I am running windows 7 (64bit) IE 8. Now for some unknown reason to me when I click on my favorites tab it's showing programs instead of my favorites. All my bookmarks are still in my fav folder but I don't understand how this has happened.

View 2 Replies View RelatedReformatted & added Win 7 to #2 PC. I imported "my Favorites" from internet explorer by FF browser, bookmarks > Import & Backup. The favorites from i.e. were mostly held in 20 folders with sub folders then the rest, loose individual sites. The entire list - folders & loose sites now appear in the Private folder config: START > AaLF personal folder > Favorites. But in the firefox browser, I now see only half the folders from i.e. and also not the loose individual sites. How do I get My Personal Folder Favorites into FF's Bookmarks for easy use??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and I've recently run into a problem that I cannot really seem to find the solution for on here or on the Internet. (I realize this may take a while to read, but sorry, but I want to be sure to describe every detail of my problem that I can, if you would be kind enough to read this all I would be very grateful)I had recently built my own PC, and everything was running perfectly fine for a while, until a week ago, where after having downloaded music from a trusted music downloading program, Rhapsody, I had tried playing this music, but windows media player required me to restart my computer to play these music files for some odd reason. Well after the restart, I noticed that every installed program on my E: drive (Steam, Ventrilo, the many games I had installed on and not on Steam...) would prompt me with the "Do you want to open this file" warning, which is odd because I'm an administrator and UAC is turned off for me. These programs then, even if I opened the .exe in the folder that they were installed on, would not run, and no matter how I runned them (as admin, in compatibility mode), these programs would not work. On my Computer, I have Windows installed on an SSD(C: drive), and most of my games/programs on an HDD (E: ).I tried to re-install steam, ventrilo, etc. but this did not work because these programs said something along the lines of not being able to write/create a key. I thought the problem seemed to have stemmed towards some error in my registry, but in regedit everything seemed to say that I have full control on these files, so I did not believe it was some permissions/registry error.files (nor how to even start searching for this kind of problem!) and decided to reboot from a system image; no dice, that did not fix my problem either. The one thing I noticed, however, is that ONLY the programs on my E: drive didn't work. If I moved a program such as ventrilo to C:, it worked with no problems. Now I cannot move all my games and programs to my SSD, because it's only 128 GB and I own a LOT of games, and I did not want my 1TB HDD to go to waste, so as a last resort, I did a complete reformat of my HDD, and now everything worked perfectly fine, all my music, games, programs worked, I had no more problems, until today at least.For reasons that I deem unnecessary to go into, I needed to use Internet Explorer (I usually use chrome to browse the web) to open a .gif that I had saved to my HDD. For some reason, because I opened internet explorer, the same problem as before came back, but the only programs affected are the programs that I had put on the "favorites" tab in Windows Explorer! Every program not listed on this tab works, but the programs I had put on there (Steam, Chrome, Avast!) don't work now (or I get the same "do you want to open this file" security warning), even if they are installed on my C: drive; The same problems seem to have come back.But, oddly enough, when I open Chrome or Avast from the .exe in their installed folders, they work perfectly fine, if I run them as an administrator, they work perfectly fine, but if I try to open their shortcuts from the desktop or from the favorites tab, I get the "do you want to run this file" security warning. Steam, nor any of my games installed on or not on Steam don't work no matter where I try to open them, I've tried re-installing steam, but as before it now cannot "create a key" upon start-up. I also tried deleting these shortcuts off my desktop and off the favorites tab, but programs such as Steam and my Games will not run now.I am truly baffled to as to why this is happening to me again, every thing seems to have gone haywire all because I opened Internet Explorer to view a .gif. I tried to uninstall IE as well, but that still hasn't fixed anything.even if it is just identifying the problem that I have, I would be very grateful, as I do not want to have to reformat my entire HDD again, I want to try and get to the bottom of this problem because I have a bad feeling that these problems will reoccur again and again if I don't fix it.

