My laptop won't stop trying to do a backup (it's the first backup ever on this laptop) - for the last couple days the little flag in the system tray keeps coming up, after a minute or so of starting up my laptop, saying it's doing a backup (which is slowing it down incredibly). But when click on the backup message and try to open it, it opens up the box which only comes up with the title "backup and restore" and nothing else appears so I can't stop it that way. Even when I go into control panel to try and open it that way, it's the same.I've also gone into services and disabled it that way, but this hasn't worked either. I've also tried the "SFC /Scannow" method but it also doesn't work - the black command box flashes up for a second and disappears immediately every time I've tried it.
When you wish to recover your system using this utility, do you use the Windows program at desktop or the rescue disc I created from the program?The reasn I ask is because I used to have better luck using Acronis' disc rather than the program and wonderd if the same applied here.Also, does the backup remove the existing one so that you only have one at a time or can you have more than one.
I backup 100GB of data with Windows Backup and over the time where I do all my backups there is like only 30GB of data which changed from those 100GB and also new files were added. Now my external drive is full. When I now delete the very early backup, the first one where the 100GB of data was saved, will it delete then ALL those 100 GB, or will it just delete the previous versions of the files which were modified AFTER that time, which are in this case the 30GB I talked about? Because otherwhise I would then have in the end an uncomplete, messed up backup.
I currently use Vista Ultimate. I am preparing to move to Windows 7. Is it possible to restore files from Vista Backup and Restore Center to Windows 7 after a clean install?
I'm using Win 7 Pro and want to schedule several backups to my NAS. With Win XP, I was able to schedule multiple backup jobs, which makes things easier since I have 116 GB of data. I like to backup my documents, email files, etc. every week, but my photos, MP3s, etc. don't change as frequently so once a month is fine for that. Not surprisingly, the media collection takes much longer to backup, which is another reason I try to separate it from my "regular" backup.Unfortunately, Win 7 backup only seems to allow one backup job to be scheduled, which seems awfully limited. Am I missing something? Are there other free backup utilities that would work better, or do I need to shell out some cash?
Currently my PC is set just they way I like so I thought I'd do a backup, the idea being that should something go wrong then I can just use that backup (on DVD's) to do restore my PC to the 'now' settings.
I created an image using the Microsoft Backup and Restore tool in Windows 7. I saved the image on a network shared folder.I then went to the Advanced Recovery Methods in Windows to restore my image...that I just created. It restarts the computer and goes into recovery mode, I point to where the image is located, I entered the network credentials and it give me an error. "The Specified network resource or device is no longer available. (0x80070037)"
Any simple backup program that is capable of backing up large files incrementally by splitting the file and backing up only changed parts of the file? The files I'm talking about are files that get altered by appending stuff at the end of the file, e.g. log files or mailbox files, so it's generally possible to split a new version of the file at the exact point where the old version stopped, purely by file size.
Specifically, I want to back up Thunderbird and SeaMonkey mailboxes without having to create additional subfolders within those programs. I understand that if something had changed near the beginning of the file, then the whole file will have to be backed up, unless the backup program is capable of some very clever searching, but mostly the files will change only by having data appended to it.
Which backup software to backup Pictures/Documents/Videos so that when you do a fresh install you don't loose anything.apart from your programs of course, just the documents backed up what do you use?
I'm running Windows 7 64x Home Premium on a Toshiba Qosmio X505 laptop. I just got it back from the warranty repair center, where they replaced the hard drive and graphics fan & heatsink, and reloaded the factory windows version. Before I sent it out for repair, I used Windows Backup to create a backup of all my files on a Toshiba casio 500GB external USB drive (I had over 300 GB of files, so it was easier to use Windows Backup than drag and drop all the files, at least at the time). Now that I have the laptop back, I'm having trouble restoring my files. When I go to Control Panel-> Backup & Restore, a message appears in the restore section, saying "Windows could not find a backup for this computer." I've tried reconnecting the drive as well as restarting my computer, but to no avail. I can see and explore the files in My Computer, so I know the hard drive is properly connected.
Is there way I can change the location of the backup files location using the Win7 Backup Manager? Right now it just shows me the location for a USB port. I would like to use a Home Group Location.
