I'm always getting some graphical glitches when I minimize vmware workstation in full screen mode when running mac os x 10.6.6. And I think it's because of gdi objects always running out. So how do I increase the gdi objects in windows 7?
I have had computer games before but never ever experienced the problems I have with the HP games. My passwords have not been recognized, the games are incredibly difficult to download and when they finally are something is always not Kosher. Now that Sherlock Holms has been downloaded and the program begun, there are no objects at the bottom of the screen to identify (picture too large?) and no way to get out except to hit "escape".
When my computer finishes starting up, it ends with what looks like blobs of colored pixels in a line at the top of my screen. This happened for the first time tonight and I have no clue what happened. I took out my video card and plugged my monitor into the mother boards vga slot. Same result. Then i used a HDMI cable from my monitor to my motherboards HDMI slot. Still, with the same result. I plugged my Xbox 360 up to monitor with the HDMI cable and it looks fine so it's not on the monitor's end.
When the computer is loading, the screen stays black. Then when my desktop would normally show is when the pixels show up and the rest of the screen is black.
This is a brand new machine with a brand new install of Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1. I'm having a problem with the inheritable permissions. In the Advanced Security Settings for one of my games, I'm trying to Include Inheritable Permissions From This Objects Parent. The check box has a check in it and it is grayed out but under Inherited From, is shows <not inherited>.
I click on Change Permissions, the Include Inheritable Permissions isn't grayed out and has a check in the box but when I click on Apply, it doesn't change the inheritable permissions. It's probably something I'm not savvy enough to catch but I think I'm at the limit of my knowledge with this. It shows me as Owner with all permissions but still having a problem getting it to start without a pop up asking if I want to let it run.

When I copy folders from hdd to ext.hdd (or the reverse), sometimes I get a dialogue informing me that some file's names were too long for the destination. It gives me the option to skip or cancel. What really sux here is that I am not beinginformed/being provided with a list of what files did not make the journey.Anyone else run into this and is there a solution? Perhaps some copy/move setup parameter that I am not aware of?
When I move an object on my desktop (file, window etcetera) the mouse pointer 'sticks' to the object and has to be clicked to release it. I've looked settings but haven't seen a setting that would resolve this.
I have a Powerpoint presentation with embedded video clips. The Smart Art doesn't animate correctly in Powerpoint 2003 (which, unfortunately, is still being used by a large number of people who need to view these files). Solution 1: I packaged for CD and included PowerPoint Viewer 2007 Outcome: The Smart Art still DOESN'T animate; Embedded videos WILL play
Solution 2: Instruct the end users to download and install PowerPoint Viewer 2010 Outcome: The Smart Art DOES animate; Embedded videos will NOT play.
I discovered that if I open the presentation file in PowerPoint 2010 I get a warning that external medial objects have been blocked. If I click the Enable Content button, then close Powerpoint and go back to Powerpoint Viewer 2010 (on the same computer) embedded video WILL play. How does someone who does not have the full version of Powerpoint 2010 open the presentation file and enable content?
To make things even more complicated... I just opened the Help menu in Viewer. -> The Media tab indicates shortcuts for start, stop, volume, etc. Then, I opened the readme file. -> "PowerPoint Viewer does not support running macros, programs, or opening linked or embedded objects". That's a bit contradictory, isn't it? Media IS an embedded object, is it not?!
I've found that since recently starting with Win7 the font/point size in nearly every program I use is 'thin' or 'weak'. Even Firefox. It's all very pretty and neat and I can see it alright, but I'd like to be able to change it to suit me. No problem doing this in Word etc.I'm using a full-HD TV/monitor at full resolution. All I can see to do is change 'display image'. I note this can range from the default 125%>150>200.However, this brings up a window pointing out there may be problems encountered doing this. All I really want to do is change the font to BOLD as I've just done! Is that so difficult?I'm assuming that all the other programs are taking their cue from font settings within Win7. As a Win7 newbie, am I right in thinking this and is there any way I can easily change to the bold font I'd prefer? Or am I missing something basic here?
