All of a sudden running programs that I have minimized no longer have an icon on the task bar so that I can open them up when needed. I have to go to the task manager to get to them. Not sure what I did but I can't seem to get them to display on the task bar again.
View 4 RepliesI did an upgrade from Vista Ultimate to 7077 ultimate..Everything went smoothly with only one or two uncompatible programs. when I click on Start | All Programs every one of my installed programs icons are missing. I have to search for the program to start it and pin it to the taskbar if I want to keep it accessible.I've tried a few registry hacks, security settings and even tried to copy some shortcuts over. I also tried restoring all the default shortcuts to the C:UsersMYUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu - You can see in the screenshot only a few items have shown up.I've tried creating a new admin account and the problem is repeated there as well..No program icons in the All Programs Menu. My version is activated.

It's really anoying...What could the problem be?I use 1920x1080 in desktop and in games for example.And if i play Heroes of Newerth and i alt-tab, IE appears in the background of Heroes of Newerth and i can still see it beeing in the background. I tried differented "fullscreen/windowed mode" stuff there, but no difference.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have three computers, one desktop (what my listed specs are for), a laptop, and a netbook. Each are running some version of Windows 7 (Ultimate x64, Home x64, Home x86). On each computer, if I minimize a connected AIM, Yahoo, or MSN account.. Also any Telnet connected windows/Telnet based platforms that are currently connected to a server.. After a good 2-4 minutes of being minimized, all programs are disconnected. At first I thought it was an internet problem, but that isn't the case (program(s) run fine without any hiccups as long as its an active window).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 on new computer. Some programs start up minimized most of the time - but not always. At least Mozilla Thunderbird and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 keep doing that to name a few. The shortcut properties have "Run" as "Normal window" for both programs. I think I've also tried closing them with Ctrl pressed as suggested somewhere.
As for other similar problems, I get occasional problems with opening windows from the taskbar groups. The window shows up nicely when hovering over the thumbnail picture of the taskbar group, but when I select it, it just flashes on the top and then disappears / goes back behind other windows. Alt-tabbing seems to work flawlessly, but it'd be nice to be able to use the taskbar too.
I've noticed later that Alt-Tabbing doesn't work always either. They suggested me to try and pin software to taskbar at bleeping computer. Both Thunderbird and Premiere have started normally when launched with the pinned icon instead of the desktop shortcuts. That's not the real solution though and the problem remains at least with Windows Media Player. It goes often minimized when launched by double clicking a video file on explorer.
I did a search on your site and found Toasty's post (Programs start Minimized, will *NOT* maximize.). Also it said in some post that you should press Alt when closing. I'll try that next time the problem occurs, but I doubt it's the solution as the programs sometimes open normally and sometimes don't. Either way there's also the problem with the taskbar...
So, I wake up today and BitDefender scans and detects some virus'. During this time, I'm getting a few prompts which I close. At one point, I click the windows logo AKA start button, then go to All Programs and I notice that my list is pretty much empty. At first, my C:Program Files also wasn't showing up. I guess the virus hid those files, because they showed up once I unhid them via the folder options.Luckily, I think I may have been able to get rid of the irus/trojan/malware/whatever. I'm still going to be running scans, butunfortunately I have to work from my computer at the same time. I can go to into C:Program Files to find programs I want to use and start them up, but I would much prefer they appear in the "All Programs" listing.Windows 7 - Home Basic 64-bit
View 8 Replies View RelatedSome of the icons normally showing what a program type is are missing now. I HAVE all the DESKTOP icons and those in the system tray. But in Windows Explorer lists or in Word Perfect and Word lists of file names, many of the small icons that normally appear next to a program's name, or showing what type of document or file it is, are now missing. Not all, just some. I have mostly open square boxes. It doesn't matter whether I'm looking at a list of files I've created, or looking at the items in various system folders: most are just empty open squares instead of the individual icons. I have Windows 7 64-bit OS , both Mozilla 17 and IE9 browsers.

Ie. all .DOC files lost their Word icon even though they are still associated with Word, PaintShopPro Startmenu shortcut reverted to the same default icon as .doc files. What is going on?
Used the universal theme patcher, to use themes from Deviantart etc. Got it working fine but some of my programs have no icons o_O, Ventrilo has none, GPU-Z, Battlefield 3, etc. They all show up with that icon that windows uses when it doesnt have one, Any way I can fix this?

Apparently I turned off something that I need but don't know what it is to turn it back on.Now when I boot up, I get my wallpaper on my desktop....but no shortcut icons. They come up when I right click the desk top.

View 14 Replies View Relatedmy system is a dell desktop running windows 7 64-bit home premium. i have 8 gb ram, and a 2.8 ghz intel core i7 processor. i was fooling around with windows backup and restore and i created a new user account. i rebooted and noticed that in my primary user account, the one i always use (not the new one), a good portion of my desktop icons had disappeared. i also noticed that in the new account i created, only 1 of the many desktop icons displayed. most, if not all, of the disappeared icons are shortcuts to applications such as vmware, itunes, Internet downloader, etc. but these applications are still there within the start menu under "all programs". unfortunately, i'm not sure exactly how long the missing icons have been gone. i just noticed the problem a few days ago.all the previous versions of my desktop folder, dating back to last july, seem to contain only the shortcuts that display now, not the missing icons, and i'm pretty sure that all the icons were present back then. it doesn't make sense. how could all the icons display if they weren't in the desktop folder to begin with? i have no idea of how i could have deleted only some of the shortcuts either. i realize i could just recreate the shortcuts on the desktop, but something weird happened here, and i'd like to know what it is. also, there is one icon that displays that isn't in the desktop folder but is in the "links" folder. it's a dvd-making application called corel windvd 2010.
i tried rebuilding the icon cache and it didn't bring back the missing icons. all it did was change my corel video studio application icon from a generic one to the little camera logo like it's supposed to be. there are still no icons displayed on the desktop of the new user account that i created, except for the corel windvd 2010 one and a gadget for my corel video studio pro x application (it's a movie editing software package). strangely, the gadget does appear in the new user account and so does the corel windvd 2010 icon.i have a screenshot of my desktop from before the icons disappeared and from that i can see that about 18 icons disappeared. furthermore, the default desktop folder doesn't contain any shortcuts either, which probably explains why no icons appear in the new account i created. shouldn't the default desktop folder contain the shortcuts?i tried running a microsoft utility that's supposed to fix broken desktop shortcuts but that didn't fix the problem. are there any other locations that might contain the missing icons other than just the "desktop" and "links" folders? perhaps within the registry or something?

After reading that its not secure and is a best practice to create a second account for daily use I did that. I created the 2nd account with Administrative Rights, then reduced permissions to the first. However, I see that very few programs are available on the desktop of the newly created desktop. I want to share Chrome, AOE3 etc. for all users.Any ideas, am I missing something. I shouldn't have to reinstall all to the 2nd desktop right?

However the icons I put there from Tools function ie Delete columns, font size, copy, cut etc have all disappeared I tried to reinstalling them by going to Tools � Custom-. When I try to select an icon for example Edit � copy or even delete column arrow and try to move it up to the tool bar on top of the page it will not work.
