HowTo Stop Windows 7 From Growing Over Drive C

Aug 8, 2010

How can I stop Windows 7 from growing all over drive C! It starts out as a nice small install, add a few extras, then a month later 40gb is gone! its mostly growing in the appdata folder and other temp area's its most annoying, I ask this as I am looking at using Windows 7 on my latest CarPC install instead of XP, although I must admit i prefer XP as I was looking at using HORM and have a fast booting system (Hibernate Once Resume Many)(can 7 do that. So, can I set up the system with a drive C, and a drive D, and shuffle the paths/environment variables to make all the annoying stuff grow on D, that way when I back up drive C its not going to keep making my backups get bigger and bigger every week

HowTo Do Repair Install

Oct 9, 2009

I have done severs 'Repair Installs' under Windows XP. Usually because of changing a mother board. I have seen several suggestions in this forum to others advising them to do a 'Repair Install' of Windows 7 to correct a problem. I didn't want to hijack the threads to ask exactly how you do that so I will start a new thread to find out how to do it. I have booted the RC CD several times to see if I could find a way but the closest I can come is to find a item to repair a problem that prevents your computer from starting or something like that. As I understand it, that option has more to do with solving boot manager problems that actually repairing any problem Windows 7 files.

Stop Windows From Trying To Scan External Drive?

How can I stop Windows from asking whether I want to scan and fix an external drive, whenever I turn on that external drive. It gives me the choice to scan and fix or continue without scanning. The annoyance is that when I turn on the external drive, I may be doing something else and the notification will pop up or rather pop under all the other programs and windows I may have open and won't see the notification until I click on the taskbar and Windows Explorer is waiting for some response

Un-repairable STOP: 7B Error Following Using A Faulty USB Drive?

Jun 3, 2012

I recently plugged in a Corsair Voyager USB stick which turned out to be faulty. As part of confirming this (after not being able to access it in Windows) I checked if it was visible in the BIOS which it was but seems to be dead. I removed the Voyager drive but upon the restart Windows failed to load, it gets to the load screen and just as the animation starts it BSODs for 0.5 of a second and then restarts. It does this without fail in safe mode and does the same with the HDD plugged into another PC.Nothing in the Recovery Console fixes the problem, CHKDSK says there are no issues, for some reason Sys Restore isn't functioning in the RC etc etc. I managed to get the stop code:stop: 0x0000007B (0xFFFFF880009A98E8,0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)This suggests to me that there is probably an issue with the SATA / chipset drivers and I can only assume that they have somehow been corrupted when Windows was trying to detect the faulty USB stick. I know that SATA drivers can be installed separately on a Win install but surely you can also re-load them or load default drivers in the Recovery Console from either the Windows 7 disk or chipset drivers from another location

Stop Creating File.db And Recent.db On USB Drive?

Jan 12, 2013

When I plug in a USB flash drive, it's creating 2 files: file.db and recent.db These database files will open in notepad. File.db seems to be a list of all files on the flash drive and recent.db is a list of recently accessed files on the drive. If I delete them, it just recreates them. I don't see similar files on my C drive. Also, my work computer running Windows 7 Enterprise does not create them when I insert a USB drive. As a matter of privacy, I'd rather not have lists of my files on the drives.

BSOD STOP 0x000000F4 - Does Not Find Primary Hard Drive After Restart

Aug 8, 2012

I'm having an BSOD error, and it also refuses to write a minidump and kerneldump. So I can`t use any analysis tools. And yes, it's enabled!

After restart it sometimes does not find the primary hard drive. The error pops up from time to time. Sometimes from browsing the web, downloading or playing a game. It even pops up while I`m not doing anything at all. I did a checkdisk and it turned out clean.

Windows 7 Backup Won't Stop

Jan 15, 2013

My laptop won't stop trying to do a backup (it's the first backup ever on this laptop) - for the last couple days the little flag in the system tray keeps coming up, after a minute or so of starting up my laptop, saying it's doing a backup (which is slowing it down incredibly). But when click on the backup message and try to open it, it opens up the box which only comes up with the title "backup and restore" and nothing else appears so I can't stop it that way. Even when I go into control panel to try and open it that way, it's the same.I've also gone into services and disabled it that way, but this hasn't worked either. I've also tried the "SFC /Scannow" method but it also doesn't work - the black command box flashes up for a second and disappears immediately every time I've tried it.

