I just installed accidentally windows 7 ultimate using the D back up drive. I am now getting message that my D drive is almost full and need to delete files. How can I uninstall the windows 7 in that drive as I already installed windows 7 to the correct C hard drive.

I just got it back from the warranty repair center, where they replaced the hard drive and graphics fan & heatsink, and reloaded the factory windows version. Before I sent it out for repair, I used Windows Backup to create a backup of all my files on a Toshiba casio 500GB external USB drive (I had over 300 GB of files, so it was easier to use Windows Backup than drag and drop all the files, at least at the time). Now that I have the laptop back, I'm having trouble restoring my files. When I go to Control Panel-> Backup & Restore, a message appears in the restore section, saying "Windows could not find a backup for this computer." I've tried reconnecting the drive as well as restarting my computer, but to no avail. I can see and explore the files in My Computer, so I know the hard drive is properly connected.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have 3 ssd's. 60gb 120gb and 256. Currently the60 is not installed and may still have data on it from a previous pc build. Windows is installed on the 120 right now with the 256 being a second drive for my steam games. I want to erase all data on all of the drives and install windows onto the 60gb (new c drive) and make the 120 and 256 an e and f drive. Here are some of my questions.Should i hookup the 60gb drive so my pc recognizes it and then go about reformatting and erasing all data from the 3 drives? Except the os.Then after erasing all data do i delete the partition from the 120gb drive and reinstall to the 60gb drive?Does installing windows to a drive automatically default it to the c drive?

So, I went to device manager and uninstalled it, and thought I had solved the problem.
However, every time my computer either boots or even wakes up from sleep mode, windows automatically reinstalls the drivers and re-enables the virtual cd-rom drive.
Does anyone know where to find the registry files I have to delete to tell my windows installation that I don't want that drive anymore?
I have two HDD's installed on my PC. The 1st one is 500GB and has three partitions, in one of which Windows 7 is installed. The 2nd one is 160GB and has only one partition. I plan to use this one as a backup drive.
When I go to setup the Windows Backup wizard, in the list of partitions where I can choose to create the backup, it does not show me the 2nd drive partion. It only shows two partitions from the 1st drive.
How do I make the wizard display the 2nd drive as well?

Just started using Win 7 recently and decided to use its backup for system files in case my C drive fails. My second external is new and it is 500gig. After the backup it only has 154gig remaining. Is there any way to stop it from backing up the other 2 drives? This is probably very simple, but i did google it and didn't find anything.

There are some apps on the old drive (Photoshop 6.0) which still run & I'd like to use them. I currently have 2 drives. the c:/ is where windows resides (60gb ssd drive). The second one is an older (3 years old) from my old computer where my programs reside. It is this latter one D:/ (500gb seagate barracuda) where windows is telling me to backup.
I just installed another WD 500GB black (also about 3 years old) so I could backup the D: drive. The computer is running fine. Is windows accurate in being able to find hard disk problems before they become an issue? I'm afraid that if I take out the drive and send it back to seagate they might not find anything wrong with it. Is there a way to test and fix it with software?
I want to either move or restart Windows Backup to a new drive. So I'd like to wipe the current Backup off the drive it is currently on. I really don't care that much about saving older recovery points. Is there a way to just switch where the recovery is saved and once a new restore point has been created on the new drive I could just delete the old files on the other drive?

But I have a C drive with a lot of empty space, and an external hard drive that I need to back up. So... is there any way to get around the default behavior so I can back up FROM the external drive TO the C drive?

However when I tried to setup MS Backup for the first time on PC 2, it does not list the external HD called Drive "L". When I open COMPUTER on PC 2, the external drive is shown. Drive "L" is also set for ALL USERS, and shared label is indicated on PC 1. So the million dollar question is, why doesn't it show on the list of available drives to select for backup on PC 2? Also, there isn't any way in the backup setup screen to browse or search for any drives.

1) Take my daughter's laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate on it and partition the only hard disk to have a C: drive (125 Gigs) and E: drive (75 gigs).
2) Setup Windows 7 backup to backup data and disk image of the C: drive TO the E: drive.
Works OK on backup if the hard drive fails, you loose everything C: and E: but if you want a quick fix for virus attacks on the C: drive, or a quick way to restore files to the C: drive.the 64 dollar question... I haven't tested this part yet but can you RESTORE the E: drive image of the C: drive using the SYSTEM REPAIR DISK ?? Would the restoration reformat the entire hard drive, and in effect crash the restore before it starts? Or would it just reformat the C: drive partition??

View 1 Replies View RelatedI used to run 2 WD Caviar Black 1TB each, I decided to get a 128gb Intel SSD, put the other 2 WD drives over to SATA port 2 and 3 with SSD on port 1. I did not format the WD drives since they both have data on it, port 2 WD still has Windows 7 installation on it.
When I started up after installing SSD, I went to BIOS to ensure everything is in working order, I noticed only 2 drives are detected, the SSD and WD on port 3. Tried several things like check connection, power connection, switched SATA cables, switched ports. Still no difference.
I went ahead and installed Windows 7 on SSD, disk manager does not detect WD on port 2.
Is it because that WD on port 2 still has windows installation files? How can I fix this? I have critical data on there that I need to access to.
I would like to come up with a way to provide a full backup computer to my customers (offline, process control application). Currently doing this with WinXP and a hot-swap RAID-1 enclosure. If anything in computer1 dies, can quickly move the cables and the drive over to computer2, boot up and keep running. Now moving to Windows 7, more strict activation issues. Getting a separate windows license for each computer is not a problem, but how to either change the license key easily after the swap, or avoid activation altogether? Typical system is offline, possibly abroad and would like to make the failover as easy as possibly for customers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got all my music in an external drive. When i configured bakups i selected that same external drive as destination to back up to.
Now, i added the music from that drive to windows media player and now, when the computer backs up, i've got this error telling me some files were omitted (namely all the music) because they're on the same drive as the backup's destination.
I'm going to use WMP because it's already there (regardless of there being a million better choices of media players/managers) so don't bother suggesting otherwise.
My question is: is there any special folder i should avoid backing up so this error doesn't happen? (like the one that contains WMP database)