I've searched everywhere, including (when you click F1) in windows 7. I need a keyboard shortcut for increasing and decreasing volume, and I don't mean when playing a video or something, I mean the "general" one. (Not in Media Player)
Back in Windows XP, I was able to increase a PS/2 mouse's sampling rate from its default setting to 200 Hz at `Device Manager > Mouse > 'Name of Mouse' > Properties > Advanced Settings > Sample Rate` (like this [link]), but this setting is now gone in Windows 7. Is there another way to increase or change a PS/2 mouse's polling/refresh/sample rate in 64-bit Windows 7?The mouse uses generic installed-by-Windows default drivers back in XP, and the same with Windows 7.Edit: The screenshot is not from my PC. I just got it somewhere in the internet. It is just to illustrate how to edit a PS/2 mouse's sample rate back in Windows XP.
I currently have the Geforce 8600 GT 256mb <<(i think that's the VRAM not sure tho)
i can't run crysis on medium without lag....
my friend has a GeForce 8600 GT 1GB and can run crysis on High without any lag, and yes i have been to his house and personally played on his computer it is true! Don't tell me I'm lying i checked everything.
So, i can easily buy the GeForce 8600 GT 1GB but is it worth it? will it really make it so i can play crysis at-least on MEDIUM without lag on a low resolution like 1280x800 or even less. It's only $50 so even if i see a slight difference i would still buy it.
My mic is at 100% and it is working perfectly fine and everyone can hear me. However, at night time I have to talk really quiet or else my parents will wake up and get very mad. Talking this quiet however, nobody can hear me.
Is there some way or some program that can increase the mic volume over 100% so I can talk quietly at night time and the people I'm talking to can hear me?
I'm working on a friend's computer and she's having more BSODs lately. I'm trying to figure out the cause here. I've run MalwareBytes and found nothing. I don't know how to interpret these dump files, and I can't get it to blue screen for me.
System Specs: HP - HPE-137c Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.5ghz 8GB RAM Norton 360 =/
just purchased a cpu with windows 7. Wanted to increase virtual memory but didn't know how much I should increase it by. I have 8GB of ram and all that is allocated in virtual memory is 8183MB. I can increase it to 880,474MB didn't know how much I should increase it to? Any suggestions?
If bring it down to zero and it will immediately bring it back to 100%. It's like the system doesn't want to play any content below full volume.I first thought it was my mouse or keyboard, but I unplugged both of them but to no avail. I am at a loss as to what I should be doing. I can't play content at full volume, especially since I use headphones almost exclusively.
I bought a new Philips SHP 2000. Decent headphone but no option to control the volume. Anyway, while watching movies I can use VLC or MPCStar to increase the volume beyond 100%. But for mp3, I usually go for WMP and the sound, obviously, is too low. Same way, while gaming the sound is too low even if I put it at 100% in game settings. The speaker icon in taskbar shows 100%.
Just a little hard to find bit of info on increasing the graphics size memory for the virtual SVGA graphics adapter on a Virtual Machine running under vmware products.
The default is only 16 MB (VRAM) which probably isn't enough to get Aero going on a Windows 7 Virtual machine. You need WKS 7 / vmware workstation 3.0 for 3D support in any case.
Solution
Edit the .vmx file with notepad (Open with notepad) and insert this line
svga.vramSize = "sizeInBytes"
I think 64MB is needed for AERO -- mine works with 64MB - but you could try 32.
Vm runs with FULL AERO -- no prob at all.
here's what I added to my .vmx file for a Windows 7 Professional X-64 Virtual machine - look at the last line.
Give it say 64 MB. Don't forget its size in BYTES you have to set -- if you do it wrong then the VM won't power on so backup the .vmx file before messing around with it.
