Installing Windows 7 On Fresh Hard Drive Windows Failed To Start
Oct 14, 2012
I tried installing Windows 7 64 bit OEM on a fresh hard drive but it kept crashing and now when I try booting the system seems to think Windows is installed saying ''Windows failed to start'' in boot manager. I even tried loading the computer up with a different hard drive but it STILL says that!

I have just got a new Solid state drive and i wanted to do a fresh install of Windows 7 but have been wondering the best way to go about it. Do i do one of the following after backing up all needed data.
1) just unplug all the other harddrives and plug in the new SSD drive and boot up the CD from there. Then at after the install just plug back the old hard drives (even with the windows 7 install) and then reformat them from windows.
2) Run the computer with the Windows 7 Disc and select the solid state drive and ask for a fresh install. Im not too sure that this is a viable option.

I have a HP Probook 4530swith Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. When I turn on the PC the windows does'nt start and give a option of starting windows manually, which does'nt work, and repair windows. Repairing windows with windows 7I then decided to reinstall windows 7, but while installing, on the select disk page, it shows a error saying no drives found.I then performed a Hard Disk Test which resulted in failure saying:Failure ID : UC7WX0-5NB67S-XD6V5G-60TF03

I just reinstalled Windows 7 on a new hard drive and during the installation process, I split the disk into two equal partitions of 500gb. In 'My Computer' I can only see one partition which is the C drive but not the other partition. Looking in Disk Management, the other partition seems to be labelled as 'Unallocated'. How can I allocate this into a usable D drive? I would have expected this to happen automatically during the installation process.

I bought a new 2 Tb hard drive because my primary one was getting full. I would like to do a fresh install on the primary drive once I have moved over all the games, videos, pictures, etc. that I don't want to lose. I can format the primary drive and reinstall windows without affecting the content on the second drive, correct? Is there anything I need to know?

I've just installed a new hard drive and a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on it, and I just received two BSODs within minutes of each other, citing ntoskrnl.exe withSYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION on BlueScreenView. I had periodical blue screens before my last HDD died so it's most likely something else causing it, maybe hardware... but not sure how to tell what. I've attached the necessary files.- the original installed OS on the system? Yes- Full retail version- What is the age of system (hardware)? About 5 years- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) Two days

I've had a sudden loss of my hard drive space. I've deleted alot of stuff, like over 20GB, more then just a few times and it just disappeared in less then 2 days. I've read some topics here with the about same problem and tried what they sugested there: to use software like WinDirStat, TreeSize Free and SpaceSniffer. But they just won't show me my whole hard drive. The stop at 50% and show it as if they have scan the whole 100%.

Me and my fiance just finished putting together her first real gaming computer and we wanted to use a Patriot 64g SSD to put win 7 on and use a 1TB Seagate drive for all the rest of the storage. The installation of Win 7 onto the SSD went nice and smooth but when we get into windows it is not detecting the 1TB HD at all. Funny thing is that when I go in to the SSD properties, I can see the Seagate under the sharing options. The only info I have found is how to clone off an existing hard drive with Win 7 on it not how to do a fresh install on 2 new drives.

I've been trying to change the motherboard and cpu in my current computer. After hooking everything up, the computer runs till the windows 7 loading screen, then stalls and restarts. Upon restart I'm brought to the "windows has failed to start" message and attempting to repair through that yields no results. I hooked my old parts back up to make sure the hard drive was still good and it is. With the old parts everything boots normally.
The new parts I'm putting in are;
-AMD fx 6 core 3.3ghz processor
-Asus M5A97 motherboard

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 (2.5 years old). All my data is backed up so I have no concerns about recoverying data.First, the laptop crashed and ran several chkdsk on start up. I froze several times during this. It said it had fixed some errors then started up again. This time it wanted to do start up repair. Same thing kept happening, froze at least twenty times during this. Eventually it gave me the blue screen of death.
'Technical information
*** STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8004C1D260, 0xFFFFFA8004C1D498, 0xFFFFF8000130DDA0)'
This repeated several times. I ran the diagnostics and it told me the hard drive could not be found (error code 0146, 2000-0146). Essentially, it's a Dell laptop (I know) and I am not bothered about recovering the hard drive.I would, however, like to install Windows 7, or alternatively Linux, onto my external hard drive. But I just can't seem to get it to work.I have extracted a Linux iso to the external hard drive I want to install on, onto a cd, onto a FAT32 8gb usb stick, but it has given me the bootmgr is missing error every time. I have tried it with the interal HDD in and removed.I am no longer concerned about the internal HDD, i can use it for a door stop for all I am concerned, I just want to load ANY os onto my external hard drive so I can get the laptop working.

