I have an Intel I5 Ivy Bridge CPU, Win 7 64-bit Home Premium OS, 16Gb RAM and Nvidia GTX 550 TI graphics board with 1 Gb DDR5 memory. I run two real-time stock charting/trading programs on two monitors.
My objectives are to improve screen re-draw time and to decrease Windows' hard disk access. While there are other alternatives to consider, I'd like to invite the community to offer thoughts on two questions:
1. How to increase Window's RAM usage for paging/caching : The System Monitoring tools are showing that RAM usage is only about 30% of the 16Gb installed while Windows' hard drive caching is continuously busy. If there is a tweak to increase RAM usage, I would expand RAM memory to 32Gb.
2. Otherwise, I might install a 120 Gb Solid State Drive. Then, the question is whether using the SSD for the OS or as the cache drive as per Intel Rapid Storage
I am using a school laptop running winxp that has 2 GB ram. But it still uses 1 GB of the page file in addition to the physical ram. I heard that windows 7 has "better" performance that xp.
I was wondering if upgrading to vista and then 7 would help reduce ram usage. I suspect it is the educational crapware loaded on the laptop that is hogging the ram with background processes and the like, but I don't see how it can take up an entire 2 GB ram + 1 GB page file.
I've attached the HJT txt file. Mod Edit: Removed HJT log, malware tool not used in this forum and stated issues seem to be non-malware-related ~ Hamluis.I've noticed that there are always multiple chrome.exe applications running. Also, the moment I start itunes, the apsdaemon program runs and the useage shoots to 100% until I close it. The laptop I have is a quadcore, 4gig ram fairly new comp. It just shouldn't be running this slow and being bogged down like this.
My computer is running all the time over 50%. AMD 4x, W764, 2x hd 1 tb, ram 8 gb. MS Office, CS5, acrobat, pinnacle, etc. I have Avast and MS Defender. I have made twice online scanning with Fsecure and AVG. I have made weekly scanning with System Mechanic, CCleaner, Adware and Spybot. Nothing serious found ever. This problem came when I changed the system hd (C:) 40 Gb -> 1000 Gb and reinstalled W7. Now the Hd (C:) runs all the time, but what? I stopped all Adobe programs (Photoshop / Acrobat) and this decreased cpu usage to about 40-60%. When only 2 services was running (Avast and CatalystContrCentr) cpu runs still too much 10-30%. I made a repair W7 installation, but nothing better.
i have a problem with my computer. It is a ASUS K53U. The computer is barely one month old and it already slooooow. It is always around 88-100% cpu usage, and when i open example spotify its always 100%.
I'm using Windows 7 premium with 3GB ram. please help! because i know that this is not normal
I am looking for a program which can effectively monitor the time a user spends on a computer, perhaps by looking at keystrokes/mouse movements, or something else...either way, I'd like to be able to compare the usage time on several computers. If I could monitor these times remotely, that would be great, but it is not necessary. It would also be great if rather than just saying "user x spend y time on the computer today", it would log it, so say between what times the user was active.
I'm looking for a powerful software that will limit my own computer usage, of course on an administrator account. For example let's say from now until one month later I limit computer usage for one hour a day, since I decide and confirm my decision to the software it will be impossible to change my mind under any circumstances, until the time limit has expired. I know how to fix computer time. But I cannot find this software!!!!!! ALL software's are made for parental control (don't word on administrator account or changed easily) but I could find no program to limit computer addiction!
I am having a problem with my laptop that started a bit over a week ago. The CPU usage is very high, most of the time. I have tried a variety of things from updates to Windows and drivers, to security scans from various programs, yet the problem remains.
Basic info: OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, 32 bit Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6570 @ 2.10GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10 Processor Count: 2 RAM: 1912 Mb Graphics Card: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family, 828 Mb Hard Drives: C: Total - 230364 MB, Free - 114501 MB; Motherboard: TOSHIBA, NBWAA Antivirus: None
I uninstalled MSE earlier to see if that was the cause, but it was not, hence no antivirus protection. Additionally, I installed Process Explorer to have a better idea of the cause. A large part that takes up much of the CPU is the svchost.exe-taskeng.exe-NDSTray.exe-CFSwMgr.exe process. I can easily post a HiJack this log or screen caps of Task Manager or Process Explorer.