View 1 Replies View Relatedeen running Windows since 3.0, and am fairly comfortable poking around with anything under the hood. I've just bought my first Windows 7 computer, and it has me scratching my head on a few issues. I've done a search of the forums, but had no luck with one specific issue.I'm running Home Premium, and I have My Admin account and 2 separate user accounts. I install all programs using the Admin account. Some programs, such as Office 2010 and Adobe Reader, installed easily with the programs listed under each user's "All Programs" area on the start menu. Other programs installed and showed up under Admin's "All Programs", but will not show up in the other users' "All Programs". None of these programs asked if I wanted to install for just the active user account or for all accounts, they just installed.
I can still run these programs by doing a search and executing, so I have access to them. I know I can create shortcuts or pin them to the taskbar, but I really don't like the clutter. How can get these programs to show up under "All Programs" for all users?
recently any programs I minimize won't show up on the taskbar, but if I alt-tab it'll show back up. I tried google for answers but I could not find anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently did a new custom build and am having some problems with programs not showing up. I am used to Windows 7 Ultimate but for my new computer I selected Windows 7 Professional (little bit cheaper but I am seeing why). I have installed a couple of programs that do not show up in my start menu. Most notably Windows Live Essentials 2011. Windows live mesh shows up but not windows live mail or Windows live messenger. I have been able to go into the folder and create a shortcut to my desktop and add that to my start menu but I am finding that the more that I install the more that just seem to vanish. I have installed Logitech webcam software and it again is no where to be found besides the installation/program folder the only one showing up in the start menu or desktop is the Logitech vid program. Reason for my question: Is there a way to change the settings on Professional to match the out of the box settings on Ultimate? Basically when I install a program I would like to have it show up as an item in my start menu and not have to be found somewhere in my Programs files.
Also, when I redirect my libraries to my storage drive they like to appear as hidden folders. I then have to go into my folder options and set the option to always view hidden folders. I would prefer this not to be the case.
I'm having a bit of an odd problem with the "Recent Items" menu on the start menu. I have found many google searches on this topic but none that answer my particular question. the question I have is simple can I set it up so that the recent items menu only shows recently opened documents and pics and NOT recently used programs? Recently used programs just clutter up the list and feat the purpose of it being there at all as I have quick launch icons for the programs I use frequently. I'd like the recent Items list to function the way the recent documents list did in vista, as this is ALOT more useful and it only included recent documents and pcitures, not programs. The idea is that I have a short cut to documents I am using frequently without having to go the long route of locating them on my computer to opent them.

After the compatibility checkup is complete I see a message saying that Kaspersky Anti Virus is either preventing or will damage the installation during upgrade and it will not let me continue until I have "uninstalled it from my system".
However I've never even heard of the program until today and there's no trace of it on my system.
I open a program and it opens on the monitor. I think restore the size, rather than having in maximum size.
The program disappears, but is still in the task bar. I click on the program icon in the task bar to make it appear in the monitor, but the program shows to open on a non-existent monitor on the left of my monitor.
I have checked Display adapters in Device Manager and they are working ok. I have checked Control PanelDisplayChange Display Settings and all looks ok.
Everything has worked find until recently. No real changes, however I suspect Microsoft Windows 7 is doing some dirty tricks after I have made multiple complaints about their poor customer support on the phones.

I cannot add a .eml extension to Default Programs so I can associate a program to go with it. The .eml extension does show in the Indexing list, but not in the Default Programs list. How it can be added to the Default Programs, and if so how can I do it and would I associate Windows Live Mail with it??? I have missed quite a few mails because of this problem.

View 1 Replies View Relatedthe last hour I was organizing all my bookmarks on Firefox 5 into folders and sub- folders.I had to do a lot of copying and pasting, and I noticed firefox was not responding everytime I copied or pasted.for example I was copying and pasting folder with thousands of bookmarks(2000-12K)And it wasn't fast! I am quite disappointed with the performance. Not only that, but after I finished copying when I selected one of the bookmarks in the folder, it was not responsive for a few seconds.copying, pasting, and selecting took between 10s to 1m!!! This is a lot of time to wait just to move bookmarks around!

With IE, I have to import to favorites bar and then rearrange them alphabetically. I use Chrome and FF, but IE9 more. And this is just a killer, as I am always adding bookmarks.
View 9 Replies View RelatedUsing Win 7 x64 and Firefox 4 with a Dell 23.5" LCD monitor, I randomly see Firefox bookmarks (1 or 2 bookmarks) appearing in the area at the bottom of the screen where the Firefox add-ons are shown (one add-on currently - "Ad Block Plus" - so the red stop sign shows) and blending into the taskbar/quick launch tool bar. These random bookmarks show up about centered on the width of the screen.If I click anywhere in the Taskbar/quick launch tool bar, the shown bookmarks vanish.
