I have a Windows 7 32 Bit mini pc (SPO-Book Turo) It has 4Gigabytes of installed memory but windows will only use 3.The mini pc hasn't got a CD drive.I have put my windows installation files on my second partition of my 1000 gigabyte drive. My BIOS will not identify that the windows set up is on it what so ever.I am trying to install Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

I have Acer Extensa 5230E, with Celeron 900. the CPU can't handle most of the flash so I am thinking about replacing Win 7 with Win XP. (Q1. Is it better to use XP than 7 in this lappy?)I tried to make recovery DVD but don't have much success. So I am thinking about partitioning the hard-drive then save a recovery copy in the partitioned drive. Is there an option that I can do so? How do I install the win 7 from partitioned drive?

My hard drive is partitioned C: and F:. Will a clean install of 7 over XP currently installed on C: mess with my F: drive?? In other words can I save all my stuff to F:??

After having installed it I've seen something strange.
I usually have the disk drive partitioned as following:
C partition, the root one (with programs and OS)
D partition, with all the stuff (projects, downloads, etc.)
Now, after the first boot in my computer I've seen only the partition C.
So, I've opened the computer management / Disk management. Here I've found the partition D.
So, I've assigned a letter to the partition D and now win7 seems to see that partition correctly.
But if I try to do a scandisk (via TOOLS / Error-Checking), a message appears asking to dismount the partition: 'Windows can't check the disk while it's in use. Do you want to dismount this volume first? Note: All opened handles to this volume will become invalid.'
That's sounds really weird to me. Now my doubt is how win7 is managing this partition.
Any hint?
After "C" disk partition, I installed Win 7 in "C" drive. How can I install Win XP Pro in "D" drive?

Not exactly sure how to explain or even exactly what im looking for but basically I had an older laptop running windows 7 home premium that allowed me from the boot menu to re install windows & home premium w/o key or anything. It was placed on a partition of my hard drive. I would like to do this again but im not sure what exactly im looking for or how to search for it in shorter terms. It was an MSI Intel duel core laptop. I would like to put it on my toshiba quad core. Im familiar with partitioning software and image restoration but not sure what exactly i should be looking for to do this. Just a clean Reinstallation of my OS without needing keys i dont care to back up any information except my os which is a clean install. Update Toshiba has this HDD recovery but i am not sure if this is what i need/want. MSI had a MSI recovery which did what i want. Is this the same/similar?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSynopsis: PSU died, replaced PSU with different model, system boots to bios successfully but does not recognize any devices in SATA ports, nor do those devices appear to be getting power. Now can't even get to BIOS, entire PC flicks on and off repeatedly as soon as I turn the PSU on regardless of whether I hit the power button on the front of the computer.

Original PSU that died: SeaSonic M12II 750 SS-750AM 750w PSU
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz
GPUs: ASUS 670 non-top version, SLI (2x)