I have a Win7 64-bit system and have been successfully using Windows backup on an approximately monthly basis. I ran it before going to bed last night and woke up to a "The backup failed." when I tried to create a system image of both of my hard discs. The error is "Incorrect function. (0x80070001)". I found a workaround solution at Windows backup or restore errors 0x80070001, 0x81000037, or 0x80070003 and looked up and found a number of "junction points", most rooted at c:UsersDilipAppData - but the problem is that there is no such folder.
I'm trying to backup Windows 7 to an external HD that currently is used to backup mac.eed to do to make this happen? I'm sure I'll have to format the ext HD then backup the mac using a different file format, but am unsure just what I'll have to do or how to do it.

Having a BSOD error on boot and simply put MS support says it is a RAM issue and when I run any other diag it says HDD issue.History is the machine suffered the fake hard disk errors bug a few months ago and we thought we removed that completely, then a few days ago the pc did an update and after auto restart has not worked the same.The machine boots fine till it gets to starting windows and then BSOD.Have tried /mbr - replaced fine but no difference?Have tried AVG Boot drive and scan - Found a few sus files and removed them still no difference?Have tried chkdsk /r - this found no errors Also cannot boot in any of the modes at all?
I have tasks that I need to keep running while I am away from the computer and they are getting locked up and not running everytime Windows 7 logs me out after 10-15 minutes or so.
how to stop Windows 7 from automatically logging you out? So I can stay logged in?

I am using Windows 7 Professional.I am playing the songs and about minutes later it becomes standby automatically so it's the interruption of my watching, especially when there is no touching. What must I do to keep it active though I am not touching any keys or mouse?
My main problem is I have a BD movie player that keeps reacting badly to windows updates. Yes I turned it completely off and did not have it connected to the net but somehow it found 1 rouge update that when I had no choice but turn it off it installed it. I have always hated updates but never has it caused me this much grief.
There's a multiseat software on my computer, that's a trial edition (friendlyseats). It's a perfect free edition... except for the fact it restarts the computer every 30mins or so... is there a way to prevent all programs from restarting my computer?
I have a dell Inspiron n4010 it had Trojan viruses on it so I did an reinstall from the recovery partition now windows 7 will not boot I get a flash of the blue screen of death with a stop error 0x0000007b I can't get in to windows to check anything. I no longer have the dell disks that came with the comp. I have tried to reinstall from the partition 3 times and no luck
I install most Windows 7 updates, but I am not ready to go to IE9.But every time I turn on my laptop I get a notification of a "new" update avaialable, that ends up being for the IE9 I keep declining.How do I stop Windows Update from notifing me on specific updates I want to decline.
M$ has stripped-down Win 7 so much, it's nearly impossible use it effectively. Many features which used to allow users control over their own system have been removed.I want to know how to stop Windows 7 from displaying its irritating "User Account Control" pop-up redundantly, every time I click on a program listed in my "Start" list. The only way M$ offers users to stop the nag dialog is to lower the "User Account Control Settings" to a lower ("not recommended") setting, FOR ALL PROGRAMS!It does NOT require me to answer any question when I click on the icon in the Taskbar for the exact same program! I'm referring, for example, when I want to run either Windows Explorer 32-bit or Windows Explorer 64-bit. And, I have 1/2-dozen other programs in my list that I use many times daily. Many of them won't open without M$ asking me "if I want to open it!" Of course I do! I installed it/them so I could use it/them regularly -- any time I want to!!If possible, how can I configure this OS to stop nagging me redundantly when I want to run (my) installed programs which I use on a regular basis? When i shut down my pc,it shuts down with no problem,but when i restart it,windows begins to load it and suddenly it stops.I need to turn off my pc for 5 mins,then it loads windows correctly.I can never restart my pc.The problem is not about windows 7,i had just change from xp.I was having the same problem with windows xp.Everything else is good in my pc,just i'm having this problem.
I have recently purchased an i7 Ivybridge, Corsair Vengeance 8GB and Asus Z68 to upgrade my home built PC. Today, after assembling the parts, the usual splash screens show up all the way up to the windows logo. After windows finishes loading, a STOP: 0x0000007B error prevents me from going further. I have attempted to restore to 2 days previously with no effect and startup repair cannot solve the issue. When using my old motherboard, windows starts normally. Diagnosis and repair details state the Root cause as 'Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem'.
EDIT: Switched ACHI to IDE in BIOS. This allows me to reach the login screen but I am unable to use mouse & keyboard.