The hdd has two patitions named C and D (for recovery).Upgrading from Vista to Window 7, has rendered the 10 GB (partition D) too small. The partition C is 176 GB
My laptop has increasing updates when I switch it on. It started at update 1 of 1 and is now at update 1 of 66. Which means it can take forever to start. I don't understand why this is increasing all the time? And I can't find any similar queries on any support sites? Is it possible this is a virus? I have AVG free anti-virus software and the computer scan is coming out clear. Even in Safe mode.
I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a notebook which previously ran Vista. No problems there .....
I've now installed Ubuntu (now updated to 10.04) so that it can boot to either OS. It all works fine and when I first power up, I get a screen which invites me to select the OS I want to use. There are however two problems:
1) it defaults to Ubuntu (whereas I would prefer it to default to Windows 7), and 2) the list of choices is getting increasingly complex with an expanding list of choices (with each major update of Ubuntu adding more); it even seems to include an option to go back to Vista!
As long as I move down the list and make the right selection quite speedily, I get to where I want to be (though, as I say, I would like to change the default option).
Is there any way I can edit/shorten this list without damaging the functionality and how can I change that default?
In setting up my wife's computer, I allocated 30 gigs to the C: partition...probably a big mistake. I'd like to increase its size by about 100G, and I have shrunk the D: and E: partitions accordingly, using the Disk Management tool.
Now however I am stuck with two separate blocks of unallocated space, and apparently no way to expand the C: partition into that extra space. Is there any way this can be done within Windows 7 or do I have to seek out some additional software?
i have a htpc at home, hooked up to a 1080p tv at 1920x1080. because i sit 10 feet from my tv, i needed to increase the text dpi to 150% so i can see what's on the screen. however, i found that increasing the dpi is just simply reducing the screen resolution to 1280x720, and then enlarged to 1920x1080 so everything is bigger. i know this is true because many program state that as my resolution. full screen Internet videos automatically go to 720p instead of 1080p (unless i disable dpi scaling for chrome, which makes my text small again). there is a dramatic decrease in detail (1080 -> 720) when watching blu-rays with 150% dpi because the resolution is lowered by dpi scaling. pictures in browsers are enlarged and not shown at the original resolution.dpi scaling is pointless if it just reduces resolution. is there a fix for this, or is dpi scaling just this poorly implemented in windows 7?
i am a new comer of laptop world.do u have any suggestion for increasing the battery life of my lappy?i run my lappy maximum when there is power nd never use more than 1 hour on battery as power came instantly.so my battery was always full n showing not charging.is it good to run lyk that or i have to discharge the battery fully nd after that again recharge it??
After installing Windows 7 on Gateway W340UI, the display resolution is decrease till 1024x768. And it hurts eyes and makes less comfortable work on laptop. I suppose that the package drivers of Windows 7 are not compatible with Gateway W340UI. If you know the way of increasing screen resolution
I know there are heaps of topics out there, but they all seem to saying things which I dont understand and dont apply to me. All I need to do is to enable certain applications use connection 1 and the rest use connection 2. How do i do that?
I have an Intel I5 Ivy Bridge CPU, Win 7 64-bit Home Premium OS, 16Gb RAM and Nvidia GTX 550 TI graphics board with 1 Gb DDR5 memory. I run two real-time stock charting/trading programs on two monitors.
My objectives are to improve screen re-draw time and to decrease Windows' hard disk access. While there are other alternatives to consider, I'd like to invite the community to offer thoughts on two questions:
1. How to increase Window's RAM usage for paging/caching : The System Monitoring tools are showing that RAM usage is only about 30% of the 16Gb installed while Windows' hard drive caching is continuously busy. If there is a tweak to increase RAM usage, I would expand RAM memory to 32Gb.
2. Otherwise, I might install a 120 Gb Solid State Drive. Then, the question is whether using the SSD for the OS or as the cache drive as per Intel Rapid Storage