Storage drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III (This was not connected when power supply died)
Detailed explanation:About a week ago my PSU (Seasonic 750w) died randomly while the computer was left running in sleep . I RMA'd the dead seasonic. In the mean time I happened to come accross an extremely good deal on a new PSU, so I bought it (Thermaltake smart m850w PSU) to have a backup and to get my machine working again. I hooked up the new PSU to GPUs, CPU, fans, ATX power connector, and to all of the SATA devices, (the SSD, the HDD, and the Optical drive). I made sure to connect the data cables to the SATA devices in the same configuration they were in when working properly. The computer boots successfully to the ASROCK BIOS, all fans spinning. However, I get the error code "A6" on "dr debug" (the led display on the mobo). The manual says this means "SCSI detect". I have no idea what that means.
I was able to load the UEFI, and bios recognized all components except for any of the SATA devices--(SSD, the HDD, and optical drive not recognized). The RAM, GPUs, processor, and fans were detected. At this point I was stuck in BIOS because I couldn't boot off anything.I did not have the HDD connected when the PSU failed, but now the BIOS won't read that either. I don't think any of the SATA devices are actually receiving power. Again, the UEFI showed that there were no SATA devices connected to any port, when in reality they clearly were connected both by power and data cable. Then things get really strange. I unhooked all of the SATA devices except the HDD (the one that wasn't hooked up when the original PSU died). I plug the AC into the PSU, then turn on PSU (not the power switch for the computer, the switch on the PSU). The computer starts flicking on and off in this weird rhythmic pulsating pattern "click...click...click...click..." with about a 1/2 second between each click. Each time the power flicks on, the LEDs come on and the fans spin briefly. The strangest part is that I don't need to hit the power button on the front of the case for this to happen, it just starts as soon as the PSU is turned on. In fact, I can't get the computer to turn on at all--the switch on the front of the computer appears to be dead.
1. Unplug the power cables from everything and re-seated them.
2. Reseated the data cables to the optical drive and the SSD on the drive end, not on the MOBO side as they are covered by my GPUs and I would have to take them out in order to do that.
3. Tried hooking up a SATA power cable from my old modular PSU and using that in the new PSU in an attempt to power the optical drive (didn't work, I know, bad idea--I learned you aren't supposed to do this shortly after I tried it)
4. Setting all preferences to default in the UEFI.
5. Disconnecting the power cables from one or both of the GPUs.
I think that this is either a problem with (1) the motherboard, (2) the new PSU, (3) all 3 SATA devices (unlikely). The fact that I can't even get into Bios anymore tells me that this may be a MOBO or PSU issue.My main question is how to procede from here? I suppose I can wait for my Seasonic to come back from RMA--perhaps that will clear up the issue. I just can't shake the feeling that this is a MOBO issue though. I am worried that if I keep screwing around with it I may end up frying my CPU and GPUs. I can eat the cost of a MOBO or PSU if necessary, but I can't afford to buy a new processor and two new 670s.
My current hard drive is dying, so claims Windows and Hitachi Drive Fitness Test. I bought a replacement drive 3TB drive which requires GPT partitioning. I have 64 bit windows and a UEFI motherboard, so I know I can use the drive as a boot drive for a brand new installation.
My question is how do I move the entire contents of my old drive to this new drive and keep it bootable?
I asked on other another site and they suggested I first let the Windows installation disk partition the drive GPT correctly for Windows, then copy the contents of the old drive to the new one. However, another person on that site said that that would break all the symlinks (didn't know symlinks played such a crucial role in the OS) and that I should use a cloning utility that knows how to copy NTFS. Was this person off base, or is it impossible to create a bootable copy of a Windows installation by just copying all the files (this would be from live linux of some type, not Windows itself)? If it is impossible, is there a utility that can copy the contents of a partition correctly, without needing to clone the entire partition table? Also, I have no room to make an image of my old drive anywhere.
Finally, does anyone know if clonezilla can copy an mbr partition to a gpt partition automatically, essentially doing exactly what I need, or will it always copy the partition scheme as well?
I recently installed windows 7 home premium 64 bit, previous OS was Vista home premium 32 bit. My desktop is an HP pavilion d4650y. I have the OS loaded on my main HD which is a SATA.
HD & DVD drive worked perfectly before on vista. I tested both devices on another pc with XP and they work fine. I've triple checked the connections but still the devices are not recognized by Windows 7. I've also tried renaming the HD & changing the drive letter, but still no luck.
Both drives are connected to a PCI E card, and are set to cable select, on separate cables. In the BIOS both drives show up. In disk management they do not show up at all.
My HD is a western digital 250 gb EIDE, and the DVD drive is a IDE Pioneer DVD burner (secondary disc drive).

I then proceeded to the Bios to try and match the drivers. The hard drive is detected in the Bio. When the HD is set to IDE my BluRay play is able to read the windows install disc. But windows won�t recognize my HD. If I set it to ACHI or Raid I can�t seem to get the windows CD to load. Do I need an IDE driver? Out of frustration I tried installing a windows XP to see if it would be able to recognize my hard drive. It seemed to load on the hard drive fine but entered this weird loop where windows would install itself but wouldn�t actually load as the operating system. My external drive was recognized for the first month. Then, very suddenly, Windows 7 doesn't recognize it. It sees it, but prompts a "Need to Format before first use". It has 300G already used with valuable info.Tried moving the external hard drive to our home PC with Windows XP and the same "Need to Format" message is prompted. If I hook it up on my wife's MAC, I can see the data. Now I have read that this is a known issue with the 64bit version of Windows and external drive. I have already all the KB976972 and KB977074 download fixes from Microsoft. I have also tried to uninstall the drive, unplug it, turn it off, restarting Windows, and plugging back the drive, but I have the formatting prompt again. And if I choose to not format, i have an error message DATA ERROR (CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK).**This does not seem to be an issue regarding only the WD drives but all drives**Called WD tech, and it was useless. When I start/restart my computer and connected the usb cable into laptop, it shows the icon on bottom taskbar (safely remove hardware and when clicked on the usb icon, I see "open Devices & Printers and Eject USB to IDE bridge), but I can't see my drive at all when I click on "my computer"? I can only see it under "right click Computer, Manage, Device Manger, Disk Drives," it only says; "generic USB Disk USB Device". And when I expanded the USB controllers via Device Manager, I can see it under USB Mass Storage Device. I found it quite odd because BIOS detected it as IDE driver, and it's a SATA driver. I tried to install with old Window XP installation CD. Same thing, doesn't show on the window XP installation screen either.
I tried to hook hard drive on other computer, and was testing with Window 7 XD and see if it was working, and it did. It shown on the disk screen. My guess that it's probably the BIOS that occurred, or perhaps other things. I have one hard drive, nothing more.
Windows 7 won't recognise my DVD Drive on my HP Pavilion dv6000 Laptop. Works ok on start up, but as soon as Windows 7 starts it stops working.