I'm having this for quite some time now, physical memory usage goes up (especially when using firefox/bitcomet - both of which are the highest consumers of memory on my taskbar-around 200-500MB of RAM). shutting them down will only free a small amount of the memory and the rest still counts as taken. at first i thought it was a bitcomet only thing: Bitcomet hogging memory - Comet Forums it looks like a memory leak since the process won't free the memory i also read on google that using a processor with "NUMA" based memory design doesn't go well with windows 7 (which is the case here), therefore i tried to download an attached hotfix which apparently did not match my machine (Windows6.1-KB2155311-x64) here are my specs:
cpu: intel i7 860 gpu: geforce 560 ti 8GB 1333MHZ of RAM tons of free hd space
I've had a problem staring up diablo 2. When I do I get a error 22 (direct draw failed to initialize). I've tried this in every compatibility mode and with all other compatibility settings such as 256 colour mode. Windows XP mode gives the same errorDiablo's video tester informs me that no compatible video modes are available (directdraw, direct3d and 3dfxglide).
I used to play Runaway in Vista but it did'nt open and it keeps me saying that "Error Starting DirectDraw" , but works fine in XP. Now if I play it in Windows 7 could it play. (I think it won't because Vista & 7 kernel is same. )
How do you activate the direct draw accelerator for dell n5010 windows 7 core i5 w/ 4gb RAM laptop? i bought this laptop few days ago and the 3d is not working.
I have been using Windows 7 Home & Corel Draw 9 for months with out any problems. Now the Windows help and support pop up won't go away so I can't use CD 9. The message is: "Why can't I get Help from this program? The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which depends on a feature that isn't included in this version of Windows. However, you can download a program that will allow you to view Help created in the Windows Help format. For more information, go to the Microsoft Help and Support website."how to get rid of this and regain use of CD 9?
It has 2 inputs, DVI and VGA. I have two different types of cables, HDMI-DVI and VGA-VGA. I tried connecting my laptop to the monitor.
My laptop has two outputs, VGA and HDMI. When I use the HDMI output, the image on my monitor is sharp and clear. When I use the VGA output and the VGA-VGA cable, the image on my monitor is blurry.
EDIT: My VGA connector also has one peculiarity. From the point of view of the sockets, Pin No. 9 is missing, for both ends. (although it may unused)
i have a problems about my pc, sometimes the cpu usage goes to 90% without opening many things, my ram performance is always around 75%. also when i play any gameit become lag for a few seconds and weird sound came out.
I Used my PC from around last 3 years, and i never formatted it. But recently it takes too much time to booting and the processing speed is very slow, after fifteen minutes it becomes normal. it had 4 GB ram.how can i improve my processing speed.
I'm not too terrible familiar with all the ins and outs of networking, but I have some "basic" questions as I am looking into improving my network speed.
I'll begin with what I have on the network.
2 PCs, PS3, Xbox 360 (all wired) and a Wii (wireless).
I have a WRT54GS router currently. I'm considering getting the D-Link DGL-4500 as an upgrade. My question is, would this be a significant upgrade? One of my PCs has a gigabit Ethernet card and one does not. Will this router supply the fastest speed to each device or would it provide the speed that the weakest device was capable of to all devices on the network?
Secondly, my Internet provider offers 3 packages.
7 Mbps X 512 Kbps
9 Mbps X 768 Kbps
11 Mbps X 1 Mbps
I currently have the 1st package (7 X 512), so how dramatic would the change from the 1st to 3rd package be?
I'm primarily looking to A) Get constant good speeds when gaming B) Get significant increased speeds when streaming video etc.
Again, I'm quite new to the networking side of things, so I don't know if these questions even make complete sense, but I thought I'd ask before I try the spend and trial/error approach, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would like to improve the audio quality on my lap top. I am planning on buying some high quality head phones so I can watch movies and listen to music in private.
I have the HP Pavilion dv6-1245 dx, product number NV068UA. It has all of the factory hardware still installed.
Can someone help me find a good program for this. A program with equalizers and the such, options for setting diff sound types? Hope you understand what I mean. Also, did I give enough tech info?
PS: Should have asked. What are some really good/best over the ear head phones for a PC?
i can watch the videos online, such as Internet, bigpond top video, but now too much buferring time so that i can't watch anything online video program, why?
I have a ACER D255 netbook with intel atom N550 (1.5ghz, 1mb L2 cache) 1gb DDR3 memory and 250 gb hdd. lately it has been a tad slow and freezing up will using google chrome. my task manager says right now that CPU usage is 4% but Memory is at 75%, sometimes up to 90%. it also says that i have 89 processes running.
My wife has a mini laptop which has started to boot up and run very slow. I suspect there may be too many programmes/processes running in the background. Can anyone recommend a good programme that will let me clean up all the unnecessary programmes running on the laptop and then decide which one I want to run at startup?
how to improve my computer rating score of 5.9 while still maintaining a decent overall PC temperature; I understand that, that is the highest windows 7 will allow? rating is low due to low disc data transfer. How to improve?
