Ok so I have been having issues with my icons for programs in my documents and on desktop resetting back to that little white piece of paper with boxes on it. Im on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Just wanted to know if there was a fix. (mostly happening with .exe/shortcuts)

When I open taskbar properities and select customize the page opens for a 1/2 second and then closes. I have run a antivirus and malware progam and everything came back ok.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently patched 3 dlls (themeui.dll, uxtheme.dll and themeservice.dll) to use 3rd party themes using Universal Theme Patcher and now alot of my icons show up as white pages... My .exe files now show up blank, and most of my shortcuts do too. Does anyone know how to fix it? I've also restored the original dlls and it still won't work for some reason...
View 5 Replies View RelatedRecently I noticed that two unknown icons now show up in my system tray, having icon graphics of "A" "9". Double clicking on them, right-clicking, or simply hovering my mouse over them unfortunately does nothing -- I don't know what they are. I'm concerned they could be something malicious. Please see the attached screenshot that shows these 2 icons. I've also attached another screenshot showing all processes in the Task Manager.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy hubby is running Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit on an Emachines PC.
Intermittently picture thumbnails and program icons will suddenly stop showing up and will turn to only blank white icons. (Sometimes it affects a few files or the whole folder) You can see the thumbnails one minute, go out and back into the directory, and they are gone. Refreshing the folder view does not bring the thumbs back.
Going into other folders is fine and thumbnails show, but once it fails on a particular folder, it will continue to NOT show thumbs or icons for that folder until a restart is done. We have also tried to clean the thumbnails cache to no avail. This problem happens on all drives, flash drives, network drives, local drives, etc...)
There is one other bug that may be related. Sometimes his My Computer will not load. He can get to My Documents etc... but My Computer hangs forever until he restarts. It is an intermittent problem as well so hard to debug.
I have been noticing a strange problem with my Win 7 64bit. It does not happen every day, maybe once a week or so.
When I boot up the system and the desktop loads, I noticed that all (6 ) of my security (AVG, ZA, SpyBot etc.) program icons in the system tray notification area (next to the clock) don't load. (Program tray .exe files are not being loaded on start-up) I get the network, power, volume icons but nothing else. I should see 6 icons for my security and other start up programs I have loaded, but they don't show. I have to reboot the system three or four times before the tray icons will show. I also have to do a defrag to fix the problem as well. The system works fine otherwise. The security programs run fine when they are loaded, so they are not the problem.
Like I said, the problem of "missing system tray icons" only happens once a week or so. YES I DO have tray notification set to ON. (That is the first place I looked) So that is not the problem. I tried logging off and back on as administrator. Did not work.

Just upgraded WIndows Vista to Windows 7 from a download. The installation appeared to be fine but all of the icons on the desktop have lost their pictures and none of the start menu icons are showing any design nor do they work. I've tried deleting the icon cache and restarting but that hasn't worked.

I've just bought a new PC which has Windows 7 installed so just finding my way about! My old PC was running XP and all my program shortcuts in the Quick Launch Toolbar had relevant icons on them. However, although some shortcuts I've put on my 7 QLT have appeared with the relevant icons, for instance FF and TB, 3 other programmes have just come up as blank cream coloured folders. So is there a way to get the proper icons instead of the blanks?

I've just bought my first Windows 7 computer, and it has me scratching my head on a few issues. I've done a search of the forums, but had no luck with one specific issue.I'm running Home Premium, and I have My Admin account and 2 separate user accounts. I install all programs using the Admin account. Some programs, such as Office 2010 and Adobe Reader, installed easily with the programs listed under each user's "All Programs" area on the start menu. Other programs installed and showed up under Admin's "All Programs", but will not show up in the other users' "All Programs". None of these programs asked if I wanted to install for just the active user account or for all accounts, they just installed.
I can still run these programs by doing a search and executing, so I have access to them. I know I can create shortcuts or pin them to the taskbar, but I really don't like the clutter. How can get these programs to show up under "All Programs" for all users?

I am used to Windows 7 Ultimate but for my new computer I selected Windows 7 Professional (little bit cheaper but I am seeing why). I have installed a couple of programs that do not show up in my start menu. Most notably Windows Live Essentials 2011. Windows live mesh shows up but not windows live mail or Windows live messenger. I have been able to go into the folder and create a shortcut to my desktop and add that to my start menu but I am finding that the more that I install the more that just seem to vanish. I have installed Logitech webcam software and it again is no where to be found besides the installation/program folder the only one showing up in the start menu or desktop is the Logitech vid program. Reason for my question: Is there a way to change the settings on Professional to match the out of the box settings on Ultimate? Basically when I install a program I would like to have it show up as an item in my start menu and not have to be found somewhere in my Programs files.
Also, when I redirect my libraries to my storage drive they like to appear as hidden folders. I then have to go into my folder options and set the option to always view hidden folders. I would prefer this not to be the case.
I'm having a bit of an odd problem with the "Recent Items" menu on the start menu. I have found many google searches on this topic but none that answer my particular question. the question I have is simple can I set it up so that the recent items menu only shows recently opened documents and pics and NOT recently used programs? Recently used programs just clutter up the list and feat the purpose of it being there at all as I have quick launch icons for the programs I use frequently. I'd like the recent Items list to function the way the recent documents list did in vista, as this is ALOT more useful and it only included recent documents and pcitures, not programs. The idea is that I have a short cut to documents I am using frequently without having to go the long route of locating them on my computer to opent them.

After the compatibility checkup is complete I see a message saying that Kaspersky Anti Virus is either preventing or will damage the installation during upgrade and it will not let me continue until I have "uninstalled it from my system".
However I've never even heard of the program until today and there's no trace of it on my system.
The programs I cannot change are skype, my documents, my pictures, my downloads and my music. I am also using windows 7 home 64 bit. I just need to know how to fix Skype now.

Yesterday, I installed 7077 and some of the programs I installed afterwards lost their icons.
Ie. all .DOC files lost their Word icon even though they are still associated with Word, PaintShopPro Startmenu shortcut reverted to the same default icon as .doc files. What is going on?
Used the universal theme patcher, to use themes from Deviantart etc. Got it working fine but some of my programs have no icons o_O, Ventrilo has none, GPU-Z, Battlefield 3, etc. They all show up with that icon that windows uses when it doesnt have one, Any way I can fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI open a program and it opens on the monitor. I think restore the size, rather than having in maximum size.
The program disappears, but is still in the task bar. I click on the program icon in the task bar to make it appear in the monitor, but the program shows to open on a non-existent monitor on the left of my monitor.
I have checked Display adapters in Device Manager and they are working ok. I have checked Control PanelDisplayChange Display Settings and all looks ok.
Everything has worked find until recently. No real changes, however I suspect Microsoft Windows 7 is doing some dirty tricks after I have made multiple complaints about their poor customer support on the phones.

ive recently re-installed windows 7 64-bit on our laptop and since i have 2 programs I installed (Dreamweaver CS5 and Foobar2000) have not had an image/picture for their icons.They just show the default image for exe (a blank sheet of paper with a window inside)why does this happen? ive installed many other apps that have been fine - I fixed Dreamweaver with an app but i forgot what it was--summit to allows to change icons in EXE files.
