IE 8 /Windows 7 Won't Recognize Media In CDDVD Drive

Windows Explorer Does Not Recognize CDDVD?

Feb 9, 2011

When I open Windows Explorer it does not recognize the CDDVD drive. If I go to Device Manager, it says that the drive is working properly. I've tried to update the driver but it is the latest version. I have uninstalled the drive and when I reboot, I get the message that the drive is installed.. I have a restore point that I created that has the info needed for Explorer to recognize the drive. If I let the computer go to sleep, when I wake it up Explorer no longer recognizes the drive. Sometimes I have been able to reboot and get it to recognize the drive but not every time.

P.S. I'm running Win 7, home premium, 64 bit with a terabyte drive and 6 gbytes of RAM.

Won't Boot From Any Kind Of Media Nor Does It Seem To Recognize It Until Windows Is Loaded

Feb 8, 2013

I'm trying to wipe my pc, and reinstall windows 7. I have to use a downloaded version. It's legit, I've used it before. I just want to rid my pc of all the crap on it.I have a toshiba satellite p755d. It won't boot from any kind of media, nor does it seem to recognize it until windows is loaded.I went to the bios to change the boot order but I couldn't find that option anywhere. I've tried all the function keys as well as holding down the "c" button when the pc boots up.The most I get is a "Windows Error 'something'" I can't remember what it says at something.

Media Player 12 Fails To Recognize Any Discus?

Aug 28, 2011

I'm not pc savy as most of you probably are, thus why I'm here seeking your expert advice. For some reason media player12 is not working. It fails to read any type of discs. My store bought cds or dvds. Nothing will play. It was working fine as I was able to burn a cd from my music files but now no longer works at all. I recently had the mother board replaced and main power source as well. Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not. All settings I went through and think they are correct but not entirely sure. All drivers come back as working and windows claims all is up to date. If anyone could assist me with this issue I'd be very grateful! Please however try to make the instructions as simple as possible as i'm not too familiar with pc terminolgy yet,

Media Player Cannot Recognize An Existing Library

Aug 15, 2012

Several years ago I embarked on the task of digitising my music collection. I acquired the tools for converting the analog signal from my record player or tape deck into digital form, cleaning up the resulting ".wav" file to remove the noise and finally splitting it down into individual tracks and converting them to ".wma" format to match files "ripped" from CDs. The resulting individual track files are named Track sequence + Track title and held in folders having the Album name. Neat and tidy and WMP 8, 9 and 10 could read them quite happily. However, these versions of WMP could not differentiate between various versions of the same piece of music and simply gathers up and stuffs into the library everything that has an audio extension even recordings of noisy meetings and Police interviews. A typical 12" vinyl record being digitised produces Side1.wav, Side2.wav, Sides 1+2.wav, depopped Sides 1+2.wav, Track1.wav, track2.wav ..............Track11.wav, Track12.wav and finally Tracks 1 to 12.wma. All of these get pulled into the library - five copies of the same piece of music. It is prudent to keep the .wav files as backup but they dont belong in the library When I began to organise the files ripped from CDs I was horrified to find them completely incognito, the file name is simply the track number in a folder named unknown album plus the date and time of its creation and itself a sub-folder the folder Unknown Artist. Useless I deleted everything that had been ripped and started afresh renaming everything. I now have - My Music, Artists, Album, Album Track1 Track2 etc. Unknown Artist, Various Artists. and this works perfectly under WMP 10 because the only audio files it has access to are those on the USB drive. Recently, two machines have died and been replaced by machines pre-loaded with Windows 7 and including WMP 12. Show this an existing library, mine has 6,095 tracks in 393 albums, it picks up ten albums at random and says that there is only one track in each. To play music I have to find the album I want to hear using Windows explorer, highlight the tracks I want to play then right click and select "Play". The front screen is fine without the swirling patterns of earlier versions but the rest is useless. Reading through other posts I gather that WMP12 follows the previous versions in building its own library but instead of using locations it copies files across to its own drive. This is not acceptable behaviour for me - so Is there a way of saying to WMP12, "My Music is on Drive x, dont mess about copying it just use it"?. or - have I to discard WMP12 and install WMP10?

CDDVD ROM Driver Issue Only When Using RAID

Oct 25, 2009

I am doing a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-UD5P Motherboard and a LG GGW-h20L Blu ray writer. I can install Windows 7 fine on a single SATA disk setup with the bios settings set to IDE. But when I set the bios settings to RAID and plug the 2 hard disks in and run the windows setup it asks for the CDDVD rom driver. It does not do this when setting it up on a single disk. I have tried the AHCI option, SATA, option, IDE options

I have the latest bios and have tried locating the drivers for the LG writer but was unable to find them. The LG writer already has the latest firmware installed.

My motherboard has a SB750 chipset RAID controller.