How To Stop Windows 7 From Nagging Me Redundantly-Ref UAC

Jul 14, 2012

M$ has stripped-down Win 7 so much, it's nearly impossible use it effectively. Many features which used to allow users control over their own system have been removed.I want to know how to stop Windows 7 from displaying its irritating "User Account Control" pop-up redundantly, every time I click on a program listed in my "Start" list. The only way M$ offers users to stop the nag dialog is to lower the "User Account Control Settings" to a lower ("not recommended") setting, FOR ALL PROGRAMS!It does NOT require me to answer any question when I click on the icon in the Taskbar for the exact same program! I'm referring, for example, when I want to run either Windows Explorer 32-bit or Windows Explorer 64-bit. And, I have 1/2-dozen other programs in my list that I use many times daily. Many of them won't open without M$ asking me "if I want to open it!" Of course I do! I installed it/them so I could use it/them regularly -- any time I want to!!If possible, how can I configure this OS to stop nagging me redundantly when I want to run (my) installed programs which I use on a regular basis? My system:

* OS: Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit
* M$ stuck me with its beta IE 9 browser (both 64-bit and 32-bit), although I didn't want it! Now, I can't get rid of it. Typical M$.

STOP: 0x0000007 After Windows Logo

Aug 2, 2012

I have recently purchased an i7 Ivybridge, Corsair Vengeance 8GB and Asus Z68 to upgrade my home built PC. Today, after assembling the parts, the usual splash screens show up all the way up to the windows logo. After windows finishes loading, a STOP: 0x0000007B error prevents me from going further. I have attempted to restore to 2 days previously with no effect and startup repair cannot solve the issue. When using my old motherboard, windows starts normally. Diagnosis and repair details state the Root cause as 'Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem'.

EDIT: Switched ACHI to IDE in BIOS. This allows me to reach the login screen but I am unable to use mouse & keyboard.

Getting STOP 0x0000007B When Starting Windows 7

Dec 15, 2012

Recently, I've been getting a lot of BSODs and I've been trying to find what may cause them. I used the Device Manager and disabled a couple of devices. I've probably disabled a necessary device, and now when I'm booting my PC, it's getting to the point when it shows the Windows 7 logo, and then restarts, and so it gets into an endless restart loop.I then pressed F8 to try get into Safe Mode, but Safe Mode is not working as well. So I then pressed F8 when starting Windows again and chose "Disable automatic restart on system failure" to see what error code is being thrown. It shows the following: Code: *** STOP: 0x0000007B (...) Unfortunately I don't think I can get dump file because Windows is not working at all, but I have a very good assumption that I disabled a critical device in the Device Manager. Here is the list of devices that I've disabled: Code: Acronis Backup Archive Explorer Floppy disk drive (don't have any floppy disk drive)Standard floppy disk controller (same thing as above)High Definition Audio Device PCI bus (*I think the problem is here and is related to the on-board graphics card. I think It's an Intel graphics or something like this.) My question is: is there any way to somehow enable this PCI bus device from anywhere?

Windows 7 BSOD Stop Code 124?

Apr 13, 2012

what this following error code means? I'm guessing it's some kind of hardware failure but I can't figure out what. I bought a new western digital caviar black 1TB hard drive, installed it with Sata cables and installed Windows 7 ultimate on it and it worked fine for a couple of days. All of a sudden today I get this error. I should mention that the reason why I decided to replace the hard drive is because my other hard drive(s) were fine until one of their sata cable broke in half and even tho I replaced the sata cables on those drives they still won't boot and would cause BSOD's. So, I decided to buy a new drive and new cables and try it.

Technical information:***Stop: 0x00000124 (0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFFA8005B3E028, 0X00000000B2000000, 0X000000000004008F)
