where the hard disk will no longer be accessible. If I use startup repair, it will fail and not detect the disk or not even reach the recovery options screen. If I plug the drive into another windows pc, it will want to initialize and format.I can plug the disk into a mac or linux and am able to read / write to the disk as normal. The only way i've overcome this so far is to reformat the drive.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am about to buy a new internal hard drive for my laptop, and want to do a clean install of Windows 7. My laptop came with XP, but I did an online upgrade to Windows 7 (student edition) Professional.
How can I create a bootable Windows 7 disk so when I put my new hard drive in my computer, it will setup Windows 7 for me? I also don't have any old XP disks because my laptop didn't come with any.
I looked on my C: Drive but couldnt find any .iso files or anything like that?
I'm trying to install 7 on a VHD using the command prompt. Now it does work but the problem is that it installs 7 Basic when I do it like this. I have Professional. Now I can use the Anytime Upgrade and use my product key to get Pro activated but because I'm in basic, 7 won't work on the VHD at boot. When it asks for my product key upon first time setup, it doesn't work since it's looking for a Basic product key.
Is there a way to get 7 Pro on the VHD through the CMD?
My system is Dell Inspiron 17R SE (7720), 1 TB Hard Disk 5400 rpm + 32 GB mSATA, 8 GB RAM, 3rd Gen i7. I was trying to make a bootable USB flash drive for windows 7 from Windows 7 Home Premium Reinstall disk that came with my Dell laptop, using the WinToFlash utility. But in starting the process, the PC froze, all applications (even explorer.exe) stopped, and Alt+Ctrl+Del refused to work. I turned the laptop off and back on, where it refused to even show the OS list and showed a DRMK message instead with a command prompt C:> as:
Loading DRMK V8.00...

I tried booting from Windows 7 reinstall DVD but none of the repair options worked. I tried reinstall and repair options but my Hard Drive did not show up. It rather asked to Load Drivers for the Hard Disk. However, it did show any of the USB drives I connected to it, along with an X: drive, which must be the recovery drive for Dell's factory restore. I tried looking for Hard Disk drivers in that but no luck.
Then I downloaded from another PC a USB utility for Seagate Hard Drives from Dell website that makes a bootable USB. I ran that utility and it showed all the test passed (But there was no firmware update during the tests). Another thing I tried was using list disk command on command prompt in Windows Repair, but It did not show any drives, not even the X: drive. It only showed the USB drives I attached to it, or the DVD drive in list volume command.
I cannot boot to windows, I cannot install new windows, I cannot repair the windows and I cannot even factory restore my laptop. The hard drive shows up in BIOS, but not in Windows Boot or Windows Installation. Is there any way I can get my Hard Disk back without losing data? I have two partitions of that drive. I don't care about formatting C: Drive (Windows) but I wanna preserve E: Drive (the one filled with personal data but no programs).
How to full format my laptop hard drive. I have already Re install windows 7 in E: drive. Previously I have win-7 in C: drive after encounter some problems, Re-install new Windows 7 but that time I didn't format the hard disk that's why its install in drive E. Now when start the up of the lap top both selection are coming will start with old win or new win-7...and having some trouble with my windows 7 that's why I want to full format the hard dive without bootable disk and install new win-7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had XP and Vista installed on my primary SATA hard drive (on SATA0 channel). There was no space for another operating system, so I added a secondary hard drive (to SATA2 channel) and installed Windows 7 to it. It worked perfectly. After a few weeks my old primary hard drive suddenly died, and the computer doesn't boot anymore. So I put the remaining live hard drive to SATA0 channel, and bought another new SATA drive and put it to SATA2 channel. Now I need to add boot files to my drive, because both operating system and data files are there, I just need to let the computer start.
So I have one good healthy SATA drive, Windows 7 installed on it, but without boot files, because that other (now dead) drive was used to start up the computer. I though that Windows 7 Installation DVD will help, but it doesn't. When I try to use its repair disk feature, it fails to find any installed Windows, so it says there's nothing to boot to, nothing to reapir. If I use the command line utility from the same DVD, I can see both my C: and D: partitions are there, with all files, I can see all my directories, I can see Windows folder, Program Files folder etc. But what does it need to boot?
I also tried "upgrade" from W7 Installation DVD, but it says that I should run this option from inside Windows. Since I cannot start the Windows, this option isn't for me. When I tried a new fresh installation, I got a warning that all my current data will be overwritten, and that also isn't option I am searching for.
I am having 500gb usb hardisk in which i had create a partition of 10gb and i want to create that partition bootable with windows 7 pls tellme what to do there are many ways given to make harddisk bootable but its for complete harddisk not for selected partition.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHere's the scenario: I have a 1TB disk with several partitions on it.
#1: Primary partition with Vista on it.
#2: A 500GB primary partition used as storage/backup.
#3: A 50GB partition encrypted with Truecrypt, Logical drive
Now, I want to create a new Primary partition at the end of the drive, so I can install another copy of Windows 7. Notice my 500GB storage partition does not need to be Primary, but it is, and I cannot create any more Primary partitions. How can I change the storage partition to a logical drive, and have my new partition be Primary?
can we create the logical partition after Z: drive?if yes then what we will be the name of that drive

Reading comments on the internet it seems clear that I have to make an ISO file, but I'm unsure what directory/files I need to pick and copy.

The tutorial for creating the bootable XP disc worked great and I would like to have a backup with SP1 on it for my Win7 Home Premium x64 (retail version). I didn't see anything in the Win 7 tutorials, maybe it can't be done with 7, but if it can I would do it so I have the cd with SP1 on it already.
I had bought new laptop. At that I have two drives and I locked one of them with the bitlocker and later on I just deleted that drive from disk management. Now I cannot create partition, I have more than 160 GB and system does not allow me to install a fresh copy and neither it allows me create a partition. What should I do?