Windows 7 Won't Recognize IDE Hard Drive & DVD Drive

Apr 1, 2012

I recently installed windows 7 home premium 64 bit, previous OS was Vista home premium 32 bit. My desktop is an HP pavilion d4650y. I have the OS loaded on my main HD which is a SATA.

HD & DVD drive worked perfectly before on vista. I tested both devices on another pc with XP and they work fine. I've triple checked the connections but still the devices are not recognized by Windows 7. I've also tried renaming the HD & changing the drive letter, but still no luck.

Both drives are connected to a PCI E card, and are set to cable select, on separate cables. In the BIOS both drives show up. In disk management they do not show up at all.

My HD is a western digital 250 gb EIDE, and the DVD drive is a IDE Pioneer DVD burner (secondary disc drive).

Windows 7 Won't Recognize The Hard Drive

Mar 5, 2011

I am building a computer fort the first time and I am having trouble getting Windows 7 to recognize my hard drive. My har drive and mother board are as follows: Hard drive-Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive, Mother Board-GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard when I go to install windows 7 I eventually get to a screen where it ask for an install location, unfortunately it doesnt seem to recognize my hard drive. It gives me an option of installing driver so I went to the gigabyte website and downloaded the drivers that it said I required. I believe there was an ACHI driver and a Raid driver. After I stalled both of these drivers the hard drive still was not detected. One strange thing I noticed was that when I browse for a driver my hard drive is listed as a place I can search. I then proceeded to the Bios to try and match the drivers. The hard drive is detected in the Bio. When the HD is set to IDE my BluRay play is able to read the windows install disc. But windows wont recognize my HD. If I set it to ACHI or Raid I cant seem to get the windows CD to load. Do I need an IDE driver? Out of frustration I tried installing a windows XP to see if it would be able to recognize my hard drive. It seemed to load on the hard drive fine but entered this weird loop where windows would install itself but wouldnt actually load as the operating system. In other words when I try to restart my computer and run the OS off of my hard drive it gave me an error message. Something like (windows OS could not be located) When I went to go install windows 7 again my hard drive still was not detected as a place to intall windows but when I search the hard drive (as if I was searching for a driver) I can see the Windows files that were loaded from when I tried to install XP.

Windows 7 64bit Does Not Recognize 1Tb External Drive?

Feb 17, 2010

I've been all over the net trying to resolve this issue, and found many hotfixes, downloads from Microsoft and manufacturer, but to no avail. My external drive was recognized for the first month. Then, very suddenly, Windows 7 doesn't recognize it. It sees it, but prompts a "Need to Format before first use". It has 300G already used with valuable info.Tried moving the external hard drive to our home PC with Windows XP and the same "Need to Format" message is prompted. If I hook it up on my wife's MAC, I can see the data. Now I have read that this is a known issue with the 64bit version of Windows and external drive. I have already all the KB976972 and KB977074 download fixes from Microsoft. I have also tried to uninstall the drive, unplug it, turn it off, restarting Windows, and plugging back the drive, but I have the formatting prompt again. And if I choose to not format, i have an error message DATA ERROR (CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK).**This does not seem to be an issue regarding only the WD drives but all drives**Called WD tech, and it was useless. Does anyone have a fix? A link to share? An idea? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my HP Pavilion a6418f.

Windows 7 Can't Recognize IDE To USB External Hard Drive?

Aug 7, 2012

For some reason my HP Laptop (Win 7 Home Premium) can't see/recognize my usb external hard drive (seagate). When I start/restart my computer and connected the usb cable into laptop, it shows the icon on bottom taskbar (safely remove hardware and when clicked on the usb icon, I see "open Devices & Printers and Eject USB to IDE bridge), but I can't see my drive at all when I click on "my computer"? I can only see it under "right click Computer, Manage, Device Manger, Disk Drives," it only says; "generic USB Disk USB Device". And when I expanded the USB controllers via Device Manager, I can see it under USB Mass Storage Device. Sadly, I can't do much there/here unless Win 7 can see/recognize the drive under "My Computer".<> HD is 40GB IDE Seagate (enclosure is PowerSpec 3.5 IDE to USB 2.0)<> Drive is only storage for data, documents, pictures and softwares/programs, etc.<> Drive is/was not formattedAgain, this drive was never formatted, only for storage purpose (i.e. pictures, documents, data, etc.). I can see it on my old computer when connected internal via IDE cable.

Windows 7 Installation Doesn't Recognize Hard Drive

Oct 1, 2010

My mother asked me to fix her computer, his window XP is badly corrupted, so I tried to install Window 7 on her computer. However, the hard drive didn't show on the screen. I found it quite odd because BIOS detected it as IDE driver, and it's a SATA driver. I tried to install with old Window XP installation CD. Same thing, doesn't show on the window XP installation screen either.

I tried to hook hard drive on other computer, and was testing with Window 7 XD and see if it was working, and it did. It shown on the disk screen. My guess that it's probably the BIOS that occurred, or perhaps other things. I have one hard drive, nothing more.