I have just bought a brand new hard drive due to my last ones controller failed.
Western Digital Caviar Black 500gb
So the problem,
Did a fresh install of win 7 (Build 7229) two nights ago, all installed perfectly, next day (yesterday) went to boot up pc and had the dos error message - Disk boot failure, please insert system disk and press enter.
My first impression was it may have been an install failure, so i formatted the hard drive and reinstalled. shutdown the PC and rebooted up and i had the same error message, now after this, i got my failed hard drive out and after a lot of faffing around, BIOS found it and it gave me the same error message.
Can anyone tell me what the problem might be. I have tried Windows startup repair, did not fix.
BIOS settings are
First boot device is Hard drive
second boot device is CD-ROM
(I have even swapped these around to boot from windows 7 and it just starts the setup procedure of installing windows drivers) I have even set boot order of HDDs so my main windows HDD is up top. Anyone got any clues.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T410. Win7 came pre-installed on hard drive without DVD copies. I want to put in a new solid state hard drive. Is there a way to create a Windows installation disc so I can format and install Win7 on the new hard drive? I know there's a copy of Win7 on a partition on the hard drive but I don't know what to do to make a DVD.

I bought an Off-The-Shelf desktop computer for gaming purposes, though unfortunately, I found out that upgrading it is not really easy, or possible. So, I decided to use the hard drive and DVD-R/W drive in a new build:It does come with an OEM Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit edition install on it, however, I have read that to upgrade the motherboard on it will not work due to the OS being Tied to the motherboard installed in it!
1. Is it possible to install a new OS ,Windows 7 Home Premium (the non-builder/non-OEM verison) over the previous one? and Also, how do I overwrite the old installation?
2. Do I really need to buy a new OS copy to build a new system?
new PC build Specs:
AMD Phenom 2 x4 975
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
Thermaltake TR2-RX 850W black widow W0139
Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2GB
Corsair Vengence 8GB 1600
NZXT Phantom 410-red
Cooler Master hyper 212+
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200.12 (original HD from OEM system)
Generic DVD-R/W (unknown brand/model)

I just got a new computer, new hard drive and everything. I attempted to install Windows 7 (full version, NOT an upgrade) by putting the disc in, starting the computer, and booting from the BIOS. The monitor shows a bar that says that the Windows files are loading. Then it displays the little Windows logo. And finally it comes to a blue-ish screen with a bird on it (which I have been told is the sign-on screen) with a cursor. Nothing else. I've tried pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE and running Safe Mode. Nothing works.
I have heard that the solution might have something to do with putting certain drivers onto a flash drive. Is that true? If so, um... explain. If not, explain that too.

When I try to install windows 7 I get to the point where you have to select which drive/partition you want to install it on. This is when the installation hits a brick wall. I had recently backed up and reformatted a 270GB partition of my HDD and decided to use that to install my windows 7 on it. The problem is that when I try to install it on that partition it says that I don't have enought space even though it has 270GB free. I've tried running the setup from windows xp and from the disc via reboot.

I have a copy of windows 7 on an external hard drive in the form of an iso and various files. Is it possible to plug it into a USB port and use the external to install 7 onto the internal? I'd rather not have to buy a Sata DVD drive.Would I need to wipe everything but windows 7 on the external

And then the windows 7 got installed. But now when I log into my PC, I can only see first 3 200 GB drives. Where did my 400 GB drive go? What mistake did I do and how can I recover it back?

i just cloned the OS hard drive in my computer from an 80GB to 160GB (both IDE) using acronis true image enterprise edition.
the clone process completed fine, but when i try to start the computer with the new hard drive plugged in (power and data cables disconnected from the old drive) i get the 'disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter' message when the OS is supposed to startup.
i booted to the windows 7 OS disc and chose the repair option which detected that there was a startup issue with the disk and apparently fixed it, but when i restarted the computer i still get the same error message. i also used the startup repair option from the windows OS disc but it didn't detect any issues.
the interesting thing is that i can boot the new hard drive while the OS disc is in the DVD drive, but if i take it out i get the message again. i've also tried changing the jumper settings on the hard drive (master/single to cable select) but that didn't make a difference.

Recently I dropped my Acer Aspire 1420-2039 notebook damaging the hard drive.I ordered a new WD Blue WD2500BEVT.Unfortunately the week before I dropped my computer, I installed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. So I downloaded an .iso file of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, (What was originally installed on the computer when purchased) and downloaded the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool to re-install the OS using a USB Flash Drive since my computer does not have an optical disk.hen I get to the install screen, Windows will not let me select the hard drive with error 0x80300001 "Windows is unable to install to the selected location."Usually other forums suggest selecting the proper drivers for the drive, however WD does not have drivers available for download saying it uses windows' default drivers
