Change Default Media Player / Icons On Media Files Not Changed

Nov 28, 2012

I have VLC Portable as the default program for opening some video files, like .mp4 and .avi. And I have Foobar (portable) as the default program for .mp3.Usually the icons on .mp4, .avi, .mp3 files get updated with the icons of the assigned media players. But on this PC it's not working. They're still the same icons as if WMP was the default player.Does it have to do with the Standard user account? (Because on other PCs I run from an Admin account and I don't have such problems.)

How To Make Windows Media Player Stop Updating Media Every Freaking Time Start It Up

Dec 22, 2010

How can I make Windows Media Player stop updating media every freaking time I start it up? It always hogs up massive amount of CPU power and goes into (Not Responding) for a min while updating.I only add media files to the Windows Explorer Library so I can get indexed searches. I don't even use WMP to view files or anything. Just to burn some music CDs sometimes.I've tried deleting the files from the WMP library but the next time I open it up, it scans and updates all my files again! Is there a way to completely purge the WMP library and make it not update ever? I've unchecked every option that seems to make it scan and update but it still does it.Basically I want to UNLINK the Windows Explorer Library from the WMP Library.

Use 64bit Media Center With 32bit Media Player?

Jul 25, 2011

I'm in grave problem here. I just installed windows 7 x64 a few days back. And initially I installed the 32bit version of k-lite codec pack for my windows media player. The media center worked fine then. It was loading my ffdshow and ac3filter along as I checked it.But then yesterday I noticed that the same pop-up od recommended/express install of WMP came again. Initially I thought that it must be some bug or something, but then when my MKV and AVI files didn't work in WMC, I realized that somehow WMP x64 got triggered, and now it is using the x64 bit of WMP in WMC. And I just wanna revert back to 32-bit WMP in WMC.

0xc000000e Caused By Media Drive

May 8, 2010

I couldn't boot because I was getting a 0xc000000e error when I tried. I then got a new psu, cpu, mobo, and ram. I reformatted my hard drive, and did a fresh install and everything went well. It then restarted to finish the installation and I get the error again. I unplug my 2nd hard drive (with all my music, movies, games etc.) and it boots fine. I'm confused how a hard drive that has never had an OS on it can cause boot errors. I booted into ubuntu before my upgrade and copied things off the media drive fine so I don't think the drive is bad.

I recently brought a Dlink DNS-320 and have searched the relevant forums for that product but all the solutions for resolving a 'map network drive error' have been unsuccessful.I have tried mapping the drive on this product using the IP address and I can ping the IP address for this device, the device also appears on my network via UPnP but I unfortunately I get a error message when trying to map the network drive the DNs-320 also came with a storage utility to map drives but that doesn't work either.I have gone through previous posts and tested this without my firewall on or changing the TCP/IP settings.

SD Card Not Accepted As A Drive By Windows 7 Media Player 12

Jan 15, 2013

I have a Samsung Series 7 Slate with a 64GB micro-SD, and the Windows 7 running WMP12. It wont recognize my SD card for the Music Library because it is a removable device. On my last tablet, a guy helped me build a shortcut from C drive to read the SD card. It worked well. But I don't know how he did it. The following link tries to explain it, but I can not find anything titled "Disk Management" or "Computer Management" in my Control Panel or Computer menus. The way to do this is to go to a known location on your hard drive C: perhapsand create a folder called Camera Card, or whatever. Then start the Computer Management program (Search the start menu for it) and click on "Disk Management" in the left-hand sidebar. Right click your removable drive and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths". Click Add and select "Mount in the following empty NTFS folder". Choose the folder you made earlier (e.g.,C:Camera Card). Now if you look in the C:Camera Card folder you'll see the contents of your SD card. Now, if you right click your new Library you made earlier and add..C:Camera Card to it, it'll work!

programs (live TV) to a folder and drive of my choosing.

I look in setup and see no settings for such.

Frankly, I find the Media Center horrible implementation for what I want to do.

Edit. Doh. I managed to stumble around in the settings menu morass and

found the section I needed for changing to another drive.

I still hate MCE. I want my Beyond TV back.

Now to record Red Eye so I wont have to stay up till 3am.

Error When Backing Up With Windows Media Player Songs In Backup Drive

Nov 2, 2011

I've got all my music in an external drive. When i configured bakups i selected that same external drive as destination to back up to.

Now, i added the music from that drive to windows media player and now, when the computer backs up, i've got this error telling me some files were omitted (namely all the music) because they're on the same drive as the backup's destination.

I'm going to use WMP because it's already there (regardless of there being a million better choices of media players/managers) so don't bother suggesting otherwise.

My question is: is there any special folder i should avoid backing up so this error doesn't happen? (like the one that contains WMP database)

Event type: Warning

Recovery Media To Advance Format Drive Creates Unusable System

Hard drive in 2009 Satellite P500 series notebook, Windows 7 Home Premium X64, is pre-Advanced Format Drive. The 2008, 500 GB Hard drive failed with SMART warning at every boot. (Pre-Advanced Format Drive) Replace with new 500 GB HDD (AFD) Advanced format. Repair with Toshiba supplied 3 Disc set "Recovery Media Satellite P500 series"... Boot okay, no network, Device Mgr shows 6 yellow exclamation marks, but properties all show "The device is working properly". Download latest drivers and install... no change in symptoms. Scrounge up another 2008 (320 GB) Hard drive, and the Recovery Media installs fine. System boots and everything is working great.Image Backup with three different programs, (PQ Drive Image (GHOST), Acronis, Active@Disk Image)Restore to new 500 GB (AFD) hard drive Continue to configure and customize system, and install all the latest updates. Install again, the new AFD hard drive into computer. Machine seems okay.. Use it for a couple days. Discover that Windows Update does not work. Says service is not running. but it is. I spent most of a day trying to resolve. can't fix it. Download an install a stand-alone fix does not work either.

Installing Via USB Or SD Media

Jan 11, 2009

So Windows 7 beta is out the door and you are ready to begin your beta experience. Over the next few months there will be additional builds for Windows 7 (x86 and x64) as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 and that leads to a lot of installs and a lot of DVD burning and useless DVDs as soon as a new build is out. So why not install from USB or whatever other removable media your computer can boot from? Insert your removable media into a Windows XP or Vista PC and run the following commands from an elevated command prompt.

diskpart list disk (find the disk number for the removable media) select disk # clean create partition primary select partition 1 active format fs=fat32 assign letter=y (or any free drive letter) exit Once that is complete mount the ISO and run the following command.
xcopy x:*.* /s/e/f y:

Where “x” is the drive letter of the mounted ISO. Once complete boot off the device and install the OS. When a new Windows 7 or 2008 R2 build is released, simply delete the contents, rerun the xcopy command and you are ready to go again. As a note this also works for Windows Vista and Server 2008 but you already figured that out
